I like that they have Zod rather than Luther. The trailer is promising but as I said in another thread, it looks a little origin heavy. A lot of superhero films make the mistake of being 3/4ths origin and 1/4 story.

I am unable to view that video because I'm on my work computer, so I will check it out later. But I've never been into Superman either. Always been a Batman fan, like many others. But I did like the teaser (even though others didn't) and I'm sure I will like this new trailer. I will definitely see this in theater. I only rented the last one and was disappointed, but I believe in this movie.

Origin stories can be bad if done too often, but since so many people have different takes on the origin, sometimes a new origin can work out in the movie's favor.

I'm looking very much forward to this film. I think it's going to make the audience ask what would you do given his abilities and the struggle to blend in, but live with your decisions to act or not act. Most movies and shows about Superman are mostly external struggles celebrating his abilities, and I think it'll be interesting to see him growing into the Superman persona through a series of moral dilemmas and choices.

I'm also glad they chose General Zod, his father's nemesis, to be the antagonist. It equalizes the playing field in terms of abilities.

What's with all the hate on this movie? Superman's the first superhero, I think it's about time he deserves to have his own movie.

He's had somewhere around 7 movies 4 live action TV shows, 7 or 8 animated shows? It's not like he's been ignored.

I think a lot of the fears stem from the combination of WB not being able to get a firm grasp on or produce a decent movie around their properties ( the last Superman movie, Green Lantern, etc) mixed with concerns surrounding some of Zachary Snyder. He's done some good stuff. He's also done some really bad. And his one trick of dark overly color corrected movies with slo mo action sequences is quite frankly starting to wear thin. People are kinda sick of seeing washed out blue movies. And if you look at Snyders body of work, it honestly starts to make us yearn for Shumachers Bat Nipples. I don't know that he consciously does it but all of it is either bordering on gay porn (300, Watchmen (note the big blue bobbing thingy), and Superduperman (really have you seen the costume? What's the first thing you notice? The second? Note how hard it is to look anywhere else.) Those movies that don't seem quite so Shumacheresque tend to lean more into extreme fetish tastes. (SinCity and (Ugh!) Suckerpunch). The story might be interesting (granted I really wish Hollywood would discover a real Superman villain like Braniac or Richard Pryor) but I am kinda worried.

Spartans were known for their relationships between the youth and the men. Dr. Manhattan is depicted as being nude in the graphic novel. As far as Superman's suit goes, the same issue can be seen in other suits from other movies.

Ok....That was an odd combination of old trailer sections, and new clips.....But I don't care 'cuz that was pretty good!

"Well, here it's an S."

The bits about the old Kryptonian war, and Zod's looking for Jor-El's son were quite interesting, and sound like the're really going to add a new, fresh dynamic to this whole thing.

I have to say I'm looking forward to this movie, and it might even be a game-changer for DC. Of course, it might not, but only time will tell.

It's a much better trailer than the previous ones. I'm still not so into it. The actor doesn't look like Superman to me. Just his neck being too thin. Maybe he'll pull it off though. Everyone felt the same way about Michael Keaton, and I think he made a good Batman.

The best part for me was the father son scene with Costner. I hate Costner, but that is a solid bit of scene, and Superman's dad is probably a good role for him. Even in the few seconds it appears, it seems a genuine tear-jerker.

Russell Crowe as Marlon Brando was a bit weird though.

Best trailer yet. Like you said I'm still not sold, although I did like what we saw of Costner, and Russel Crowe as Jor El seemed... interesting. Not what I ever pictured for the role, but he might not be bad. Still not sold on this dude as Supe's though.

Meh, looks decent. But as others have said, it still looks too origin heavy and I'm still not sold on Supes either, both the actor and the suit. The story just seems too predictable. Oh well, at least it seems we'll get some nice action. I'll watch it, but I can't seem to get excited for it. :sceptic:

By the way, has it been explained yet why in the world Zod and his army need armor and weapons? I mean, they are friggin Kryptonians, aren't they?

"Well, here it's an S."

Meh, still doesn't beat

Kryptonians aren't super powered on Krypton. The Superman type abilities come from exposure/absorption of the solar energies of earths sun. Their local sun doesn't supercharge them. So on Krypton they use advanced armor, weaponry etc, to make war,

At least that's how it has always been portrayed in the past.

I know, but why do they need them on Earth when fighting Superman? :sceptic:

They won't just be powerful right away, they'll have to absorb the sun's radiation gradually. Unlike them, Superman has been on earth his whole life, and will naturally be more powerful.

This movie looks ok, not to keen on the whole 'no kryptonite' thing. It's like Wolverine with no claws.

I guess that makes sense. They just never needed them before, so that's why I'm asking. I guess it comes down to how much weaker they want to portray them compared to Superman, which must be more than usual in this film. :sceptic:

They've never used weapons before because they are usually imprisoned in the phantom zone in most iterations.

I think it's more than just that - even if all of your people could fly and have laser eyes and stuff, if you were trying to cause some really massive havoc you'd probably want some space ships with guns. I'm sure that bad guys will be plenty powerful as individuals (we get a glimpse of a midair Zod-Supes fight after all), but just a bunch of powerful people doesn't have the same impact as people with weaponry.

Has it been confirmed that they weren't put into the phantom zone? If so, that would indeed make sense.

Speak for yourself. If god-like beings from another planet came down from the sky and started shooting lasers out of their eyes, I'd be a whole lot more freaked out than if they just carried guns. I do see the need for space ships, but the handheld guns are just redundant in my opinion.

How about this:

Zod needs the ships on Krypton thanks to the red sun.

He may or may not know about our yellow sun's effect on his race, so he brings the ships along anyway.

Upon learning about his new-found powers, he keeps the ships around for intimidation tactics, and maybe because that's what he is used to, but doesn't really use them that much.

Or I don't know, maybe he just likes driving around big spaceships.

Sure, it would be frightening for a few super-fast people with flight to run around Metropolis, but what about bringing a huge spaceship over the city, flinging down a lot of threats, and then sending in the super-soldiers? Plus, we don't know what Zod and his cronies power levels will be, it may be below Superman's enough that they do want to use the ships. Or maybe the ship has big enough guns to actually hurt Superman, whereas he is nigh-invulnerable otherwise. And regarding the guns, they were trained in warfare WITH GUNS, so they would be more familiar with them, and would default to using them. They may be creatures of habit, (Like us puny humans) and just not want to put down the guns. Or maybe they're special guns that would be more effective against Superman than heat-vision. Remember, Kal-El is their main target, that's what they''ll be planning against.
