  1. I have always enjoyed your stuff @busterhaus. Glad to see this thread. It seems like this is a growing trend.....that if you frequently post MOC pics, write-ups etc. to make them all on one thread. I am curious of the interest for more people to move in this direction. This may be an interesting poll to conduct...... individual posts for new MOCs from the same user, all MOCs posted on the same thread, or to maintain the current practice of just letting people decide on their own. I am sure there is a rhyme and reason for both......
  2. Lol...... I like it. Now you have some work to do. I want to see an exchange with......42006, 8288, 8043, 8421......
  3. Yes but the 2h Pics don't give piece count estimates, so difficult to know the anticipated size of the set.
  4. ?? hmmmmm... thats not how I interpret it. Quote: "this is the largest Technic set for the first half of 2016, a larger one is expected in the second half".... but reading it more thoroughly i see my own error. I think he is referring to an overall larger set for the second half.... but that does not mean a helicopter..... my bad. Can be anything. Talk about top-down processing
  5. my apologies if the answer to my question is already out there..... but in over 85 pages of this post, it is difficult to find specific answers to specific questions. I just saw Sariel's video for the heavy lift helicopter..... at ~ 43 seconds it mentions that there is a larger helicopter planned for the 2h of 2016. Anyone have any information regarding this helicopter?
  6. ....No reminder needed. She knows me all too well. If I could..... I would give her an honorary PhD in ... well.... me... lol...
  7. Lol....I'm a peaker. Its a disease. However, I also suspect she got me several fireplanes (42040), but am not sure. I am building a ******* that is in need of many white and red elements.... so this would be great. But I can't confirm this.....
  8. Lol.... I loved this post. But I don't think it is saying, hopefully, what you want it to say. Michael wasn't 100% human....or at least due to all his plastic surgeries technically he wasn't (I am sure that is what you were getting at, if not, any "human" example would do. However, even though he wasn't 100% human... we still consider him to be. Or at least I think the majority of people do. And I hope you do. But what you are saying that if something is not 100% of something, say, like a MOC, then it is not really a MOC. Michael was not 100% biology, but still we consider him a human, MOC's, not 100% Lego, but we still consider them Lego???? I don't think that was what you were getting at..... Also....(again, I liked your post) I dont think that not being a purist means that you are not filled with imagination. You want to be careful making broad generalizations. Some of the most creative people on this site repeatedly use non-Lego parts. Modifying Lego is one thing, and I think that is less tolerable, but if there is a piece that TLG simply does not make, and someone comes up with it..... how is that lacking imagination??
  9. Merry Christmas Everyone! My wife has no idea about this account.... so I can post whatever I want. With that being said......42042, Here I come! Thanks Honey!
  10. So.... using this on a current project. It is quite handy. It is a fully revolving platform for RC cars/trucks.... .
  11. There are many ideas for slewrings. Here is a bigger, more robust slewring I am building for a large, approx. 4,000 piece crawler crane I am working on. Simply type in crawler crane on brickshelf and you should have several great examples.
  12. Yea....when you think about 2-3,000 pieces, especially with battery boxes or other PF elements, things can really add up in terms of weight. Just be aware of this if you are relying on LDD or other software. Although I like your post and I think it is good to discuss, I don't really think there is a right or wrong way to build. Until very recently, I have never used LDD or other software. There certainly is a learning curve, but now that I am using it, it is only for crude prototype stuff.... not the final product. I still find it very limiting, but could have never found out this without trial and error. Everyone has a certain style....learn what works best for you and go from there..... In terms of buying bricks..... I agree what others have said about buying sets first up to a point. Once that point is crossed (and it is different for everyone) I think it is better to just shop for certain pieces. I have a relatively small "bank" of pieces, say 10,000 or so. But that is a great starting point for me. Occasionally I buy individual sets, but now I spend more time and money on BL orders. I find if I just buy sets I have too many valuable pieces just sitting around. Buy just one flagship (200$ or so) may get you thousands of pieces, but only a fraction of what you need. BL orders may only get you 1000 pieces for that amount of dough.... but get you what you need to get your MOC done.
