    [MOC] TIE-Separator

A not-so-serious MOC made as entry for a BeLUG (Belgium Lego User Group) contest: here is my TIE-Separator: TIE-Separator by Veynom, on Flickr Yes, we had to use any brick separator as part of our MOC. I used 32 of the current orange version. This MOC ended up second out of 26 entries, behind an elegant green grasshopper.
  2. The Sienar Technologies board of directors did not really appreciate that Rothana Heavy Engineering - one of their direct competitors - started selling the Katyoucha variant of their TX-225 tank to the Empire. (see the full article from 3 years ago here). Clearly, by proposing a relatively cheap rocket-launcher, Rothana would start grinding some of Sienar's market shares. But Sienar did not waste time before reacting and quickly started their own project of a rocket-launcher for the Imperial Army. In order to remain competitive from the pricing side, Sienar took two important decision. First, the new design should reuse as many existing components as possible. This first decision quickly make Sienar look toward their TIE families and existing designs. The second decision was to use the same model of rockets as Rothana. This would allow the Empire not to change their ammunition supply chain and permit in theory to quickly swap the Rothana TX-225 Katyoucha by the future design from Sienar. The project resulted in a fast prototype delivery and the TIE-Calliope was released. It was based on the existing TIE-Crawler which was already in use inside the Imperial Army but on tope of the existing Crawler a rocket launcher was mounted. But Sienar did not mount any small rocket launcher. They designed a rocket launcher that could carry no less than 50 rockets! And the TIE-Calliope could fire these one by one, in salvo, or even all of them within a handful of seconds. Useless to that the the impact of such firepower on any target was devastating. On top of that, the noise produced by the rockets during their flight generated a frightening feeling on the receiver's end. Thanks to this impressive solution, Sienar could even develop a great commercial argument: the ratio between the firepower and the deployed man on the field is way above whatever any competitor can offer (and almost 10x higher than the Katyoucha ratio). Indeed, the TIE-Calliope is equipped with 50 rockets, 2 blaster canons, and one turbolaser canon while only requiring a single pilot. On the other side, the TX-225 Katyoucha is only equipped with 16 rockets and 4 medium blaster canons and requires 3 crewmen to operate. Definitively, Sienar knows how to market their products. TIE-Calliope by Veynom, on Flickr But enough of the historical speech and let's discover the beast: TIE-Calliope by Veynom, on Flickr TIE-Calliope by Veynom, on Flickr TIE-Calliope by Veynom, on Flickr TIE-Calliope by Veynom, on Flickr Both of them together: TIE-Calliope & TX-225 Katyoucha by Veynom, on Flickr Naturally, before creating the Calliope variant, I had first to build a TIE-Crawler. Here it is, without its launcher. TIE-Crawler by Veynom, on Flickr You can see the 2x3 plates inside the track module panels. They were intended to receive the rocket launcher. In the final version, these plates were moved backwards. After all, when moc-ing, it is all about doing and undoing, isn't it? TIE-Crawler by Veynom, on Flickr TIE-Crawler by Veynom, on Flickr For those of you following our Desert Wars project, the TIE-Calliope will replace the Katyoucha as of June 24. Have a thought for the poor Katyoucha. Katyusha! by Veynom, on Flickr Please note that neither the TIE-Calliope, neither the TX-225 Katyoucha appear in any Star Wars material. They are both designs I created, aiming to propose ideas that could exist in the Star Wars universe. And while the old TX-225 Katyoucha was based on a soviet rocket launcher truck from WW2, the TIE-Calliope is based on a M4 Sherman tank variant. In the end, it is quite common to derive Star Wars designs from WW2 materials. Comments welcome, hope you liked it. PS: in the end, the Imperial Army selected the AT-AT from Kuat to mass equip their forces. Sienar and Rothana only received minor orders.

    [MOC] TIE-Krykna

After the exhibition season, back to the bench and nothing better than a good old TIE variant to boost my creativity. Let's all hail the TIE-Krykna. TIE-Krykna by Veynom, on Flickr It is the improbable hybrid between a classic TIE-Fighter, an imperial or separatist walker, and a few Bionicle parts. Nightmarish, isn't it? TIE-Krykna by Veynom, on Flickr TIE-Krykna by Veynom, on Flickr TIE-Krykna by Veynom, on Flickr Inspiration came when after liking an internet meme mixing a TIE-Fighter cockpit with legs from a "Homing Spider" (set 75016). Just doing the same was too easy, and not stable enough to my taste. Besides, I had that bag of unused Bionicle parts received from a friend... The name "Krykna" was inspired by my wife who rightfully (Rule N2: Wifes are always right) told me that it can't be a TIE-Spider as spiders have 8 legs and my TIE-thing has only 6 of these. For a brief moment, I strongly considered re-engineering the entire MOC to include 2 more legs. Ultimately, I decided first to google for Star Wars spiders and found the Krykna. This horrible beast from SW Rebels was perfect. No need to rebuild everything, exit the TIE-Spider and long live the TIE-Krykna. Rebranding was less cumbersome. Note that I did not flinch when my wife spoke about "oh, no, not another TIE-thing!", because I remembered just in time about rule N1: Wifes are right. PS: for those who want to know rule N3: it is easy: 'In case of doubt, refer to rule N1".

