LDD.LEGO.com is finally gone?!

TLG seems to be having some server issues (again ) I couldn't access B&P or any area of customer service today. -
Xbox - I'm thinking the 'R' designation is in studs - LEGO curves are R40, which then gives a radius of 32 cm, assuming 0.8 cm/stud

So I got the kid the 60052 Cargo Train for his birthday, and looking to extend the possibilities of the layout. His train table is 4' by 6' (122 cm x 183 cm), so there will be room to add a second loop and some switches, etc... I see that ME Models now has R56, R72 and R88 ABS curves for sale on BL. Which do you think is best, or combinations - suggestions greatly appreciated.

Your Best Technic Bargains
JGW3000 replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Its Amazon Prime day in the US - nothing too good in the Technic department, although 42050 drag racer is listed at 33% off. I got the 60052 Cargo Train for the kid's birthday, also at 33% discount, so I'm happy. (And after all, it does have PFs, so could be considered an honorary model team set ). -

Thanks for the compliments! Unlike in the real Cadillac Ranch, I only built the parts of the cars that are visible - so no complete cars, only the back 80%

You have found the secret of LEGO. The extra length of the anti-stud tubes allows for a slight amount of flexibility, giving the connection it's Clutch Power.

No proper storage containers yet, but lots of space - this is a reclaimed home-school classroom (kids preferred to study in the kitchen, go figure). Still getting organized but I got some of the more important stuff out on the table . (Note the apparently mandatory treadmill off to the side, in case I need additional room to store my models). Display shelfs will be installed after some other carpentry projects. There is also room for an 4'x8' train table in the opposite corner, waiting for the Heavy Haul Train.

Finally settled on the simplest solution - just a single loop of fishing line, looping through both support beams and looped over the exposed ceiling rafters.

Well done and very recognizable. Too bad you couldn't build the "man" dress also

Another consideration is to compare the cost of other activities. If I take two kids to the movies, plus popcorn, etc... we are entertained for about two hours, at a cost of maybe $7 per hour per person. On the other hand, if I buy a flagship Technic set for $240, then take 8 hours to build it split amongst the three of us (me and two kids), then 2 hours to tear apart, then 8 hours to build the B-model - so far its $15/hr for the build experience. Then factor in all of the time spent swooshing and playing with the model and later MOC'ing with the same parts, the final cost can easily drop to $5/hr or less - so from an entertainment perspective, a large upfront investment of $240 yields very cost effective entertainment, and unlike a movie or other activity, is not fleeting but persistent.

On the dusty high plains of West Texas, the Llano Estacado of yore, memorialized in song and art, sited on a extant portion of the original Mother Road, Route 66, just west of Amarillo, rests Stan Marsh's Cadillac Ranch, a monument to the Open Highway, the Road Trip, and the Gasoline-Fueled Four-Wheel Behemoths that used to prowl these byways. Cadillac Ranch is a modern sculpture of a series of ten 1950's era Cadillacs buried hood first in the West Texas dirt, designed to illustrate the progression of body styles and tail fins through the decade and beyond, with vehicle models from 1949 to 1963 stuck unceremoniously in the ground. The installation is publically accessible - and untold numbers of visitors have left their marks - brightly painting every above-ground surface with a variety of designs, colors, and graffiti. My version of this iconic architectural landmark is a mini-fig scale depiction of four Cadillacs, containing 1217 parts. Designed and built over the course of about 6 months, going through several iterations. Enjoy. Additional images are in my brick safe gallery, including an image with CADILLAC RANCH title tile, and images with optional minifigs busy "decorating" image from Wikimedia Commons:

So I got a new LEGO room / ManCave for my son and I. Its large, about 20'x30', with open cathedral ceiling with exposed beams, ideal for hanging 9393 helicopter, 8480 space shuttle, 42025 cargo plane, etc.. I am looking for some solutions to do so - some requirements are - sturdy, can't risk any model falling; easily removable, by standing on a step stool should be able to reach the model and uncouple it from the hanger system for occasional swooshing and PF operation, and the hanging solution should be somewhat invisible. I am thinking about using this part , in trans-clear, as part of the support structure under the models, and then using colorless nylon rope to loop over the exposed beams. Perhaps s-hooks or carabiner-hooks can be used to attach the beams to the rope. Wondering if anyone else has done something similar and their solution. I am not planning to operate the PF while the models are suspended, however, but could one day...

White is the New Red
JGW3000 replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That's why I keep my cats out of my new LEGO room, it even has the apparently now required treadmill. However, my son was not that fortunate in keeping the cats out of his LEGO storage containers . Blakbird - do you keep buying parts, or will any of these get recycled? So many rare parts... -
Just tell your wife that the more time you are at home playing building MOCs with your LEGO, the less time you are spending at a bar, etc.., think of the savings both in direct dollars and in the intangible benefits as well. Works for me, haven't 'needed' to go to a bar for ages .
