    [MOC] C-3PO mid-size

Thank you. Nice analysis. I am glad to see that you enjoy some particular details liek the angled battery. For some particular details, I had to use cuted hoses like for the shoulder. One important thing is also to get light arms so that the friction at the shoulder can hold it. I agree, the straight horizontal rim has to be improved : I will try mudguard or more simply curbed slopes. For the torso panels, I don't know because I want to avoid studs to appear. I am not sure to see what you are meaning : which v-shapes part do you mean and how do you suggest to use the cheese grates (part 61408, isn't it) ? Why not but C-3PO is based on a human with 5 fingers per hand not like Jar Jar who has only 4 : the 5 fingers contribute to reinforce its "humanity". I think it is not possible to include the dot because I need the open stud of the jumper to fix the minifig hands. And for the faint v-shape, I have nothing to fix it. This is the limit of such a size : you do not have too much possible attachments and you have too choose which element fits the best and sometimes, you have to drop some details. I don't think that this could be done because the face is only 3 studs, 3 studs high and 2 plates are allowed for the thickness. The bolts are an element I tried to include but I finally gave up because of the need to include a 14704 1x2 plate for fixing the head to the torso which takes to much room. On the contrary, I like to have an honest feedback and suggestions for possible improvments. This is another reason for which I made the instruction because it is essential to see the inner build. As you know certainly, first we are looking for a shape, then a colour and finally how to fix it : this is a similar challenge to the REC where we are in competition but I think I am not really a potential winner . Thanks. However, for personnal reasons, I have decided to no more participate to the TechLUG Star Wars contest. So, my next Star Wars MOC will nothing have to do with Kashyyyk, sorry. It took me 7 weeks to build the nectar and 7 weeks for C-3PO : it looks like one MOC every 2 months. I am now "working" on a very high speed train and an Architecture Building. So, I would say that the next Star Wars MOC will come for the end of this year. Thank you for having blogged it.

    [MOC] C-3PO mid-size

Some remarks concerned the head which was not found very nice because of its too large mouth and the too squared face. With the help of oeuf_en_gelee from the HFR french forum, I propose you an alternative head. What do you think about this new head ?

