Agreed.... too light. BTW... how much does it weigh anyway? Great little build. Two L motors in something so small? Wonderful! -- I know this is hard to do, but if at all possible you need a cameraman (woman) A lot of the video was too far away to really see it. Or perhaps shooting the vid from a little higher.... it was a little too level with the cart to really see it well. Excellent build though!

I don't think I have ever heard of anyone doing this before. I think it is kinda a nifty idea.... and the Arocs is perfect for this application. Come to think of it.... I think this would make for a fun competition. Combining official A and B models into one model.... even if the end product isn't realistic and completely silly. Kinda a fun idea IMO. Well done on this merging of the two models.

Keep at it zblj. Although I have not commented on this post yet....i have been following with eagerness. Many have lamented the lack of non-wheeled technic builds.... Well.. This would be a non-wheeled technic build for the ages!! -
[MOC] RC Micro Truck
nerdsforprez replied to Chade's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Nice job. Quick question though.... How come you developed your moc based on the wheels? Just because of availability? Kinda different to base a whole model on the wheels.... Unless there is some wow factor about them (like those in the ucs tumbler or new drag racer.......)Which.... With those in question, there is not -

Third. I advocated a long time ago in this thread for some type of summary or condensing the info so it is more digestible. Breaking it into two threads would be one way to achieve that. -
Great build and wonderfully entertaining. This post really is the whole package.....

I have not noticed anything with the new ARocs.... but I have seen that happen in some of my older sets. After a long time sometimes they begin to stick. I know that some silicone spray has been used by many. I actually have had very poor experiences with silicone spray. Perhaps I have bought the wrong stuff.... but right on the can of most it says not to be used with plastic. However, I have had wonderful luck with this stuff: It is a type of personal lubricant. I am not trying to be cute, funny or inappropriate. Really not. I have used this on my LPEs that are now several years old and they still work like they did when they were first built. Still very well lubricated. Much better than any silicone spray I have ever used. If you are concerned about the cylinders being a little too stiff I recommend this stuff or something similar.

Do not do this at home
nerdsforprez replied to Phantom59's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
hmmm.... I am assuming that the motors and many other things are non lego as well? I don't think that even the RC motors can produce that kind of power. The speed... yes... but not on something that big...?? -

I added a light kit to 42043: http://www.moc-pages.com/moc.php/418368 and this is the first thing I plan to do with this model as well...... -
soft axles shape
nerdsforprez replied to nerdsforprez's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Perfect. Hot water trick it is. THanks! -
Hey everyone.... I have some older sets that i will be borrowing some soft axles from for my current project. Some seem permanently bend in the shape of the old model. I have tried to bend them in the reverse direction, leave them overnight, etc. with no luck. Anyone have any tricks to re-straighten or return an old soft axle to its original shape?

Agreed. the price. I don't get it either. I am not great at the history of Lego..... but have we ever seen such a huge bump in price that fast? I mean, the Unimog was a trend setter at just over 200 pieces, and I can't remember its price compred to other sets at that time, but I don't think that it was a whole 60-70 bucks more than any other sets prior to it..... like this set will likely be. Honestly though.... I don't mind, and I will buy one if not two. We (AFOLs) have been requesting a set like this for a while.... and if this is TLGs attempt at testing the water then we have to respond in the right direction. Or we won't have our voices heard any longer. I know this has been said earlier in the thread but if this is a set more set for adults than others then TLG may be in the appropriate price range. Other, similar adult hobbies, like RC car building, model ship building, robotics packages.... are stilll so much more...... -
Little American Truck
nerdsforprez replied to Appie's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think this is extremely well done. We see some things done on a small scale... but this is really small scale yet functional and good looking as well. Building for both looks and functionality at this scale is very difficult.- 31 replies

As I mentioned before, this thread is similar to this one: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=86174 however this thread focuses on collecting as well as one's building space. My collection is growing a little larger, this is not all of it..... but some of it as well as my building space. Ever since I got back in the building game, I have always admired Blakbird's collection.... also the collection of others. But now that I have amassed some collection.....I am realizing that perhaps I am not as interested in collecting as I thought. I noticed that I am always taking from my display sets..... when I lack a part or two for a new MOC. I also have built some things on just general system bricks..... mechas, star wars ships, etc.... but I have made the difficult decision to take them apart and sell those pieces. Keeping all my Technic.... but the system bricks are going. That means my UCS star wars sets. Wondering if anyone else faces that conundrum. I have the space.... I just feel that perhaps the effort involved in keeping up the collection isn't as fun for me as actual building..

