Admittedly, hauling the bottles around is not all that fun However, I think that most people that are into these type of builds are more in it for the creation and testing the limits of stuff then pure drivability. It is the creation of things that gives me the kicks. If I simply want fun out of driving, grab an RC car or truck, not your LEGO stuff. But can't beat LEGO when it comes to creativity, functionality AND fun.
  2. I apologize if this has foung the forum before, I searched for "minds-i" and although a billion posts came up none that I could find had anything to do with what I am about to post. ANyways, I found this site and was astounded with the similarity of this company's product with TLG. How are they getting away with this? Has anyone on the forum any experience with these products? Good? Bad? Are they an alternative to Technic and PF? http://mindsirobotics.com/
  3. Well ya beat me to it. I also am working on some modifications to Sheepo's horse to make it faster.... but like you have little time to complete them. I won't give away details, but hopefully should be able to post soon. I understand you are busy.... but looking forward to a video soon
  4. Going on a hard surface will make a BIG difference. Also, best lubricant is silicone-based lubricant. Olive oil is okay, but silicone spray is better. Commonly used for LEGO pneumatic engines
  5. For what it is worth, i built a large and heavy crane (~4,000 pieces), and although powered only two axles, only did so with one XL motor. Now, given this, I will say that for the purposes of the build it did not need to go fast, so I geared it down to have a lot of torque. What I found is that one XL motor powers my 8 axle crane just fine... again slow, but then that is not a problem. It is not an off-road crane. Unless you plan on going off-road with your truck, or want excessive speed, I am not sure that you will have to put so much power in your model. Two L motors, powering 2 or 3 axles (doesn't matter) should do the trick. Sheepo's (4,000+) mustang is powered by two L motors, which seems to move just fine (for a Lego model). Unless you want your truck to go faster, and have it geared properly, again, don't think that you need it to have so much power. Now... if this is a trial truck... then just disregard everything I have just said ...Sheepo's (4,000+PIECES) mustang .....ooops.... forgot to add
  6. Wow, have people been trying to implement RC features (motors, receivers, etc) into Lego vehicles? I have heard of people using new power techniques to power PF motors (lipo, multiple battery boxes etc.) but I have not seen people actually using RC motors yet.
  7. True. You know, we all extol LEGO builders and place them on a platform stating that they have a job that we all would love to have. While true, we have to remember that it is still a job to them. They have deadlines, bosses, limitations, politics of the workplace etc that they have to deal with just like all of us. Although I still think the LEGO builders have super awesome jobs, I try not to trivialize their careers and remember that they still are working when they create a product. I am sure they get a lot pf playing in as well though
  8. In addition to autovalves, there are reasons to control pneumatic valves with PF functions manually, not automatically. I have created such a unimog with a combined electric regulator. Big and clunky, it could serve a purpose for some builds. You can use actuators to control LEGO pneumatic values.

  11. Not really. Make sure the platform or structure is strong; typically its best if technic parts are used for this. Google "lego space hangar" or something similar for ideas.
  12. Looks like I am kind of the odd man out. I keep everything I build. Yes, it does get expensive..... and moving is a pain in the rear but I like not just building but collecting too. Technic is easy to move, but other stuff is hard. I just completed a large diorama and I am scared as crap to move it, we will see how it goes. Because I am military, I move often. If this move does not go well then I will swear off all other builds and do just Technic. Of all the MOCs and MODs others have done, the only one I have built is crowkiller's vampire GT. I am currently working on Sheepo's Mustang, but it is taking a while as I have a little surprise I am working on. I want to power it with something other than PFs.
  13. Lets hope so. There is no shame for making us pay for instructions. I am more than happy to pay for such fine work. The mere fact that Sheepo is willing to make what he does, and share it with others is super awesome. It allows mere mortals such as myself build something truly incredible. The end product is great, but the sheer experience is priceless.
  14. I don't consider it cheating. The OP asks what can be done to make Lego pneumatic engines more powerful, efficient, etc. and the answer lies in exactly what Alex at LPE is doing. You have to modify things. SOme may call it cheating..... I can it an answer.We focus so much on the limitations of actual LEGO elements, whether they be PF, pneumatics, bricks vs. liftarms, etc. But we have to remember that LEGO did not design their elements to be used in the way that they are being used by adult technic builders that are trying to make them as functional as possible. I see modifying the parts as an answer or extension of LEGO limitations, not an undesirable practice. With modified parts and external ways of providing pressure, pneumatic engines can produce far more power than PF motors.

  16. Hello All, Although this is probably more appropriate for MOCpages forum, the forum has little activity and is not nearly as cool as eurobricks! -- so I am posting my question here. I know that many are members of MOCpages so I am looking for a little help. I am about to post a new project (on mocpages) but all my last projects, when I post the photos are small except for the main photo. Now, one can click on the image and it will blow up, but the initial impression that people get is a small photo. This has not always been the case, and I have not changes anything about how I post the pics (see my unimog versus my rockcrawler in yellow; initially, (crawler) the photos are all large, but the unimog, all the pics other than the main one are small). They are of good size for web pages (around 600x800) so the actual size of the pic is not the problem, and from my memory I have not changed the size of the pictures that I post. I want my pics to be posted around the same size of those seen on my rockcrawler (yellow) project. You can see all the pictures that I am referring to on my pages (see signature block). Did MOCpages change something? I would just put each pic here but it will not show up the same size as it does on my page, you have to go to my page to see what I am talking about. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  18. So I searched for the post on third party tires but I could not find it anywhere. I used search terms "third party tires" and others with no luck. I only say that because I know there is a thread out there that deals with this but I could not find it so I apologize for the redundancy. But.....I just got some new tires for Christmas and they are absolutely huge. Yes, they are compared to the tires for the 8110 (unimog). So absolutely huge. I can't wait to drive on them. 2.2 not 1.9.. so I had to be creative with the hubs...but I am happy with the results. This will also allow me to place a planetary gear system in the inside of the hub and significantly slowing my 'mog but increasing the torque. I am adding a video to show how necessary this is, because despite the intense gearing already employed, it needs to be geared down even more. For more details, check out the mog on my mocpages. In my signature block. The mog is already ridiculously geared down.
  19. Everyone keeps commenting on the awesomeness of the B model for the Lemans. While it is wonderful, the B model for the Arctic truck gets my vote! I just saw your video and it shows a pic on the back of the box. For this reason only I will be, at some point, buying the arctic truck Nooo.. like he said in his post, in the US we will likely not get them til much later. I would not be surprised to see the US getting the sets until summer 2015

  23. Yup... I agree.. Also, I think that we want to think of ourselves as the demographic when in reality it is still like those described in this post. Kids who like moving engines, opening hoods, etc...
