Book II - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
mccoyed replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
MOCing, commenting, flying the Mitgardia flag, and trying to incorporate criticism and suggestions in new builds... I think that's how I got my tag! I'm still really new myself so I'd say just concentrate on that stuff, especially in trying to get better with every single build. -
I may get around to the supplementary stuff after I finish the builds for the 7 books. That is a daunting enough task for now haha. And yeah, you're on the money for Build 5, the next and last one for The Gunslinger. Lastly, my daughter has lots of Friends Lego... I appreciate the compliment but I didn't do SNOT on the horse. I just used a Brick Forge backpack held in place with a 1x2 smooth plate! Thanks all the same. I will definitely see this through!

Age of Mitgardia - Archery Phase 2 - An Unexpected Tutor
mccoyed replied to mccoyed's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks! Hopefully you've seen Phase 3 by now. I can't remember if you commented! Alva's story will continue soon beyond Archery Phase 3 as well! Thanks Be! Thanks Gideon. They're my favorite parts too!- 22 replies

Crap, look at all that stuff. Awesome work all around. You have a complete world unto yourself here.
-
Oh I didn't mean to imply you weren't acting above board. I just thought it might be unfair to claim opportunities to win prizes in two places with the same build. If no one minds, then why should I? :P
-
That's kind of cool. Like rusty abandoned chains left where they fell off!
-
Don't overreact or anything.
-
And everybody knew it was also posted here for a challenge? With the prize potential and so on, this doesn't seem unfair to you?
-
Yeah. We'd all do different things. My example was just to show the difference between representing GoH as a whole and representing just oneself.

AoM - Farm Phase ll - Trouble with the farm
mccoyed replied to Alfadas's topic in Guilds of Historica
Alf, I think it's just a comparative thing. There's been several AoM farms and your Phase 2 looks more like their Phase 1's is all. It should be bigger and there should be farming going on, it seems like. Your counter-argument is sound, and I especially appreciate that the AoM guidelines have room for interpretation.- 14 replies

Sorry buddy, but criticism usually doesn't come fluffy. :P Anyway, it's not about a popularity contest. It's just you're very new and haven't really built anything yourself yet. I think there are members of GoH, and I do not include myself by the way, who are better as representative "faces" for the forum. I'm way too new myself, you know, so this isn't a bid to put me in there. I'd prefer guild leaders, honestly. Either that or just use anonymous GoH-figs. I would do 4, one to represent each guild and they don't have to be sigfigs if you don't like that idea. Also, who said you weren't taking it seriously? Why the background doesn't work isn't as important as the fact that it doesn't. You gotta use whatever tools you have and know how to use. I was just telling you what doesn't work, from my perspective.

Yup, you've mentioned Soul Gems before. If you want to have a downside, I'd say that you should go straight into Necromancy with it and thus give it that very eeeevil moral shading that Necromancy usually has. So due to the immorality of using this technique, maybe your faction is hated and hunted? But also, in TES, Soul Gems run out of "charge" eventually so there's that too. I'd stay away from being too detailed or systematized with it. Keep it loose so others can build on it and so that it doesn't violate any GoH precedents. If there's suddenly magically charged gems everywhere that can be used to make powerful magical weapons, it would destabilize the world.

I'm totally new to LoR and thought I had read this. Maybe the disposition is different in GoH too, where no one seems to mind? If it's no big deal, I may cross-post my own stuff.
-
I'm sorry to say I never liked the "random chains" technique because they look like what they are: chains. I think to myself "why are all these chains laying around?". But because your aethestics and tastes are so unique, Gun, I think it works in your builds but may not be a very transplantable technique. But that's just, like, my opinion man. :P

Some of these guys may not know Elder Scrolls and Dwemer. If I were you, I'd be more generic and have "crystals" that store "magical energy" which can be used to power your faction's "magical machines". Even then, though, you're likely to get the same objections if you don't acknowledge what people are telling you about GoH precedents.

Awesome. This one is all about that angled wall. It frames the scene nicely and stands apart from the normal and natural tendency to do square/rectangular shaped stuff.

I have to say that this won't work. Not sure how serious you are with this entry, but here's why I say this: 1. It only features your sigfig. I think you could be a bit more representative of GoH as a whole, especially top contributors who've built MOCs. I'd do one big infamous GoH build (pick your favorite) from Book 1 or 2 and then throw in some recognizable faces. 2. The text doesn't work well with the background, which is very Nocty, so this could work better as Nocturnus banner, and is difficult to read. If you wanna use this as a personal banner, and you should because it's good if not good for GoH, you should take out all the little black specks where the text is. That's my $0.02 anyways.

The Final Defense [Free Build - Noctornus]
mccoyed replied to ch_ris127's topic in Guilds of Historica
Awesome build. Love the tree, will have to try that technique. I also have to admire your figs. I pride myself on creating interesting figs (especially my pirate crew, if I do say so myself) and love to see CHIMA in GoH builds. That said, isn't Furty a lady?! -
AoM - Farm Phase ll - Trouble with the farm

Yeah, good as a freebuild but needs more Farm.- 14 replies

This is just awesome. I like the green too as it stands out and draws the eye. I also like the consistency of the architecture from place to place.
-
I thought cross-posting was generally frowned upon, even as free builds? Either way, very nice build. I love the cargo camels and clean landscaping. You're one of the masters of desert scenes, Gideon!

In awe of this. Someday, when I attempt a big ol castle/tower build I'm going to be studying your stuff Z. I will study it studiously.