White is the New Red

Despite the hype, 15L liftarms are still nearly double the price of 15L liftarms in red..... *sigh* Edit: 15L liftarms in white are nearly double...... -
White is the New Red
nerdsforprez replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Sariel first recommended this a while ago..... and I severely second it. I would love to see something in like a metallic or flat silver. Silver with black or something. I think that would be great. TLG has already produced panels in this color: What I wouldn't give to see a super car in this color or at least in the color combination...... -
Wish it were true. Many have played with this idea a lot. I am one of them. I have whole pages on my MOCpages dedicated to this idea. For example, about a year ago I applied an RC motor (Titan 380) and it helped with the speed. However, the speed was still limited.... not by the power of the motor but by the bounciness of the springs. http://mocpages.com/moc.php/412797 Yes.... I could have rebuilt the model with two yellow shocks instead of one.... or any combination of those made from Lego.... but the lesson remain the same. I don't think that Lego Technic is limited by motors etc. as much as we think they are. They are more limited by the material that they are made out of.... and therefore, even with stronger motors you will continue to run into some problem that will inhibit performance. Another example was a rock crawler I build just a few months ago. http://mocpages.com/moc.php/422162 The message of the build was that Technic performance is limited not by its motors (as everyone assumes) but rather the connections. Check out Minds-i on youtube. They have a video that shows them doing essentially the same thing as this company. But look at their motors. Not so much more powerful that PF motors. The real difference in performance is higher RPMs and their connections. They have a system that allows their bean (like liftarms) to lock together. Therefore not only do they have higher performing motors.... but they are allowed to use all their power. More powerful PF motors would not do much for Technic. It will only rip models apart. Blakbird has commented on this several times.... and I tend to agree with him to a degree. If you want something that is uber fun to drive or has uber performance.... transition to RC cars/trucks. If you want more versatility in the build.... stick with Lego. Can their be a happy medium? Sure.... and that is what I think the makers (and OP of this post) are going for. But for one to think that Lego will ever be able to perform like a real RC car/truck... that simply is not the case.

Welcome to the forum and GL on this project! I have also built a truck with an LPE. The LPW is Alex's, from LPEpower (I always give him the credit - he makes likely the best LPEs out there) - although I have built my own his are much better. Why re-create the wheel? Trial trucks, or anything driven with an LPE over PF allows trucks to do things they would not have been able to do otherwise. My unimog goes in 7 inches of water no problem: You will really have to gear it down. I had to gear mine down incredibly to make it work.... not because of lack of torque just because the LPE ran to fast when I needed lots of power. For a large truck you will likely have to gear yours down as well.

@MSc Shobaki - I think perhaps your response to Zblj could have been taken better if a few things would ave been considered:- Beginning a post with your degree, although logically - speaking makes sense, from a social standpoint probably is not the best idea. There are many on this site with advanced degrees, and some with advanced degrees and experience that surpass even yours. Not a good tree to bark up. In addition, it places people on the defense right away. - You even admit in your post that your opinion carries more weight when considered from a certain POV. A strict Engineer's POV. That is excellent, and perhaps true, but it is still based from a certain POV. However, you make your remarks as the definitive voice on the matter. Many bring their academic book-knowledge to the table on the forum here.... which is great and helpful. But we all know that academic, book-knowledge, doesn't always apply. Know the differences and potential conflicts that can arise when strict academic principles are applied to real-life scenarios. Rarely are there such definitive answers to problems as such poised in this post, rather answers according to a certain POV; but a POV that perhaps not everyone is ascribing to. Overall your message sounds like it was given with the best of intentions. Keep giving your opinions because it sounds like you have much to offer. IMO, just perhaps consider the points described above.
