Wow, what a fantastic idea! Love how you tied the two themes together... So the airless "moon" with the soft, sandy surface on Classic Space packaging was Tatooine all along! Brilliant!!! And here they are, examining the fossilized remains of the Sarlacc... And possibly Boba Fett as well (or did he survive?). The execution is flawless, of course, but I'm blown away by the idea. :) Aw, can't an exception be made in this case? I'd hate for the SW fans not to see this! :(

Enough with the trans-yellow and grey talk, that's not the ONLY Classic Space colour scheme - this is great as is! It really compliments the Galaxy Commander and All-Terrain Vehicle... I have one of these myself, but I think it's missing a few key pieces. Still need to hit up Bricklink and replace 'em. :)

Oh man... a set that pricey just to get one green Futuron guy? Yeah, I'd do it... but a part of me kind of hopes it's not true. At least it'd be a fun set, though.

Ooh, if these were somehow Earth-based Classic Space sets, I would have a reason to be excited! It's funny - looking back on 2014, the Exo-Suit and Benny's SSS were enough to get me pumped about LEGO again! As it stands, I don't know... As you say, this sounds like a pretty big long shot but even the chance that a shuttle could be more blue/trans-yellow than white and black gives me goosebumps!

To legomr, I wouldn't worry so much about Classic Space being "overrepresented". It lasted much longer than pretty much every other line, didn't? #497 / #928 Galaxy Explorer #6980 Galaxy Commander #6984 Galactic Mediator #5974 Galactic Enforcer #6954 Blacktron Renegade Something about the #6985 Cosmic Fleet Voyager just doesn't quite do it for me... Maybe once I get this in hand I'll change my mind, though! The #6973 Deep Freeze Defender gets an honourable mention from me as well... I was tempted to put it on the list, but it's design is so influenced by the Galaxy Commander that it just seemed weird having both there.

That's a really good point, actually. Maybe the real solution here is just to let boys play with what they want - which sometimes includes Barbies and what not! There is still a HUGE stigma attached to that sort of thing. Heck, I keep eyeing that Friends yacht... ;) -

I dunno. As the father of two girls, I don't think I'd have a problem with them having a few Friends sets... but I think I'd still rather have the majority of their collection be "regular" Lego. I don't want them to be inundated with "girls' toys", which admittedly ARE a bit sexist - including the Friends line. It's all good in moderation, though. Also, I think everyone needs to remember that this is a Cracked article - nothing to get too worked up over, here. :) -

Yeah, a bit too thin on top, I think. Also, the design of the Alien from the first film would really benefit from more of SNOT approach. This looks a bit more like the ones from the second film, what with the ridges and all - which is not a bad thing! :)

Well... Maybe it's as simple as the fact that all the SW sets have clear or trans-black canopies? Easier and cheaper since they are already in production, maybe. I too would like more trans yellow and trans blue!

I really like the space station, but I think it works just fine in minifig-scale, as a little satellite. :)

The hubs. I had to get a bunch on Bricklink and even some of them had little cracked. I don't know how widespread it is but it looked to me like age/storage/temperature plus a tight fit might be a potential issue...

Yup, great little set. We should have more of these types of threads... Actually, I could start a couple - I've restored quite a few CS sets recently, including this one. Those wheels, in particular, are prone to cracking!
