1. Swing open is OK, be no back is a non-starter. Andy D
2. Gotta have a rear wall! Without a rear wall it's a "doll house". Just MHO YMMV Andy D
3. This is excellent! The set looks like a fun and "LEGO educational" build, I bought the set last month, but I can't get to it before the first of the year, looking forward to it more now than before. Your video is excellent. How was it done? My guess is individual photos then a stop action animation program either a morphing feature. Am I close? Anyway it is great! My wife (not a LEGO builder) even enjoyed the video with all the special effects. Andy D
4. Thanks for noticing. The main reason for all the different mini figs is to show that my mini fig village is made up of all kinds of people err... Mini figs. And steak vs steak commonly misunderstood. One used for dispatching vampires, the other a tasty meal. Andy D
5. No undead discrimination. The count just likes wrought iron gates and since he is so welcoming he opens all his gates on party nights. But the ghosts and skeletons like to hang out with their own and they travel in groups. He just forgot their invite again! But then again, the villagers don't really like parties with the dead and undead... But the do love storming castles ;) Thanks for your comments. Andy D
6. OTW: Your posts really need to come with a caution label. I almost spewed coffee all over my iPad when I read this one. I really like the idea of a Trampoline Store. And put me in the "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" camp for the DA. Andy D
7. How many more? Now we have Bike Shop and Bakery Shop. Are you guys just staying awake figuring out new store names? Or what... I can't wait to see what's next. Maybe a Brothel Saloon? Andy D
8. A Bus Station would be OK, but I think it shocks also include a Book Store and a Beauty Salon and a Barber Shop. Just think, it would be a BS, BS, BS, BS! The best! Andy D
9. Yeah, lots of mini figs with hangovers from the brew they were drinking. BTW: the castle was made from much of four (4) 9468 Vampire Castle sets. Thanks for the comment about the rock work, means a lot from someone with your experience. I just to need to find a way to make it look more realistic. What I was going for was a monochrome look and a look that water had been running down for many, many years and the cliff eroded at different levels because of different density of the rock material. I need to find more examples of rock work so I can adapt it to achieve my desired results. Thanks again, Andy D
10. I am wondering where the "confirmed rumor" came from about the Book Store, Beauty Salon or Barber Shop? Personally, since modulars are three stories I really hope that they decide to do a Book Store (1st floor), Beauty Salon (2nd floor) and a Barber Shop on the top floor. After all, when going to a Beauty Salon or Barber Shop, what do you need? Reading material to pass the time waiting. Wow! I hope whoever found this info (OTW) is right, because I'm looking forward to that modular. Who knows maybe Jamie will read this thread an decide this is a great idea! Hurry up and get that DA out and on to the next one. Andy D
11. The TH will be retired when it is retired. But, the BS will never be retired! (Unless it is a Book Store). Andy D
12. Yep, lots of talk about the BS (lots of BS). The main thing is to not step in it. Much like many of the predictions and "inside information" in this thread. Believe it when TLG announces it! Sorry of the side-track. Now let's get back to the main issue in this topic... The spreading of rumors about the modular series. Andy D
13. OTW: Great! Just one question, I have heard of the MS, PS, GE, FB CC, TH, PC and PR. But what is the BS? Is that a new set? Andy D
14. The Count and Countess had their annual Halloween party. This year to celebrate their newly remodeled and greatly expanded castle they decided to have an even bigger party. Last years party was trouble... The villagers got extremely upset and stormed the castle. This year they moved the castle further away from the village and put it on a hill top in hopes that the noise of their party would not irritate the villagers. They invited many, many more of their friends than last year. But they did not realize the by butting the castle on a hill top that the sounds of their loud and boisterous party would carry into the village and once again irritate the villagers. Here we see the party at the castle and the villagers storming the castle. https://www.flickr.c...5/15509229329/] https://www.flickr.c...29329/]Untitled by https://www.flickr.c...MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr Some of the villagers sing as the rest of the villagers mass for the storming. https://www.flickr.c...5/15075167604/] https://www.flickr.c...67604/]Untitled by https://www.flickr.c...MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr A mini fig’s eye view of the masses storming the castle. https://www.flickr.c...5/15509242919/] https://www.flickr.c...42919/]Untitled by https://www.flickr.c...MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr But when they get to the steps they just crowd together making it difficult to get to the castle. https://www.flickr.c...5/15509733158/] https://www.flickr.c...33158/]Untitled by https://www.flickr.c...MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr A view of the happening party https://www.flickr.c...5/15509916377/] https://www.flickr.c...16377/]Untitled by https://www.flickr.c...MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr This is my first attempt at rock work, the rocks are OK, but I really like how the tree came out. The tree was inspired by Flea and his Cliff Fortress http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=88347 https://www.flickr.c...5/15509914667/] https://www.flickr.c...14667/]Untitled by https://www.flickr.c...MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr More photos on my Flickr Album. https://www.flickr.c...57646769287304/ Also available on the Album page for Halloween 2014 at My Plastic Bricks at http://www.myplasticbricks.com/albums/halloween2014/index.html I learned a lot doing this project, first off, for me a project this size really should be modular so I can move it around easier. Second I need more practice on rock work and other build techniques. Finally I need to get started earlier as it is not just get in there in build... It is build, don’t like it tear it down, rebuild, repeat. I hope you enjoy it, C&C welcome. Andy D
