[MOC] Airport Crash Tender
miguev replied to Lucio Switch's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
If time and space are scarce, maybe you could record the disassembling, up close and showing details to the camera, and then play it backwards. That's what I did with my BMW R-12, I called it It was a very poor-man-with-no-time way of making instructions, recorded in less than an hour with a GoPro and with very very simple editing (I'm a noob at that), but it was still enough for jesuskyr to make it in mlcad, to my amazement. -
Love it! I gotta share this with my friend who's building a sumo robot, he wanted an RC robot as opponent to train the EV3 robot.

Wow! ... I couldn't help say it loud upon seeing the first pic. I'm kinda sorry for all other contestants -
Yes, please! Make it ultra-light, mainly flex axles, and then 3, 2, 1, BLAST OFF!!!

[MOC] Airport Crash Tender

I can't close my mouth, speechless... been waiting to see what you'd come up with next for some time, the wait has been long but more than well worth it! The only thing I wished for you didn't do, is setting a small cardboard / paper plane on fire and peeing on it extinguish the fire with your truck -
[MOC] Bitmap Display
miguev replied to AncientJames's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This. Is. Awesome!!!! -
Indeed, I noticed the small vertical size means either big or none caster angle... shifting an arm by a half stud gives already an angle of 26º 34' ... what's the maximum used in racing cars? Back on topic: I really wish Technic figures came back. They really add to playability in terms of role playing.

Wow, thank you so much for making this instructions, and even free! :) I know this is no easy build, but am I the only one finding step 141 a bit of a mystery? I can't tell how exactly are all those white parts (in the rear) connected.

Thank you guys for your recommendations, I'm already seeing some tricks I should try, from the Toyota FJ40 and the Landrover, still haven't finished reading 8258 instructions... any more recommendations? Please keep them coming! I wish I could look at some of piterx's cars more closely, at least I'll try looking at bodies more carefully. And paying more attention to the feasibility of each build beforehand, that's a really good point. For more details about the chassis, axles, etc. please see Sheepo's Modular All-terrain Platform.

Hi, I'm sharing yet another failed project, because we learn more from failures than from success, and I value your feedback, suggestions, criticism, irony and sarcasm I expect no more progress here, but to take this apart and maybe try again some day, hence the [RFC] (Request For Comments) instead of [WIP] tag. With Sheepo's great Modular All-terrain Platform, I thought I'd try my hand at mid-scale bodywork, for the first time ever, on a good working chassis. I chose a body with few curves, thinking it'd be easier: Nissan Patrol 260 Series. I have some fond memories of my uncle's Patrol and would love to show this off to my cousin... some day. I had some trouble with Sariel's scaler, not all numbers rendered well and some lines were truncated, so this screenshot may be more confusing than helpful, but it shows a key thing: an even body width of 16 studs. This width worked pretty well with the grille and headlights, and that was about all I could get more or less right. I completely messed up the front part of the sides (front mudguards, etc.) did rather poorly on the doors, never quite figured out the rear of the sides and didn't even try with the rear of the body. The limit of 2.5 studs with on the sides of the body felt quite restrictive to me. I think I should read a lot more before trying to write, that is build many good bodywork to learn from them, before again to build my own. On that line, what MOCs / sets / builders would you recommend me? Would it be "enough" to read the instructions carefully or should I really build them? Here are all the photos I have of this failed bodywork:

Amazing maneuver! Never seen a plan capable of flying like that. -
Technic 8828 video review
miguev replied to Richard Dower's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Nice review! Oh the times... not only I had it, 20+ years ago, but I got it back last year from my aunt's cellar, and was the one set I built (ok, most of it) on the spot, to the whole family's disappointment ("we just lost miguev...") My daughter was mildly interested </nostalgia> -
Nissan Hardbody 4x4 [WIP]
miguev replied to piterx's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
How about springs? I just started working on a similar vehicle (same wheels, same motors & batteries, similar size) but it's my first time... I'm not sure 1 hard shock will be soft enough for long-travel soft suspension (front), so I tried with 2 soft shocks but it seems too soft. I'm attaching them to the first whole in the 8070 arms. -

Won't that diff & tan gear click under stress? Center of structure seems open enough to flex and let them skip. Otherwise looks great, I'm always impressed with your super-compact designs -

[WIP] Ultimate 42009

No, sorry, I wouldn't put an SBrick on the chair, too many layers of software and all of them can let you down at some point... literally. Great to have you back, Grum -
Robo Fighters - MindStorms Future?
miguev replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Those biped fighters are fun to watch, and must be even more fun to design, build, program and operate... but with only EV3 and Technic in may hands, I'd be happy if I just manage to build a Sumo Bot to play with a nearby friend. -

miguev replied to grum64's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yes, we miss you, I've been asking myself about your progress here for the last week or so. I hope you're doing well! -
There should be a new version next week, I'll wait for it rather than take chances with the endless update loop... EDIT: Couldn't wait for it, thanks Sariel for the screencast video, it clarified quite a few things and encouraged me to update. First firmware updated failed and I though "oh no, stuck in the infinite update loop, me too" but then 2nd attempt succeeded. Failed meaning the old firmware was still running, which you can tell because the LED is not on all the time, i.e. you can tell you're running the new firmware because the LED is on all the time. I still found a few issues, posted them in the SBrick forum Android app topic.
