re sets that are "all about the minifigs" There is a difference and should be a distinction between a set that is a bunch of useful/mostly useful minifigs (could be generic or not) with a few bits thrown in, and a set that's a pile of something-or-other (ugly model, generic model, whatever) with a particular sought-after minifig. eg 500 pieces of useless 'who cares', but look! It comes with Yoda! You are buying that whole set for Yoda. Not for a bunch of minifigs that could be augmenting a collection, filling out extras in a scene or whatever, like any of those sets shared previously. You have bought an entire set for 1 character. That is quite different, and a "peeve" that I'm sure many people share. (Businesses need to make more money than they spend of course)

I find the detailed rock formations to be very tedious during the build of an official set. Same with the detailed walls. (Helm's Deep, Kingdoms Joust etc) Fine if it is your own creation (especially if you are totally making it up as you go), but following instructions for actual sets is sooo dull and repetitive. Give me a couple of burps or wall pieces to mix in.

[WIP] Still Nocturnian work :-) Orc Fortress
Artanis I replied to Hersbrucker's topic in Guilds of Historica
Amazing as always. Love the WIPs -
Another possible reason they don't like to do it: they can't just pull thousands of a certain part in a certain colour out of a hat on demand

Help to identify sets from old LEGO stash
Artanis I replied to Vindfrisk's topic in General LEGO Discussion
2 things you can do yourself: 1) view sets by theme on either Brickset or Bricklink to see which you recognise, 2) search for certain parts on Bricklink and see which sets they came in. I can tell you before researching that you have (at least some parts of) the Unitron monorail set, the Ice Planet base, the Spyrius base, the Blacktron 2 base, a police boat, a train, some Paradisa, Octan, Aquazone, BASIC, Space Police 1&2, a variety of Town, some Forestmen and a castle, probably the 1992 one. Looks like you may have these So I would start by downloading or printing an inventory of those sets (assuming they are correct) and separate those parts. Then you can narrow down from there. Looks like a very enviable childhood collection! -

BvS isn't quite that bad. Not saying it's great, but there are far worse movies featuring either of those characters. But then I have a bad feeling after every new Star Wars movie (Rogue One was good once it got going) so maybe it's the same story for DC fans

LEGO Star Wars 2018 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!
Artanis I replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Thanks for reminding me why I skipped May the 4th last year, no minifig. I couldn't remember what sets I got (if any) but didn't think I missed out on an exclusive minifig. Pass again this year perhaps -
TLG's disappointing 2017 financial performance
Artanis I replied to AmperZand's topic in General LEGO Discussion
What will happen to those buildings with a TRU in it? In my experience, whenever a major/minor chain goes down something else similar always fills the physical void in no time. Maybe Lego will open up in some of those malls. -
I don't know when or why it changed, but sometime somehow we went from referring to computers capable of DOS/Windows etc as "IBM compatible" to the term "PC"......... which today is synonymous with "not an Apple Mac" (even though their machines around that time were called PowerPC?)

Meanwhile when I got back into Lego (via vintage Space from eBay & BL), Fantasy Era had wound down & Kingdoms came out. I went mad and bought the whole theme & every old Castle bar the yellow one and the uninspired 2006 one. I actually liked 2013, apart from the underwhelming dragon tower. Most functional castle of recent times. I got so many of the 4 minifig set (for like $9 each) it was the best army builder ever. I never cared for the civilian stuff so it didn't bother me that there weren't any of those sets, and the heraldry was fine to me. But everywhere I turned I heard "it's nowhere near as good as Fantasy/Kingdoms/LOTR/Classic". Then there was rumour of Fantasy Era 2 but it turned out to be minidoll Elves. Then there was another rumour of Fantasy Era 2 but it turned out to be NK. I bet if Castle 2013 came out now after NK that we'd all have liked it. I'd very happily settle for the same-old-same-old 2013 rehashes 6 years later. Big grey/black castle, medium fortress, gatehouse, carriage, small army builder. 2 uninspired factions.

There was a twist ending? I thought that (with respect to Robin Williams) this movie was better than the original. 2 nitpicks however: 5 players but 4 controllers, and the guy is a fan of Metallica AND Pink Floyd?

TLG's disappointing 2017 financial performance
Artanis I replied to AmperZand's topic in General LEGO Discussion
If you were paying attention, you would realise I was talking about Australia and Tasmania (which is less than an hour from a major city like Melbourne, unlike the place you are thinking of) Turns out TRU Australia is not closing for now. But they aren't doing well so it may well be curtains for them before long, too. -
TLG's disappointing 2017 financial performance
Artanis I replied to AmperZand's topic in General LEGO Discussion
If I was formerly a TRU customer I would become a customer somewhere else. Apart from the immediate losses due to the bankrupcy, I don't see how TLG is really in such a bad long-term position over it. It's not like people need to walk into a dedicated toy shop to discover or remember Lego. All their products are available elsewhere too. Particularly in USA with so many Lego stores. Maybe business will go up in those. An entirely different story for other companies & products. Also, they wouldn't deliver to any islands. So for those who lived in the state that is entirely islands and has no physical store, even online purchases weren't possible. Remarkable. -
They might appeal to one side of Castle-fanry, but not to building factions/armies or to augmenting a theme collection with new sets, so that's too bad. If you just want heaps of useful bricks to build dioramas or complicated models with, then you are a bit more happy, in fact there are plenty of resources for that in other themes & Bricklink, as already discussed plenty of times.

Voltron & Ship in Bottle IDEAS approved
Artanis I replied to Hoth Rebel's topic in Special LEGO Themes
6 pilots. (Keith, Lance, Hunk, Pidge, Allura, Sven/Shiro) Sven is expendable but if they want it to tie in with the current show, 6 is a must. $200 is what I put in the Ideas form, in answer to "how much do you think this will cost" -

Haha yes, I just recently changed to the Autumn banner that others were enjoying in context 6 months ago. There's a bit of smug satisfaction to the feeling, like beating the system -
Same. And I knew everyone was going to be pissed off about it too I didn't like how the wolves went from doing whatever they felt like to "sic em, boy" pet dogs And I didn't like how pretty much everyone survived not just the episode, but the whole OT. The end summary was rather bizarre. Everything should've just led up to Rogue One and resolved to that point

How to spend US $800 without buying UCS MF
Artanis I replied to makoy's topic in General LEGO Discussion
You are missing about $2000 from your total. These retired sets are stupidly expensive! You didn't read all of the instructions!
