nerdsforprez replied to howitzer's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Wonderfully put. Like I have said all along, any back and forth on this topic was never about "folks on EB not being able to handle constructive feedback..... or criticism." It was how it is given. Not that it is given. This was very well put and to the point. Nothing less. Great advice, still direct, not spoon-fed. But not divisive or demeaning either. But I hope the OP and others can benefit from it. -
Control+ General Discussion

I also am kinda sad for the change. I mean, I am all for progress, but not sure I am really all the excited about the Control+ system. I haven't had much of a chance to build much in the last few years, and once I am ready to get up and running again (later this year) PF will be all but gone. At least from Lego. Oh well, such is progress I suppose.... -
Clever.... reminds me of JK Brickworks....well done.

Let's honor @howitzer's request and leave things be. He and @sariel resolved things and there seems to be no animosity among the two. Kudos to both of them. @sariel has always been a great contributor to AFOLs, to say anything else would be disingenuous. He made some caustic remarks, but he and the OP resolved them. Time to move on. The issue was never about "offering criticism" - anyone who can read knows that. Of course @mechbuilds is right there is a difference between....well what he wrote. And about the snowflake comment.... again, not even worth a comment. There was no over-sensitivity problems at all anywhere... which is what that term refers to. Nothing wrong with calling a spade a spade. That is not over-sensitivity. That is clarity. To the OP, I am glad that you got something from the feedback. That is what it is all about. Hopefully your project progresses into something your child really enjoys. Keep up the building... I am you learned something in all this.... Back to the MOC! -

Wish I could take this all as sincere but sorry, I cannot. You are far too brilliant to be posting so much nonsense. And I truly mean that.... as a consumer of your work for the past decade, I can tell you are a very smart individual. But this is drivel. Helping and showing off your acumen are different things. If you wanted to help I know you are bright enough to think of a better way to put things. In your own words you were aware of the struggle (i.e. " I had a hard time thinking of how to comment on your suspension") and yet decided to go with " Do me a kindness and take it apart, please", "complete randomness of it", "hurts my eyes", "not massacre it" shows you failed in thinking how to comment (and yes, this is a "series"). Also, it demonstrates that you weren't really trying to help. This language sounds much more like mocking to me. And the fact you are trying to package this into some sort of "helping" wrapping paper and now are trying to play the victim is risible. I wish it were due to stupidity.... but like I said it is not. You are far too smart for that. This is due to arrogance. And I truly doubt you were trying to help. Poke fun, make an example, show your acumen, perhaps.... but such are not the same as helping. Do you ever make any recommendations on threads by other builders that possess similar talent? I mean the big-timers? Perhaps. Admittedly I don't know. But I rarely, if ever see anything from you on tough threads from like perhaps @Didumos69, @Jeroen Ottens's, or many others really talented builder's threads. It seems like you pick at the soft balls, the lobs that are easy to knock out of the park. When it is easy to show what a "prolific" (your words) Lego builder you are. Lastly, can we stop the whole EB doesn't allow for criticism gripe? It is sooooo passe. Others have tried it as well and it is such a limp excuse. There are so many, many great threads where folks engage in pages and pages of positive criticism, constructive feedback, etc. to end up on a final result. There are SO many threads where help is given. REAL HELP. Not just attempts for talented and knowledgeable builders to flex their muscles in the faces of those who perhaps struggle. God forbid you actually have to use some of your great language skills and diplomacy to get your point across without appearing caustic. If that is such a difficulty for you that is not a reflection of weakness of the site that is a reflection of weakness of you. -

Com'on @Sariel. Not true nor accurate. Plenty of helping and constructive criticism on EB without needing to be snarky. I love your stuff. I love your contributions... but lets be honest....unless you are posting your creations, your reviews, or some solution you created your postings are minimal. You rarely, if ever comment on other's MOCs, despite your talents don't participate or even vote in contests, etc. And then you post a series of snarky posts for this one thread. Rife with sarcasm and an aire of superiority. Why someone so talented as yourself chooses to single out this thread they way you have is beyond me. There are plenty of GREAT builders out there that don't show such arrogance. And then try to package it in this "trying to help" wrapping and play the victim? Man... just stop. I have loved your stuff for a long time. Still do and I support it. All while knowing there is a good dose of arrogance in your work. I accept it. But man, that arrogance really is showing in this thread.... you might want to tuck that *&#$% in. -
Thxs for moving my post. I was an avid Mocpages user for years, but hadn't really been on the site for the last year until I recently attempted and found that it was down. although this is sad, to any frequent user it should not come as a surprise. Mocpages had been in decline for many, many, years. There would be stretches of time, often for days and up to a week, where the site would be don and then magically reappear. in fact, years ago I made a MOC making fun of this act (Lord Business shooting a bazooka at MOCpages servers). When I get home I'll search for the an image and post it. I made a whole post of in on the site but... obviously it is now gone. Luckily I too kept my pics. But.... looks like I need to update my signature block....

