Seems a reasonable solution. Completely unnecessary minifigs in my opinion.

You are talking about Lego... It looks as though the base is connected under the gate, so you'd have to do more than simply switch the components around. If that's what you meant.

Lawless (Bane & Sam Witwicky meet Commissioner Gordon) and Taxi Driver (early Robert DeNiro & very early Jodie Foster) Not for children.

Good luck with the polybags. Star Slicer I'm not sure if it will turn up with the next lot or not. That's probably the go. That's why you attack with a mixed & balanced army, and force them to micro-manage. Have you tried playing StarCraft? Don't send a whole army of zealots if the enemy is going to be able to just shoot them down from the air.

I haven't seen it before. Very impressive! Not sure why there's a hobbit with a ring though... nor why they didn't use an official character for him. Only real improvement would be if the elves were fleshy official versions too. Now we know where all the "Uruk-Hai Army" sets and CMF elves disappeared to!

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here

I use a sharp knife, at least locally referred to as a Stanley knife (I think they pioneered a design that many others copied - it's basically a heavy duty case with retractable blade). Just wiggle it a bit hoping that the glue comes away from one side without taking too much cardboard from the other. I avoid breaking the perforated thumb tabs. The bigger boxes that fold open however, I don't have a "keep the box in as good a condition as possible" solution yet. Of course, the ones with a plastic sticker seal I just slice the seal with a knife. Pretty sure that's what you're meant to do? I definitely don't try peeling the sticker off. -

My post had little to do with yours btw, there's a few impatient souls that cry foul quite regularly. I think our official release dates are mid-month anyway. New stuff for this month should be on shelf by the end of next week, some retailers put stuff on shelf as soon as it arrives, but aren't supposed to. -

Dudes, 1 or 2 weeks is usually the maximum delay. Get over it. I haven't seen any yet either, and I'm not complaining. If it was months of delay you have an excuse to be disappointed. "Waaaahhhh, I'm from SA or WA, and NSW & Victoria gets Lego a week before me, they do it on purpose because they're so mean! " -
Usually I get bored in the middle of your posts because they're so long and detailed in reasoning, (I'm often in a hurry skimming new posts) but this time I got a kick. Hit the nail on the head. "Where does your army reside, assemble and train?" "We just stand around some ol' rock..." The "bad" guys rarely get a decent base. Sucks. When I was younger and used to play with my knights & soldiers, the main storylines were one army taking over the base/castle of another. (Then getting beaten by a third army because their forces were spread too thin over too many bases - unless they were able to gain defectors...) Who would want to take over a rock when you already have a castle? Also had enough of "evil wizard boss" AFOLs would probably complain that they were just rehashing something done before! And yes, 6086 is still the best, despite the raised baseplate.

Funnily enough, it is the only part of the city accessible in the Lego LOTR game. And that's the outdoor section BTW. Unless you briefly ride out of Minas Tirith with Gandalf at the end of the Pelennor Fields level? (Not sure if I'm just confusing that with Theoden at Helm's Deep though.) But it was an interesting one

Someone please close this thread, no one is talking about the new Castle sets.

On my end, I have the sets all built and on display. All the duplicate named characters can appear in each scene they were part of. As of wave 1, I am only short a Merry for Balin's tomb. (If you don't count Weathertop being short a few Nazgul.) Corsair set covers itself, as does the wizard duel. By buying 2 gates and the Rivendell set my extra W'Gandalf can go to Helm's Deep, somehow I could get one of my spare Aragorns to fit Rivendell, my already spare Boromir can join him along with my spare G'Gandalf. (Just add a couple of Legolases and extra hobbits to complete each scene!) Just leaves 1 each extra of Mouths, Theodens, Haldirs, beserkers and a bunch of Lurtzes & Eomers to find a place for...