    [MOD] TIE-Vidiyo

Here is my infamous TIE-Vidiyo. TIE-Vidiyo by Veynom, on Flickr TIE-Vidiyo by Veynom, on Flickr Built for a contest on the French BrickPirate forum where we had to pick up a Lego set that does not fly, and make it fly, whatever the way. I selected one of the Vidiyo boxes, slapped some TIE-wings on, added a pilot seat, engineered a system to prevent the cockpit from rolling around, and decided to use the soft handle as engine exhaust. My TIE-Vidiyo was born. And some people said the Vidiyo sub-theme would never take off...

    [MOC] TIE-Raptor

Probably my last MOC for this year, here lands the TIE/rpt or TIE-Raptor, along with a light maintenance platform to easily access it. TIE-Raptor by Veynom, on Flickr The TIE-Raptor is one of the many TIE variants. This one comes from the X-Wings book serie and is still part of the "Legend" universe. TIE-Raptor by Veynom, on Flickr It is easily recognisable thanks to its small wings in a cross-shape. The body is a classic TIE ball. TIE-Raptor by Veynom, on Flickr In order to display it easily in my imperial hangar bay, I've built a small maintenance platform that can also be used as display tand. Access & Maintenance Platform by Veynom, on Flickr Minimum service but the color code of the platform is aligned with the rest of my accessories. Furthermore, I did not want it to distract from viewing the TIE. Access & Maintenance Platform by Veynom, on Flickr This is so far my 14th TIE variant. The complete collection is available here.
  6. Here is my TIE-Droid (or TIE/D automated fighter) MOD, based on set 75300. TIE/D automated fighter by Veynom, on Flickr In the Star Wars expanded universe (Legends), the TIE Droid is a cheap automated fighter developed by the Empire in the Dark Empire comics. TIE/D automated fighter by Veynom, on Flickr When the 2021 version of the TIE-Fighter was released, I was first a bit disappointed because it was no more matching in size my large collection of TIE variants. But then I considered the TIE-Droid, which I imagine to have a slightly smaller cockpit ball. As I had a few of these 2x6 modified plates with studs on the side, I started building the TIE-Droid variant. TIE/D automated fighter by Veynom, on Flickr The resulting model is sturdy, swooshable and playable (as I kept the opening cockpit feature). The wings connections are solid but still easy to assemble and remove. TIE/D automated fighter by Veynom, on Flickr A small build but worth sharing as it allows us to complete our collection of TIE variants. TIE/D automated fighter by Veynom, on Flickr Free instructions for my TIE-Droid mod are available on rebrickable. Click, download, build, enjoy, and share your completed model back! Comments welcome.
  7. Note: this post has been edited to become a full story on its own, following some great feedback from BEAVeR. TIE-Lambda MKII by Veynom, on Flickr The TIE Lambda was a design from Sienar to cut costs, yet provide a vessel of similar quality to the standard TIE Fighter. It came about after the death of Emperor Palpatine at the Battle of Endor and the Empire was in disorder. Imperial Warlords through out the galaxy joined forces and created the NEO Empire. With this new beginning, it was decided to create new more powerful fighters to reek havoc on the New Republic forces, the Lambda was the first to go into production, intended to replace the TIE Fighter, it has a stronger hull and is faster than it's predecessor. The Cockpit or pilot's compartment is fitted with flight computers, communications, and life support. Either side of the cockpit from first glance still have the wing braces from the original TIE designs, but these in fact are shield generators. With a single wing, it is a maneuverable and tough variant of the TIE, but the design is reported to be a little uncontrollable within an atmosphere. Weaponry for the Lambda consists of two chin laser cannons. The first prototypes were delivered by Sienar and went through a thorough testing and approval programs under authority of Imperial Regulator BEAVeR. TIE-Lambda MKI by Veynom, on Flickr TIE-Lambda MKI by Veynom, on Flickr Following BEAVeR's detailed report revealing a few design flaws, Sienar provided several updates and improvements to the TIE-Lambda resulting in the release of a Mark II version by Sienar. TIE-Lambda MKII by Veynom, on Flickr TIE-Lambda MKII by Veynom, on Flickr The MKII version is now awaiting production approval from the Imperial Regulator. About this TIE-Lambda: This TIE is not canon and seems to come from the fandom universe, like the TIE-Torpedo Bomber. The 1st paragraph comes from http://galactic-voyage.com/Dark%20Side-Starfighters-TIE%20Lambda.htm. The MK2 version is storyfied based on the excellent feedback of BEAVeR. I found the missing black straight technic connector for the wings on my TS-4 Tow Speeder MOC. I could replace it with a a different type of connector. I could swap the 2 LBG technic connectors from the bottom wings thanks to the Catwoman bike from my son. I did not hesitate for long. The MKI cockpit was originally based on the cockpit of the official TIE-Fighter 75211 set. I had created the new wing and modified the ball cockpit to fix the new wing. However the MKII version is heavily modified with maybe only 20% of the original design. The resulting model is relatively sturdy with a limitation on the vertical axis where a single technic bar is used to link the cockpit to the wing and only friction keeps the wing attached to the cockpit when you take the TIE in your hand from the cockpit only. For the detailed list of differences, please refer to the below pictures: TIE-Lambda Version Comparison by Veynom, on Flickr I hope you enjoyed this model and the small story around it.

