  1. Hey, thank's to my question (rather on the dumb side) in another AT-AT thread I was pointed here. This is I think the best-looking-big-size-detailed-interior AT-AT ever! I love how it looks and I'm looking forward to see finished model. Good luck La Chupacabra!
  2. ^Thank's, I gotta check 'em all :D. Just let's not loose the chain of this topic (that's why I suggested PM) ;)
  3. Well done! I was expecting to see these mods like mushrooms after rain as soon as Poe's X-wing went available but to my big surprise, nothing till your post. Thank you for that though - as one may expect this looks waaay better than the original. I love this canopy and I'm surely getting several of them for further x-wing builds. Regarding those shooters, I don't think it's controversial at all. These pieces represent ion canons (or proton torpedos or whatever these shings are :D ) really well, although I'm not sure about adding the actual stud in them - looks more like a light now.
  4. ^ You'r right of course :) I hope we both can check in 30 years who's expectations were closer to reality :D Meanwhile I start to regret not joining that cool contest :D Yet my technic bricks stack is very limited so I probably couldn't even if I wanted. I hope there will be more event's like this one and next time I'll make sure to be prepared.
  5. ^Haha I like how you have picture for any kind of situation :) I don't want to drift this thread away from Cjd223's build to much, yet could you possibly PM me with some Interior equipped AT-AT's you know? From what I found it's either small (official set size) or outer shell only (like this one). Thanks!
  6. I know it's not direct argument (inventions are faster nowdays etc etc...) but look on ~1985 trucks. Many differences but in general the concept is quite the same - cabin on top of wheels, trailer at the back. Of course that you can unleash your imagination and bring up some really futuristic concept but the question is what is more likely to be truth :) The limiting factor for some super inventive ideas are the roads - as long as we have roads like today (which are also very similar to 1985 ones), cou can't change the concept of chasis rolling on wheels with tires (or can you?) unless you make your truck levitate. Speaking of which, I really like this idea of 'auxilary' MAGLEV function, which would presuambly only work on hi-tech roads that are equipped with magnetic rails. Still you need the truck to be versatile and to get in the locations without sucg feature rodas. Regarding this competition, I doubt that my approach is the key to astound the judges - they probably will look for more future-like concepts. But if I were among the panel, I'd vote for designs that are most likely to become reality, which this one in my oppinion really is. EDIT: Some basic laws of machine efficiency won't be changed. The contradiction of what I said would be Perpetual Motion machine. (Just imagine that - you place a tourbine on small cart, push the cart and the tourbine produces enough energy to keep it moving or even accelerating :) ) Of course that it's not what jono.rocky wanted to achieve in this case but it proves that those tourbines can't be efficient, no matter what)
  7. Very nice! With deadline comming, this comp is getting it's best submitions :D I absolutely love the front of your truck. That curved grill is ingeniously executed. Also most of the play features are great - I especially like cabin light, maglev lights and that cute little drone, which is actually quite cool idea for a real application. There is one thing on the design which I think is not quite right - the height of the trailer - shouldn't it b leveled with the cabin not to restrict the airflow? Regarding your fictional functions, the hydrogen powered engine doesn't really match those big exhausts behind the cab :) Also the use of wind tourbines is rathe nonsense - the power you gain from them is always less (or ideally equal) to the aerodynamic looses. Not to mention that you'd need these to be quite huge in order to get some considerable energy from them. Otherwise it's simply great model, perhaps my favorite in the competition so far! I'm sure that if not winner, this will be at least amoght the runner ups. Good luck!
  8. Good job and good luck with further progress! A bit off topic note - Is there anyone who has built this model with some decent interior? I'm alsways a bit disappointed seing these hollow rooms inside :)
  9. Second and third section look really good! I don't super like that dark bluish gray liftarm bracing on the first section but I guess it has to be there - maybe using just half thickness liftarms? And of course yellow would help a lot to improve the look. Swing out jib is great idea - I didn't see many lego cranes with such feature, if any at all! I hope your boom can hold it - have you tried full extension with jib and some refference load? I'd have one note regarding that jib construction - I'm pretty sure there's a better way to get this shape without that ugly bending ot those liftarms, also your design seems to be a bit on the heavier side - you really need this to be as light as possible. Therefore I think both the structure and mouting mechanism of your jib could use a redesign.
  10. Yellowing is rather ugly, especially if you have some snow white pieces to compare the older with :/
  11. As far as my experience from bricklink goes, I usually obtain great number of parts for decent price but the remaining 'few' (sometimes less than 10%) can almost double the cost. I.e. right now I'm getting parts for my midi scale Venator - I got around 900 parts in my first order for ~$100, yet the remaining 200 elements seems to make up for almost another $100 with all the shipping cost. The worst case come when you need just several parts from certain store but have to fulfill the min buy :/
  12. Fantastic! That front pic is just fabulous and your AT-TE is one of the best renditions I have ever seen, yet keeping the scale quite reasonable. Well done!
