You may want to try to use Brik Wars 2010 rules.

Just so you know, you can't just use HTML on your post. BBCode is used.

I really like the build style and the deck of this vessel. It looks pretty good in my opinion. Would these be close enough for belaying pins? They're for clone trooper helmets. They're 3mm in diameter, which means they can be clipped. Billy clubs could also be used, but there doesn't seem to be very many cheap ones available.

Tables for modular towns ? Any advice for a UK AFOL ?
Capn Frank replied to Amiko's topic in LEGO Town
You could check out the Town Layout Index. There's also an old index that is no longer maintainedI, but it could give you some ideas for a layout and then what you'd need for table(s). -
I like the brick-built palm trees. The lamp is very nice too. The only issue seems to be that your figs seem sick or discolored.

Thanks for sharing BrickKnight! I think TLG should have these back-stories and box art return in their new pirate line.

That is one beautiful ship.

Great to see you still building MOCs. This another great creation of yours. It's got a lot of great detail. And the overall look of it seems iconicly Spanish.

Those are some very nice looking rowboats. This is a great idea for a design. I've had a similar rowboat where the keel technic brick was upside down and tiled on its studs. However, the curved bricks were attached to the tile along the keel.

Alice In Wonderland: Through The Looking Glass
Capn Frank replied to Israel Hands's topic in LEGO Pirates
Thank you for sharing Israel Hands. There were a lot of tall ships there. Were you able to tour any of the ships? It would be great to see some more close ups of the vessels. At our local Maritime Heritage Festival we usually get to tour at least one of the tall ships that come. Although, only one or two ships have been coming to our festival in the past few years. The best was in 2009 when there was three schooners and a sloop. -
There is a Help Topic where your questions may be answered. I can’t view member profiles How can I upload pictures of my creations to the forums?

I'm a Lego cannon hoarder. And I don't share them either. Kurigan does make a good point here. There are a lot of great ideas for brick built cannons, and if you're building on a prefab hull, smaller cannons would be more realistic. It's too bad brickshelf is down, you would be able to see Dunkleosteus' brick-built cannons in this topic. There's also the out-dated Cannon Index that still has some viewable thumbs. With brickshelf down, most of the links don't work.

Brethren of the Brick Seas?
Capn Frank replied to Admiral Croissant's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Just putting in my 2 Cents: There could be 3 Guilds Empires?, Red Coats, Blue Coats, and Armada could be used. If you want to be a Pirate, you have to be a Privateer for one of the two or three Colonial Empires to be all piratey against the another empire. If you're indiscriminate in your piracy, you could start a civil war of some sort. Colonies could be involved and may rise up against their empire and may find aid from another Empire to assist in the colonies cause then the colony could join that Empire if they succeed. Natives could have been taken over by an Empire and may act in a similar manner as colonists. Each Colonial Empire would then be comprised of Colonies, Pirates/Privateers, and Natives. Each small group could be their own Colony, Pirate haven, Native settlement, or any combination for a particular Empire. -
Touring an Actual Barquentine: The Peacemaker
Capn Frank replied to Capn Frank's topic in LEGO Pirates
No problem. I strive to be as realistic as possible in my Lego models (when I build Lego models ), so looking at historical sailing vessels like these help me to build more accurate ships. Apparently in her mind, every sailing ship is a pirate ship. Don't worry, the lashes will continue until she understands otherwise. -
That is a nice build, I was going to post this MOC on EB when I found it in this U.K. Poke article. Lots of great detail.

I just have to say, that roof peak on the right building is really well done. I am going to have to steal that idea for when I create my brick-built roofs.

Welcome back Hollibrick. Looks like I'm not the only old new member here. Only, I was able to get back into my account.

