Juicy on the megablocks, but minifig legs need the tubes on the back to sit down, meaning they wouldn't have the space for the juicy which is arguably the most important part of that figure. Maybe they could just a gave a printed/stickered tile of the trousers included in a future peters apartment set. I mean an apartment building in the new style could reasonably include Jean Grey to poke around the apartment, frank's Van as a side build, some DoDC stormtroopers and Hand Ninjas. Plus the evil dog that hates Spider-Man for some reason (Jackals are doglike?!?! Foreshadowing? I have my doubts about BND follow-up sets. NWH had the villains and the other Spideys plus Lady Liberty as a setpiece, so a follow-up was more than warranted, whereas BND has Frank, Sadie Sink‘s character, the Hand, and …Ramrod :snicker: And no obvious missing location or vehicle.

An Epic Battle set with the Hand as some have suggested would be awesome, but beyond that, I have no idea what they could do

After watching Spider-Man: Brand New Day, I agree that there is very little left for LEGO to cover.  The Hand ninjas would be great and would be a welcome addition as they are Dardevil and Wolverine antagonists too!  But ultimately in the film there's no iconic locations or vehicles, it seems LEGO is unwilling to produce another Punisher minifig for regular playsets, and Sadie Sink's mystery character does not have an interesting design to warrant a minifg,

I can't believe you missed the obvious connection that the dog/jackal is owned by (presumably a clone of the real) Gwen Stacy, who's in the elevator with none other than the MCU's Harry Osborn.

I'm fairly confident that epic battle with the hand will happen. It's a major scene in the movie, and the movie made more than NWH and is on track to beat endgame. I think lego sees the dollar signs in ensuring people can have a lego version of that moment.

But other than that, yes, there's really nothing else they can do- unless the movie's success is enough for them to bend their rules. If they weren't averse to punisher, the battle van would be such a clear and obvious set you'd think lego asked them to put it in the movie- a $30-40ish vehicle set featuring a breakout character from a multibillion dollar movie. Clearly they deemed Bernthal's Punisher unfit for sets before the movie, but with it's success, maybe they see enough money that they can use the justification that- I mean, maybe they'll decide Bernthal's Punisher is now associated with a PG-13 property strongly enough to put him in a set. It's not exceedingly likely, but if they were to do so I imagine they'd be fast-tracking that set.

If the movie beats NWH and maybe even Endgame at the worldwide box office, it‘s a reasonable stance to say MCU Punisher is mostly associated with BND now, rather than the Netflix shows, DDBA, or the recent special. I mean, you could even argue the shows are small potatoes compared to BND by default in terms of public awareness :snicker:

If movie Deadpool was influential enough to make him a mostly R-rated character, by the same token, MCU Punisher should be well on the way of becoming a mostly PG-13 character

The more I think about it, the more optimistic I become about a minifig.

It’s not really clear where Lego does and doesn’t draw the line for certain characters. Obviously, R-rated franchises are out. However, Deadpool is best known at this point for his raunchy humor, over-the-top violence, nudity, and potty mouth. Even if he appears in a Y7 film, I feel Lego would still be hesitant to include him in a set. Same goes for Punisher. Sure, he might become best known for Spider-Man Brand New Day, but the characters whole deal is being an superhero who violently executes criminals. Seems like the type of character Lego would be hesitant to include.

Exactly. The largest potato he was in, by far, is PG-13. If the movie had "only" make like $700mil or something I could see them being a little more hesitant, but this is in the running for the highest grossing film ever made. No parent is going to look at Mr. lemme tell you something and think of the netflix series first.

Battle Van in January 2028 is a legitimate possibility.

True, but... the thing is, a lot of MCU heroes are men and women who go around killing people with guns. Punisher at least has a costume and is in a bunch of comedic scenes and

Spoiler

doesn't kill anybody in the movie. I don't think he actually shot anybody but hulk and accidentally spidey, the most that happened is he was forced by Jean to harm two DODC guards.

Even Captain America uses a rifle to shoot a bunch of mind-controlled agents in avengers 2012, but he's fine to put in sets obviously, because that's not what he's known for. I think with how well BND is doing, especially given how long it's been since the last time Punisher was on the big screen, he's going to be more associated with arguing with spider-man and going "HUUUUAAAAAH" than his netflix series.

Deadpool's had an extremely popular R-rated trilogy- a supporting role in an avengers movie or two probably wouldn't get him a minifig. But if he wasn't in any other R-rated movies for a few decades and then in 2050 we got Deadpool's Funny PG-13 Adventure with spidey and it made 5 billion dollars, I think that could get a minifigure.

Yeah, I think TLG mostly judge the appropriateness of characters based on public perception. I agree. If Deadpool shows up in Doomsday/SW, those movies will presumably make more money than D&W but that doesn't mean he's suddenly a family friendly character not associated with vulgarity and violence. Similarly, Wolverine's highest grossing movie ever is D&W. That money made more than any other movie set in the FoX-Men universe but that doesn't make Wolverine suddenly a rated-R character who Lego is shying away from because his history before that is being family friendly and clean for decades. I feel the same will be true for Punisher. One movie like BND won't be enough to rehabilitate his image. Weren't people speculating that the lack of any sets with Hand ninjas is also because they're too closely linked to rated-R Daredevil? If they won't touch the Hand ninjas, there's no way they'll touch Punisher. I think people forget that Punisher is also a character and emblem co-opted by far right organizations so there's some political issues there too.