  7. The nectar of the Sarlacc and the escape of Boba Fett Complete overview of the MOC. (Sarlacc's Nectar by Dan_Sto, on Flickr) (Pictures are link to large images). One week ago, the youngest jawas of the crew exploiting the distillery has started to work into the unit production. Like the two other members of the crew, he belongs to Tteet Kkak's (his father) clan who sold the Rancor to Jabba. During his whole life, he will ever remember the slow going down from the sandcrawler into the distillery, using the hatch into the sand near the great pit of Carkoon, allowing to discover the marvelous concrete vault covering the whole production unit. Sarlacc side view of the MOC with open hatch. Concrete vault supporting the dessert sand and covering the production unit. After having reach the upper level with its metallic floor, he could discover the two other levels accompagned by the two other jawas who will working with him for the forthcoming weeks. Upper level with a rest/kitchen/lunch section and the bottles and barrels stock. At the lower level is the large basin where the disgestive juice of the Sarlacc is collected and filtered before being injected into the distillation still of the middle level in order to produce the nectar from the juice's neurotoxine. Lower level with the basin and the filter of the disgestive juice. Middle level with the distillation still and the chemistry "laboratory". Indeed, it is here, at a few meters appart from the Sarlacc and in the greatest secret, that one of the magnificent drink of the universe is produced. It has even been served on Coruscant to the well known Obi-Wan Kenobi Jedi master where it is called "Jawa juice". On Tatooine, it is called the "Nectar of the Sarlacc". Some other pictures of the whole MOC from the side of the Sarlacc (the vignettes are links). Some other pictures of the whole MOC from the side of the still (the vignettes are links). Some other pictures of the different levels (the vignettes are links). The story of the discovery of the caves and of the oozing wound into one of the stomach of the Sarlacc by a forefather of our young jawa has nearly been forgotten and is only related by the shaman of the clan. It seems that a metallic part buried deep into the sand injured the Sarlacc during its growth and has done a small hole into one of its upper stomaches. The acid digestive juice oozing from the wound during a long period has dug a tunnel up to a large cave which had a crack going to the surface. This crack, which has been discovered by the forefather, is todays used as emergency exit. The recipe of the segregation of the juice in order to get the nectar, the most important secret of the clan, has been improved over generations of jawas and has now reach its excellence level. Each nectar botlle is extremely valued and the nectar is at the origin of the prosperity of the clan. Working into the distillery is like an initiatory path for young jawas. Indeed, living during weeks with the legendary Sarlacc being so near and feeling it; alters definitively the perception of the animal when the initial fear becomes respect. During a rest period of our young jawa, an unsual event occured at the surface. Our young jawa studying chemistry. Some small explosions followed by a final loud one could be heared during several seconds. Such kind of trouble is not really surprising because Jabba used to proceed to public executions by drowing people into the mouth of the Sarlacc for sufferiing centuries of slow digestion into its stomach. But, the good point was a higher digestive juice production by the Sarlacc. A few hours latter, the new of the jabba's death into his barge explained what happened earlier. Next day, another unwanted event occurs : for the first time, a victim of the Sarlacc could escape from the stomach by the wound used for recolting the juice. Seeming hopeless, Boba discovers a strange hose into the stomach. Following the hose, Boba reached the wound and escaped from the Sarlacc. The oldest jawa of the crew had the surprise to find an armored man having survived to the Sarlacc and lying into the basin of the digestive juice. Seriously ill, Boba reaches the tunnel leading to the basin. Surprise ! An armored man has polluted the juice. The jawas decided to cure the man who was seriously physically and mentaly ill (he has even lost his hairs) first at the lower level and finally at the upper one. The whole crew was needed to get the man out of the basin. Boba curing behind the filter. The jawas helping him to reach the upper level. Its long. Ending his cure at the more confortable upper lowel. Boba giving some help to the preparation of the bottles. The inspection of the armor revealed that the man is Boba Fett, the well known bounty hunter who worked for Jabba and famous for the capture of Han Solo.He is also known has being a man of honour. Judging that having Boba as an ally would be a benefit for the clan, the leader of the clan decided to let him free after complete recovery with the condition that he will never reveal the secret of the distillery. Last view into the distillery by Boba : Good bye, my little friends. It is now one year ago that Jabba has been killed and our young jawa will pleasantly meet Boba again at the celebration of the first annual tribute to Jabba. But, this is another story. Some more pictures (the vignettes are links). The MOC (or the DarkSide of the Sarlacc). The MOC is based on 5 major modules making a tower based on a 32x32 baseplate and reaching a height of 70 cm. : 1. The lower level: . 2. The middle level: 3. The upper level . 4. The topmost module : These 4 modules form the non-animal part of the MOC : 5. The stomach: I hope you enjoyed my version of Boba's escape from the Sarlacc. This MOC has been done for the 13-th Star Wars contest of the TechLUG forum where you can found a more detailled french description.

  10. Thank you for your enthusiastic answers . I think not. This MOC has been done mainly for supporting a story. Another point, it has been done for a contest with a base limitation of 32x32. Of course, the nectar produced during this period is "the Boba's cuvée" . Thank you. For the lower floor, I do not use 1x1 cylinders but this technique : Stone floor by Blake Foster, on Flickr No, but I have a good stock (it was hot for the brown/reddish brown one). Thanks. The story is not canon but comes from my brain. You know, I was a teenager when the first movies came out and Star Wars has always stimulated my imagination.