MOC French countryside train station (work in progress)
Capn Frank replied to mapimi's topic in LEGO Town
from mapimi's MOC pages Nice little MOC you've got there. The colors are great. I would change the black awning to tile or a curved slope brick.- 12 replies

Making a Lego death star out of an IKEA lamp
Capn Frank replied to joopsta's topic in LEGO Star Wars
You could use Kragle on some clone bricks to be attached to the lamp. Then, your Lego death star 'skin' could be a attached to the clone bricks. I don't know how you feel about attaching your Lego to clone bricks though. -
Very much agreed. Leeboards would get in the way of cannons on the military vessels, but could work nicely for the merchants.
-
Ok, you asked for it. I've been perusing through the Wiki Links Index for additional ideas and considerations. A redoubt could be used as a medium sized to small fort set. Most of the fortification is earthwork, which is Lego for BURP. Then, piece count is brought down, and the fort can be larger. Dutch merchant vessels ought to have Leeboards. Could make the Haven Guard vessels look very distinct from previous sailing ship sets. Smaller vessels necessarily do not have a steering wheel, but a very large tiller like on the Friends Good Will. Or the steering wheel could be facing backwards against the stern like on The Red Witch.

I understand I'm over a month late past the deadline. Hopefully some of these ideas can be added to the final report. I also know that some of my ideas have likely been repeated since I have primarily skimmed this topic before posting my (semi-)brilliant ideas. From watching set overview videos from set designers and seeing what almost all factioned themes include, I think as many sets as possible should include minifigs of at least smugglers and merchants or Haven Guards. It adds a constraint to sets, but I believe it also adds opportunity to diversify these recommended sets. A couple of pirate figs could be stealing loot at a small merchant town like Medieval Market Village or Mill Village Raid. Governor could be captured being taken from his house by pirates in the Governors mansion set. Merchant captain and his daughter captured on their own vessel or on a pirate vessel. Etc. I also don't think we need to be completely historically accurate to the golden age of sail for the dutch. We could focus more on freaken awesome ideas for sets that don't exactly relate to the dutch, but have never been done by TLG. Merchants and Smugglers Category 5 be the same set. It could be a small merchant vessel carrying cargo and light armament with a row boat of a couple of pirates. The set could then be slightly altered to include gun ports and large cannon armed to the brim. Maybe the set should be closer to a 6. My Gunboat thoughts: Large, snot, brick-built “row boat” 8-10 studs wide with a gaff rigged mast and a cannon in the back. Combination of this hull (with a flat bottom) and this rigging and only the rear gun. The actual set will likely have a hull that is smaller than either of these examples. It would be awesome if the largest pirate ship set was a xebec. Almost as long as the BSB, but only using 12-wide hulls with three masts each containing a large lateen sail. Build for speed so that the captain can run away from the larger Haven Guard flagship (Fluyt?) and easily overpower any merchant vessel. Small tower forts could be part of the Semaphore line with pivoting shutters on top. Small low forts with a cannon need only be a single Redan or V-shaped with the back open and the point to the sea. A merchant seaport will likely contain at least one such fort.

In order of importance: Pirates (no skelies) Wild West Ninja (not spinjitsu). Maybe even have as a pirate faction.

Thank you everyone. I'm still not a pickle, just a cucumber. It's nice to see back in the boards, sort of.

(from the festival website) I had went to Port Washington, Wisconsin's Maritime Heritage Festival, and took a self-guided tour of the Tall Ship Peacemaker. I figured I would post pictures of my tour to provide inspiration for more realistic MOCs that we construct. The vessel is a Barquentine Rigged vessel, and its interior construction is apparently based upon the Cutty Shark. Below are specifications of this vessel provided by the website for this vessel. Specifications Sparred length 158 feet Length Overall (LOA) 124 feet Length at Waterline (LWL) 104 feet Rig Height 123 feet Beam 33 feet Draft 14 feet Hull Structure Ipe ("Ironwood") Displacement 400 T Registration Georgia (USA) Rig Barquentine Sail Area 10,600 Square Feet Builder Maccarini Shipyard Navegantes, SC, Brazil Keel Laid 1986 Launched 1989 Here are some overview pictures of the vessel docked at Port Washington: Some images of the lower quarter deck. My three year old was with me with her stuffed parrot, which she thought was a good idea to bring to a pirate ship. Here are some images of the upper quarter deck. Here are some pictures of the rigging and sails Here's the helm, which is found inside a structure on the upper quarter deck In the last thumbnail just above, my daughter was heading to the captain's quarters. It's accessed from the lower quarter deck and is located at the stern. It contains all modern furnishings. Here are some pictures of the bow. And here's a close up of the bell. It's located on the fore/main mast. Well sums up my tour of the vessel, and none of you have to pay $6 per person for admittance.