  13. Broke down and read this thread. Nearly the whole thing. Congrats to the Op on this great project. Really fun to see the whole thing come to fruition from beginning to end. On another note, for pure MOCs I have never been one for WIP threads...... lots of times they seem to never pan out. However, although this was not a MOC, to see it develop over time and finally realize.....a real treat. Makes me rethink my stance on WIPs posts for MOCs.....
  14. Agreed. In addition, you want to consider weight, which digital building can't help you with. Especially if you are building something in the 1800 to 2000 range. Based on your statement about actuators, etc. I assume that you'll be focusing alot on function . Where weight becomes even more important.
  15. Its funny..... initially, the first pictures look like it was built with these tires: And I didn't think I likes them. But then... .the other pictures clarified that they were And I realized that I liked them very much. Talk about top down processing!
  16. Wow.... this is actually, IMO, a great idea. I have already built my own version of the crane, so I wont be buying this, but thinking on a broader scale..... I know there are many, like myself, who like to build the MOCs of some of the greats. I have built Paul B's Vampire, Sheepos Mustang, etc..... and likely would build more if I didn't have to scour BL or other sites to accumulate all the parts. I would gladly pay someone to do it for me.... which is kinda like what the OP is doing here...... BTW....@ritztoys....I would either consider also posting this on the Technic forum or a link to the Technic thread about the extended boom. Not sure that much will know what you are talking about here on the community forum. On the Technic forum yes, but perhaps not as much here.....
  17. Agreed. For drag racers.... you almost want something with a little edge. This car reminds me of Gary Busey... the actor. And btw.... I love Gary Busey. I almost expect the car to come out yelling something about Amazon TV or something
  18. Same here..... call it collecting or neuroses.... not sure which. But I never take things apart either. One day im gonna have to though... and I admit I am not looking forward to it.
  19. Happy holidays everyone. Don't be stingy... don't be a Scrooge or a Grinch. And definitely don't be a Darth Vader! http://mocpages.com/moc.php/422811
  20. I have followed Tim's videos for a while and I don't know how his vehicles can ever be called ugly. I love his vehicles and I think you did an outstanding job here. Very creative use for the bodywork....
  21. I think that a lot of it depends on what type of body you are adding. If you are going for looks, and it will be a full body, then likely it will have some weight, and therefore, the shorter version may work better. Nothing is more annoying than getting the power to weight ratio correct, steering correct, etc.... just to have the darn thing tip over all the time. Crawlers have to be able to maintain themselves at fairly extreme angles. On the other hand, if you can get away with a minimalistic body, then I, like others prefer the taller version. But, only if it does not affect the center of gravity too much. Based on how high it is... I am afraid that the crawler will be tipping over too much...
  22. Good question but I think it needs some clarification. You speak of at least two definitions of value in your post. You begin with using the word 'valuable' which seems to connote overall money...how much is it worth type of thing. But then you speak of valuable parts....kinda like what is the most bang-for-your buck sort of thing. IMO...two separate questions. As for the latter question, as a owner of both 8288 and 42042 i actually like 8288 more. I know that many will think this is heresy but here is my rationale: 8288 is a smaller scale of a larger, more intricate machine whereas 42042 is a larger scale of a smaller, less-intricate crane (IMO). And I think that is why people pay so much for it. The relative size of the boom, jib, etc make it look like a much larger real life crane, like a liebherr 1600 or something. As for parts, 41 and 31 l string are not cheap, and it has tons of 15 L liftarms for only an 800 piece set
  23. Lets not forget the C-model made by Buster Haus. Pretty sweet C model..... http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=106969&hl=
  24. I love the Santa's Rod. See?? He is a real person with real man-needs just like the rest of us
  25. Hmmmm...im not sure you're NOT responsible for my nightmares. My psychiatrist will be sending u a bill
