Ideas for new City sets

Recommended Posts

Hey guys-- new to the site and happy to be here. Actually I've been reading this site for years, and I'm sure you'll all be proud to know that although I found this place as a StarWars collector, it is my new fondness of the City sets that have finally inspired me to register!

So I've been reading this topic for a fairly long time as well, and now that I'm here I have to weigh in my thoughts. Going back to almost the first page, there was talk of a camping theme. Now, I know we have the lime green-accented camper and all that, but I'm thinking there's plenty of room there to work with.

I envision an entire series based off of a mountain lake retreat concept:

1. We could have a forest clearing where a pack of scouts are setting up camp for the night (and perhaps a bear wanders in to eat their frankfurters).

2. A fishing boat where perhaps father and son are looking for the big catch, complete with the fish or even an old tire for the boy to reel in.

3. A beautiful lakeside cabin complete with a small dock on the water, just the right size for my gold seaplane to be tied down to.

Naturally, it would need a few raccoons breaking into the garbage around back.

4. To top it all off, the main set for the series would be a forest ranger station with a rugged 4x4 parked in the driveway and a nice tower to inspect the surrounding forest. Bears, snakes, beavers, or perhaps even an otter or skunk would be nearby in the woods.

I'm sure there's more ideas that could branch off of this as well. It just seems that Lego has done quite a bit of beachfront holiday locations, but have never addressed the mountain concept. I'd certainly be interested, and could definitely see this being built into the outskirts of any decent Lego city.

Welcome to Eurobricks Mr. Elijah Timms

See? City dominates as the best theme, it brings us new members :grin:

Great ideas, we have discussed the possibility of a new "camping" sub theme before, based on the camper set we got last year.

New bear mold anyone?

Awesomebrick I like the idea about the supermarket maybe with a truck unloading around the back with the stock crew pulling some stuff off. But I really like that idea since I work at a supermarket. I dont know if anyone has said it or not but how about some new road plates with more then 2 lanes. Or how about a new t.v. crew, And how about some loggers.

Or they could use this one they already have.

Look at the colours on the wanted lists, we are not the only ones to have thought of this idea.

These are all great ideas!

A forest/mountain theme would indeed have a big potential to get a whole new theme (and not only one or two seperate sets):

forester's hut with all-terrain vehicle, forester, his wife, a lumberjack, two deer, gun and a lot of brick-built trees and plants (70 Euros)

lake camp with mountain landscape, tent, small hut, pontoon, all-terrain vehicle with trailer and small motor boat, bear, grandfather, grandmother and two grandchildren (50 Euros)

wood cutter and transporter with two lumberjacks and wood pieces (30 Euros)

poachers with pick-up with trailer, cage, trap, guns and bear (20 Euros)

ranger with quadbike (5 Euros)

hunter with gun, deer and tree (3 Euros)

wanderer with rucksack, shrub and guidepost (3 Euros)

Btw: I posted some ideas for a folk festival/fair theme already many pages ago here but didn't receive any feedback on it til now. :cry_sad: So would you like a fair theme? And if yes what do you think about my ideas?

Nice ideas for the fairground idea KD, though one wonders whether the "Candy Stall" could be based on 8398 BBQ stand... but with a second stand at the back...

The ferris wheel could be extremely similar to the Merry-Go-Round that was released last year in terms of qauntity of parts and price - especially without a sound brick!

Agreed! Part of the whole draw for me would be that there's so many different directions they could take this. I didn't even think of the lumberjack. Plus I think there's enough room in each idea to build up protagonist/antagonist scenarios and/or role-plays for the kids, which I'm sure Lego factors in when making decisions on any set.

I just REALLY want a little cabin on the lake, just outside the town-- maybe I'm living vicariously??

A new minifigure collection including a farmer would be great - but not as an Exclusive but similar to the regular sold City Minifigure Collection. Like following:

City Minifigure Collection 2

-farmer (blue torso) with hay fork and hay ball

-policewoman with warning vest and stop dipper

-civilian woman with shopping-bags

-civilian man with black/blue bicycle

-cypress tree and street lamp (from 7641)

What do you think?

