Pics welcome!.....i have been trying over the past few months to gather Technic parts in rare colours, most recently i bought 5 of part # 48989 in Red. Only avialable in two sets, last one being the awesome dump druck 7344 from 2005. What rare parts have you got in your collection?....do you end up using them?, when building 42029 recently the instructions called to use two Black #32138 on the bonnet, since i had them in Red i use them instead...and the model looks much better for it. http://www.bricklink...&colorID=5&in=A http://www.bricklink...&colorID=5&in=A

+1 om 42029....it has a large part count, has alot of the newer Technic parts for building cars etc. Great price for only €90. It's a great introduction to Technic, the parts and the building techniques....and it looks great!

Where to buy Parts
Richard Dower replied to Beck's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I mostly agree, but there are some vendors that have pretty good deals...if you looks around. It depends on how many parts you need...for big bulk orders Bricklink is the way to go. But for smaller lots i find ebay quite good, and you do come across some rarther rare parts from time to time, but i agree mostly that ebay is more expensive. -
Studless Seats
Richard Dower replied to VKTechnic's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Most of the official Technic sets have very simple and rather boring seats and designs, almost always Blue with little variation to the parts count or design. Though the seats in 8297 were a break from the norm. But i guess seats are not a priority for parts and designs perspectives. -
Where to buy Parts

I use Ebay, haven't used Bricklink as yet. Buy and Sell is also good for second hand sets or parts. -
9390 is a lovely little set....i to have experienced issues via ebay, items not as described or molds not the same as advertised or different to pics etc.

MOC's with highest number of parts?...or motors?....lots of scope for record breakers :-) -
1H2015 Video Reviews
Richard Dower replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
JANGBRICKS has a few new reviews from the 1H 2015 sets, such as A and B for 42031 and the B of 42041: His Bricklink haul videos are great to watch as well, always interesting to see what parts he got in the mail. He review alot of classic sets as well which are fun to watch. -
Because i want a **brand new** set, or close as possible. I disagree about parts looking the same after washing. They dont compare or look the same as brand new parts. New parts are shinny and have no scratches, whereas used parts look used and have obvious time blemishes. I buy second hand sets because there are usually parts unique to that set which can only be found in that set.

It struck me as odd that there was no PF switch.....i also expected the LED lights to be placed on there......

I built 8258 and 8285 via ebay from buying new parts. For 8285 i bought a second hand set to get the unique Metallic Silver parts, i then bought as many of the part inventory in brand new condition as i could. I belive i had over 95% of the parts brand new....the wheel hubs and the 77535 connectors were the hardest to find brand new. I have been collecting parts to build old Technic sets myself, i have found lego Racers to be an excellent source of older parts. You can buy alot of the Racers sets brand new in box still, for example i bought 8140 and it had 4 of the old Black panel types i needed for 8285. For the Combine Harvester what i plan to do is buy a second hand set cheap, take all the unique parts that cant be replaced with new parts and wash them....then buy all the other parts brand new. I have built lots of old Racers and Technic sets this way. My most recent project is building 8649, i plan to review that set when i start to build.

Deffo the biggest set of its type then....was wondering how it compared to 8043, though i think you should have 42006 in that picture also.

Indeed......... Not heard of this cracking stuff before....but i am only into Lego for the last 18 months and all my sets were bought or built from brand new parts. I guess if sets do develop cracking its a good excuse to tear down those old sets for a good dusting and replace parts and do a fresh build. If there is an upside..........

The current battery box is too large imo and its design isint very good. A smaller more compact version could be very useful and able to fit in tighter spots or certainly allow for more building and placement options. What do you think of the current AA box and how do you feel about the triple A version?

Technic General Discussion
Richard Dower replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I built 8258 via Ebay, i bought all the parts brand new....and i got the part list 100% accurate. It took months and about €400....but i got there :-) The parts you mentioned are available brand new, i have seen them on Ebay....do a search by part number or Lego 8258. The original Red panel without holes can be got...those panels have appeared in some Bionicle sets. Do a search on Bricklink, if push comes to shove you can deffo get them second hand. I built 8258 + 2285 from buying in parts...it was well worth the time, effort and money :-) -
I *finally* bought this set!...i have been sooooo obsessed buying parts the last few months that i havent bought a single official set, as such there are tons of 2014/15 sets that i really must buy to catch up. This was the first 2014 set i got....and its pretty darn awesome!....i have a couple of those Red #3 connectors that i will use on the front grill to replace the LBG ones that totally look out of place! Not built it yet but i have the parts sorted, really looking forward to the build!!!

Yeah....the stickers are in such poor condition it is pointless having them stay on, best just to soak all the parts in warm soapy water for a few hours....they stickers come off very easy with no glue residue left over. Done it recently with my second hand 8649...good thing about stickers being in place is that the panel is protected from scratches/wear/tear and time...so the panels are as new. If i were the OP i would swap out as many of those second hand parts for new ones.....nothing beats the look of fresh parts! :-) Now that you done that it is a good time to build that B model...... :-)