    [MOC] TIE Experimental M1

And here comes a rare variant from the famous TIE-Fighter, the TIE Expérimental M1 which first appeared in the old X-Wing Alliance video game. For this variant, the famous TIE concept is inverted: instead of having one pod surrounded by 2 wings, we have 1 central wing surrounded by 2 TIE cockpit pods TIE Experimental M1 by Veynom, on Flickr I used many bricks from the 75211 set as this set provides a good chunk of what I needed. The only real challenge was to create a sturdy double wing to support the 2 pods. TIE Experimental M1 by Veynom, on Flickr Once the wing is done, it is all about symetry but not completly still. TIE Experimental M1 by Veynom, on Flickr TIE Experimental M1 by Veynom, on Flickr And in the end, I get one more TIE variant: TIE Experimental M1 by Veynom, on Flickr And my collection of TIEs is growing: TIE-Separator by Veynom, on Flickr TIE/tb Torpedo Bomber by Veynom, on Flickr TIE-Emancipator by Veynom, on Flickr TIE-Defender by Veynom, on Flickr Uglies by Veynom, on Flickr TIE-Interceptor by Veynom, on Flickr TIE-Viper Profile View by Veynom, on Flickr I'm a true TIE-fan. :)
  9. Here is my latest MOC, a TIE/tb Torpedo Bomber, also known originally as Torpedo Launcher. TIE/tb Torpedo Bomber by Veynom, on Flickr Do not look for this TIE craft in any of the movies, anime, or comic books as you will not find it. It is based on the 3D model created in the early nineties par Marco SPitoni for his excellent animation fanfilm: " ". (Look from 27" and also in the credits)I then decided to build it using my bricks in order to complete and expand further my LEGO TIE collection. TIE/tb Torpedo Bomber by Veynom, on Flickr This side view shows the technic beam used to link the top wing to the TIE body. It provides structural strength and thanks to it, you can play with the TIE and replicate any kind of space combat. TIE/tb Torpedo Bomber by Veynom, on Flickr The rear side offers a view on an unusual feature for a TIE craft: the presence of 2 distinctive engines under the wing: TIE/tb Torpedo Bomber by Veynom, on Flickr TIE/tb Torpedo Bomber by Veynom, on Flickr Here is a shot at the wing global shape. Note that the middle section has built using an odd number of studs in order to respect the symmetry with the body and the support pylon. TIE/tb Torpedo Bomber by Veynom, on Flickr Front view depicting the torpedo launchers under the wing: TIE/tb Torpedo Bomber by Veynom, on Flickr And of course, it is on scale with other TIE sets. ;) Comments welcome.
  10. Here is a brick-built version of a MOC based on the MKI version of the excellent TIE-Emancipator from GuyDudeMan27. Compared to the original design, I made the following modifications: - The read body has been redesigned to be symmetrical; - Extra details have been added here and there; - Some color swapping depending on available parts in my stock; - Printed parts have been used for the cockpit or parts with stickers for other areas; - Wings supports have been re-enforced for playability & swoshability; - Some structural details were modified for sustainability and resistance to kids. (I know, resistance is futile) TIE-Emancipator by Veynom, on Flickr Front view ... nasty beast. TIE-Emancipator by Veynom, on Flickr A top rear view offering insight on the details. [MOC] LL-924 TIE Cruiser

Please read first the LL-924 & Variants article in order to discover 16 other variants. Following our previous articles about the famous LL-924 variants, more people sent us testimonies and pictures about additional variants that were so far totally unknown to the vast majority of our public. Today's version for this 3rd article in our serie is quite particular as only some files and schematics were found back in the archives of a company named Imagination & Lure Manufacturing (ILM) which went bankrupt since then. LL-924 TIE Cruiser by Veynom, on Flickr This variant, nicknamed TIE Cruiser, was to be used for a science-fiction movie but it looks like the project was abandonned at some point. The archives contained several artistics views aiming to demonstrate the LL-924 TIE Cruiser in action. LL-924 TIE Cruiser by Veynom, on Flickr LL-924 TIE Cruiser by Veynom, on Flickr The main characteristics of this so out of the ordinary version come from the wings that are uniquely placed on the sides of the ship, while still respecting the LL-924 so famous shape. LL-924 TIE Cruiser - wings details by Veynom, on Flickr The cockpit was also to be improved in order to match the expected standard of sci-fi production. LL-924 TIE Cruiser - cockpit by Veynom, on Flickr Sadly the ILM's archives did not mention the name of the movie for which this prototype variant was designed. Given the unfortunate fate of the company, it is probable that the movie project got cancelled or never met the expected success. All things considered, such design really deserved to fly through space. LL-924 TIE Cruiser by Veynom, on Flickr
