  1. They are technically alternate builds, but the thing is that unlike the alternate builds in, say, Creator 3-in-1 sets, or the ones from the Lego website or magazines, the alternate builds on the back of boxes were mainly intended as inspiration for the kinds of things you could build with the set rather than explicitly being intended as specific alternate models you were intended to build yourself. So inspiration models is a little more specific to their purpose and prevents confusion with the kinds of alternate builds in modern sets. To say the same thing in different words, we would tend to use the term "alternate build" to refer to something deliberate (eg those Creator or Technic sets with additional instructions for other models), and instead the term "inspiration model" to refer to an example of something else possible (eg the photos on the back of old sets). It's just so people know which of the two you are referring to.
  2. 3 posts in the last 36 hours? I think there's stacks of room for everyone
  3. Not officially, no. Site rhymes with "edit" No large models
  4. Some nice Space-type models in the upcoming NK sets... (anyone who continues to maintain that it's a Castle theme is seriously confused). Reminds me of a lot of Blacktron III theme mocs. At the very least, there's a bunch of trans bright green parts
  5. If I had to spend all* of $800 on Lego at official price (no UCS MF allowed), then that would probably be the only opportunity to purchase the following 2 sets: Death Star $499.99 Ninjago City $299.99 Total = $799.98 Just my 2 cents...
  6. if anything I think the UCS Falcon might point sales towards a system scale one... there'll be loads of kids who'll get that after asking for the large one... Agreed, happens all the time. From my own first-hand experiences: I asked for a certain (expensive, and beyond-budget) board game when I was younger, I was given a cheaper not-as-awesome version. I also asked for the Optimus Prime transformer, I got a smaller similar product and some Optimus Prime stationery instead, haha. If there's a more affordable variation it will be purchased instead, should the UCS be out of your price range.
  7. I'm sliding into a dark age this year. This sums up a lot of it for me: This is all about me at the moment, especially since I can't collect a cohesive wave of my favourite themes Space OR Castle (5-7 different sets in a year or MAYBE more) when those don't exist. The other things I get into are similar licences, like LOTR (dead) and SW (already too big, and just keeps getting bigger). I don't want to touch a theme that has billions of sets, it's too overwhelming. Usually I only pick up a bunch of SW sets (12 or so), but lately we are getting extra waves and more larger than average sets, so I've found myself not getting anything this year despite all of the stuff I'm interested in. And even if I did get all of the stuff I like, where am I going to put it all... Only sets I've bought myself this year have been Guardians of the Galaxy. There were THREE sets - that's a number that's manageable! I'm sure some people wanted more, but I'd much rather TLG release 3 sets than release 0, 10 or 20 sets (which sadly seem to be the trend) All this from someone who is reading Lego sites (including EB) nearly every day. I'm not disinterested in the Lego product, I'm bewildered by the size & range of products currently available (which only adds to the disappointment regarding ongoing lack of supply of my major interests - yes I'm aware they may never return). Too many sets available in the "slightly interested" category (like the sci-fi stuff in Ninjago, Elves, Batmans, fantasy NK villains et al) leads me to just ignore all of them and buy another guitar pedal or cymbal instead.
  8. Leave a comment on social media, or give your feedback to TLG. Don't use PRODUCT review/ratings to share your dissatisfaction with SERVICE or supply... that should be common-sense.
  9. Can this work in place of that triple axle part?
  10. Ah that's why it looks familiar. So perhaps if you cut a ball in half you could make this. (In the wrong colours)
  11. I don't think this is buildable. That "part" just looks like a mash of shapes resembling the middle and bottom of 1x1 round plates glued together
  12. That is what should happen, unless they cancel your order
  13. US stock is completely independent from UK or other regions so timezone would make zero difference. I would also hate to think of the cost to ship it from the UK to the US independently, not to mention relevant import duty/tax. Yeah, so I suggest you forget about that plan and just try to get it locally!
  14. It has been reported that they are available in physical Lego stores but not online. Which is bad news for some, I was keen to get a few. I hope they'll be available at some other point in time or it's off to BL I go. sounds good...
  15. Nah just 5x the normal falcons
  16. It's only the 2nd one in this size range, it has 5 times the parts of the other ones. I don't think you quite realise how huge this set is!
  17. Just looked at what's available on S@H (the site didn't update at midnight), and it appears the Scarif trooper is not available for us - there is a mini walker and poster instead. Triple points is a reasonable discount (but I could get regular sets cheaper at retail). The items on sale are all from last year or before (with a decent additional discount mind you) and I already have what I want from those. Good sale, but I think I'll pass this time.
  18. Don't forget to consider the mammoth postage price to send such a heavy item across the world... The stuff Jang has been threatened to take down are from Disney disallowing public knowledge of any Episode VIII products until tomorrow. The stuff the Dickshow Brickshow are waving around are not part of that dictatorship-level embargo, it's a separate set based on other movies. TLG isn't as heavy-handed when Disney isn't twisting their delicates.
  19. Haha. The rude-word-filter even affects URLs. I was buying blind packaged toys (for my young self) decades ago. It was just as evil then, but not as frustrating as it is as an AFOL. I just BL the CMFs I want now, since my long time convenient source for feeling the bags closed shop 6 months ago. Pay a few dollars more but spend much less time doing it. Sorry to hijack the thread BTW.
  20. Shuttle looks very good, I would say way too big, but then there's that rocket...
  21. Usually at midnight in your local area, or soon after. For physical stores that means when they open. Someone else answered, but you are right in general (when TLG controls the destiny of releases). These events are the exception, where we aren't allowed to even know anything until the official Disney product release on Friday Nothing on topic, except perhaps triple VIP & Scarif polybag for this weekend's promo (not sure if everyone is getting those same deals).
  22. You usually say "Classic" to differentiate from other (later) periods of a theme. I think as far as Lego themes go, the "Classic" label comes about due to the change from what a theme looked like in the early years to what is (or isn't) coming out these days. Classic Space looks nothing like the last few Space releases, the same with Castle, Pirates & Town (City). They were popular themes to start with, they lasted for years, despite the waves being fewer & further between of late they are still going-ish. The other thing about it, is that the original fans probably had a dark age, when they came back, the theme had drastically changed, and we need some label to differentiate the periods. Star Wars has evolved in time, but has been so constantly huge that "Classic SW" would be difficult to label, and the earlier stuff probably isn't that well-loved - nostalgia plays a large part. If Ninjago had a hiatus for a decade, and came back with 2020s style, I'm sure that people would label the first few years as "Classic Ninjago". And, if it had simply been called "Ninja" instead of Ninjago, then I would imagine we would refer to the 90s theme as "Classic Ninja"! (Despite it not being that popular now, and being very short-lived)
  23. Your mileage may vary If you are purchasing online, you are likely to succeed. If you go to multiple physical stores, you are very likely to succeed. If you try to make multiple transactions at the same store (especially in the same visit and/or with the same salesman) you are much less likely to succeed.
  24. Mike was a Lego employee designing CMFs and simply tried to base one on the (very cool) character Strong Bad. He has nothing to do with the cartoon/site, this just suggests that he is/was a fan and tried to incorporate that into his work. Next we need to see a Trogdor minifig with the beefy arm coming out of the back of his neck...
