  1. Wonderful work deGothia, this is a lovely build with a lot of details to enjoy. The tree, landscaping and castle structures are wonderfully done (I'm definitely impressed with the crenelations in the curved wall). Always cool to see other people's characters in builds. I love some of the photos you took, you caught some great angles that really give this build a lot of depth. Great work as always!
  2. A wonderful build, I've been looking forward to this since first seeing your WIP photos! The purple roof is a really nice touch, as are those elegant looking whips. They work great for your purpose! Definitely some interesting techniques here to enjoy and study! Great work jaapxaap!
  3. Great little build Bregir, I like how the halfwall is just tall enough for the Leander to stand unseen. A very lively scene, good work! I think mrcp6d had a good idea with some yellow lighting to give it that warm, candle-lit feel to it.
  4. Another lovely entrance, again the sand green highlights really work here. The statue alcoves look quite elegant. Very cool how you incorporated these same dwarves into your other entry. That's something I didn't think of until I had already posted Part B! Anyways, stunning photography again! Looks like you've mastered your new set up - which is more credit to your inherent skill than what the camera is capable of!
  5. Fantastic build with a lovely dark feel to it. The sand green highlights and the cut-out view of the tunnel are great touches, as is that off-kilter coffin lid. The photography looks as stunning as ever to me, as smooth as butter! I've never thought of using flash to help light my builds. I tend to go with an awkward array of umbrellas and other bounced light, but this definitely gives me something to think about!
  6. A great series here, definitely a lot to enjoy! The dwarves look great (that warhammer is awesome!) as do those ruins. The broken white pillars and the cracked circular floor are nicely down. The story is quite suspenseful too! Awesome entry MKJosh!
  7. Great work Matthew, a very elegant entry! I really enjoy the off-angle placement of the wall and statue. Neat idea too using the cheese slopes to give the statue a "battle ready" stance. Lovely shrubs as well. Great work!
  8. Beautiful build as always Emma, glad to see another entry from Nocturnus too! The rockwork and waterfall are executed wonderfully. The way the dwarven faces were sculpted into the rock is brilliant. Truly a gorgeous build, and my favorite entry in this category so far!
  9. Nice build and first entry in GoH! I love the vegetation and how the build is split into two tiers. The forced perspective looks great too!
  10. Thoughtful is really the word that comes to mind when viewing this build and story. Such wonderful and elegantly-expressed lore... The internal tensions behind the character's view of his ancestors and their traditions really speaks, to me at least, of some of the failings and trappings of modern Western civilization. Anyways... the build looks gorgeous too. Some lovely landscaping here. The statue is also well done, looks as if it was cut from the type of sandstone I presume is common in Kaliphlin. I like how you stuck to the overall minifig look when you built this statue. Overall, top notch entry Sarah!
  11. Ohhh, I've been waiting for this story, and you do not disappoint! So clever and elegantly done, the first scene with the decaying wake left by LM (in that snazzy white suit!) and the dying flowers is just plain brilliant. The crypt is very well done, the photography gives it a nice, creepy look. This is first-class combination of build and story, and we haven't even seen the second part yet! Can't wait to see it hit the forums!
  12. Wow great entry Evan, love the humor and idea here! I wondered why dwarves have such hard heads! I'm really liking those interior scenes, and like others mentioned, brilliant work on that tent. The fifth picture in particular is a great shot of the tent, looks like a really evil face. The whole Drow camp looks really forbidding. The wargame-scale castle in the first build is great too. Over all, another great build from you and a lot of details to enjoy, including the story. Awesome entry sir!
  13. Good question! Is the deadline just midnight in our respective timezones? Can I travel eastwards to gain a couple more building hours? Here's my Cat. B, Men's side entry: Go No Further
  14. The dwarves had travelled for days to find the old Avalonian trail. Perched high above a raging river, the trail proved to be as treacherous as the elders had warned. Several dwarves, encumbered in heavy armor and laden with weapons for the march into Avalonia, fell to their doom in the ravine below. But the dwarven war party had no other options. Despite the dwarves' efforts at keeping their invasion plans a secret, the elves had systematically flooded and caved-in every tunnel leading to Avalonia. The mountain trail was the last way into the elven lands from Mitgardia, barring a full-blown invasion through the plains connecting the two lands. Treason and betrayal were on the lips of every dwarven soldier as they slogged along the perilous trail. How had the elves - and their Drow allies - discovered the dwarven war plans? The minds of most in the war party were on these matters when they heard a call from the path ahead. Several elven archers appeared from among the boulders and trees. Another, clad in ornate battlemage armor, strode forward to address the dwarves. "My dwarven brethren, your tunnels are flooded, your plans laid bare... Why do you continue with your aggression against our lands? Your ancestors strove to build the good relations which have allowed Mitgardia and Avalonia to prosper together. Now you seek to undue this?" The dwarves, surprised at the suddenness of the elves' appearance, chatted among themselves for a moment, eyeing suspiciously the elves ahead. The party's commander stepped forward, unsheathing his sword as he approached. "Elves, our fight is not with you unless you continue to stand in our way. Now move aside, and we will cleanse your lands of the Drow scourge which you have been unable to contain." The elven battlemage did not move. "You expect us to stand aside as you invade our lands and lay waste