  1. Here's my little dumper truck. Functions: - drive & steering (obviously) with PF - adjustable suspension angle (left/right) controlled by a Mindstorms EV3 unit that reads sideways tilt from an accelerometer to keep the truck upright; basically a self-leveling suspension - dumping with EV3 reading PF remote using an IR sensor - Baja Claw TTC tires by RC4WD on Lego 56mm rims. I've tried to fit more, but the problem with these trucks is that the chassis has actually little room, it needs to be pretty flat to fit under the cargo hold, and the area with the most room (front of the front axle) is taken up by the Mindstorms EV3 unit. There was a 4-speed transmission initially, but I've taken it out as it kept disengaging under stress (the truck weighs 4.156 kg). 2. Automated vehicle lighting has been a dream for many of us for years - and now it's possible without cutting any wires or building custom electronics, just a few minutes with the SBrick does the trick:
  3. I like that! Looks like you could easily build a Braille version as well :)
  4. I finally had a moment to compare the new motors against the PF motors in several categories, including torque, speed and several others. The results are, well, a bit confusing, as the new XL motor appears to be faster and weaker than the new L motor. I guess we won't know for sure until Philo runs his tests. FYI, the torque tests were all done using the same batteries and the same setup with motors pushing a rack down onto a scale using a t28 gear, and the speed tests were done also done with the same batteries and with Mindstorms angle sensor for measuring speed.
  5. Here's my 42099 review, including a thorough overview of the Control+ app and close examination of the many new pieces (including X-rays):

  7. Such a great and inspiring talent. Can't quite believe it. He will be sorely missed :(
  8. I don't have any idea how to do it reliably.
  9. My 42099 review is coming this Thursday at 13:00 CET. It will include speed measurements of the new motors, and - if everything works out - X-rays of the new pieces, too. It will be followed by a detailed 42099 VS 9398 outdoors test. Stay tuned!
  10. Look lovely, great photos too!
  11. 4 or 5 out of five. It's a very playable set and possibly the most unique LEGO Technic crane up to date. I like it a lot, except for the obviously botched outriggers.
  12. Sure. But if they put the superstructure 1 or 2 studs higher by default, this function wouldn't be needed in the first place. I understand that the idea is to make the folded crane lower even by just 2 studs, I'm just not really impressed by having this entire functionality only producing 2 studs of movement. Personally, I wish they skipped it and reinforced the outriggers' bases instead.
  13. Nice! Really looks like in the movie. Can you build Matt Damon, too? :)
  14. For me looks is about aesthetics while authenticity is about realism. So a set can be pretty but unrealistic or ugly as hell yet accurate.
  15. Sorry, busy at work (almost wrote "busty", whoops!), here it goes:
  16. Not sure about fairly easy. A quick look at tire sizes shows that you would need to make it exactly 2x bigger.
  17. It's this time of the year again... I'll be adding videos to the first post as they come. 42099 4x4 X-treme Off-roader: 42099 VS 9398: 42098 Car Transporter 42097 Spider Crane (ok, Compact Crawler Crane officially :P )
  18. And the POV speed build if you want to feel like you're building it :)
  19. Here are all the possible combinations for the new 28t double bevel gear wheel that I found so far. Do you have more?
  20. Which may very well be related to this thread :) The review goes live 3PM CET on July 9th.
  21. The automated differential lock idea is brilliant. It's such an obviously very handy mechanism for any off-road vehicle that I can't believe nobody has thought of it before.
