Is TLG now definitely phasing out baseplates?
Vindicare replied to merman's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Fair. From the few people I’ve talked to about this(which is 4 including myself), we were caught unaware & some are buying en masse. Some are buying in big lots. Myself, I have two packs that were recently bought & I hope to get a few more soonish. I would buy as I needed them, but now I’m going to have to stockpile a few. -
I did a strange thing today....I went to a movie! Saw The New Mutants, and was pleasantly surprised.

Great town! The video was nice, I like how it showcased parts of the city while also showing an overview. While I still hate curve road plates because of tiling issues, adding the posts like you did hides the usual jagged sidewalks(which isn’t easy to get away from). Well done on that.

That’s not even simpler...that’s an entire extra step needed in order to get what I already have. All I have to do is lay down the baseplates & I’m set. Plus, I would need to buy a bunch of 2x2 plates, as I don’t buy sets & sort them, I keep them together as sets when stored. -

Huh? It’s ridiculously easy to use. People either just tile over the studded area on the road plates, make parking spots, or leave them open. I take the light grey 1x tiles from the Modulars, leaving two rows of studs on the road plate, then tile over the rest. -
What to do when a knock off brand steals your moc?
Vindicare replied to legoMoccer's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Yep, I remember years ago when the B&N/Starbucks Modular was stolen & made by Lepin. And that was a big deal. The sting of having one’s idea stolen will hurt regardless of it being a known property or not. Can’t blame them for being upset. That’s still someone’s hard work & effort. Sure, the offense of it all shouldn’t be too high because it’s merely a copy of a well known game & not an original idea. -
I left mine as is also. It’s not a big problem to me. I just have mine at angle that makes it harder to see them. Then again, I wasn’t very bothered by them.

Lego City 2021 Rumours, information and discussion

This is money wasted though. I’d have to buy a lot of baseplates to replace the 17 road plates I currently use. Or I’d have to buy a bunch of plates to shift all of my Modulars to(which means I would need 4 plates for each of my 15(and an extra two for the extended AS) Modulars plus the next one. I’d rather spend that money on sets instead. And yes, I know this complaints are a bit of a moot point because I can still buy the road plates thanks to eBay, Bricklink & the like... -

That’s fair. They certainly are a bit limited. I never did like the curve plates because they couldn’t properly be tiled- I’m not a fan of the jagged edge like some do. I will push back on adding tracks though, that’s easy enough to do. I’ve seen a lot of creative ideas. I don’t know of any collectors who are sitting on unopened street plates or who covet them for their future value. I, along with the few other town layout guys I’ve talked to about this, aren’t fans at all because we all have a lot of Modulars that are built on baseplates, and this new system royally screws that up. Now, seeing the catalog page with the City sets integrated with the system, it makes sense. But it still doesn’t make losing the baseplates that only work with Modulars any easier. -
It really is a shame, understandable though, from a target audience perspective. We would absolutely buy these books if it came with only House students that go with the book. I’d actually prefer non named characters over repeats(while of course some new names characters would be best). For securing minifigs to sidewalks, I go with 2x2 jumpers.

What’s not detailed about current roads that this new system has? -
It’s too early to be bummed out by the minifgs, as they’re not finalized yet. Either way though, more house sweaters for Hufflepuff & Ravenclaw. It appears to be sand blue. Being the Ravenclaw book, it has to be a blue book.

Man...those roadplates are awful. Not even a great price could save them. The connector plates stick out like a sore thumb(could be the renders though). I’ve seen plenty of brick built roads, but they were seamless...not whatever is happening in that catalog. -
I’m more excited now than I was when we originally heard. The finer details & minifigs will kinda be the make or break moment for me on how excited I will be to get them. What I can see they’re a lot more substantial than I thought they were. I don’t see how that can be Cho...they’ve made it clear she’s to be done how she is. Either way, if that turns out to be a correct Cho, that just means we have another “random” Hogwarts student.

Love this. This was my favorite moment of that movie. I can hear the music as I look at this, you really captured the scene well. The radio section there is fun.

That looks excellent! It’s instantly recognizable, didn’t even need to tell us who it was.

I’m not much of a DIY builder, but the closest I’ve seen is the window in 10255 Assembly Square. That garage piece is used on its side to create a storefront window. Maybe that could be a place a start for figuring out a door.

It would be a huge pain for people like myself with towns. I’d have to buy a crap ton of plates to replace all the 32x32 baseplate I have in my layout, which is 42 of them. That would be expensive, and a huge waste. It would completely ruin the Modulars. Even if they started next years on plates, that still leaves me having to waste a ton of money on buying plates for the old Modulars, of which I have all, or also buying a baseplate every year I buy the Modular. -
Yeah, I was kinda happy to see it as is. I would say the submitted model would’ve been around $200, so for a bit more one could buy two & have a more substantial building. This went from an easy pass to on the possibly list.

This sounds like a likely layout. Considering we got Scribbulus though, anything is possible. For selfish reasons, as far as funds go, I’d like to see a smaller DA set this go round. So Gringotts, Leaky Cauldron & Eeylops sounds perfect to me. How would they market B&B connecting though? Ideally you’d attach it to the Technic pin that is outside Wheezes...but attaching a set that would block half of the adjoining building seems odd. Attaching them fully back to back, sure, that closes off the interiors.

I didn’t have a problem with the WV set, and my eyesight is nothing to brag about. I could imagine it being a pain with dark grey pieces though. And weirdly, the set is now available. Must’ve put those robots on overdrive...

It’s made even a bit weirder when you look at the stag we got just last year. We’ve seen it used twice, in very different types.

Well, it changed to Backorders accepted, will ship in 60 days.” Looks like it may not be available.

A favorite part of mine is the 1x1 pyramid piece. I have no idea why, I just find it neat. Before the second hand store closed down whenever I would find any of them, it was a good day. I probably found 20 of them, pearl silver & gold & trans light blue.

Has the LEGO group released too much 18+ sets this year?
Vindicare replied to JintaiZ's topic in General LEGO Discussion
D’oh...forgot to specify the instructions. Having them all be one or the other makes sense, but some & not others seems strange. As to the boxes though, I don’t mind them. I don’t keep boxes either, so that sways me a bit. Of course I enjoy looking at the box art, but once I give it a few looks I’m done with it. I did think the HS was a bit...muddy...when comparing it to other LEGO boxes. It didn’t really work for me. I haven’t given much a look at the Ninjago ones besides some glimpses & they look fine. The black boxes seem appropriate to me for an adult targeted toy. As your examples show & some other high end action figures have similar boxes.