to what the Drow have not already destroyed? We appreciate your willingness to fight, but we will not let you into Avalonia as long as you come outfitted for war. Lay down your arms, and we will invite you into our homes and offer your our utmost hospitality." The elf's words soothed the fiery spirit of some of the younger dwarves in the war party. The decision to invade Avalonia was a mystery to them - why should dwarves lose their lives in Avalonia when Mitgardia faces its own troubles? But the elder dwarves in the war party did not share these worries. "You would stop us from destroying the Drow? So there is no doubt - your people have chosen to share council with the Drow. Move aside now or you will be treated as we treat all our enemies." Again the elves did not move. "You speak nonsense, we have lost many in our fight against the Drow. But will not tolerate any hostile, foreign army entering out lands. Dwarf-chieftain, you shall go no further." The dwarf laughed and began to advance. "It will take more than a few elves to stop our mission. I have several companies on this path, so I hope you came prepared for a fight!" The dwarven soldiers had barely taken a step forward when a sharp crack rang through the air, as if lightening had struck the mountainside. The cliff quaked, and began to disintegrate in front of the dwarves' eyes. Boulders and trees slid into the river below. An impassable crevice formed along the path, the result of powerful magic cast by the elven battlemage. Thrown off his feat, the dwarf chieftain looked back to see his soldiers fleeing from the collapsing mountainside. He picked himself up and joined them in their retreat, not before shouting a few curses upon the elves. He could hear the battlemage's reply above the rumbling landslide. "I hope your leaders will seek wiser council! The elves do not wish for bloodshed, not on our side nor yours. If you wish to continue this aggression, your options are few. There is but one way left into Avalonia and here the full might of Avalonia will be arrayed!" -------------------------------------- A pic of the full MOC and another angle of the rockslide: -------------------------------------- Greetings! Finally got this Ch. III build done for Cat. B on the men's side. I wasn't particularly happy with the way the exploding mountainside turned out - I kept waiting for it all to come together in the end, but it didn't quite get there! This build had several reincarnations but didn't quite get what I originally had in mind. I feel like, with some more time, I could really make this one pop, but the holidays and life in general got the better of me. I've got my Cat. C builds in the works, but despite setting aside today for nothing but building, I don't think I'll have them done and photographed in time. They'll make a great post-challenge freebuild though! Anyways, thanks for looking and feedback is always welcomed!
  15. Great scene, I love the rafters and cozy feel of this build. Good angle on the story too, and that mounted head is superb!
  16. Eerily beautiful... excellent work again Captain Flint! Besides that striking inn, the landscaping and trees are wonderfully done. Love the darkness of this build, especially the color choice for the landscape. Another top-notch Nocturnus build!
  17. Haha, very interesting build here. Great work on the ice cap and the underwater plants, the way they're bending with the current is a great touch. A very unique and creative entry!
  18. A great and cleverly done build Josh! Between the rutted road, those nice-looking cut trees and the snotted landscape, it's obvious you put a lot of thought into this awesome built. Great entry!
  19. Thanks gentlemen, hope to have the others up here soon!
  20. Good work Brick Curve, you seem to be developing a really unique and neat style for Kali! I like the liveliness of the scene as well as all the difference in terrain, like how the tower is set up on a bit of a hill. The tower looks good too, and the colors seem to work well to me. I think the river has a bit too much pattern though - I would suggest breaking up those really straight banks and going a little more random with the river's color pattern. The way the trans-clear 1x1 rounds are placed doesn't seem very natural. In a real river, the whitewater (represented with trans-clear rounds) would form more around rocks in the river and along the banks. And since rivers generally go downhill, you might think about giving the river some differing elevation. I wonder too if you may be overusing your photo editing software to unsharp mask or smart sharpen your photos. Those tools are great in moderation, but using them too much really exacerbates the "noise" in the edited photos, which in turn makes the photos somewhat hard to look at. If you're having trouble getting sharp photos, you might consider using a tripod and setting your camera's aperture as high as possible (f18, f22, etc.). A little extra work on the front end can really enhance the final photo quality. Anyways, I only say all this because you are making a great contribution here and I always look forward to your next build. With a little time I know you'll be cranking out some really top-notch Kali builds!
  21. Cool little scene, some great details to appreciate here like the foamy beer, that lovely wood flooring and the sneaky eavesdropping elves!
  22. I'm know for a fact that you are much more inspirational than you give yourself credit for! You're one of my favorite builders in GoH, anyways! Thanks SK, glad you liked it! Thanks Carson!
  23. I'm always a big fan of your landscaping and trees, and this is certainly no exception. The photography does a great job of conveying a solitary atmosphere. Also, lovely color usage. All in all, another top notch build from you!
  24. Great build and lovely photography, this build really shines! Such a clever build, with the nearby flowers, those great hives and the fig posing. The guy putting the lid on the honey jar is a great touch. I'm guessing the girl on the right is not overly fond of snakes either?
  25. Some lovely architecture here, especially that rather sinister looking round tower (would be perfect for Nocturnus, if it was black!). The interior scenes are great too. Excellent work!
