Location: H06 Farmolis Tags: Civil Building Previously... // PERSONAL DIARY // Raylan was really enjoying his visit to Farmolis. He said that it was nice to be able to visit other planets and see the different sights. He seemed very excited when I mentioned that there were several Octansoft stores in downtown Farmolis and that they had all the latest items available. And luckily being an executive I get a special discount of 5%, unlike the usual 2.5% discount for other employees. And since I have an Octansoft credit card I get an extra .5% discount! Although the folks in accounting do say that taking a discount isn't quite stealing from the company, but it does take money away from the company that it would otherwise use to pay hard workers such as myself. So I usually don't use the full discount. I took him to the one nearest to us and he was very excited to see all the various Individual Personal Assistant Devices and other electronics. It was neat getting to see the various assistant robots too, Dr. Allison was most intrigued by the child sized model as it was brand new. I was surprised they had a chauffeur-bot in stock since there was a new version that everyone was going crazy for. I have to say it was a bit weird seeing some of the "fashion" that exists for the younger generation these days. Whatever neo-hip style they seem to be wearing just looks strange. I was a little embarassed to have Raylan see them as I felt it reflected poorly on Octan. But I think he was distracted by the various Octansoft offerings to not have noticed them too much! Location: B05 Marphacia Tags: Land Vehicle, Spying So what information are we trying to get out of them sir? We need to know if they detected the massive explosion we caused the other day. If the Kawashita seismology lab didn’t detect the explosion, we’ll know the GATE field expanded ahead of the explosion and stopped the information leaking out. If so, we have a functioning cloaking device, we'll just have to fine tune the stabilisers. Couldn’t we just ask them if they detected it? No! If we just ask them if they’ve detected any explosions recently, they’ll know we’re up to something. We have to persuade them to tell us, preferably without even realising we’re from M.A.N.T.I.S. That’s why we’re in this Kawashita boat! Exactly. And it has to be a row boat so it doesn’t upset their seismology instruments. No point annoying them before we even get there. And you have to be here to do the rowing… I see the lab sir! Good work Stevens, bring us in. Now, this is probably going to take a lot of natural charm and quick wits, and you don’t have a persuadomatic spy suit, so let me do all the talking. It could be very difficult to get the information out of them, so prepare to witness some incredible spying. Yes sir! Ok, here goes. I guess I’ll knock on the door. Location: H06 Farmolis Tags: Land Vehicle Previously... // PERSONAL DIARY // After having several productive days getting to know Raylan on Forring, I had decided that to further improve the relationship between our two corporations I should invite him to Farmolis. Initially he was a bit apprehensive as there was a certain amount of worry that there could be some nefarious reason for wanting to get him to our home planet. But after more discussion and assurances he finally agreed to pay a visit. Upon his arrival I picked him up from the spaceport in one of our luxury corporate transports and had ED-208 drive so I could concentrate on our guest. As we drove around the city I was able to point out various landmarks and talk about all the things Octan was doing. Raylan was excited to hear and he found numerous areas that our two corporations could successfully collaborate. I'm excited to show him around further! All tests showed negative. I had been drugged nightly with an amnesia inducing compound, and my drone had been hacked. End of story. The remainder of the investigation must take place outside a lab, if my captors are to be brought to justice. And to those ends I have enlisted the assistance of one of my most trusted, and loyal colleagues. I hope he can find those responsible... and ... perhaps even... dare I mention... the object I've seen... only in dreams of that place... the enclosed place... the hexagonal walls... the map. In the early days, Farmolis Headquarters City performed all aspects of Awesomnium production: Extraction, Purification, and Shipping... but now Farmolis city has taken on a more Administrative role, and serves as the planet's port city, and center of Octan colonization in Andromeda. Texicana Station is the primary purification site, and so, this pipe channels a constant stream of pure, fuel-grade Awesomnium to Farmolis Headquarters' Shipping district. These access roads run the whole length, as does the canal of naturally occurring liquid Awesomnium... but I'm not riding nearly that far. Just as far as Kilometer Marker 17. At approximately 7:45 am, I arrive at this point and begin riding back... but not before I indulge my intellect a little." The densest packed, most nutritious, strongest, GM EthiCORN ™ is grown here. The fields stretch to the horizon, and are almost entirely regulated by machines, who conduct all the hydration, pesticide dispersal, harvesting, etc... it's deliciously efficient.... however, on my daily rides, I've noticed a local specimen of Xenobotanical nature that seems to have developed an immunity to Octan's pesticides... it is an interesting find; a novel xenobotanical specimen on the planet longest occupied by our force. Location: F03 Forring Tags: Land Vehicle, Space Vehicle Previously... // PERSONAL DIARY // As I was conversing with Professor Fizzlebottom on one of the above ground landing platforms the Farr-tes use I received quite the shock when a Mantis pilot stepped out of a spacecraft and began talking to Dr. Grenouille-Cheveux. As it turns out Octan wasn't the only corporation to have interaction with the Farr-tes. Apparently Mantis was providing fuel to the Farr-tes at barely above cost