    Middle Earth Contest Voting Topic

    My votes : Category A: #3 #4 Category B: #1 #4 Category C: #3 #4
  13. For the 12-th TechLUG Star Wars contest, I have build a modular armored troup transport All-Terrain Dewback-Transport (AT-DT). INTRODUCTION The goal of the contestis to build an All-Terrain walker inspired by the morphology of a Dewback restricted to a total length of 48 studs. I decided to participate after having imagined to use the tail as a toboggan to deploy the clone soldiers. In order to get a more easy to build model and to have more playability, I built it in a modular way. THE BASIC MODULES Schematically, the walker is divider into 3 modules connected by a standardized fixation using pins; each module having its own energy source contained into multicolour cylinders. 1. The forward module consists in the cockpit head, the forward section of the body holding the forward legs. The large windscreen (taken from a Slave One) insures maximal visibility for the pilots without having to move the head to much. Even if the AT-DT is not an offensive engine, it is lightly armored with laser canon located at the eyes and at the tongue which includes also a flamethrower. The pilots can be easily taken out of the cockpit by removing all their support The small neck includes 3 rotation axis and one forward/backward translation movement in order to get the head as close as possible to the body. The legs are fully articuled with 2 perpendicular free axis at the ankle, a ball based articulation for the knee and a single axis using a Technic Rotation Joint Disk at the shoulder. Following the official AT line, I have use the usual shape for the feets and the serigraphied dishes covering the articulation. Additionnal or larger pictures : https://www.flickr.c...57649250201451/ 2. The middle module which is the womb of the AT-DT transporting the troups on two levels having a removal back and folding lateral panels. This module can be adapted to the needs of the battle but I show the troups carrier version which allows to 23 clone soldiers to be "confortably" transported. The upper level, which can be accessed by removing the back, has 14 seets looking backwards into the direction of the tail-toboggan. The lower level is completely empty and the clone soldier are carried by a "flatspeeder" which is a light carrier up to 8 occupants and a pilot. Additionnal or larger pictures : https://www.flickr.c...57649263056875/ 3. The backward module include the back legs and the folding tail-toboggan. The main structure is similar to the first module with a 3 studs wide passage for the clone soldier. The tail-toboggan has a folding part giving acces to the ramp of the toboggan. Additionnal or larger pictures : https://www.flickr.c...57648843856169/ THE BASIC AT-DT When assembled, these 3 modules form the basic AT-DT being 47.5 studs long whith the head pushed to the body. The walker can mainly adopt two stable positions ! - the high position with straight legs : it is used during the maintaining and at the end of the movement when one lateral side is unfolded. - the low position with bent legs where the abdomen is nearly touching the ground : it is used when the At-DT is static on the battlefield when the soldiers get out of ot. Additionnal or larger pictures : https://www.flickr.c...57649250270561/ ADDITIONNAL MODULE In order to show the flexibility of the modular building, I have build a small additionnal module integrating the long canon of the AT -TE with the clone completely protected inside the walker. It has to be inserted between the first and the second module. Additionnal or larger pictures : https://www.flickr.c...57646932536283/ VIRTUALLY ON THE BATTLEFIELD The soldiers are getting out using the tail-toboggan : Priority to the right or not . Additionnal or larger pictures : https://www.flickr.c...57649263129375/ CONCLUSION Even if two middle modules could be assembled to increase the number of transported soldiers, the short legs limit the speed and the mobility. This why the AT-AT has been developed. Hope you enjoy this model. If you read french and/or are interested into the others AT-DT made for the contest, do not hesitate to have a look to the corresponding the TechLUG forum section on the topic starting with [CONCOURS 12].
  14. Thanks. The voting is over and this model won : http://www.eurobrick...25#entry2059601
  15. The voting for the contest is over and this AT-DT won with 64% of the votes .
  16. Strange, because I have tested it right now and have no problem to open it with LDview and MLCAD. Save the file and then open it with one of these two softwares.
  17. Well, the mpd file is now available here : http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/DanSto/AT-DT/at-dt_final.mpd As stated previously, it is not fully accurate but it contains 95 % (or even more) of the presented model. Enjoy .
  18. Thank you. Two turrets, why not ? I will try this virtualy . I have a MLCAD file but it need to be a little bit reworked before sharing it. I will let you know when it will be available.
  19. Thank you, thank you very much . I have a MLCAD file which corresponds to 95 % of the build (I did not update the file with the final adjustments because of the contest deadline). Do you want to build your own model ?
  20. This MOC is mainly based on virtual pictures because the OneWTC tower is still under construction (the top has been reached) and the 9/11 Memorial is near completion. Two virtual pictures which have inspired the MOC : The final MOC will be a mixture of both virtual images. The 9/11 Memorial does not present any major difficulty : the two fontains are made with black tiles and explain the relative thick base. The OneWTC tower is more challenging because of the straight lines running from the corners of the square base to the corners of the 45 degrees rotated square top : The construction is inspired by the one of set 21001 where similar lines are represented by small steps. Some pictures of the MOC Close view of the Memorial Any comments are welcome.

