A deceptively simple build. I love its name and the face on the front. -
[MOC] Pull-back Toyota TS050 LMP1 car, my first real moc
davidroberts01341 replied to Vectormatic's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I really like this. The pull-back motors are fun and strong. I bought a couple of the sets to see if they could be used for other things (but failed!) I like the neat, minimalist bodywork, with some nicely chosen pieces that suggest the whole shape. From your description, I can imagine Toyota returning to Les Mans next year with a car powered by a giant spring. I suppose that they'd have to pull it back around the entire course to wind it up first! -
Olive Speedster (Not inspired for a name!)

This looks great. The stretched nose definitely gives a sleeker, faster look to this muscle car of a spaceship. Nice blocks of colour and a good cockpit too. -
Your comments made me laugh out loud: thank you! I agree that keeping this vehicle on the ground would be quite a challenge. Perhaps if the driver eats a very heavy lunch before driving, it might act as ballast? Attempting to be a spectator would probably be more dangerous than actually driving this vehicle. I think that watching it would best be done on TV from camera drones.Kart? To be honest, yes! This vehicle does share a lot with what you often see on "soap box derbys".

Thank you! Here's a photo of the innards being serviced. They're not that ornate I'm afraid, as the focus for me was the hull/exterior.Turbine Dragster by David Roberts, on Flickr

Thanks! I agree, it does look rather like a whale, with its huge mouth scooping everything up in front of it. I find it difficult to build with triangular shapes too, mainly because of the problems of filling them or putting lids on them with Lego, which is mainly square shapes (of course ) or has triangular plates that aren't the triangles you're looking for (like droids). The engines on this vehicle were an easy solution to the problem, as they didn't have to fit/fill the corners of the shape precisely.

I think that this is far better than the first thing that I built after my dark age. Yes you could swap the lime green for blue to get the Classic Space look but your ship would fit neatly into Pico ven Grootvelt's Tequilatron: https://flic.kr/ps/2Hd7gy Keep on building and keep on having fun!

External Resources used when Building

I find Wikipedia great for finding out how mechanisms work. This website is brilliant for inspiration for strange amd imteresting vehicles: http://www.unusuallocomotion.com -
I saw this on the Frontpage and immediately thought how good the chandelier would be for swinging on during a Pirate fight, just like in the films.

8416...is it worth getting?
davidroberts01341 replied to Richard Dower's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The Lego Car Blog did a review of all of the Lego forklift sets a while ago. Hope it's a useful link: https://thelegocarblog.com/2014/03/04/fork-off/ -
Which set do you love to rebuild, and why?
davidroberts01341 replied to andrewganschow's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I occasionally rebuild 8860, or at least dig the instruction book out and leaf through it. It was the BIG Technic set of my childhood, back in the days when sets stayed in the product line up for years and you could hope to get them for several birthdays and Christmases in a row. I'm also impressed by the functions, given the limited parts palette compared with nowadays and the strength of the model. http://brickset.com/sets/8860-1/Car-Chassis -
I like how this machine is contained within those "cages" of Technic axles and joints. It reminds me of deep-sea exploration equipment, which seems very appropriate for a space drilling rig too.

[MOC] The Bug Runner
davidroberts01341 posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
NEW from Llwyngwril Systems: an innovative high speed solution to all of your rough terrain personal transport problems! Bug Runner by David Roberts, on Flickr Bug Runner Film by David Roberts, on Flickr I hope that this little MOC contains enough Technic and isn't too silly for this forum. On a vaguely serious engineering note; I'd be very interested in any suggestions that experienced Technic builders might have for replacing the cams that I've used. They're 1x2 45deg slope bricks. After long-term use, they detach from the Technic connectors with studs that attach them to the big gear. I'd like to build a motorised model using this technique but the current cams won't sustain it. Any ideas please? -
So I found a mint Galaxy Squad 70705 Bug Obliterator.. Should I buy it

The Brickpicker blog/website is all about prices and values of Lego sets, so it might be a good place to look too: http://www.brickpicker.com/ -
[MOC] The Bug Runner
davidroberts01341 replied to davidroberts01341's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thank you! I love whimsy and curiosities too. I suppose that I might eventually build a Technic supercar but I'll probably get distracted on the way... Thank you. Building and publishing LEGO models has forced me to improve my photography skills and my understanding of how cameras work. It's been a great benefit for my job too, so messing around with LEGO has had some good outcomes in the real world too! -
A gorgeous bit of Classic Space. I've just noticed your use of those red "gear box" cogs on the front tracks. I own some but don't build Technic gear boxes, so they've been relegated to being of no use in my mind, until now.

[C-MODEL] Snow Groomer
davidroberts01341 replied to Wiseman_2's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I spend my winters working as a ski instructor, so I see a lot of these machines. I think that you've got the shape and proportions spot on, especially considering you've limited your palette of parts. I like the neatly built functions, which are just the ones that I'd want if this was an official LEGO set. I also agree with other people who've commented here: I think that this looks far better than the "A" model!- 35 replies

[MOC] The Bug Runner
davidroberts01341 replied to davidroberts01341's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Oh yes! Such an obvious solution. I build quite a lot in LDD, when I'm away from my bricks in the winter. As the inverted 1x2 slope has a solid stud (along with the hollow one) on top, LDD won't let you attach it to the pins holes in the gear and my brain has become wired that way too. I tried your suggestion in real bricks and it's a rock-solid connection: thank you! -
If you mean LEGO's original version from 1975, I had it as a kid! http://brickset.com/...m/sets/367-1 I totally agree, this version is miles ahead

davidroberts01341 replied to Edwin Korstanje's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'm new to Eurobricks but I've been on MOCpages and Flickr for a while. I'm best known for colourful spaceships but my vehicles often feature Technic mechanisms and Power Functions motors, so I'm hoping to get involved in this forum and the Sci-fi one too. By way of introduction, here's my workspace, in the loft of my house. It gets incredibly hot in the summer and very cold in the winter! For all 4 decades of my LEGO building, I've always sat on the floor to build: I don't think that I could find a big enough table to spread everything out on. I take my photos downstairs, on my kitchen table, whose gnarled surface is gaining its own following on Flickr. -
What a great machine. I'm a big fan of strange space transport and think that this is a super example. I like how the driver is attached to machine, so that he can't tumble off. As for his expression, that others have commentrd on here, well that's just the calm smile of an unflappable Classic Spaceman!

A great looking model, both in terms of its design and how you've rendered it. I like all of the detail on the upper module. Does the upper module detach for the return fight?

RC Rowing Boat
davidroberts01341 replied to uefchen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That's brilliant! I've experimented with various types of unusual locomotion for land vehicles and have tried a couple of times to make a rowing vehicle. I've never beem brave enough to risks my PF stuff in a boat on water though. I think that this is an inspiring and supremely fun MOC!
