Actually, I heard once that it's a practice among some bricklink stores to put certain pieces or sets at insanely high prices for the sheer purpose of making a name for the store, to spread word.

Publicity is publicity, afterall

The rumored red ghosts... ;-)

Well the story of it that I heared was that some guys bought lego

at a market and came across this.

And the story is that those was molded in red because of testing the new mold,

and the current colour of the machine was red, simple as that.

Then how the ghost winding up at a market place, one can only figure...

MUAAAHAAAHAAA!!

There are lots of these idoits out there. I once saw a Lando for $1,000,000 but it's gone now. Hmmm......
ya, i remember seeing that one too (as i have been in the market for a lando or two, for a while now).

PPP had about 12 landos for around 25 USD each about a month ago... now they only have 1 for 3000.00 USD 8-

Scary isn't it?

You're just better off buying the whole Cloud City set, which is going for at most 600 dollars.

I have a Lando, mint, no cape, which I would happily sell or trade to whoever wants him..... Or I can just list him on ebay. I trade for old keychains or old small Adventurers sets (MISB only).

Oh, DUH! Now it makes sense.

Red was the color Lego used to use to test stress fractures on parts.

And now everyone uses clear, for obvious reasons.

Now these chains and tails I snagged off Bricklink awhile ago have a credible origin.

::smacks self in head for not thinking of it till now::

Actually the red ghost was a fake. I talked to someone who knows the guy in person. Why do you think it was on sale on bricklink for only a few hours? Even at that insane price nobody would buy it. Because it was fraudulent. The guy took a ghost and painted it red. The only legit red prototype is that track...at least that is known by the public.

I would give so much for a prototype >_>

Lol;

Well, someone once said that Lego employees get to buy / are given parts in non-set colors.

PROBABLY these are test parts that are in excess.

And Bricklink of course is the place to look. I mean hell, I got mine there. :-P

And those 2 parts in particular... chains and a tail with a large, enclosed area... both are parts one would want to test relentlessy and often.

They're out there. They might just not be advertised in the title as such. These weren't, oddly enough. I only knew it was odd because I like both those parts and used to keep an eye on any sets that had them.