LEGO Ideas - Architecture - The Twin Towers

Nice MOC. A few months ago, I had tried to put my OneWTC and 9/11 memorial (http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=76694entry1449601) on Ideas but it was rejected for political conotations. Hope that yours will be accepted.
  22. For the 11-th TechLUG Star Wars contest devoted to the LightSaber Duel, I have choosen the final fight between Obi-Wan and Darth Maul at the end of the Phantom Menace. This because I like particularly Darth Maul with his double lightsaber and his unusual and choregraphic way to fight The reference scene I have tried to represent is the one where the two characters are fighting to death in front of the huge and deep well. Moreover, into this scene, the two fighters hold their lightsaber using only one hand whereas most of the time they use both hands which is more difficult to do with minifigs. THE ROOM AND THE DEEP WELL I have spent some time to build this scene including the deep well, the floor and the backward wall in order to keep everything into 12 studs times 12 studs as required by the contest : the final version contains something like 800 parts. Rendering the deep well is not so easy because it is really deep and I did not want to do a one meter high tube or a waterpool like one. Talking about water pool, this picture of the making of is interesting because it shows a lots of details not easy to get into the video and because it shows that only the deep well is virtual. So, for the deep well, I decided to build a 8 studs high half-cylinder on top of a 3 studs high funnel in order to use a forced perspective effect. The wall of the cylindric well is made with black 1x2 tiles with grille fixed on dark gray bricks in order to have a striped texture. Note that the well is slightly tilted relative to the square base to align the white vertical band with the door of the room. The cylindric wall of the well : The bottom of thr well is made of 3x3 plates without corner stacked verticaly and forming a half-circle fixed by circular briks in front and back by an elastic; the diameter of the circle is obtained by intercaling a 1x3 plates between two 3x3 plates. The bottom of the well and the base : The well and the floor are included into a 12x12x12 studs3 cube onto a 12x12x2 studs3 decorated base. I have choosen to close the 3 other faces of the cube adding some functional elements like air or fluid tubes and some duct to render its bulk shape. Backward face and one of the lateral face of the cube : The floor is made of two decorated arches for the border of the well, of bricks and plates lying on top of the cube. Finally, the backward wall is made with 2 panels 13 studs high slightly sloped back making nearly 45 degrees from one to the next. The central panel is build by 2x4 dark grey tiles shifted in order to render the white bach lightning. The left panel includes the source of the force field and a control panel fixed on a trapezoidal black plate. The right panel is made with 3 columns of tiles slightly shifted vertically to follow the floor profile. The 3 panels of the backward wall : For the back side of the wall, I have indroduced some decorative element in order to not just have a black back. The whole building splited and built, with an animated gif to turn around it. . Some pictures of the MOC in real bricks ; THE CHARACTERS When Obi-Wan enters the room to kill Darth Maul, his master Qui-Gon Jinn is dying on the floor and, because there was some room remaining, I decided to include him. For Darth Maul and Qui-Gon Jinn, I have taken the minifigs of the Sith infiltrator set using old brown hair for the Jedi instead of the reddish one. For Obi-Wan, I used the minifig of the podracers set taking the hair of agent Charge corresponding more to the movie. . THE SCENE Some pictures speak finally better than a long speech : Close views of the duel Obi-Wan is raging against Darth Maul but takes care of the Dark Side Some other views : Larger images can be found into my Flickr album : https://www.flickr.c...57646030400841/ Animated gifs showing the building of the different elements can be found into this brickshelf folder : http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=546082 Thank you for having read (or not) this long presentation .
  23. Thank you, I appreciate .

    76023: The Tumbler Discussion

No steering ??? that's ridiculous on a model sold 220 EUROS (for France). They have molded new tires : why not a special steering part suited for this particular model ?
