    Nice, I'll be keeping a close eye on your progress. I have a %70 complete 8880 on my hands and I'm trying to gather the missing pieces. After that, I'll start the restoration like you did. What did you use to whiten the rims? I read on a number of sources that %3 hydrogen peroxide with sunlight exposure works very well, but haven't tried it yet.

    Hi everyone, here is my reverse-engineered 42046. I spent ~3 hours on it, mostly working on LDD. It was a fun little challenge for me. I left the rear part mostly unfinished since I couldn't find any picture that shows even a hint of it. I also couldn't quite figure out the section where the angled connectors on the side connect to the chassis, so I did what looked like the closest position. But I'm pretty sure there isn't a lbg 1/2 bush there in the real version.. The doors are connected at only one point, so I think there might be something below that holds them in place. Also the two 3l lbg axles on the roof need to be replaced with this part, but it does not exist in LDD yet. I think the same part should be used for the hood scoop connection because using a 3l axle there makes it also a bit wobbly. And here is the lxf file if anyone is interested. In my opinion, the stickers & the orange rims make the car look much more interesting than my full black/dbg version, but I do not have any orange rims unfortunately.

    Well, I built the 42046 Getaway Racer last night and I believe I got most of it right except the rear and one other section. I'll post pictures tonight. Display Team Jet looks easier because it's smaller, and also bright colored so figuring out details from the pictures is easier. I'll give it a shot tonight. I feel bad for you Sariel. You can't feel the excitement of buying a set from the store and driving home, filled with anticipation of the awaiting build experience. Now if you'll excuse me, I'll go cry in a corner about a totally unrelated subject.

    Wait, is it imperial cubic studs or metric cubic studs? Jokes aside, I really like the cubic stud limit, it's much better than piece count since piece count is much harder to verify even during building without a digital model. I also like the pullback idea a lot, I've been wanting to do something with the pullbacks. Since I'm close to finishing&publishing my new MOC, I might join the new competitions.

    Are those inline pin connectors at the sides of the engine silver? Also, are the rear side panels also the new 5/3 panels? They seem like it on the side thumbnail on the box. That means we are getting 7 of them.

    I think both of them look superb! Gonna get them both. Even though arocs is more functional, crane looks much more beautiful to me with blue color scheme. Plane looks real good too Aside from that, is the new-sliding-gear-rack-thingy on the extension part of the crane arm also used in the outriggers?

    Progress seems to be going nicely. I like this project, it is an interesting vehicle. Can't wait to see it finished!

    The roof-to-rear-pillars remind me of Ferrari 599 (a very exaggerated version). I think I like it. It is a modern supercar and looks good, but it shouldn't be named GT in my opinion. Now it feels like they are trying to milk the legend. As for the MOC, I believe you'll nail it! Can't wait to see your interpretation.

    The limit can be practically infinite. Fill as many axles as you want with worm gears, and join these axles with inline axle joiners. This will be the powered shaft on the ground. On the carriage couterpart, use 1x4 gear rack. This way, on the connection parts of the shaft, one stud of the 1x4 gear rack will be on one axle, two studs will be on inline axle joiner and one stud will be on the next axle. You can use more 1x4 gear racks to be safer. Plus, you can use bushes (or angled connectors as stabilizers for the shaft) between worm gears and reduce the number of worm gears used.

    42027 & 31022 were also one of the first sets I bought :) As a person who went through the phase you're going through now ~6 months ago, I'd go with the monster truck. It has a more consistent color scheme, and if you want to extend your part collection in the future to build something bigger, red pieces are much more abundant in technic than the blue ones in the hot rod, therefore it would be easier to achieve color consistency. I also think it has a nicer selection of parts (frames, torque balls, shock absorbers etc.). It is a bit weaker than 42022 gearwise (less number & types of gears)

    I'm also working on the same thing. I have one question to the more experienced builders though, what gear reduction would you recommend for two XL motors? Also for two L motors? Sariel's video seems to use 1:3 for two L motors, so I am guessing around 1:2 for two xl motors would yield somewhat similar speed with higher torque, am I right?
