  1. Not sure what you mean by years ago but I had one explode on me in the mid-2000's. Scar right here that reminds me everyday with metal fragments still embedded in my arm....
  2. Silly + brilliant = silliant. I dub this MOC "silliant"
  3. Hmm... sorry its not possible. I attached them from mocpages, which I am sure you know is now dead. I know there used to be a function where one could delete them themselves, I guess that is no longer an option? I remember back in the day simply deleting my own posts when my attachments eclipsed my allowed space...
  4. I am trying to clear old photos I have added. But there is no delete button, or at least not that I can see. How can I clear old photos I have added attached to threads in the forum?
  5. I agree we should also respect other's opinions... but I am not sure this thread qualifies as such. More of a rant (and they aren't the same thing). I suspect this to be locked sometime soon....
  6. Perhaps this is a language/metric used thing. For the record, I love Sariel's calculator. Great tool. But, in terms of this language, I have always hated the notation (ex: 24t driver gear with a 8t follower gear = 1:3 ratio). Stating it .33333:1 makes MUCH more sense to me. So, this whole idea of what is intuitive versus not-intuitive may be location/language specific. Not sure there is any set standard here. For the record, I live in the US. But agree not sure if this is a meaningful change. Even if the metric used in Sariel's calculator is not intuitive to me it is good for me to mentally work out the solution both ways. Helps with overall understanding IMO.
  7. Thxs! Yea.. I already started my first MOC in several years. I couldn't help myself even though my building space is not yet complete. It is amazing how things progress.... there are many pieces and techniques to acquaint myself with. I am unfamiliar with many new pieces after 2017ish. I just learned in building this new post-2017 MOC that the 1L wormgear is not simply the 2L cut in half (which I previously thought). It has a completely different diameter!
  8. So I am going to answer my own question here. I ordered these acrylic boxes from banggood and they are great. One of the questions I had regarding such boxes is if they could also support the weight of other boxes is stacked. I am happy to report they can, and then some. I have stacked three here, and things have held up just fine. I could stack more if I wanted. I built a cage around them out of industrial pipe for looks and additional support since this combination you see here will serve as legs for a large console table top I will fit it with once the other leg is complete. These things rock... great buy at only around 80 bucks USD for each. Lego room almost done. Will be happy to see it complete and actually return to building but these little projects have served as a nice replacement
  9. I actually think we are in agreement. As mentioned, if the description of purism is a little more fluid, then that is positive as far as I am concerned. And as I specified, the guidelines of no cutting parts, modifying, no glue, etc. is a far cry away from third-party string, tires, etc. I don't think that anyone seriously contends one can't use some of these things. Even our beloved competitions, known for their "purism", usually accept at least some third party elements.....
  10. Once you've been around the forum long enough you realize the intention of a post and where it eventually goes are certainly not the same thing and completely independent of one another! Seriously though.... in terms of "purism" I think historically it has been (unfortunately) fairly black and white. So no, I don't think there is much discussion, or at least historically, of what purism is. Either you build with all Lego or you don't. If that is not the case any longer, well that is a good thing as far as I can tell. But. ... in terms of what it means to different people I do think we have to be somewhat cautious. I mean, it seems fairly fashionable nowadays to put your own spin on pretty much anything. Describe things your own way. I don't find this very scientific or functional. I think we have to somewhat avoid it. So at least some guidelines of purism I think is needed. Like not gluing things, cutting or modifying actual parts, etc...
  11. We may want to tread lightly here (myself included). I suspect an underage OP here....
  12. Ditto to what others have said. I may have been a little harsh. Don't worry about PF leaving.... it happens in virtually in every enterprise out there. Things/products are improved and companies move on from them. Look on the bright-side, in a few decades you will have a piece of history. Also.... like others have said, although not available through TLG, PF will still be around through third party vendors for quite a while....
  13. Yea - and I get it. I get the thrill of doing something within the confines of certain rules. And responses on this page are certainly more balanced and well-thought than some in the past - I like them in that they seem to articulate the fluidity of the concept of Lego purism. In the past it, at least to me, seems to have been interpreted by most as a black and white concept; whereas right now it seems to me much more fluid....
  14. 100 signatures and then what? TLG will continue to produce PF? Not sure this has really been thought through...
  15. The idea of Lego "purism" is a moving target and so poorly defined. Even TLG doesn't believe in Purism as they continually churn out new Technic elements year after year. These aren't obscure appendages, but important connecters, panels, etc. that continually change the face of the hobby. Consider this; there are AFOLs who now take a year or longer to build a MOC. Can you imagine taking such time, trying to complete something within the confines of what is considered official Lego a year ago, the pain, agony, time and perfection only to have them release an official piece that facilitates your build 10X just a few days or weeks after you took a year or longer to complete the same thing?
  16. I still have mine built. I also have these rims. Perhaps I should try to change them - they look really good. Still one of my most favorite models. I don't keep things for long.... but this is one that I still don't see me taking apart anytime soon.
  17. I also love this build. Great scale and love the Technic figure by it. Not sure I would go with the actual chain though.... many Harleys are now driven by bands anyway, I would at least consider an elastic....
  18. Can someone review the story behind the metal U-joints? I watched @Sariel's video, and he showed their well enough, but why are they offered (I mean aside from the obvious) and how useful are they? I did not know this about the Cada models.... are they only offered in their motorized sets? Seems they would be useful enough as U-joints are some of the most fragile Lego pieces....
  19. And a good scale at that. For many years I loved huge builds. But now I am finding my sweet spot somewhere between huge builds and middle-sized. I like the scale for this MOC....
  20. I like these builds, especially in a time where there is concern of over-saturation of the MOC market, or even Technic line, of certain vehicles. Concepts such as these, mechanisms only, Akiyuki machines, etc. all branch the hobby outward...
  21. Yea, it was not the best. AFOLs dramatically improved on the design (chassis and other parts) within weeks (days??). I get your point, but don't think it applies with the Chiron. No surprise here, I'm no apologist for TLG - but I don't think they really ever create an optimal design. I get it - I think I have a different take on things than most. I don't even think it is in their best interest to lord over details the way AFOLs do on many Technic models.
  22. I agree with others. The flex is not due to ABS limits. In fact, I have 42056 and Chiron on my shelf at the moment. 42056 has a lot more flex than Chiron. I also have @Didumos69's hammerhead supercar and there really is not any flex (also a 1/8 scale car). His build prided itself on may angles to provide strength to the frame and he succeeded wonderfully. Chiron's flex (which like I said I think is at least better than 42056) is due to poor design, not ABS limitations.
