  1. I'm not sure about this. I do believe that at least half the LEGO. Hobby is sorting, but the other half (or whatever is left) is all about building things with these little plastic bricks. I don't really see myself building things with colored beads or marbles. I may complain (a little) about sorting but sometimes sorting is relaxing and I do find parts I forgot about and I do like to build and I would not trade my bricks for marbles, beads or whatever. Andy D
  2. Only half? ;) Andy D
  3. Where can I find the building instructions for the 2014 Star Wars Advent Calendar? There are a couple of things I would like to build, I'm sure I have the parts in my inventory, and do not want to spend $35 for a couple of small items. Edit: Never mind. I found the BL inventory of items... Building will be simple, Thanks, Andy D
  4. This is very nice. Clever the way you made it a corner building. Looking forward to actual photos. Andy D
  5. Still working on my 2015 plan. I'm sure it will involve the new modular. I need to come up with something more general and meaningful to plan (and ignore). Andy D
  6. Nope. Not impossible, but not many people have that kind of room. My modulars are on a shelf that is about 2 inches wider than the buildings. I don't know if I would like a train station unless it could fit in my modular area. Andy D
  7. I don't really want to eBay, don't want to sell one at a time. Don't care if it pays for the set. I look at it as selling them is a savings for me and possibly a savings for someone else. I have seen eBay prices for the mini figs for $199... I don't need that, thinking about $100 or... Andy D
  8. I am considering the 10236 for parts. I do not want the mini figs. What are they worth? Anyone interested in purchasing? Let me know.... Andy D
  9. Same amount as a woodchuck?
  10. Yeah, I think you are right. The Cantina may be overpriced due to minifigs (I'm not much of a minifig person). Andy D
  11. Very nice, but not a compelling must have like the set 1... I will get one, because I am a completest. And it does contain a lamp post. Andy D
  12. I used to keep many boxes because I enjoyed the art. But it became too much, so off to recycling. Now I keep just the instructions as they have much of the art that was on the boxes. If I had. The space and wanted to keep lots of paper on my attic I would keep the boxes, but then if they are stored away... How can I enjoy them? For me it is about my enjoyment, not resale. Andy D
  13. The Landscape and background is very nice... Nice layering in the background. Andy D
  14. It's bigger on the inside. Great! I really like tour TARDIS interior. I may have to steal (err borrow) this. Andy D
  15. I have been doing a lot of thinking about this. I have come to a conclusion (while involved in my latest sort - build). My LEGO hobby is essentially a hobby of sorting parts. After sorting I determine what parts I have, I start to build, but during the building I find that I need to sort... Because I got too many parts out, so now I need to straighten up my build space so I can build more. So my LEGO hobby is first sort, then build, and I am OK with that. Andy D
  16. I just got some Duplo 2x4's so I thought I would update. Yes, the clutch power of Duplo to Duplo is weaker than standard bricks, but, think about the target audience, those little hands need to be able to separate bricks. The clutch power of Duplo to standard brick is pretty good! at least good enough as for me Duplo will be support for a stack. The batch I got were used but in very good condition, no teeth marks and no more scratches than one would get just handling and storing in containers. Also very clean. Attaching standard bricks to Duplo... 1x anything just doesn't work. Plates of any size have no clutch at all, just sit there, which "could be OK for some applications. 2x3 will not work. 2x2, 2x4, 2x6 and 2x8 work on a Duplo 2x4 and have reasonable clutch. I think the Duplo will give me good filler / structure elements. Thanks for all the replies and info. Andy D
  17. When a set is retired doesn't LEGO put a "Retired" flag on the item? Andy D
  18. I never thought I would see me in this thread! But I am having a dilemma... I have a bunch of VIP points just begging to be spent. I am looking for a set around $100. I like to get sets that have either interesting build techniques or interesting parts. I am looking at the Mos Eisley Cantina or the Bike Shop & Cafe... Or something else in the $100 range with interesting parts or interesting techniques. This set will be built, the disassembled and put into parts bins... Not a display piece. Any ideas? Andy D
  19. PS is back out of stock in the USA. I ordered one Oct 11, they came back in stock Oct 13, they shipped mine today, now out of stock after less than 24 hours. More to be available in 30 days. This thing is still selling quick! Andy D
  20. Thanks... Can you point me to a photo or drawing that illustrates the "honey comb" method you discussed? Thanks, Andy D
  21. Yeah, I am building all the cool stuff, just with parts from Bricklink rather than from unopened sets. Andy D
  22. I ordered a Pet Shop the other day. It says "Back ordered until Oct 20" I also received communication from s@h letting me know that it is backordered and that my order is in the queue. I also have never had a problem with backordered sets from s@h. Hope they come through this time as well... Andy D
  23. I have a number of sets that I bought just for parts. They include second copies of modulars, some LOTR, Star Wars and others. Somehow I am having difficulties just ripping the box open and sorting the parts into my inventory. I have noticed that when I need some parts for something I am building, I even go to Bricklink and buy parts that I have in those sets. Sometimes I tell myself that I will build the set first to learn what can be learned about technique... But who has time to build all those sets? How do you overcome the “I don’t want to rip open the new box” syndrome and get your parts sorted into your inventory? Andy D
  24. @Legogal... The "Dirty Club" hmmmm... sounds... well... You know.... I'm glad you clarified... Well, our ranks are growing... Not by leaps and bounds, but one or two showing up occasionally... I know there are more of you out there. Where are you? Oharra, thanks for standing up to be counted. It just proves that us "Oldie's" can still stand up ;) Now I hope someone can give Oharra an "Oldie's" badge? Thanks, Andy D
  25. The build is for Halloween 2015. I am having trouble this year with mixed media (LEGO plus support structure of wood). Making things match up in mixed media is difficult and not as flexible as all LEGO. My resolutions.... Yeah right.. Didn't spend less, (in fact I spent more that year) didn't build more. But with my new space it is much easier to keep things neat and I do spend a lot of time sorting. Overall... LEGO is the best hobby I have ever had! I'll post about he condition of the used Duplo (2x4) I ordered. I am also looking for a quantity of Duplo 2x2 as well and maybe some Duplo plates 2x2 and 2x4. I think between all those Duplo sizes and standard size bricks and plates I should have an easier time getting dimensions to suit me. I hope to finish part of my 2014 Halloween build this week, then you can see my difficulty working with mixed media. Andy D