to help them with all the people they take in. Despite being such a militaristic corporation, Mantis apparently saw the benefits the Farr-tes and their more peaceful, inclusive society offered. I was introduced to the pilot, Raylan Givens, and he seemed very nice. I asked about his spaceship since it hardly seemed standard Mantis issue. Apparently it was his personal ship and he had recently completed an engine upgrade. Where before his ship was a comfortable cruiser, he had removed the original engine and fitted it with a Mantis Class B cargo hauler engine which more than tripled the power. He said it made getting around a rather fun ordeal now. I was surprised that a logistical supply officer would personally oversee the transfer of the fuel canisters, but he said that it gave him a break from sitting behind a desk. The Farr-tes hover truck was sleek looking and I was surprised that it looked so sporty. Professor Fizzlebottom explained that they based a lot of their vehicles around a common design and altered it based on need. This one was made narrow to allow for use underground where space was an issue and that it could either be used to carry heavier loads as it was currently, or if it was lightly loaded it could achieve high speeds as a speeder. An impressive solution to the need for different purposes in their vehicle fleet. Raylan summed it up when he said: "They are a most clever bunch, we learn from them constantly." Yes, yes, I know Kawashita makes money off the registration fees and takes a commission on the gambling, but if the Space Police ever busted you, Kawashita would disavow any knowledge of this. Location: B05 Marphacia Tags: Land Vehicle, Science Note to judges: Only the scenes with the swamp speeder should be judged, the rest re-use my build from last week. I’m just worried after what happened last time. Ah, but last time we didn’t have the expert advice of Ensign Stevens. He’s part of Moose’s team so he’s up to date with all their latest findings. Isn’t that right, Stevens? Err, well… Excellent! Plus, I’ve completely redesigned the stabiliser architecture. Speaking of which, where the hell is Redsyn with the last stabiliser? I’ll give him a call. Redsyn! Where are you? I'm having a little difficulty with the natives. Well, hurry up, will you? I’m getting bored here. Yeah, I’ll try. Some time later… ...and I usually play as Mitgardia. Redsyn! What’s the hold up? Trouble with the locals. Still?! Different ones this time. Unbelievable. Right, let’s just go ahead with three stabilisers. What?? It’ll be fine. We almost had it right last time with four stabilisers, but these new ones are a lot stronger. We could probably even manage with two. What do you think, Stevens? Err, well… Exactly! Norton, activate the stabilisers. Activating stabilisers! Sal, I just did some calculations, and going from fourfold to threefold stabilisation symmetry is likely to decrease the discontinuity threshold by at least seven orders of magnitude! Good point! Norton, only initialise the GATE drive once Stevens and I are a safe distance away. I promised Moose I’d get Stevens back to him in one piece. Wait, what?? Voices….Oh, it’s been far, far too long my friends…. The…Trial went south…at least I’m not de-e-ad… They were…arguing over me after pleading insane… And Mantis didn’t care…but they sent assassins…They missed… Kawashita tried experimenting on me….They ah…”Fixed” me… They fixed me! Thanks for reading this new installment in Beltar’s story, bet you all barely remember the other parts of my story! Well, go catch up on this convoluted mess if you wish, and as a note, I’m back in business, but builds won’t be frequent. Basically, Beltar is still screwed right now and still a loose cannon! Location: F03 Forring Tags: Land Vehicle, Space Vehicle, Civil Building, Science Previously... // PERSONAL DIARY // While Dr. Allison and I were taking a tour of one of the Farr-tes advanced scientific research facilities we were awaiting the return of ED-208. He had received a full overhaul and we were told to expect him via one of the mini-ships Octan uses for robot delivery. The ships aren't very spacious and lack food and restrooms, but they are very efficient and reusable. The lab was very advanced and had access to vast computing power. In one of their experiments they were superheating Awesomnium into a gas to see how it behaved and then were going to try combining that with other elements to see what the result was. Mike was working in the small updraft lab which prevented any vapors from escaping without being hermetically sealed. They weren't running any experiments at the moment so he was able to show off the lab and the various features. I'll definitely have to make sure we get some like this installed on the Axle! Location: B05 Marphacia Tags: Science Are you sure this will work? Oh, yeah, totally. Moose’s team has been messing around with this stuff for a while. They’re off testing it out near Donwarr as we speak. You mean it hasn’t been tested yet? Uh… it probably has? I kinda just skimmed Fields’s notes: superpositions, n-dimensional singularities, certain death, blah blah blah. Anyway, I figured if we can create a stable hollow GATE field around a ship, the field should transport all incoming or outgoing signals through the GATE, meaning that the ship will be undetectable. But couldn’t we wait until Moose’s team has finished their tests first? And let them get all the credit? No chance! GATE stabilisers equalised at 100% Sal. Excellent. Ok, you ready Walker? I guess…? Ugh, it stinks here Sal. Why did we have to do this in the middle of a swamp on a planet we haven’t even settled yet? Blame Chief Accountant Long. I wanted to do this on Torresta but Long got all upset about it just because the risk assessment said there was a small chance of a catastrophic Rhumkopf discontinuity. She insisted we do it out here where no one will notice if we implode a continent. What was that?! Nothing! Fire it up! It worked! We can’t see her! Err… but shouldn’t