  1. I'm not saying that this wouldn't work and I'd probably buy it anyway for western parts. But... as much as I'm a fan of steampunk, and You're right that TLG did a lot of Fantasy/Sci-Fi/Weird stuff recently or in the past, I'm a kind of a conservatist I really prefered Lego when it used to be simple and fairytellish, it gave much more creativity this way. All those new Ninjago and Chims things, those should be made by Hasbro or Playmates, or even Playmobil You know. I think that there's a border they shouldn't have crossed with Lego. They did, a long time a go. But, there's always a chance to return. And another thing. I'd prefer them to make theme that would run for years if not decades. I know that things and fashions change, but it's kind of unfair they way they keep releasing new franchises and close them after just one or two years - like they did with LR for example. A kid should have a chance to collect same theme for a couple of years, to collect wisely. With steampunkish Western, I don't really think that it would last long. I can imagine that they would release a bunch of nice sets, but not a whole army of them And with a "ghost town". I was rather thinking about a simple deserted town, not real ghosts, or zombies, or any creatures at all And I wouldn't say that Constitution's gatling is steampunkish. Well, the gun is pretty big, and might look a bit out of the place, but it's just an artistic/historical license
  2. So, as usual during christmas time i like to to some adventure movie marathons, or pirate movie marathons. And as there's not really many of them, and many good, still a lot of them bring a nice classic feel, produce some originality in script, heroes, action, etc. And, I know it's not very possible, but IF TLG was about to make new pirate like theme based on movies other than POTC what movie/movies would You choose and why? What characters do You think would work well as Lego minifuigures and what scenes would You like to be remade into sets, like the way they did POTC scenes and so we can replay them now. Who's first? If it was for me I'd go for my all time favorites - Polanski Pirates - great characters! Cpt. Red is like a must have And of course those great spanish officers, not to mention galleon and a raft of course. And to tell the truth I believe that this on may have even been a huge inspiration for classic Lego Pirates. Second one - Cuttroat Island. Of course the word "cuttroat" would have to be kicked out, as it sound rarther unsuitable for kids. Still, we had some fine characters - Morgan, a feriocious female pirate. Doug, the bad guy, would look definitely bad as a figure. He's never wearing a hat, and lacks a nice haircut, so bald Lego minifigure wouldn't work. On the other hand we had fantastic british characters - lon haired kpt Trotter and governor Ainslie with his wig and powdered face. It's a definite must have! Same with Snelgrave - Doug's henchman. Also we had some fine scenes that could work as sets - like a stagecoach chase scene and a battle in the bucaneer town. and finally Crimson Pirate. Probably the only pirate movie that everyone here has seen and loved. Lot's of fun ideas, although there's a bit of punkish style here - a submarine, a baloon - those are rather uncommon for a pirate movie. Still, could work some sets out of this one. On the other hand - I don't think that Burt would look well as a minifigure. He's ust.. to well shaved
  3. Wow, this one actually looks much better than the one used in LR! Seriously, for me it's more accurate and a lot more original in build. I didn't really like that they've used that grey barrel making as part of a gun. It seemed to be rather "cheap". Of course, it still looks like a nice gun, but... guys... amateurs could use a barrel, not profesionals And i have to agree about the belt. It's unnecessary here. And i didn't realize that You've used rubber bands at the first moment. I guess that colors can do the trick Still, there probably wasn't anything else to use right?
  4. Great stuff, and the purpose is even better So, are going to keep this after Your wedding, so it could remind both of You of this special moment? And btw, which one is You and which one is wife? I'm pretty sure You're a geisha and wife wears that nice samurai outfit right
  5. Wow, there's a scar on his head right? Did You make that up or was this face used somewhere already?
  6. There was a theme about time travellers, pretty cool and convincing for me, as it wasnt that extreme, and it could serve both City and history-based themes. But i wouldn'r rally go with steampunk. It's a little bit to harcore for me. Steampunk would be fun for other toy franchises. For me Lego has been always a type of a fairytale. And i'm rather unpleasantly shocked that they've dediced to make those Movie sets. Seriously, i don't know, perhaps that ship looked great in a movie, or it can provide a lot of fine parts to build from, but other than that, i can't find a reason to produce such toy, looks ugly and was probably pretty expensive as well.
