  1. Wow. Any Idea why is that? Generally... I really don't get lego pricing policy they are taking for last years.
  2. I think that also part/color availability might have occured earlier. I'm just guessing but I can imagine that back there in 2000s there weren't as many sets produced and sold, and the perhaps color palette for some parts was limited. And maybe it was not always possible to manufacture bricks in new color just because of one set. Anyway, I think that most of the interior color mixes were intentional. As said above, for kids it's sometimes hard to read building instructions when one color is abused. Well and not only for kids. Most of the internal structures are designed using distinguishable colors even in UCS models. We are so familiar with that technique that we barely notice it's impact but without this it would be struggle to build big models. What happened since 2005 is that lego models got more detailed and with new parts and possibilities Lego designers are taking the look as priority, yet a bit over the ease of build. They still use colorful bricks wherever it won't disturb the design.
  3. When I tried to figure why lego designer didn't use some fancy technique like you did, I haven't managed to come up with any reasons but one: The structural integrity. In 'flying mode' when both wings are hanging in the air, I think that the torque on the sphere is quite high. I'm not sure if any somution without rigid central link is rigid enough to take such a load without to much stress on some parts. Besides that, it's really cool and visually much better than the original. I agree with Fuppy regarding the top dish - using the one with 6 stud diameter might look better.
  4. Hello, That's great that you like the scale as it is. It's not tiny but no giant though. Maybe I'll create another comparison next to ISD or Venator in ISD scale, which is twice as big as my midi scale. That could make another interesting pic :) Honestly, I'm not quite sure about re-submitting at the moment. No shame to tell that it does not look very promissing for any of those two, yet even if it eventually got the support, recent Lego review results are showing that projects based on product line theme are not gladly accepted. If this trend does not change till deadline comes on my projects, I probably won't re-submit them... let's see. Merging into one set might possibely make the project more attractive but even less perspective for success in review at the same time.
  5. ^Broken link up there.
  6. Hello and welcome to Eurobricks! (I hope I'm allowed to say that... still being quite a newbie myself haha) Honestly I like all of your designs. Each one is brilliant and very original (at least I haven't seen many of thouse made out of lego yet). I especially like the Punishing One with it's curved wing and interesting odd shape. Very good job and you instantly fall into the pool of my favorite builders :)
  7. Hey Racker, well then I'm happy that I have shared that pic :) Those dimensions were already in origonal model description but that was easy to miss. As you say, it is actually quite big model, still easy to handle (hopefully even one hand). And that was the aim of the scale :) I'm hoping to finis the real build within few months so I can bring some live pics.
  8. ^^ Thank you guys! By the way, for anyone who wonder about the actual size, I made a pic comparing my Venator with #8039 set. Have you expected it to be bigger or smaller? :D Well I know that most of you figured the exact scale anyway. I have got a lot of feedback telling that the part count on Venator is to high regarding the size. I agree that over 1500 may seem like a lot and I tried to do some explanation of why is that in last update - if you are interested, check it out here: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/74229/updates
  9. What a huge block of earth :D Very funny and brilliantly executed. Yet the main observation is the size... wow :)
  10. ^Maybe you guys should quote without the image... It's a lot of wasted scroll to have the same pic three times on single page.
  11. I'd say that the problem is TIE itself. The design is so simple, there are no super articulated parts to be recreated in the model. It may be the second simpliest shape right after Death Star :D Two hexagons with some texture on it and sphere in the middle... The more crucial it is to do these things perfectly. If such a model came about 3 years ago, I think it would get much better response. Yet in past few years, the level of design has moved a lot forward. As you mention in your post, this really look like some retro old school model. But In comparison to other contemporary UCS's, I think that using brick slopes to make sphere is really a bit behind. To be more specific, What I really dislike is the fact that the cockpit sphere is not distinguished from side wing holders. Looking and TIE pictures, these holders have way different shape that could certainly have been done better with lego bricks. True, but usually bigger size means more details and better design. And I'm not really sure whether this applies here. Of course it's way further than playsets but I think that the same level of detail could have been reached in 2/3 scale and maybe the result would look even better. I saw worse looking sets and MOC's too. Yet not sure if that's the best excuse. On the other hand, I'm glad you like it. If I were the designer, I'd be happy if such a good builder liked my model. Also I don't say it's all bad. Just it's probably not my cup of tea, maybe I even vainly think that I could build it better and I'm hard to find any positives to outweigh the negatives (8 tiny stickers just on the front, lack of cool design elements, trivial looking construction, low diversity in used bricks...) I like Slave I way more than this. However, it also has some drawbacks, I feel there is design mastery beyond that set. Original tilted construction, unusual part usage... overal it's something uncommon. Unlike this TIE. Kris
  12. This made me laugh for like 3 minutes :D :D
  13. Exceptional. Eventhough I knew your digital renderings, I'm absolutely blown away and speechless. Perhaps the only think I don't like for 100% are those trans lime dishes on thrusters. Otherwise I can nothing but adore this :O
  14. That's it! You completely summarized my thoughts.
  15. Thank you Spark! I'm glad you liike this scale, however I have to point out that as long as both of my ships are in perfect scale to each other, they are not in scale with previously releaser MIDI-Scale ISD (maybe you thought they would). That ISD is actually much smaller.. You are not the first to suggest including some minifigs, yet you are the first one to formulate it so clearly :) I Have the same feeling - not being desperate for figures I don't really like purposeless including in non-minifig scale sets. However, you are right that it might boost the set attractivity for many lego fans. Grievous sounds perfect for Invisible Hand, yet I'm not sure why Ashoka fits to Venator? Except of being female, which you are again right about. Perhaps she played some role in Clone Wars series which I haven't watched? Kris
  16. Thank you Azrielsc! Even one vote counts towards :) But if you wanted to help more, you can try to send a ling within your friends who might be interested in LEGO. Yet I understand if you don's since it's sort of unwanted propaganda :D Thanks for you comment and support anyway! Kris
  17. Final Update to The Invisible Hand! Hello everyone, Recently I have finished my latest (and probably the last) update to my Invisible Hand project. The update is including stand (which required some structure changes on the ship) and few exterior improvements. For more pictures and details about the improvemets please visit the UPDATE LOG on LEGO® Ideas. Kristof
  18. That's mean :D Now I have to sit and spam F5 to see more pics asap! Really looking forward to see more, especially the top of the hull seems very exciting!
  19. ^If only you subscribed to the project and watched it's whole progress, you would have known that it was resized to around 6K bricks after official lego comment that was asking for that almost directly. For sure, 6K bricks is still a lot, yet it's no longer 'waa... ...aayy..y big'. Your argument is still relevant, just please deal with correct numbers.
  20. ^That one is hard to beat :D
  21. Wow that's quite a lot of work. Cool video :)
  22. I don't trully catch what you meant to say :/ The set I'm linking is one set, including M-Motor, battery box, light cable, pole switch and some additional gears and joints. This set is usually reffered to in instructions for many lego models as the set you need to power up your model. Of course you can buy the elements one by one according to the supply. yet Chewybricks was asking for the set so I pointed him on this one. Haha. If only the house wasn't kinda necessary for living ;)
  23. This is my favorite version of Venator in UCS scale. I really admire original design by Thire5 (whos actually my fellow countryman which makes me proud :D) but you get a huge credit for allowing others to build it. I wish I can afford to build something this big one day. So far I have to focus on much lower scale while still struggling getting all the bricks :)
  24. I really like these rod spools you used as the cannon barrels. Overall, this mod is really good.
  25. I believe that THIS SET might be the one. Both for motorizing and lighting up.
