  1. DARNIT. It's supposed to be Phase 2. That's the second time I've screwed that up by editing the autofill instead of just retyping it. :( Phase 2 is supposed to be training ground, which this is. Thanks for pointing it out. That and about LordDan's warhammer. It's a cool technique!
  2. AoM Barracks Phase 2: Shield Wall / McCoyed / Mitgardia
  3. Age of Mitgardia Barracks Phase 2: Shield Wall!
  4. We rejoin Alva Tyrnsdottir sometime after the axe-throwing tournament and sometime after her father began training her in the Arnarvhall style of axe and dagger close-quarters combat. An Arnarvhalling shield maiden must master many martial skills, however, including the traditional Shield Wall employed by viking parties. Training on the sand in full battle dress promotes the strength and coordination necessary for real combat. Though the weapons are blunted, no one enjoys getting hit by them. Tyrn, Alva's own father, acts as the commander of the Red Team. Their goal is to protect him from the Blue Team and vice versa. If either should break through, its commander is exposed and the victory is won for the other side. The commander of the Blue Team is Mad Marrgin, known in Arnarvhall for both his experience with the Shield Wall and his penchant for unorthodox tactics. Finally got around to my latest GoH build! I'm very proud of the water here and hope it looks as good to you guys as it does to me. I also like this Runestone better than the one I put in my Archery Phase 3. I notice now that I'm missing an obvious Mitgardian standard/flag. I hope all the green sleeves and yellow hands/faces are enough! Anyway, credit goes to someone else for the warhammer design. I only wish I could remember who's build it was where we talked about it. Same goes for the Runestone really! I should start making a list of stuff I see and then put in builds but sometimes there's a serious time lag and I forget. :( So please take credit if you see something familiar! Oh and Phase 1 here.
  5. The tower should have less patterning in the walls of it. Like, some use of dark bley masonry bricks and light bley cylinders would have broken the uniformity. That said, it's damn inspired to use the Halls of Dead figs this way. I had thought about it before but I only have the 3 that came with the Pirate Ship Ambush and, well, I'm Mitgardian. :P
  6. Gorgeous. One of your best yet, ME. I think you're setting the bar extremely high as a GoH storyteller and that's awesome. More of us are going to have to come after ya!
  7. Oh hell yeah!
  8. You could make it even more specifically GoH! Speaking of which we should do another GoH CMF mockup.
  9. Not sure I understand what this has to do with GoH but nice MOC and cool idea for one!
  10. Pretty sure GoH started with castle MOCs in the Historic theme and had to really grow before it got its own forum. I also think that having EB mods/admins involved with MOCing helps a theme's chance of getting its own MOCiverse subforum. Maybe some people who've been on EB longer than I have (only been here since April) can weigh in on how stuff like Pirate MOCs, GoH, SoNE, etc got started on EB. I know there are Scifi and Pirates MOCiverses in some form of development but they are being done by small groups (Pirates) or individuals (Scifi) in a closed, private manner which I'm not personally in favor of. That could be because I'm used to play FATE (tabeltop RPG) where stories and worlds are created collaboratively all the way through.
  11. If you're asking me I'd say no. I mean, why have that and not a crossbow or ballista or more setting-appropriate ranged weapon? A pneumatic bolt weapon is just a gun by another function. Being that it's still a Lego gun, right? If GoH were totally mine and all the lore/precedents were up to me I think I'd allow early firearms but I'm pretty sure any builds or stories involving such will be face objections by the rest of the community here. I think it's best for you guys to just accept that and save guns and (most) gadgets for a different setting or your own personal, non-GoH mocs (you could do that, I do!). Honestly, if I were either of you and I wanted to throw some new magical or low-tech thing into this setting, I'd just build it and take special care that it's justified somehow. I mean, first I'd ask myself why having bolt throwers, guns, etc is so important to me in the first place. Barring that, you could start your own Steampunk setting on a forum outside of EB and try to recruit people. I'd join it because I like to dabble in many different genres and flavors. I've definitely thought about lots of different flavors and settings that could be made along the same lines. I think that's pretty much what you'd have to do to see those ideas represented in a project like GoH. That's a lot of work with no guarantee of enough interest to keep it going, which is why the Mods of EB don't bother or are very slow to introduce new projects like that in the different themed subforums.
  12. If you're basing it off gnomes from WoW, you'd definitely have to undercut some of the higher tech gadgetry (mechs and things). For making the minifigs, I'd just use clean-shaven adult heads on "short figs" and try to do a lot of crazy hair. The mad scientist hair from Monster Fighters comes to mind, that gray spiky rubbery thing?
  13. It would be cool to see some builds showing gnomes and their slightly higher tech, but elusive world. I mean, it's a good way to establish a little bit of that in GoH but keep it contained by establishing the gnomes as secretive and protective over their gadgets and technology. Until someone builds it (and builds it right), though, I dunno how well that'll go over haha.
  14. Yessir. Not sure how big I'd make it. I plan to try and keep these builds smallish but who knows. By the time I get to Book 7's climax...
  15. I have an outline but I'll take suggestions! 5 builds per book.
  16. That explains it! I thought it was another Guilds of Historica style project. Thanks for the info!
  17. Yeah. For dwarven technology, think more gears, levers, pulleys, and basic mechanical engineering. A good touchstone would be the dwarves in The Hobbit (movies) and what we see of Erebor in its heydey. Steam is probably out as a mainstream technology (certainly in the magical steampunk sense).
  18. This is a beautiful piece of work. Can't wait to see how you develop it with Phase 2. I really like the way the wood is built on the rocks, it looks clean and realistic at the same time.
  19. Maybe we should take this opportunity to throw up some builds, variations, and ideas of our own in this thread.
  20. But... how does the eye collector get the eyes?
  21. It would be in the sense that Historica is really one kingdom separated into provinces. If it's drow-hunting dwarves vs. ? for sides, I would be more worried that it's too redundant after Avalonia's civil war. I'd actually like to see the stakes raised since the two sides of this conflict are, naturally, the Avalonian elves trying to keep the dwarves from encroaching on their territory vs. the dwarves who are trying to expand and deal with the drow problem on their own. But it should really be two Mitgardian factions at odds, like two factions of dwarves (which would be awesome).
  22. Best Lego sand dunes I've ever seen. Full stop.
