  1. I agree. In fact, I think that the whole chassis is much denser. I have both, there really is a large difference and as I mentioned earlier in the thread, the Sian chassis looks similar in terms of density. I can easily see a difference of ~900 pieces between Chiron/Sian and the Porsche. Also, one must remember that another reason to the density difference (aside from larger, come complex transmissions) is engine size. Chiron engine, if counting just the large, unwieldly engine block elements was almost 3x as big as the Prsche (6 cylinders versus 16) and the Sian's engine will be double the size. This crams everything else.....
  2. I thought the same thing. In fact, without the bodywork, and just the chassis.... I see pretty much the same thing as I did with the Chiron..... Though I do think a cool idea for TLG would be to come up with a supercar chassis.... and then several different body part packs that one could build several body "shells" to just add to the chassis. Kinda like RC cars do...
  3. Personally, I like the fact that I can play with and buy toys. If other adults, or AFOLs, think that this this is something to be ashamed of, that is on them. When you have a great job, own your own home, have successfully raised children and a wonderful marriage AND you can play with toys; well, that is the most complete type of adult out there. Even the shrinks have been telling us for years that when one has successfully mastered being an adult, they often return to their childhood roots. It is nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, insofar that one has successfully "adulted" (i.e. job, socially responsible, has family if desired, etc.) I take it as a sign of maturity......
  4. Fair enough. But it seems like presentation is a fairly consistent theme others have critiqued as well, and, well, lets be honest, you shared for a reason. Most folks at some point want their hobbies to be relevant not just to themselves, but to others as well. Same with most artists. We all seek relevance in what we do, in work and in play. I suspect that is why you shared. So, perhaps you might want to consider that sharing with others is part of "playing" with Lego as well. Perhaps not as much as building, but "playing' nonetheless. That perspective might help you get motivated to put a little more time and effort in your model's presentation. Like Erik mentioned above, you might have a really, really great model. But if it is not presented in a digestible manner, we won't ever know it.
  5. Yea, you might get some negative comments on the looks, but I second some of the comments made already. Lots of technical stuff going on here.... lots of great technical stuff and other stuff that is well, still undecipherable. Perhaps something constructive to say would be if there is not much to the looks of your model, but a ton of stuff to see functionally, would be to take some time and make a good video of the functions. You have added lots of photos and some text, which is helpful, but you will lose some folks (and partly me) when many are fuzzy and unreadable. You have obviously taken a lot of time to build this great model, take a little time to make a video or better photos to properly display it! But overall great job and have to admit, it looks like you had a blast building it. So complex!
  6. So I clicked the link provided and it takes me to an information page. From there I can click to a link that takes me to a download page but there are many, many options for downloads. Forgive my lack of computer savvy, but not sure which is right for me to download. I run Windows 10 (64 bit) but not sure to download the 2016 or 2019 version. All I want is the instructions for the carrier (non-suspended version). Gearing does not need to be redone. Drive line just needs to be extended. I am doing it now, but I will not know how it fits the boom until I do that as well. But remember, you can also just move the mounting spot on the boom to fit the longer actuators.
  7. Wow... Thank you for this picture. It really helps me put into terms my overall impression of the car. There seems to be so much love for it to an extent that I think I am being too hard on it because I have been openly critical of it. Which is weird because I usually don't put alot of stock into these UCS models and I enjoyed (relatively) 42056 and 42083. But I really don't like the look of this one. In my field we talk about the left side of the brain processing details and the right side processing an overall gestalt of any given thing. I look at the details of this, and there are some nice ones. However, the overall gestalt is just lost to me. The flat roof and lack of pitch in the nose do horrible things for the overall gestalt of the vehicle, which ultimately gives me my poor impression of it. If I were to put it into brain terms I would say it is left brain strong while right brain weak. Right hemisphere is also where we process more of our emotion - which perhaps gives me my overall negative impression........
  8. Wow. I know we are all saying it. But truly, I never want to do this again. Took me almost two hours to come up with my selections. So many good entries. Word to the wise: even though videos are not required, if I am trying to win a competition, I am adding one. How can you show functions without 'em? Animations help, but I am still adding video. 59: 10 20: 6 8 : 4 33: 3 40: 2 6: 1
  9. okay, so we've all deduced, i guess, that this (single) photo is authentic. however, why would leaker stop at one photo? and of the bottom of box. if im a leaker, i start posting more content. perhaps through fake accounts, but do it nonetheless. i happen to believe others think the same. why havent we seen more content?
  10. Indeed, intelligence and attention are only moderately correlated. Correlation is not nearly as strong as one would think. The English phrase "absent-minded professor" comes from somewhere....
