  1. They are clearly inappropriate (to be authentic LEGO ads) and fake.
  2. Breakdance Fight! Nice job!
  3. This isn't unusual for injection molding several pieces with one mold. This is essentially the same situation as the plastic model kits where you had to detach the pieces from a frame, except all the pieces (i.e. bricks) are already separated.
  4. My local Walgreens had twelve @ $4/each. I could tell three were duplicates so I bought the other nine. I'll definitely go back in a few days.
  5. For me, the title says it all. :)
  6. I got tickets for the Skaerbaeg show!
  7. I'd recommend you do not use it because it could be dangerous — and follow the ebay procedures to get a refund. You will probably have to pay return shipping. Get tracking with signature by the person it is addressed to. Delivery confirmation only is worthless.
  8. Standard cyanoacrylate superglue (KRAGLE) would probably work well. That's what he used. If you apply it towards the center of the underside nobody would see the welding.
  9. I would love Taliesin.
  10. Use the media bbcode tag and only use http (change https to http)
  11. The contrasting color choices are great. There just need to be more intent behind which you choose for which part. This could be based on function and/or location, like continuity across the entire object, proximity to other items, mechanical vs tactical, etc. Typically it might become more aesthetically pleasing as things fall into place, but making tweaks is ok, too. :)
  12. Yes it does. LDView and POV-Ray work great on a Mac.
  13. One thing I forgot to mention is to watch what happens to the depth in that video. The view outside isn't fake. The distance between everything in view is shrinking, including the table and everything on it.
  14. If anyone can load a specific file from a webserver, that file is world-readable aka publicly-viewable.
  15. Is that because of the snow that is included in this set?
  16. Please don't take a photo and then manually "adjust the vanishing points as needed." Everything you need is in the photograph. Perspective is reality. Just extend the edges and if they converge, you will have a vanishing point. If you try to manually adjust it, it will not look real because... it isn't real. Again, the photograph is real. Just extend the lines. Architecture visualization/rendering/photography is almost always in two point perspective. Depending on the project objectives, you don't need to limit it to two point perspective. A great exercise to teach the differences of one, two, and three point perspective is to have students build a model and then photograph it three different ways, letting them control what is happening with the vanishing points. Assuming you have a perfectly orthogonal model (like standard LEGO bricks snapped together on a plate): If the camera and the object are not aligned on any or only one axis, there are three vanishing points. Edges on each axis will converge at the same vanishing point for their respective axes. If the camera and the object are aligned on only two axes (e.g. both are perfectly horizontal and neither are tilted but the camera and/or object is rotated about the y-axis), there are two vanishing points. Edges on the y-axis will be parallel and vertical, and edges parallel to the other two axes will converge at their respective vanishing points. If the camera and the object are perfectly aligned on all three axes, there is only one vanishing point. Essentially, lines that recede in the distance and are parallel to each other in space (not in the 2d representation) will converge at a vanishing point. Yes, this applies to slopes, too, but the sloped edges will converge at a completely different vanishing point that isn't on the regular horizon line, but that's going a bit far right now. I have to talk about this, too, because it could be something fun for your class. :) If you keep everything in the same position and change the focal length of the camera, the vanishing points move together or apart, which also expands or compresses the depth. If you move the camera to keep the object the same size, it is called the Hitchcock Effect, Hitchcock Zoom, Dolly Zoom, etc. Here is that effect being used in a movie:
  17. "Sketch models" is usually a term for quick 3D models that are built to explore ideas, like hand drawn sketches. Here are links about sketch models: http://www.tumblr.com/tagged/sketch-models http://www.r2fact.com/mock-up-sketch-model.php http://inside.shepleybulfinch.com/2011/04/the-sketch-model-as-iterative-design-tool/ But all that is just semantics and I understand where you are going with this. :)
  18. I was just looking at my 9396 and wanted to build one in black. No stickers helps to complete the unmarked look. :) I'm just happy it isn't yellow. ;)
  19. I'm thinking it isn't for me, which means nothing because I'll probably want one as soon as I see it in person.
  20. This is great! I like the support wheels. They set the tone for the entire projects. :)
  21. It was popular with kids at one time, and many of those kids became AFOLs because of Benny and his SSS. I can see parents dumping money on CSReboot kits (for the kids, of course ). Maybe the parent builds it, maybe the kid builds it, or maybe they work on something together, and not as a parent helping their kid, but as two FOLs bridging 35 years. For me, I'd love reissued CS sets but I'm realistic.
  22. I agree. I think I mentioned it earlier, but I'm leaning towards $249. $199 for the almost 2000 pieces + another $50 for George Lucas. The other SW UCS prices confirm it (for me).
  23. I felt the same way. There is a 10+ year difference between the exterior and interior. But I still like it. I'd probably mod it by adding upright coin-ops and pinball machines. :)
  24. NEVER end an auction in this situation. It is usually a scam. Even if it isn't a scam, only he is assured to benefit. You might run the risk that another bidder might not challenge him, but he knows what it is worth and is afraid of other bidders. That right there is enough to let the auction run its course and you'll probably get more.
