I never said "targeted at children" and if you don't agree that TLG's main purpose is to sell then that is fine, but you are missing the boat. It definitely is and whether you agree or not doesn't make it so. This sounds meaner than it really is. The fact that TLGs main purpose is to turn a profit is not even an opinion or judgement, it is a fact. This may sound arrogant, but I assure you it is not. Let me make a point: when a business survives, especially on an international scale... then objectively speaking, the mere fact of their existence is to make money. Now you may argue, no... the main purpose of their existence is to build a great product.... and making money is a byproduct of that. However, this is wrong. To survive one must adjust a product to meet market demands, to not do so means extinction. Whether it be children or adults it does not matter, TLG group has a market and they are meeting that market, and like stated in the post by DrJB, costs are certainly cut to save money. Little nuances here and there add up. But alas.... this sounds all bad and Lord-Business-like... but I assure you again that it is not. I am glad that TLG is in it for the dough because it creates tons and tons of demand. With tons and tons of demand comes billions of bricks. Again folks, we would not have a forum like this w/o the shere quantity of bricks TLG group has made over the years. The shere number of bricks allows things to morph and evolve into something greater (which is exactly what I think is resembled in all the combined building power of those on the forum).

Remember the focus of TLG. They are not engineers, but designers of a toy, and their main purpose is to sell toys. We pooh pooh TLG sometimes for not meeting our rigorous standards, but remember there is a plus to a system that is only concerned about one thing, and that is selling sets. With selling sets comes the creation of literally billions of elements, the whole reason we are allowed to have a forum and community like this. Don't hate the beast people.....without market forces, business-type models, etc.... we would not have billions of elements to build with. Making things motorized, 4x4, look better, drive better, more functional, etc.. that is our job, not TLG's.

You should send the direct link. This is just the link to the magazine, Australian page. We do not know where to navigate to get to the story about you.

Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion
nerdsforprez replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
Okay, I know I am super late to this party and this probably has been posted before... however, a search reveals too much content to read in the 30 minutes I have so here it goes... There was some talk about he helicarrier being offered. Large set....3000-5000 pieces. ANy more information on this? -
Great edition, I read it during lunch --- I would like to add one thing to the article titled "building technic cradles for non-LEGO devices". This is not new, others have done this before but it has not received as much publicity as I would have thought. THose of us who are collectors and MOCers run out of room, and mounting things to walls can save space, especially if the model is huge. I don't have room to attach any more photos, and pasting a URL is not working, but it you look at my signature block (MOCpages) you can see that the mount holds a large (3,000 + piece) Millennium Falcon MOC on the wall no problem (at least once I use wall anchors)

Attaching pics to signature
nerdsforprez replied to nerdsforprez's topic in Forum Information and Help
mm....not having any luck. That is the only reason why I posted this. Perhaps there are too many filters on the computer I am using.... but I have done this in the past from this computer with no problems. Perhaps I will give it go when I get home.- 3 replies

* Sigh* Its posts like these that make me sad about my "dark ages" - I was just getting back into LEGO when 8043 was retiring. Still want the set, but now the prices are ridiculous. I can't comment on cool things like "studded versus studless" era b/c I only know the studless. I was able to pick up a super street sensation on the cheap, so that is a small redemption, but other than that I have no experience with the older flagships like the crane truck, older cranes, etc which I think is imperative to accurately respond to this post.

