  1. Funny, cute and wicked at the same time. Great work.
  2. Excellent detail. You've done a great job with presenting the ship in these pictures, well done!
  3. Great version of a great original. Can I ask what you used for the dark brown door, is it bricks or a door piece?
  4. Very good. Really like the use of the fences on their sides for the windows and the large arched window.
  5. Thanks Eanair. It's great to get this such words from a local.
  6. Thanks for the feedback guys! I sure will give the dome another go sometime and hopefully improve it
  7. Thank you for the comments and questions everyone! As some have guessed, although there is a roof, there is no back, namely for the following reasons: 1. it gobbled up all of my LBG bricks, 2. the back and sides of the actual Custom House is quite plain. It is also very large as this aerial photo shows and you could expect to quadruple your brick requirement for little aesthetic gain if you were to replicate all sides. The moc itself is built in sections and my plan is that it will form the basis of 3 separate buildings in a city layout. For these, interiors will likely be made but there's no interior at the moment - sorry no toilets everyone, please keep it in I was pleased enough with the dome but agree that it could look less blockly. I wanted to use curved parts such as 61678 and length variants but if I recall correctly at the time of building these were not available or not available in the quantity required in sand green, which I had chosen to represent the corroded copper colour. I'll see if I can dig out a closer shot of the main entrance. Thanks for viewing!
  8. Hello everyone! The neoclassical Custom House in Dublin was built in 1791, burnt down in 1921 before its restoration to what it is today, a grand but neglected building. It was quite unpopular with many at the time of its completion but I’m hoping minifigures are less critical. I'm interested in hearing what you all think. Dublin Custom House by David D, on Flickr
  9. I can accept the time and patience point you make but really it is far cheaper to buy new parts from online LEGO marketplaces than buying official box sets just for parts.
  10. My 2 bricks on this would be that if you are an adult you should not rely on LEGO for city buildings. There's 2 big problems as I see it. As everyone knows LEGO don't venture much outside the police, fire, ... usual sets, so that's problem one, revisions of sets every year. Presumably this is what kids want so we can't blame LEGO here. Second problem is really the main one and it is that the quality of the sets and value for money (versus cost of parts online) they tends to be low to very low. Fun for kids, they're playable etc (and that's great) but for realism they're fairly terrible. So, all I can recommend is that you swap the buying of sets in your local store to the online purchase of bricks and pieces that actually allow you to build what you want. You will find that you can build much better MOCs than LEGO will ever produce and save a lot of money too. Regards
  11. Hi Ben, I 100% agree on the planes of old - 4-wide forever as they say! Great airport, has it been named yet?
  12. I am somewhat concerned by the diet your figures enjoy however this build is very enjoyable. Particularly like the neat detail throughout, the trays and food preparation area are great.
  13. Fantasic, great build! How the the blue tint behind the 'glass' done?
  14. Nice to see the palms grow.
  15. Well done, this is very impressive. Details such the boarding bridges are very good. Particularly like the smaller aircraft (those parked at terminal). Runway is very large, not easy to accommodate no doubt.
  16. Nice city. Look forward to seeing more photos as it evolves.
  17. @johnl For figures and accessories I have tended to use http://www.minifigbay.com - good prices and shipping fees are reasonable Next time you're shopping on a marketplace like Bricklink, I would suggest it is best to check Store Terms before ordering. If they don't show shipping rates, don't order!
  18. Thank you for taking the time to suggest improvements, it is appreciated. I agree that the guns are probably out of scale in one way and a wider hull could rectify it. I did considered smaller guns but could not get the 3 barrel look looking anyway good when the turret is 2+ studs shorter in width. I can experiment further of course, maybe there's a solution. Taking your comments on board, pun intended, I may widen it a bit at the centre... the Front and back may need some work too I agree. I am open to more suggestions.
  19. As promised, some updated pics.. with some minifigs :)
  20. Hi all, I have been experimenting with my first attempt at a battleship - photos attached. Comments or suggestions most welcome but keep in mind I have tried to cap the width of the ship at 14 studs to fit in with other ships eg LEGO's Maersk and I have tried to create a style ship more akin to WWI - WWII eras. The ship is still a work in progress although is unlikely to change drastically for now. Apologies in advance at quality of some of the pictures... bit blurry.
  21. Thank you for the feedback... @Dfenz... will be complete for the exhibit and thank you for parts assistance! I have made some tweaks so will post updated pictures soon.
  22. Thanks all for the comments. To answer some of the questions... I wasn't aware of the upcoming Simpsons theme until after I had started this so I guess it was accidently fairly well timed. Look forward to having a Homer though. The towers were a problem and unfortunately have gaps. Experimented with a few other designs but this was the simplest and cheapest one. May try another sometime. It could well have a meltdown as it's operating despite not having had a safety check..
  23. The Empire has opened a new nuclear facility in Enatol. Some pictures below. You can read about it and see more pictures at http://www.minifigtimes.com
  24. It is nice to see that some others appreciate the old-style 4-wide cars also. For me they are quintessentially classic LEGO. Hrw-Amen, there are some actual LEGO sets over to the right, including the eiffel Tower. Most will not be in this city though, but I prefer not to break them up as most are old sets from 1990s and 1980s.
  25. Thanks for the feedback everyone. To answer the questions... Santa has just robbed a Post Office and is running to his getaway Smart Car vehicle, as he would. The bridge is a two track train bridge. Not sure if it will extend across the entire city but likely I will give it a try if I have enough grey bricks although I suspect I may have to start saving the pennies.