  7. Hi So Lone Ranger theme is already gone, for some sadly for some people not. Still, everyone interested has to notice that LR sets were very first Legos set in Widl West since... well... a rather long time... 1997 my loyal imaginary servant tells me, so, there You have it So let's discuss what this theme, both classic 1996-97 Wild West and 2013 Lone Ranger gave us, what great ideas we could find within them and what were/are the possibilities of expansion, of sets, of factions, of major gimmicks could new sets introduce. Well, basically, what would we like to see and play with if TLG was about to release a new Western-based line. So far we have a fort, a mine, indian village, a bit of a city, a covered wagon, LR brought a train ( finally! ) and a stagecoach ( finally! ). So I gues a train station would be a nice addition, well any kind of railway sets. Perhaps a river steam boat. I'd say that should consider splitting indians into TWO factions. It's clear that indiands from classic Wild West sets were somewhat neutral, or simply good guys, apparently there wasn't a single set that would include both Soldiers and Natives! I guess we all know the reason behind this decision. Still, they could get more from Indians by splitting them into traditional GOOD indian faction and... tada!... BAD indian faction, full time bad megablocks, scalphunters. On the other hand, Western doesn't produce as many set opportunities as Pirates and Castle did. It simply can't offer so many types of fortresses, ships, boats etc. Still, deserted "ghost" cities would be a good idea, some hideouts, lumberjacks, trappers, goldminers, caravans with settlers, a donkey/mule would be a great addition to Lego animals, not mentioning a bison of course! ( they did a prototype i've heard! ) Mexicans in their somberos and corrupted army could a nice addition. Perhaps the whole team could expand even farther, to mix a bit of colonial xix century feeling into it - Adventurers kind of thing, only set a little bit earlier, and without cars. Some great fictional sets can be found here: http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=15788 http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=18994
  8. Ah ok. Ruler sounds much easier Still, it could work with some of the sets, not all the sets. As i said, rules could change a bit from time to time, to make the whole thing more diversified Height limit woudl be rather hard to conform, well because of the masts mostly. Buildind an extra tall tower or castle is one thing, but it's somewhat justified that mast are considerably tall. And attaching them to an island, or a ship would make them even taller, so
  9. I'm afraid plates would be harder to get for a lot of people than minifigures. It's not that these are not available, it's just that most of us focus on getting figures or certain sets, plates usually come at the very end of one's wishlist ;) Other thing is that if we make this plate rule the same plate will be probably used more than once. And we don't really want that. We won't diversified sets, minifigures or certain bricks, parrots, sharks, can happen more often of course, but i don't want to but two sets with the same kind of plate. Also, a lot of novadays sets don't really use plates, and still offer a lot of fun, like this one: So i woudln't bother. Rules could be more specified in the matter of a subject, like "create a ship vs an island fortress set"... making too many technical rules would kill the whole thing, enrage amateurs :)
  10. so we have to votes for max bricks rule i'm not much of a fan of being too strict, still, if this works we could think of some margins, i guess that it's possible to check what number of bricks those classic and new sets usually have, some of our members are probably already experienced in this matter still, a lot of people will never count the numer of bricks used, this would take a lot of focus from having fun, would require to check things, do some rebuilds and stuff... I am just concerned that it woudln't work well with someones need for freedom and creativity still, as said, i guess that a lot of us are rather experienced in this matter and could guess the number of bricks just by looking at a certain set another things - bricks DIFFER, ones are twice or ten times bigger than other ones and so there wil be always questions like, if one should consider a shark to be 1 brick or 2 bricks, same with a monkey - is it 1 brick or 5 bricks ( a body + 4 paws ) and so on... still, there could be a rule of how many figures and animals one could include within a certain set, like say "create a set with 4-5 minifigures, and 2-3 animals of Your choice" well, there's a lot of stuff to discuss... but someone has to start any other ideas?
  11. So who are these guys in dark blue uniforms? Did You make them out of minifigure patriots? Or was it a different chest?
  12. Thanks, thanks indeed the more of us support this idea here, the more chances we get to convince moderators and start the whole thing
  13. Hi everyone! I've sent this message to a lot of You, but since getting a reply takes a lof of time I'd like to share this with everyone in this topic. I'be also gratefull if our mods and admins could take this topic serious and let us discuss it, perhaps give their own suggestions, "legalize it", or make a poll or something so that we could all decide whether we'd like to have such contest or not. So me and a couple of guys were thinking about kicking some energy into everyones megablocks as it's a little bit boring here lately and had a disscusion about making a small & easy contest... There's no official Pirates contest at this time, no TOR no RvB from what I know, so i figured out we could think of someting. So... I dont know if we can start something unofficial here on Eurobricks, or do we need to have a clearance, but if so, well, here's what I'd like to do: The basic idea is to have a "build an unofficial pirates set" contest instead of traditional MOC/STORY constests. What I mean is - most of official contests created and run by Eurobricks are time thiefs. Like with comics - one have to think about dozens of things when preaparing them - script, bulding, composition, light, cropping, editing, etc etc So generally it takes a lot a lot of time and effort to make something for the first round, then second and so and so... one have to give a lot of energy and passion to create thing, when it's not that clear that he/she will get any attention, support, criticism, prizes... ( there's been a world that no prizes were given to last TOR winners, is it true? ) And of course, this contest takes a lot of time - time to get an idea, time to create, time to vote... etc etc With the type of a contest i'm proposing now we could go for a fast and easy and highly enjoyable tournament, where