42040 Fire Plane

build the B....trust me! -
i think these new elements will end up in the spare parts bin....they are like those highly specialised parts TLG were making in the early 2000's...a Lego designer given a budget increase, and he goes mad.......creates something that has very little reusability. but the point is...there are standard technic parts that could accomplish the same purpose, look at the boom of 8285, just technic bricks with holes and gear racks. simple and effective, how are these new rack parts better? but the added strength is still limited by its length, you cant create very long gear racks with this part like you can using conventional methods, and there are ways to increase structural rigidigty of conventional rack designs.

Not sure if that is the correct technical term....but i have been looking at some rather interesting and little used parts and wondering if anyone has found a good use or more creative use for these parts? I bought these in yellow as i had an idea of adding them somewhere on 8275....but cant think of a good spot? http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=30622#T=C http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=30647&idColor=66#T=C&C=66 http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=61069&idColor=85#T=C&C=85

ha!...i doubt we will ever see a set with 3000 parts. I think the Acros at 2800 is as big as well will get. +1...the best idea imo! it would be a great fandom battle, with the likes of 8285/8275/8043 and 8258 battling it out!

another good thing about this set is the fresh supply if LBG panels, they were getting rare and quite expensive! i want to build 8052 but the #62531 panels were quite expensive....hopefully the price starts to drop.

8043 White MOC
Richard Dower replied to Richard Dower's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
parts list: https://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?S=8043-1#T=S&O={%22ii%22:1} building instructions: http://brickset.com/sets/8043-1 you can buy the threads in either DBG or Black, as seen on this model. you are basically replacing the yellow parts with white.... -
i have no good reason for not using bricklink....i just dont. i am just used to using ebay, it has served me well thus far and i have a good relationship with several ebay stores/sellers. if i am missing a part they are kind enough to go on bricklink and buy the stuff i need...course they add on a charge, but that capilalism...and maybe srupidity on my part. as for the set, a big part of me wanting it as you say is its uniqueness, in terms of the rare colours used. i agree with Blackbird that they could have used standard colours and it would have looked the same. most of the rare colours are used in the inside of the chassis...you dont really see them. i thought since it was 2004 that maybe TLG were trying to use up their inventories and get rid of certain parts in certain colurs.....?, but then they go and produce yet more parts in colours only found in this set, like the tan parts and the DBG engine blocks? its a weird set on many levels. I got the blue beams brand new ok, the hard part to find were the 1x13 liftarms on blue...but i got them just recently, i bought 20 of them brand new, they were shiny and spotless :-) most of the parts can easily be replaced and found brand new, save for the parts already listed above. as i have said before on other threads my aim is to get the set as cloase to BNIB as possible. yes....the sterring wheel as you say is only found in this set in white, i found an ebay store that had them brand new...he is selling 4 of them in a lot VERY cheap, if you want to do a search yourself. i would even say the steering arms were very rare as well, at least they were before the cargo plane appeared: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=6572&colorID=1&in=A that cargo plane actually brought back several parts in rare colours back into circulation, the same with #32250 part, which had not been seen in several years: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=32250&colorID=85&in=A that is one good thing about TLG and Technic, each year they do seem to rereleas parts that were rare....for someone like me who is actively building old Technic sets and buying parts it is great!

Yes....there was no way for me to get the wheels and engine blocks without buying a used set, BNIB sets are very expensive, and even second hand sets can be quite pricey. I got mine cheap as it had no box or manuals, and some parts were missing + filty. I took it apart and dumped the vast majority of the parts, as i had been collecting brand new parts for this set for over a year, as they popped up etc. Its amazing who rare those black and yellow bushes are....i got the white ones brand new very easy. have all of the blue liftarms new....i had just under 700 parts new, but this set has parts that are only found in this set. looks wise its not that great, but blue is a nice colour, pendular rear suspension and full independent suspension on the front. its boxy and framey to be sure....but it has a certain something that compelled me to buy it.

so after ages waiting for a good deal i finally bought oneoff ebay for 40 Euro....it had a few of the unique/rare yellow and black #3713 bushes missing...but thankfully i has them in my second hand parts bags. The set i got was filthy!....like really REALLY bad. Anyways i had always planned to take it apart and keep unique/rare parts...of which this set has many, and rebuild the set and use as many brand new parts as i had collected. From a parts perspective this set is highly unique, it has tons of parts only found in this set, many more are very rare and only found in a handful of sets....most not even Technic related. You should take a peek at the parts list, as far as i know this set is also unique from how it is built....the chassis is built frist, then the entire blue outerfame is bult and just placed on top. the colour scheme is also quote unique....check out the parts and the colours used! i am deffo gonna build the A and B as soon as i aquire all the parts i need, i need to but a second hand set to ensure i got thr wheels and the really rare stuff that i cant find brand new parts for. http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=8435-1

My Red #3 connector hunt....
Richard Dower replied to Richard Dower's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
sorry to bump this....but someone might find this of interest. There is an Italian ebay seller who has 9 of these Red #3 connectors, they are brand new.....but, he is charging 9.90 Euro per part!....and a further 10 Euro for shipping. I wont post the direct link....but if you are crazy enough to pay the price........... -

If it were me....i would take it apart, wash it, dry and polish......then swap out as many of the old parts with new ones as your stockpile of spare parts would allow. Like...if it were me, i could swap out alot of the black parts for brand new....i'd try and get the set to as close to brand new in box as possible. but that's me........ -
Cheers Sariel.....i think they used the parts very well, while i personally would not build the ASU or the ladder, i would use the parts as spares, i think they were creative in trying to use as many parts as possible. It has neat functions, and more then i expected for a B model....it could well sell as they A with a little more refinement. I look to sets to see if i will buy two to build A and B.....this is certainly a set i will buy two of.