Power Functions Project
nerdsforprez replied to aminnich's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
www.philohome.comALso, I have heard many people talk about how other motors, non-PF, will rip LEGO elements to shreds, but I have not actually seen many posts or youtube vids showing this. Often talked about, rarely demonstrated. Any non-purists out there willing to give it a go? I am currently working on a project trying to power a large LEGO car (4000 pieces) with an RC motor. Once built, I will post vids and pics. -

LEGO Star Wars 2015 Pictures and Rumors
nerdsforprez replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The problem with these posts is that they simply become too long, and those of us that are late to the party... like myself, don't have time to read everything but have legit questions. So I am just going to post my two here.... i am sorry if the answer appears elsewhere in the post. 1) About a year ago there was a rumor of a remake or new UCS MF coming out. Large, very large like the last one. ANy recent new of this? True, untrue? and 2) One the first of the post it was rumored that a large set was coming out, possibly 3000-5000 pieces. any new news about what this may be? -
I do need to make better pics. I will try when I get around to it. Just getting into photo editing and have implemented shopping photos on my new stuff... but haven't done it on some of my old stuff. But if you check out my MOC pages, there are many pics of the model, along with the pneumatic configurations of the landing gear. There is also a video on my MOCpages of the landing gear working.
-
I have never shared my version of the MF here. It has been no MOCpages for a while. Thought I would quickly share. It has been quite a process, given that it was completely destroyed (because it fell) and then restored. I also built a wall mount which can be seen on my MOCpages. Picture of the poor thing after it fell So sad! I guess the fully automated landing gear (pneumatics) did not help. Unlike cats, MFs do not land on all fours But alas, the model has been rebuilt and hung with a mount made out of LEGO Technic. This time with wall anchors :)
-
So I really like the model, however, there are a couple things which I did not.... so I fixed them :). Check it out on my mocpages. Essentially, the main thing is that I don't think that a 200 dollar model, and a UCS set nonetheless, should expose the underside of plates. Should be covered by tiles..... As you can see, the underside of the wings are tiled....with details. more pics at http://mocpages.com/moc.php/390298

Are they available on pick a brick? If not, you cannot order then. And PAB has very limited Technic- I doubt they have then... and if they do, they will be incredibly expensive. Also, the OP's post is concerning the relative or possible extinction of the 1x16 brick, which, if it ever does occur, then it definitely will not be available on PAB. Even if it it only getting more rare, then it also decreases the changes that the 1x16 is available on PAB.

Late to the party, if this was in-person trust me I would bring a bottle of wine or something..... perhaps scotch http://mocpages.com/home.php/100020 -
So another way to perhaps look at things is to not consider the absolute number of 1x16 bricks, but the relative number compared to other bricks, such as the 1x14. In instances where perception is very different from factual data, relative values are often to blame. That is, it seems or appears that there are much less 1x16 bricks not because there actually are less, but because compared to other bricks, such as the 1x14, the ratio of 1x16 to 1x14 is less. Perhaps, like has been demonstrated in this post, the absolute number of 1x16's is not declining, but the relative number compared to other parts is. If this is the case, then the OP's perception is still accurate, despite absolute values remaining more or less stable. Also, I will say this. The OP was kind of harassed for posting this question. Simply my opinion here, but I am not sure the harassment was necessary. Yes, DrB could have done more research; however, it looks like he is employed already, does research and everything during the day, is pressed for time, etc. In other words....HE IS JUST LIKE MOST OF US. In addition, for most of us... his LEGO obsession is a hobby... so short cuts have to be somewhat accepted b/c we all have a limited time that we can dedicate to our hobbies. Taking a somewhat easy way out, or simply asking people instead of spending gobs of time researching, is what a hobby is all about. It is the reason why there is a forum..... yes, I could do research if I had a question regarding third party tires for LEGO... but why when there is a forum? Why re-create the wheel?

[MOD] 8070
nerdsforprez replied to Nalyd997's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I love the 8070. This is the set that brought me out of my dark ages. I know there were multiple super cars before the 8070, but I was not aware of them (I have since procured the super street sensation and I also love it). After I built it... I had to modify it. Love your mods... one thing I would highly recommend is using black rims though... heres my version with a ridiculously large air intake, black rims, and additional modifications... http://mocpages.com/image_zoom.php?mocid=354190&id=/user_images/100020/1361159791m_DISPLAY.jpg oopps... this should have posted the pic. Here is another try....