  11. Great point. I feel the same. We gripe so much about the end result of this UCS line, but it sure is challenging TLG to produce new stuff. For this reason, at the end of the day, I like the UCS line. But, thankfully, this is one car I can save $ on- cause I'm not buying it. Designer turned visuo-spatially challenged on the front fender and I for one am not a fan of the color. I would have gone for the military green color, but not this....Not a problem. Like I said kinda relieved; I fell for 42056; got 42083 as well but I am happy with that purchase. But don't want to fall victim to another UCS car. Thankfully, I won't.
  12. Good information. I am surprised though about the needing the extra motors. It actually seems overkill to me. The large crane I built several years ago has two more axles than this crane and I drove it with only one XL motor and it drives fine. Steering is somewhat difficult but this has nothing to do with the motors or power (and I can't remember the motors in there) it has everything to do with the crappy Lego electronics (PF remotes and receivers)
  13. I think this is an excellent point. Lol... I love how we sit and spend gobs of time pontificating, analyzing the color from online photos, and dissecting photos with software. When in reality there is a huge degree of variance in online photos of actual colors themselves. Brilliant.
  14. I am not sure I understand your point. Although true, this issue presents itself in REAL life and therefore I am sure the physics have been figured out by folks much brighter than me. But, as the boom raises, the planes cross ("A" shape). All I am arguing for is fidelity with actual cranes. Which when booms are lowered, are parallel to lifting mechanism in REAL crane as well. Here are some pics from Grove 6400. Not claiming 42108 is perfect, but I do think it does a better job resembling real cranes in this aspect.
  15. Yes, but something that with better planning is certainly possible. See exhibit A, B and C (and others I referenced) Also, 42009 had horrible boom elevation. Not even close to that of a real crane... so although what you share is true I don't think it applies much to 42009 Sadly, can't say I see it that way. Higher elevation - no "A" here. In fact, parallel comes to mind. Still a huge difference from the other cranes I cited.
  16. So decided to get this set as it will provide a good parts pack for the upgrades I eventually want to do to my Liebherr 1500 8.1 (below in signature block). One thing I noticed that this model actually got right that I don't think has been commented on (forgive me if it has, don't have the energy to read all 12 pages of thread) is where the actuator is mounted. Starting with the esteemed 42009 (I did not go back further) Lego has gotten this wrong, big time. With 42009 the actuator is literally mounted so the metal shaft is parallel to the boom! This results in horrible physics, and with the push from the actuator being directed horizontal as much as it is vertical to lift the boom. In a real crane, the lifting cylinder is mounted several units away from the base of the boom mount, almost (not quite) forming and "A" shape. This lifts the boom much more than just pushes it. Physics are much better. (Grove 6400 below) For my crane, this difference is not as extreme, but still is there (Liebherr 1500 8.1 below) 42083 did better than 42009, but still a "fail" in my book. The offset appears to be only about one stud, so again the actuators nearly run parallel to the boom. 42108 actually gets it right. The offset is several studs, and mimics the offset of a real crane. Much improved physics. In fact, if the boom vs. actuator mount location was similar in 42108 to 42009, because 42108 is not motorized, I am not sure no one would be able to lift it! Edit: not gonna post more pics, but it appears as though 8053 and the esteemed 8421 got it right. Not sure what happened to 42009 or 42082.
  17. Oh no.... consider me a believer.... Just bad optics I guess. Great model, one I likely will truly build in the future.
  18. Oh this is a beautiful build. Well done! And given that I have 42056 (which I do not like all that much) I will have to built this. But, forgive me, the acceleration footage looks to me that it is all downhill. Significantly. Please tell me I am wrong...
  19. Hello All - Few questions about this project. I believe I want to update my Liebherr 1500 8.1 (in signature box) at some point. Building this Grove MK6400 crane would be a great idea, but I also may want to extend it something similar to the Grove 7550 crane to keep all 8 axles of my original. Several questions. And I apologize upfront if these are answered in the thread. There is no way I can read all ~30 pages of this. I have browsed through it, and still cannot find my answers. (1) - the rebrickable page states that the suspended version has some steering or reliability problems to it. Has this been the experience of others as well? I am not familiar with the 7Z format of the files on the rebrickable site. Can anyone fill me in what format this is and what application or software I need to open the files? Thanks!
  20. 380 euro? ahhh!!! usually im defending the price, but for these cars it just keeps rising, rising....
  21. oh i would. i dont plan on getting this set, but it it is army green i just might.... again, folks need to remember color preference is just that. preference. wouldnt make any statements about objectivity where color preference is concerned.