The Moria orcs are double-faced, that alleviates some "sameness" there. The uruk-hai are double-faced and have helmet options, that alleviates the "sameness" there. Unfortunately the Mordor orcs have only 1 face, but you can use the heads from the Goblin King Battle. I admit, it would be nicer for sets to immediately have more variation for the orcs, but I think it's the weapons & faces that make the most difference, and that base is covered for us by BL. Yes it would be awesome to have varied helmets & torsos, but that would just drive the prices up.

In addition to the "Gimli has only been in expensive sets so far" argument, there aren't too many more sets he could appear in for next year's (assuming there is one) wave. He showed up late for the Minas Tirith battle, I imagine any Pelennor Fields set would have Merry, Eowyn, Witch King, Theoden & perhaps Legolas before him. He didn't really do anything else in ROTK outside of the 2 scenes already covered this wave. (Black Gate & Paths of the Dead) You'd think Rohan has been done, I wouldn't imagine he'd be in a balrog set, and Boromir & Aragorn + hobbits would appear before him in an Amon Hen set. So we may not even see him again?

Exactly. I think Monster Fighters was a hit and could've kept going, but only one wave was planned and that was it. Keep in mind that a line of sets is planned very far in advance. They don't put out wave 1, wait to see how well it sells, then churn out a wave 2 if it goes well. If TLG had known early enough that the 3D SW movies were going to be put off, they wouldn't have made & be releasing all of those Episode 2 sets. We've known for a while now that the movies aren't happening, but the sets are still on the way. Also, when The Hobbit was changed to 3 movies, it was too late for TLG to change the sets being released. Galaxy Squad's release longevity was most likely decided some time ago. (and 2 waves is common for action themes)

That's my guess. Hope I'm right at the worst. I have heard disappointment from EU buyers at the "mark-up" (vs US price) on Lone Ranger sets in Europe (particularly the Stagecoach Escape), so my conclusion is that the US prices are hideously artificially low to try to generate decent sales in NA, particularly of that set. I imagine TLG has a LOT of competition for this line there. My search last night did not uncover that set, I could do with another at that price (nearly half price!)... I found all the rest though. -
Apart from the rocks on the side looking different (indeed, probably connected by pins), the only thing about the towers that is "reversed", mirrored or assymetrical is the flame torch location... But the gates themselves, would it be better to modify them to open in the middle? I need to watch these movies again, it's been over a year, surely. (Although not so long since playing the computer game)

Mistake in LEGO's minifigure timeline?
Artanis I replied to badbob001's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Bad mistake, those pictured are not duplo. Yeah probably confused the description with those limbless duplo figures you posted. I had a couple of those. The Lego LOTR game has quite a few bearded ladies... -
Rivendell set looks even better now. So the challenge has been set, next contest I enter will contain brick separators as part of the model...

I don't think we should ever compare other themes to SW for trends. There is just so much to it every year: 2 waves of small, medium & large construction sets (each with 2 or 3 limited release sets), 2 [insert correct label here] huge sets, multiple promotional & purchasable polybags (minifigs & minis) plus other one-offs now & then. There are also the magnets/keyrings/clocks/watches/books... This stuff is being released right throughout the year. (Of course some releases are going to overlap.) Irrespective, I don't think that there will be any other LOTR construction sets this year (besides the 5 that we know), I think GRogall would've dug it up with the other hi-res pics. I could be wrong, but remember we knew about Orc Forge & Barrel Escape well before their releases.

NOTE TO NON-US BUYERS: New sets (on TRUs US site) are not available to ship to Australia, however they are tagged as "ships internationally" so perhaps they are available to you, check it out if you can't wait until August or whenever.

Just checked prices for the X-Wing, which is also $200 USD, and $280 AUD. So $280 AUD for Orthanc is a good estimate. Aussie prices are coming down!

News LEGO Boardgames 2013 Rumours & Discussion
Artanis I replied to Wout's topic in Special LEGO Themes
That article has absolutely no source. It even states TLG has not even commented. It also has no source for its claims of "this didn't sell" "that didn't sell" - not that I refuse to believe any of it, nor that any of it is unlikely, but still...