Great idea 'Klaus-Dieter' , maybe not the farmer but a plumber with a good old spanner/screwdriver in one hand and a tap in the other.

What about a farm pack, with a farmer, a farm hand, digging tools, fencing components, parts to construct a water pump and a rotary tiller, plus a couple pigs or maybe they could produce a sheep eh ?

I'm a conformist! everyone ! :sweet:

To turn the conversation down a new avenue...

In light of the success and pending re-release of the Winter Toy Shop, I'd like to propose that TLG creates an entire subtheme of...

Holiday!!!

I've always thought this is lightning just waiting to strike, and the possibilities are endless. Some ideas:

1. First and foremost, the definitive Santa set complete with a dedicated reindeer mold (something that can accomodate a 1x1 round trans red for Rudolph's nose of course). Santa, the full team of deer, the sled, and whole slew of presents in the back. What kid-- no, what person-- wouldn't pay up for this????

2. The Christmas Tree lot-- lots of trees, lots of 'lights' on strings, perhaps a family loading their tree onto the roof with the generous salesman's help.

3. Santa in the Park-- a fair size 'outdoor' set complete with the community Christmas tree and a Santa's workshop structure where the kids are standing in line to talk to Santa. Go tell him you want that BB gun!

4. Holiday home-- a reasonable minifig-sized house all decked out in its holiday best. Kids are outside making a snowman, mom is inside baking her cookies, and of course we would have to throw in Dad hanging the lights on a ladder.

5. We've seen the carolers, but I'm sure we could all use a few more in a small set a la City Minifigs... They could also do holiday shoppers, etc.

6. How about the sledding hill-- lots of kids on old school wooden sleds, with maybe a skier or Gravity-Games era snowboarder thrown in for good measure.

6. Finally, the home run in the entire line would have to be The North Pole!!! Santa's home, complete with the workshop, the stalls for the reindeer, and good ol' Ms. Claus tidying up the place. And of course, it would have to include (Castle fans may now begin drooling) ELVES! Perhaps just a face mold, but maybe something more for the ears. And this set could surely invite additional add-ons such as Santa's runway, elves at work, etc. etc.

I'd REALLY REALLY REALLY like to add the idea of an old snowy stone church and/or nativity set, but sadly I admit it's a bit of a gamble for a corporation to go the religious route (although I know my brother's kids have a Fisher Price nativity set, BTW). Either set would be great and add so much to a full town display.

The other big hurdle would be the marketing-- how do you sell an entire line that is so focused on a single time of the year. Perhaps their best business plan would be to sell one or two yearly in the fourth quarter when you know it's so much easier to sell-- I just can't see them selling Santa's Sled in late April, but if it's released for a limited time after Halloween the demand would be extreme. Perhaps selling it periodically as a line could turn this into a collectible situation like the modular buildings. It could be marketed like those porcelain Christmas village lines carried in all the craft shops-- except infinitely better!!!

Thoughts?

I would like to see more civilian cars.

For example, take the 4x4 from the 4x4 and horse trailer set and sell that as a set (with a single minifig).

Or the yellow car as seen in the most recent Octan gas station.

Or other civilian cars that dont require purchasing large sets to get.

The Small Car is a good start but more are needed.

That's cool, but the policewoman should be replaced by a fireman. The 1st had a police man already.

How about a vintage town minifigures collection like this:

LEGO%2010101.jpg

I think (and hope) that it would be great if from TLG will get back the great Town theme, to us!

HOw about a draw bidge set? Or some kind of rasing bridge set. You can even include power functions to raise and lower the bridge. Could have the bridge, 2 civilian vehicles, a watch tower, and maybe even a mantiance vehicle.

How about including a rail section too in parallel to the roadway across said bridge, eh ?

Some different construction vehicles would be nice, a backhoe, bobcat, ashault layer, etc.,.

LEGO needs to get back to some retail sets. That McDonald's set they made in the 90s is very popular still.

Now if LEGO doesn't want to be seen promoting unhealthy food why not Subway?

Or make up their own, as seen in Airport Shuttle, the little Burger stand.

Basically a fast food set, a restaurant.

Other retail sets could be a LEGO store  (Hey we got the truck already)

I also liked the idea of the Apple Store
