Need opinions/advice on custom stand for Tydirium 75094
Kristof replied to Schwizzle's topic in LEGO Star Wars
One or another, both are super fragile (unless you kragle them together...) You really need a rigid boom with good connection to the pad. Use of long technic bricks or liftarms is almost inevitable, especially with big model like this one. -
^ Judging from the pictures, the range of movement either the same or even a bit more limited. The main obstacle in this case is the 'ankle' missing real joint, though it's the price for good stability. This model really isnt much about walking around or even various positioning. On the other hand, it stands very nicely, unlikely to fall down. Regarding two leg walkers, these two things - stability and leg articulation - are almost mutually exclusive I'm afraid. Anyway, I really like the way you pictorialy described your modifications Han. That's really cool and much more useful than just pics of completed model. And finally the look has been improved reasonably. Thumbs up!

I know already that I WILL beg you for some instructions for this. I never desired for a technic model as much as I do for this :D- 228 replies

[TC8] Ancient Greek Crane
Kristof replied to rhplus's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Most original and surprising entry so far :D I absolutely wouldn't think of doing such crane. Good luck with propper color scheme. -
Doesn't really matter whether it was on eurobricks or not. It's kind of unwritten rule (or at least good manners) within lego builders to give credit to original creator, whenever the similarity of your models reaches certain level. You can still add it to your post and it will be alright. By the way I'd guess that Grievous' speeder bike was that mysterious set? :D

This kind of reminds me generators from this creation by Oky. Are you sure you weren't inspired by that one? If you were, it would be nice to at least leave a note about that, especially since you talk about selling the instructions (which I don't think is worth the effort to be honest). Nevertheless, I quite like that display base, although I don't get why is is so thick (2 layers).

It's quite strange how much does the boom stick out to the front. Does any real crane have it like that? I ca imagine it might be quite impractical for driving.- 228 replies

Your progress is amazingly fast and somehow errorless, which is even cooler. It almost makes me think that your brain generates some building guide on the go, which you can follow :D Especially due to it's smaller size / bunch of features combo, this is on it's way to be my favorite entry!- 228 replies

[TC8] [WIP] Liebherr LTC 1045-3.1
Kristof replied to Milan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I don't recall any part of any other MOC that would conceive such mixed feelings in me :) I agree on 100% with all you say - I also dislike non-lego substitutes and I love unique brick built solutions on contrary. Still I somehow can't digest the look of these wheels on the crane and I don't know why is that. From some reason, it doesn't resemble real wheel with tire to me. I mean, yeah, it clearly is a wheel but since the rest of your build seems to be almost perfectly accurate, this resemblance is just not good enough. I know you hare happy with these and it's not my intention to discourage you from using these, yet if you ever wanted to try something else, I'd suggest using unimog tires on some smaller brick built disc with turntable piece as a pivot element. Hmm, I'd suggest you to reconsider this once again. 2 stage outtriger deploying is such key feature (at least I really like to look at) of a crane and especially since you have model big enough to fit full size LA's, it's sort of sin not to use them isn't it? :D -

Kristof replied to Milan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
^Yeah I wanted to ask the same question - the outtrigers. I guess that lifthing the final crane is not the plan is it? But even now it would be quite an accomplishment. -
Your question doesn't include single Star Wars context, but the title - I think it belongs into some general question topic. Otherwise I agree that it's absolutely worthless to print instructions downloaded from lego customer service site even on cheap office paper. Printing your own moc instructions may give some sense but still I don't think it's worth the cost. Regarding the paper itself, I don't know exact type (which varies anyway) but if you search for 'thin glossy paper', I bet you find something very similar.

This is what I came up with as for brick built solution Modified plate with octagonal frame and screwdrivers are flat silver. Everything should be quite affordable. EDIT: Hm, that version shared above is probably better :) This is really just flesh out

Is 12 axles too much?
Kristof replied to aminnich's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I guess you mean 12 axis on 62.4 wheels? I'll be speaking of myself. I personaly don't see much sense in building such model. It doesn't add much functionality, only boosts the size and that's not the fact which would impress me. On contrary, you end up with model that can barely be handeled, driven or transported. The reason for more axles on real mobile cranes is to enable for bigger superstructure, thus more height and lift capacity to the crane. With lego though, you already touch limits of plastic rigidity with smaller cranes than 12 axis monster. And seing the problems you deal with on your contest crane, going bigger could be suicide :) I could understand, however, that you build this as a challenge to yourself. Other than that, I can't think of one reason why that should be better than some smaller but well functional crane. Maybe scaling whole thing down so you end up with decent sized model. That could give some interesting results I think :) -

2016 release. I don't know the name of the set. Number seems to be 75140. -
Well, eventhough the relation to LEGO is quite made up in this case and your promotional aim is clear, I like the music :D

The Millennium Falcon colour thread (White, Grey or Blue!)
Kristof replied to appiah4's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Just a small note. These renderings can be quite missleading. Different light setting can produce very different results. Lighter colors usually seem darker with default settings compared with the actual appearence on daylight. Therefore an argument like "I rendered this and it's way to dark" isn't always valid.- 125 replies