15. OTW: if you're going to start a pool for retirement dates... Pick a date and stick with it! Or is it like an office baseball pool where you can pick several squares? I don't understand January 11 but March 15 makes sense, and for the USA how about April 1 or April 15? Those are my dates. Put me in the retirement pool. Oh, wait I already am in the retirement pool, can't buy me anymore ;);) I bought a second FB several years ago because I thought it was ready to go... Boy was I ever wrong. I waited until this October to get my second PS, thought I was going to miss it, but got it. Got a second (third?) GE last year or year before, got TH two at a time during release year, same for PC and PR. From now on I will buy my sets during the first year of release, no more looking for non-existent bargains, no more chances! Andy D
16. My wife hopes I never get an invite! In a way, so do I. Not saying I would not go, but I would worry why I got the invite as I am trying to moderate my LEGO and other spending. Not having much success, but... Andy D
17. Off the wall really says it all ^^^ see quote. If you want a set buy it! If you wait for a bargain you may be scrambling at the EOL of a set. If you wait until after EOL and you still must have a set be prepared to pay a premium. It is all your choice. Andy D
18. Been thinking... If good art is good art, does it really Matter what the bumping post says? However bumping a purely discussion thread... Well, I'm not sure that's really useful. Outside of bumping new topics, I can see a thread and just ignore it and keep looking down for the new threads. Art yes! Old discussion, well, maybe not. Andy D
19. If you really want it, buy it when available. If you wait for a promotion you may run the risk of not getting it. PS seems to be in and out of stock frequently. A couple of weeks ago it was on back order, I ordered and it shipped but I noticed that when it was listed as in stock it lasted about a day. One day this in stock, out of stock (back ordered) will go to sold out. Right now speculators are buying and others are trying to get sets before sold out, lots of activity. If I really wanted an older set I would buy when it is available and not wait for promotions. I missed another HH because of waiting for the "right time" now it's gone. Lesson learned buy when available. Just MHO, YMMV Andy D
20. Also you might check out Basebrick Basebrick.com I have been using it and I like the features available. Andy D
21. The problem is... Which topics is this applied to? Some topics that come back from even years ago are enjoyable. I will sometimes see a resurrected topic and think... Wow, I forgot all about this, I am glad to see it again. Some new topics you wish would just go away. I have no idea how to balance this, but I don't feel we need more moderation in this area, I prefer self moderation for things like this. Just MHO YMMV Andy D
22. I think you are correct and I don't need another FB. Looking set, one is enough. However I also really like the idea of a natural history museum, there is so much that could be done there, maybe the 2016 modular. Looking forward to another 2 building modular and the one described in this thread with an alley sounds interesting, it would be nice if it had a second floor walkway between the buildings. Lastly, I also agree that sets in the low 2000 piece category are most interesting to me for modulars. Also looking forward to first photos of the 2015 modular so I can start drooling over it. Where are all the leakers? Andy D
23. Sorting is easy... It just takes time... I agree that storage is more difficult. I have a pretty good storage system, yet it is continually evolving. Just putting pieces away is one thing, remembering what I have and where it is another problem all together. My storage has evolved to using Sterelite 15 quart bins with either freezer baggies (1 qt. and 1 gal) and or Glad entree storage containers. I also use Plano boxes for mini figs and small decorator pieces. I am trying to integrate some Akron Mills cabinets (which I already have from a previous attempt) into my storage system. For labeling I plan to use the labels from templates so generously provided by EB member henrysunset either as direct labels or as inventory type sheets in my Sterelite boxes. At this time I am not sure my storage solution will ever be complete. Andy D
24. Well I think I just went crazy here. I bought the Cantina on eBay W/O mini figs, and I discovered I needed a bunch of brown arches and tree stuff... So I used my points and some $$'s and ordered the Ewok Village. When I get it, I'll just separate the mini figs sell them, and have left what I needed (this time). Andy D
25. I have been thinking about this topic. It seems the OP just modified some parts he had to become another existing part he did not have. I don't think he created a new part type, just substituted one part for another instead of ordering. I think this might be a reason I might consider modding a part, just to create another existing part, not create a new part type. But if someone wanted to create a new part type... Well that's up to them. Just MHO. YMMV, Andy D