  13. Hey, im not certainly sure but I think it's part of the anti-pendulum system on modern cranes. This is fairly complex thing including weight sensors, cable length sensor, boom elevation sensor and boom extension sensor, which is right in this spool. All the data goes to central processing unit which then controlls the superstructure rotation in order to reduce load swinging. Btw I found some better úics of your crane in case you havent seen them already: http://www.vertikal....ws/story/16781/ http://www.vertikal....ews/story/9259/ EDIT: missed D3K's reply first. It probably can be (and most certainly used to be) as simple as just extension meter without all the other stuff but I'm quite sure newer cranes implement that feature.
  14. Much better even now. I'm guessing that you will add 3x3 wedge plate? Therefore you might need to add one more yellow 'stripe' on the curve and side isn't that right?
  15. I really like how it's built structuralwise, which is not very common thing for me to praise. Well done on implementing all these opening parts while keeping the sturdy frame. The only thing that I don't like (visually) is the engine (engines). I'm not familiar with rebells so maybe this is how they look like in the series but for me it looks more like rear lights or something.
  16. Very nice diorama. I really like it, yet I'd have suggestion or two: The vegetation behind the 'beach' looks a bit neglected. I'd suggest you to move the grass a bit towards the water and build several propper big trees behind it. I believe that would be much more visually attractive and look less plain. I'd also work a bit more on that rock in the back corner. It's definitely great idea to have it there but now it looks a bit crude. You could also include some action to it, perhaps hidden clone sniper or something like that :) Last suggestion heavily depends on your resources but since your diorama is quite big, I'd include few more vehicles - i.e. the front of the Juggernaut comming towards the attacking tank droid, maybe AT-RT and a gunship or several more crab droids on the enemy side.
  17. Hey that's very nice! And it performs really well, I like both speed and narrow turning radius. I very much prefer this to all these huge models powered by dozens of motors that can barely drive in the end :) Excellent model!
  18. Well the very first section (outer skin) is yellow so we are talking only the 5x11 panels and some liftarms - depen's on your situation but I think it would be worthy investment to get some of these in black. Of course it's just visual side, yet it makes quite big difference in the final impression the model gives. EDIT: Any yeah, the flipping thing was rather thought than recommendation - not the greatest option for sure.
  19. Haha :) Well I think that eventhough there is some tension in the discussion above, there is nothing really alarming. Posting on public forum, you have to expect all kind of reactions and as long as there is no real fight or serious offense, it stays valid, yet sometimes not very nice. Anyway, congratz on your Bday gift - cool set. The price pushes me away from purchase, otherwise I'd probably grab one too. Nobody can force you to justify your techniques and you can do literarly anything with your lego property (unless it's criminal somehow haha). I have seen guys throwing $400 models out of the window or even burning lego with torch (!!!) - painting is by by no means near these crazy things, many lego builders use it and even I (opponent in general) respect that in some cases it affects the final model in apositive way. Yet there will always be a lively discussion about how propper is it and therefore you shouldn't be surprised by getting some negative feedback time to time.
  20. @R5: You'r right and please don't get my note wrong - I didn't mean to reprobate your use of these parts at all. Yet the lego community diverse and there is quite big part of 'purist' who don't like using non lego parts in lego MOCs as well as part modification, painting etc. And I have to admitt that I slightly incline to this group :) On the other hand I understand that for you -model maker- all these techniques are quite natural. Though you should be prepared for not only positive reaction on your mocs that include non-official parts. And as Vodnik said, brand logo right next to 'fake' parts may not be accepted well :) Anyway, I hope this won't demotivate you from posting on this forum and sharing your creations - maybe you find yourself (by the time) that using original lego is somehow better and more pleasing (quality, feel...)
  21. Hmm, that problem with 5x11 panels doesn't seem to be ebvious to solve. You could insert friction pins from inside but that won't get rid of all the movement. The first option that came onto my mind was flipping these panels so they are facing inside. But that would damage the look and maybe increase the friction on the 2nd section. By the way, do you build in realistic colors in your LDDs? Cause the cace of retracting sections is mostly black or grey. At least I have never seen yellow myself :)
  22. ^Vodnik is right. Lego has similar curved fence but not with cross bracing (Part: 4x4x2 Quarter Round Spindle Fence). I also agree on the rest of the building - there is no LEGO stample on the studs on closer look and the colors are a bit off on all the elemets. R5-j2 - Any chance you didn't know these parts aren't genuine LEGO? I mean, it seems obvious to long term fans but many people might not be recognizing these, at least at the beginning.
  23. This is not valid in general. There is certain scale in which you easily implement function and it's still small enough not to run into big construction problems (most technic models try to match such scale). Anything smaller than that is challenge because the lack of room, anything bigger is also a challenge because of dealing with weight, forces, structural strength etc. Thus I wouldn't say Milan's scale is any less challenging.
  24. Nice builds but still it's very Star Wars -ish, no matter how many statements you leave against :D I like the smaller one better though - more inventive design. That bigger seems just like Malevolence 2015 facelift ;)
  25. ^ 8x8 round tile is missing the axle hole isn't it? The connection would only be with 4 studs which seems quite insufficient. Just my thought thoiugh, I have never built neither of these versions :) edit: Nevermind, I was thinking of different element. In given context what I said is absolute nonsense :)