one would have to create simple "unnoficial sets" of his own pirate theme idea, week by week, starting with tiny sets, army packs, small boat, small island... and getting bigger and bigger with each round. Each round would consist of a couple of minirounds... where a contestant would have to propose his "unofficial set" covering a specific problem ( like a horse cart set, a chase scene set, a landing clash set, a battle at sea set etc ), showing his idea of factions, and developing his theme with every round and miniround. Making the contest this way would make it easy for everyone because everyone would have to create traditional uncomplicated sets and NOT MOCs. It would NOT require a lot of skill, the only requirement would be to have certain amount of bricks and minifigures needed to participate. At the same time the speed of contest - WEEK BY WEEK minirounds - would actually force people to speed up and focus on creating these small sets. Look - not everyone has a month and that much of patience and energy to build a highly complicated MOC or a lego story/comic. On the other hand - it's much easier for anyone to come back home after work and make a small carriage, or a group of soldiers, or a small fort, and then something bigger on the weekend. Also sets would get bigger with each round, so then additional days would be added. Here's how it could look: 1 round - "minimal" sets - week per miniround ( army pack, boat, horse carriage etc ), 2 round - small sets - week per miniround ( big carriage, war clash pack, element of the fort/base, bigger boat ), 3 round - medium sets 10 days per miniround ( even bigger carriage set, even bigger fort set, bigger island set, small ship set etc ), 4 round - large sets - 2 weeks per miniround ( larger ship, larger fort, larger island etc) 5 round - extra large sets - 3 weeks per miniround ( big ship, big trading post, big island fortress etc ) So all of the competitors would have to participate in certain minirounds - competing in building certain sets, getting more and more into it, and finally creating the Big One. Best sets and best project overall would be voted for, and the winning project or those similar could be combined and edited into a nice packaging and proposed directly to the Lego Company, or as a Lego Idea. This way it would be something new, attractive, and with a PURPOSE. So let's do something innovative, enjoyable and easy! Oh and about the prizes - most important thing. There'll be NONE guaranteed - but the jury and organizers could decide other way later - if they'll find something real that they could actually give :) The only prizes "guaranteed" would be having fun, WINNING, getting a special badge, and that the winning projects, or best sets combined would be digitally turned into packages and officialy proposed to Lego Company or Lego Idea, what may turn into something big and a real Lego theme in the future Well, in short words, i think it's a lot better way to build something for a contest and enjoy it, than spending weeks on designing that "official" Eurobricks Pirate subtheme were only moderators were actually able to make any real designing decisions. Ok. That's it. Thanks if You had enough patience and interest to go trough all of it. And tell me what You think if You'd be interested. Regards Mazin
  14. Can't moderators intervene to edit the original post and attach some pictures themselves? Other way it's simply useless to keep it here as there's really no value and as there's more topics such as this one the only thing they do is occupying some space that we're gonna need sooner or later. One can't discuss such topic since we don't really know what we're dealing with. Maybe they could urge those topic creators to check their stuff more often, or leave copies of once posted pictures in a permanent picture holder.
  15. Heh I'm the one on the left!! With a tricorne. I remember this from someone's RvB entry! Boy how I miss that damn Tor !! And never, I repeat never underestimate the monkey. It can be ruthless and cunning You know? This reminds me of my old comic: http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=76941 You can see a small preview right here
  16. Are You going to include a horse or something? I know it's not very piratish... more Western or Castle but we often MOCem into soldiers' sets, so...
  17. Is it possible for someone to upload some pictures again since this review is officialy INDEXED and it's rather sad that nobody cares about this topic?
  18. O common! I've been asking those damn salesmen for like two months, incase they would get some 2015 sets BEFORE 2015, just like You get a lot of stuff earlier than a date of release. And now it's april?? maybe they just wanted to say that it's STILL gonna be fresh and new in april. You know, cause in may it's gonna be already old, unpopular and not woth a penny.
  19. Agreed. That's pretty much what I said above.
  20. Then spend it on anything anyway or give them to maste You dont wanna loose anything that is available for free
  21. Nostalgia is always a big part, some people wouldn't change a thing! That's for sure But it's not what I mean. There're hundreds and thousands of things that need change and fresh approach, even within the toy industry, but there's no need to change something that still works well, just because there's a fashion to remodell and redesign everywhere. Observing trends is one thing, using them properly is another
  22. I can't agree with You about that, completely. Like I said before, Lego was always about simplicity. Both pistol and musket should RESEMBLE old classic guns, bring somewhat fairytale feel to that theme, it doesn't have to look exactly like a real pistol. Let's not turn Lego into Playmobile or G.I.Joe, where you can have much more detailed style.
  23. Eeee? So we'll really have to WAIT until march? No f... waaaaaaaaaaay Yeah, same with me man. And the funniest thing is that they used old ones for those preproduced boxes. Seriously, i still hope that it's just a small mistake or something, cause i can't find a reason behind this change. To say more, old bandana looked more acurate and detailed, this new one look more like a beanie
  24. Wow, wish i had a basement and a fire place What a way to have a lego-dedicated corner, reminds of my uncle's house were he had his galleons - both lego and a wooden one, presented on the top of a cabinet in his living room It's even a little bit too big comparing to Your fireplace. Would look even way better if You could get a bigger one, oval one perhaps, so You could make some artificial water aroung the ship Just watch out for dust
  25. There's no fuss about the absence of a monkey, we're just joking and having fun On the other hand, there's a fuss about whether the monkey should or should not be redesigned