we not be able to see the GATE drive too? Hmmm… Switch off the drive and see if she comes back. Nooo! Where is she?? Calm down. Location: F03 Forring Tags: Land Vehicle, Space Vehicle, Civil Building Previously... // PERSONAL DIARY // The Aeolus recovered the Octan ship and were able to retrieve the pilot. Sadly the pilot wasn't in great shape. Physically he seemed relatively ok, but mentally he was struggling. As an executive of Octan I was quite concerned with his health and safety, Dr. Allison seemed interested in him as a test case. Based on logs we determined his name was Joel Zimmerman, however, all he would say is "Can you hear the screams?" The Farr-tes said it seemed likely that he had developed a minor case of Spontaneous Space Madness. They said that with some sedation and rest he would most likely be fine. Luckily they had human medical knowledge and a facility on planet that could help him. We have already been fortunate to have an alliance with them! Extra Pics:

Location: F03 Forring Tags: Land Vehicle, Space Vehicle, Civil Building, Science Previously... // PERSONAL DIARY // We were taken to the Farr-tes main engineering research facility on Forring to see some of their newest projects. It was an exciting time as we were given complete access and were able to ask any questions we wanted. The Farr-tes are a very open and forthcoming people, they really don't hold back. Dr. Allison was looking at one of their new energy producing units that is still under construction. She seemed very impressed and I could see from the twinkle in her eye that many new ideas were forming. I can't wait to hear what she came up with. She had already seen their mobile graviton detection "cart". It was on a track that lead to an isolation room which allowed for the sensitive equipment to more finely tune into detecting the particles. I was being given a chance to look over their magnetic impulse engines used primarily in smaller vehicles. Because they were non-polluting it meant that they were best suited for their underground existence. The power output was strong, but the main draw was the instant high-torque. Even the waste heat was fairly small and easily managed. One issue they were trying to overcome was that the units did malfunction sometimes and end up in a runaway situation. The good news is that the characteristic hum would suddenly get very quiet, so you knew it could get deadly if they went silent. Sadly our visit was cut short as we were notified that the Farr-tes Regional Transport Ship Aeolus had informed the local Farr-tes naval control that a distress signal had been detected from an Octan ship. We were given access to a communication device and the message was the standard Octan distress signal for our smaller ships: "Greetings, this automated message is from Octansoft on behalf of Octan Pilot. It appears there has been a problem and currently there are zero pilots able to command the ship. We are requesting your assistance in rendering aid. Thank you and have an Octan day!" Extra Pics:

Location: C03 Torresta "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to this airborne tour of the M.A.N.T.I.S. Volcanic Research Centre. I'm sure most of you arrived here today by taking the monorail east out to this outlying area of The Core. This volcano is one of many that provide geothermal power for The Core, and you can see two power stations at the foot of the volcano, to the west of the main landing tower. The pipelines you see leaving the power stations provide both power and water to settlements all over Torresta! To the east of the landing tower you can see a large building with four biodomes. This is where M.A.N.T.I.S. scientists use the natural underground heat to research rapid plant growth. One day soon you may be eating vegetables grown in as little as a few hours using techniques discovered here! The four buildings you see in a row at the front of the centre are various laboratories. On the roofs you can see amplified radar, solar panels, a greenhouse and a landing pad. These laboratories are personally overseen by Big Sal, M.A.N.T.I.S.'s Chief Scientist! Oh! Speaking of which! Look down on the platform of Volcano Monorail Station. Unless I'm very much mistaken, that's Big Sal himself, talking to an elderly lady. What a treat for you all!" Thanks for reading! One of the most frequently visited and photographed places on Farmolis is the main park downtown. It is mostly known as "The Park", but the official name is Octan's Spirit of Exploration Park. The park itself is lovely and the grounds meticulously maintained, but the attraction most people come for is Goldie. At least that is what the locals call him, he is an embodiment of Octan's vision to explore the universe and with his stern expression is ever looking forward. His spear points to where he is going, with his shield ever at the ready. The beautifully polished black lava rock provides a stark contrast to the gold. Below the base are windows into the water that provides life for the flowers that give a natural version of Octan's colors. Lit up at night it is visible from quite a ways off. The soothing sounds of nature surrounding Goldie provide for a nice environment to contemplate Octan's mission. Some have complained that the status is ostentatious and not a good representation of Octan's values, but I prefer to think of it as a shining beacon drawing ever more explorers forth to wonder what is out there. Our winged champion is on constant vigil for what is next.

Sliding in before the deadline... Haven't had the time to build for AG recently, but I was pretty happy with how this turned out, especially since it only got started a few days ago! I would've liked to clean up/furnish the interior better, particularly to add a bed and TV, but that's life I guess. C&C welcome!

It's much bigger than this. What?? He can't possibly afford property on Earth! Oh yes he can. He's very successful. But he's never too busy to remember my birthday, unlike some people. Oh boy...
