1. well the prosthetics & effects would have it laughed off the screen if it was released tomorrow, but for its time that is a different matter. 2. those little dragons (iguanas?) were terrible. Vintage Bond. 3. that film was harshly treated, I really enjoyed it. Everyone seems to say it was terrible but none of those people I talked to had watched it. Experts on something they know nothing about. I think it's all just word-of-mouth based on the fact that it cost so much but didn't make much back. But that's good sci-fi for you, expensive & unpopular.

20% off toys at Myer tomorrow (Saturday) only. Big W were advertising some amazing prices for the 2 already available (where the heck is the third) $39 SW sets ... $38!!! That was worth spamming up my email inbox for... -
Galaxy Squad MOC: Armored Rapid Response Walker (ARRoW)
Artanis I replied to Tereglith's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
TL;DR Not that I have the original (nor do expect to ever get hold of any polybags) but it looks like a useful little battle mech. Some suggestions: cover the studs on the legs with a tile, grill or something. Smooth or greebly, whichever. Also cover the holes on the side slope pieces, try using a technic half pin, then you can put something on the stud or in the pin hole. Probably not anything you can do for the tubes in the interior that folds out. Good blend of the 3 colours. -
Some terrible over-acting from Charlton in that movie, but very memorable lines. The better of the 5 from the original series by a fair margin. It's pretty good for a 60s sci-fi movie.

Just noticed the Star Wars Visual Dictionary slashed from $32 to $12.79 on S@H. Seems they need to get rid of it..? -
Zounds! Spiff is hit! He has no choice but to attempt to crash-land in the barren waste of the planet. Brilliant... the tank is amazing (battle droids for feet?!? Clever...) Spiff's ship looks pretty much spot on. Although Hobbes doesn't belong in the scene, your representation is too good to leave out.

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here

(and just as well, because we only get the rest of the "winter" (northern hemisphere - it was summer here) at that time. I'm still waiting for that MHC set to get the new Ahsoka. So you'd better not be getting the next wave already!) Case in point last year, I managed to have the Sith Fury ship sent (slowly, mind you) via BL to me from Europe before it was available in USA. Despite my rubbish camera at the time, my Flickr views went nuts. Nice change from waiting many months after everyone else has the sets... Galaxy Squad anyone? -

Considering your particular items have most likely come from Denmark and not Sydney, I would imagine you'll be waiting longer than if you were ordering something that had been available for longer. It's only been nearly 3 weeks. Are there any public holidays in that time? I don't think I've received an international order from S@H within the 13 business days, but I'm probably 1 day slower than most due to location. -
I'm getting old or something, I don't remember where the pic came from. Something LOTR was on their facebook page, was it this?

I would've thought that the little dragon gate set was more of an "army build" kind of set than the others. Mounted knight + 3 other soldiers. 2 from each side too. I think I got that set 4 times, and all the others from both years once each.

Skyfall. (Also known as Home Alone 007.) Not many actors that I recognise, strangely. Apart from the 2 recurring main characters I recognised Ralph Fiennes.

If an independent place is selling that set, it wouldn't be exclusive to any of the major retailers, right? So maybe Toyworld etc will have it? Just noticed how many stickers that little set has -
Why do we have to wait until May? Thing is, as far as I know there isn't any indication at all on when it will be released. It doesn't have to turn up when the other LOTR sets do. TLG is getting better at keeping things secret for longer, so there is a possibility that we will get details just before it appears, and that could be at any time. That often happens with exclusive sets. One thing we have that suggests it won't be long is that we were given an image a while ago showing the dimensions. They would hardly wait months & months after revealing something for a set like this. An entire line of standard sets, yes, but not this sort of thing. That's what I reckon anyway.

I haven't noticed any yellowing in anything new I've bought since then. All yellowed stuff I have is from before my dark age, which started late 90s. I am curious about whether it's happened to anyone else. BTW, I believe the yellowing is caused by the oxidation of bromine (in the flame retardant) near the surface of the plastic, hence why you can reverse the effect by reversing the chemical reaction. (Or is it the opposite, chemistry was so long ago...) But the old stuff you definitely would need to do again, as the same chemical reaction will occur again over time, slowly yellowing your bricks. (Sunshine acts as a catalyst and speeds it up.)

It is over $100 for Australia, so probably @$45 or 50 for you. But when you consider our prices it's not like we have to buy more sets than you to get to that limit. (Although we do have to add postage on top of the $100, so if anyone wants my opinion: waste of time & money.)

Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Season 5 Discussion
Artanis I replied to LEGOman273's topic in Culture & Multimedia
I've been following the show throughout and only found out this season was 20 episodes instead of 22 when I came in here to read what people had to say about this last weekend's episode. I thought there would be 2 more, still don't know why there isn't, not that it really matters. -

Thanks, seems all the contest topics had that information - except the one I looked in before trying here.
-
Um, I'm blind, stupid or just haven't been able to find where it says when the contests close. It says "Fabuland month" everywhere but that started over a month ago, and so now it's extended? Until when? I dug out the few Fabuland parts I know of, I have a couple of ideas, (this is where I usually get to with each themed month) but don't know when I'll get to it.

We certainly hope not anyway! Although it would be a cool minifig, just not very suitable for its purpose.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Season 5 Discussion

Exactly, they were damned if they did and damned if they didn't. To all the people annoyed at the portrayal of the council being confused, lacking wisdom etc remember everything is being clouded by the dark side. The jedi are trying to keep that secret. Usually they would be able to discern by using the force. Unfortunately now it has been made public that their abilities are weakened. -
Better than Hot Shots 2?

I'm not really too interested in that Bilbo minifig, and if extended editions ARE coming out I will defer to those. If I wait but they aren't, oh well, no big loss. I bought a Blu Ray drive for my computer 3 years ago (originally to watch The Clone Wars) and I have to say that the difference in quality is as much as from VHS->DVD (how noticeable does depend on what it was originally filmed in obviously). I only have a 24" screen. I have no intention to buy DVDs ever again (except for old releases that may never come out on BluRay). And BDs aren't that much more expensive now, in fact DVD prices are deliberately LOWERED because people won't want them anymore fairly soon. Same as what happened for VHS, vinyl records & audio cassette tapes. (CDs are going that way too.) When a new format is released it is a higher price than everything else until it becomes common, then prices come down to normal. The price of the older format is reduced until it is no longer used. I remember when you could get a movie on VHS for $25-30 or on DVD for $10 more. Later, it was DVD $25-30 and VHS for cheap. After then, BD for $10 more. Now, BD for $25-30 and DVD for cheap. Does anyone still buy VHS? What am I saying? You guys may not have BD player or discs yet, but you probably will, and right now you sound to me the same as the people who whined about not having a DVD player 10 years ago. And I don't have a 3D TV so to some people I might be the next one to sound like that in a few years ...

YMMV... Kmart near me has very little in the way of last year's SW sets, certainly no Jabba's Palace. Shame, I would've grabbed one at that price. I must live near hoarders or scalpers, as soon as something is marked down slightly it disappears forever, even if it isn't a reasonable price. Seems they don't want planet sets though, because the old ones are now down even further to $8. That is half price I believe. Or 50% off, depending on what sounds better to you... Also, Friends sets are plenty. Annoyingly, the Barbie M******ks are parked right next to them. Hopefully that doesn't affect their sales.
