42112 Concrete Mixer Truck
AVCampos replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I don't know about large drum pieces, but the small ones from City concrete trucks were used in the 42052 as engine nacelles. If TLG goes to the expense of designing a new mould, they'll most likely try to make it in a way that's as easy to reuse as possible. (the Mack bulldog is an exception, maybe dictated by the terms of the contract with Mack) -

And to PF before that, and to 9V before that, and most likely to 4.5V before that. Nothing has changed in that regard. -

Even better would be using footballs/basketballs with this concrete truck instead of 1L beams, then the cement pumping truck would be an instant GBC module. -

From what I've seen from recent Creator sets, the large majority appears to favour heavily the main model, while the other models look more like "what can we do with these parts". Yes, the same happened with City; that's why I kept the backs of the boxes from that time. I wouldn't be surprised if other themes, like Pirates, also had those. -

I kinda share your opinion: my feeling is that, just like idea books, B-models come from a time before anyone could easily go online and find inspiration for other stuff to build. I don't know how will Creator sets, with their 3-in-1 models, will be in the future. -

What do you mean? All PUp hubs (except perhaps the Duplo train) are programmable, and in the case of SPIKE, having a device permanently connected isn't required. -

Printed parts look better than stickered ones, but are more limiting when creating MOCs. This is one of the eternal struggles between fans. -
I think it's not a subjective opinion when I say that PF was not perfect; if anything else, because of the outdated infrared-based communications. Anyway, the C+ hub is slightly shorter, wider and taller than a PF AA box. Given that it replaces one battery box and two IR receivers (which, granted, can be positioned elsewhere and avoid having the bulk all in one place) plus includes an accelerometer/gyro combo and has the possibility open for a rechargeable pack instead of AAs, in my opinion this is a fair trade-off.

If I understood correctly, he de-soldered one of the wires going from the battery to the main board to fully power it down, then soldered it again to restore power. A kind of very hard reboot.

Maybe availability isn't so big yet and they want to discourage people from buying them separately in order to have enough to ship in sets? -

42099 ;) There is a knockoff from Mould King. I'm surprised at that, since the 42097 and 42098 don't have any new moulds (only new colours, which is easy to clone), whereas the 42099 has the complex PUp elements and planetary hubs. -

I, on the other hand, am glad leaks aren't as badly contained as in previous years. -
What we're still missing for that is that "all-in-one" set that the average Joe can buy in stores and require nothing else to motorise a set, again like the 8293. I don't doubt TLG will see that business opportunity.

I fully expect sets with optional motorisation, using a "dumb box"-powered PUp successor of the 8293