Probably late to this party... but did mocpages die? Can't seem to ever get it up and running. I know that for several years it was crashing and having significant problems, and I did not visit often. But checked like for the first time in like six months and I can't seem to get the site to load.

Lol.... I hope not. I don't think that would be very clever of me at all. At the end of the day, it is a discussion about Lego set color, not like politics or debating the ethics of mask-wearing during a pandemic No reason to shy away from expressing an opinion on THAT topic.....

I agree. Although i do think the point raised by @Ngoc Nguyen is interesting, in the public's eye the Osprey is military. And the public will not make the distinction... .or care about it.
-
Lol.... @Bartybum I love your comments. So many seem acrimonious. In your own words, recently posted on another thread... man, you gotta chill! As for "showing" you a comment.... no, I don't think I will. If you need "proof" feel free to look at the Sian thread again. There are literally pages and pages of nothing but folks expressing their agreement or disagreement on color choice for the model. People going back and forth for pages and pages as to which color is "best" when color is nothing but personal taste. You can't litigate personal taste. You can tally responses for some objective idea or majority preference, but that still does nothing to dilute the preferences of the minority. IMO it really is a bit pointless. That is all. Nothing more. I made the comment hoping that folks might stay connected to the actual technical and other aspects of this model rather than the thread disintegrating into pages and pages on nothing but color preference.
-
Yea, sometimes I wish folks would curb their approval/disapproval over color schemes. They are so subjective. So what if someone does not like a color scheme. Folks express such as though it is law. I admittedly am one of the odd ones, so I don't see the point. I don't like the Sian's color, but would seriously consider it if it was the Defender's color. I love military green that much. But the majority seems to like the lime green. Most are disapproving of the Osprey's color, but I absolutely love it. Great find here... as it appears the colors to exist in real life for some emergency rescue vehicles. Perhaps not an Osprey per se, but at least for something.....

Bravo to all. Very entertaining and loved to see a contest where smaller entries were the goal. I know we all thing that COVID and the extra time had something to do with the increase of participation, but could it have also been due to the fact that entries were all smaller? Perhaps for many it is not as intimidating to submit smaller models.....

Of course this is all based on an assumption that TLG gets the scaling correct. Which might be somewhat of a gamble....

Very good review. Best comment in the whole review, at least for me was the comment about the Chiron feeling like "your Dad's car" after building the Sian. That puts it in perspective. I remember feeling the same way about the Chiron after owning the Porsche. The density, the complexity, just felt so superior. With all of the Chiron's flaws, I was willing to accept it as far superior to the Porsche. If the Sian is something similar, to me at least that indicates Lego moving in the right direction....

you answered ur own question. in a nutshell: hype. with the lambo, cool box, podcast, etc. with crane nothing. you don't have motor1.com, and the motley of other male dominated sites doing pieces on the rough terrain crane, like they are on the lambo. hype equals moolah in today's world..... the green panels sitting so much higher than the black fins is weird i would say....

That would be fine and good it if did not create a functional problem. In the last two supercars there has been binding/catching in the gearbox that reduces play. Lets wait for reviews for the real verdict but this inefficiency/redundancy issue is not a mere pedantic nuance, it decreased the quality of play in the prior models....

I agree. In fact, I think that the whole chassis is much denser. I have both, there really is a large difference and as I mentioned earlier in the thread, the Sian chassis looks similar in terms of density. I can easily see a difference of ~900 pieces between Chiron/Sian and the Porsche. Also, one must remember that another reason to the density difference (aside from larger, come complex transmissions) is engine size. Chiron engine, if counting just the large, unwieldly engine block elements was almost 3x as big as the Prsche (6 cylinders versus 16) and the Sian's engine will be double the size. This crams everything else.....

I thought the same thing. In fact, without the bodywork, and just the chassis.... I see pretty much the same thing as I did with the Chiron..... Though I do think a cool idea for TLG would be to come up with a supercar chassis.... and then several different body part packs that one could build several body "shells" to just add to the chassis. Kinda like RC cars do...
