  2. Now there's an idea! TLG has a habit of "recycling" model ideas (to take advantage of newer elements and building techniques, and for kids who were too young when the previous versions were around), but never picked up on the Space Shuttle concept since that single specimen. It would be interesting to see what a modern Technic Shuttle would do and look like, and less interesting to see fans moaning about there being too many panels and not enough panels and proportions and too much complexity and too much simplicity and too many motorised functions and too few motorised functions and the rest of the usual stuff. [edit] There's this, which unfortunately fell short of the 10000 supporters to be considered.

I agree that TLG (unlike the copycats, I'm sure ) tests these model extensively for safety and therefore kids can be alone with this set, small spinning mass by itself doesn't mean it's safe: string trimmers, like their same implies, use strings such as made from nylon to cut grass; they're harmless when stopped, but hurtful when spinning.
  4. The WeDo/Batmobile motor is also a "dumb" motor; as far as I know, it's a PF M motor with different connection points and a PUp plug.
  5. The "hub" in the Osprey is just a battery box with two switches and two outputs. It doesn't have connectivity.

  11. Most likely it'll contain the same AA caddy as the Technic hub. And I hope so: just like people worry that app-controlled stuff will be useless in the future when the apps get discontinued, I worry that in the future any present rechargeable batteries will be discontinued. I'm glad my RCXs use AAs instead of proprietary rechargeables, otherwise I wouldn't be able to use them nowadays.
  12. Hmm, interesting. Those axleholes allow for a wired remote control scheme (provided we get cable extensions), like the buggy in the 8082.
  13. Indeed, with the four ports allowing for a decent number of motors and sensors, Pybricks appears to be a very good way to turn the Technic hub into a simplified (and cheaper) SPIKE.
  14. If you look at it more carefully, you'll see that the included hub has only two ports, therefore indicating the "dumb" battery box.
  15. The EV3 also has official support for Python.
  16. If a given controller works with generic gamepad tester apps, it should work with BC2.
  17. I wouldn't be surprised to see in the future third-party (or even official!) external chargers.
  18. What do you mean with "upshifting" and "downshifting"? Remember that in low gears the engine spins faster in relation to the wheels, and in high gears it spins slower.

He means that, instead of using a touch sensor to detect if a robot bumped into something or an arm reached the end of its range, the motor(s) involved can be checked if they're stalled (i.e. are unable to rotate). This saves on sensors, just like motors with embedded encoders saved on rotation sensors when transitioning from the RCX to the NXT. Exactly.
  20. SPIKE's 6 bidirectional ports may be an advantage or a disadvantage over EV3's 8 unidirectional ports, depending on usage. For example, you can use more motors if you don't need many sensors, or vice-versa.