With how much the Hand were in the marketing it's somewhat surprising they didn't get a set.

I'm starting to believe what some people said was true that this is a case of Lego avoiding anything Daredevil-related due to maturity. Like you said, they were way too prominent in the marketing for Lego to have avoided them just because of spoilers. It's a pity if we can't have Hand ninjas, because like others have said here, they're so heavily linked to many major Marvel characters like Daredevil, Elektra, Wolverine, and Psylocke. But since they're more associated with Daredevil and Elektra than with Wolverine or any X-Men characters, I can see why Lego might skip them altogether. Ironic since

Spoiler

in the comics, Wolverine had a scrapped storyline, The Dark Wolverine Saga (essentially his Dark Phoenix Saga), which was all about him being brainwashed by The Hand to turn evil and it also would have heavily involved Jean Grey, who The Hand were really after, with Psylocke and Wolverine as test runs to get to her. So her inclusion in BND with The Hand works well with that. We did get a truncated storyline of this with Wolverine and Jean as a couple.

I feel like taking spidey's "you're not a killer" line as canonical proof she's never killed anyone when we see her do so is a bit of a "don't believe your lying eyes" thing. (I think it's much more likely he's just trying to talk her down, because if nothing else how would he even know whether or not most of these people survived?)  You could handwave some things- maybe nobody dies in the hulk rampage, or scorpion attack where he throws a large burning object at two cops that explodes upon impact, or when she blows up a DODC prison that in no way had time to evacuate the detainees, but we do see her do things that 100% killed people onscreen, and not even people who were remotely bad or connected to her sister's capture or even the DODC as a whole. In the opening tank chase she's blowing up police cars. There are multiple shots in which the tank hits police cars and they explode, fire bursting out the windows. Those men and women are dead. Similarly, that guy who she forces to walk into a busy NYC street and promptly gets hit full-on by a speeding car is dead. And in neither case is killing those people helpful to her mission. What are the cop cars behind the tank going to do, pit-check it? The guy she walks into traffic doesn't give her any benefit either- I guess it shocks spider-man for a second but she also straight up waves to show him which mind she's in a second later.

Not to mention all the random innocent people she severely injured or possessed. Or stuff like making MJ's body kiss peter and then revealing it was really her, which, like forcing that civilian to kill himself, is just kind of evil and isn't even hurting the DODC- not that it would make telepathic assault of that nature or forcing civilians to kill/harm themselves understandable.

Wanda is definitely the worst of the three by far and it's not even close. There are a number of actual full-on villains in the MCU who are less evil and kill fewer innocents for more sympathetic reasons than her massacre of heroes, sorcerers, and innocents to... steal children from a variant of herself.

I've gone into the specifics on this before and won't retread the stuff about whether or not the kill is legally justified, but while it was a character failure for John as Cap- he killed out of anger at his friend's murder and not the necessity to bring justice-  you have to admit it's not anywhere near the level of the other two. Even in the worst case, where it's a punisher-style kill, it's- well, a Punisher move against one bad guy, not a Cap move, but not the same thing as mass murder, hurting and killing innocent people, multiversal child-kidnapping, etc. He also does get immediately beaten up by two heroes, loses the shield, and is stripped of his rank following that- he pays for it dearly. (Not to say that wanda doesn't in MOM)

I'd say Tony Stark has the biggest kill count, if we're going by heroes and not villains like Thanos or Loki. He funded weapons and arms for illegal wars which would have killed thousands, if not millions, based on real world stats. Wanda's entire traumatic backstory is basically all due to Tony. He created the weapons that orphaned her and Pietro and made them turn to revenge. Then Tony created Ultron so all the deaths on Sokovia are directly linked back to him. Vision only existed thanks to Ultron creating him who Tony created first. For Wanda to fall in love with Vision and lose him, plus for Thanos to get the stone to do the snap, that's all contingent on Tony creating Ultron to create Vision. And considering RDJ is playing Doom, my guess is that Tony/Doom are variants which means Tony is probably one of the deadliest "heroes" to ever exist and any deaths that Doom causes will be Tony's by proxy. It's fitting that Doctor Strange was created as Iron Man's natural successor in the MCU, as the arrogant genius who turns to science/magic but seems to go bad in almost every reality.

Spoiler

by this same logic, every superhero fight and climax in just about every superhero movie makes these characters killers because they're all causing fires and explosions from their epic battles, with little regard to civilian life. Considering they're actual grown adult superheroes whose actual job is to protect lives and not just a lone teen fighting against an entire oppressive government, I'd say they come across as much worse. The amount of times Hulk alone has rampaged in pretty much all his movies makes it very incredulous that he hasn't claimed any lives. But the MCU pretty much glosses over this except when it's used as a plot point, like in Civil War. So I don't see why one is held to this standard while literally no one else is.

Yeah, and even the joke with JJJ is less funny when he's not got regular people to bounce off. I fully agree about Superman, weirdly the third act of it acts like the film did establish this cast to the point there's a guy who didn't have a single memorable line just standing in the corner of the spaceship.  I don't know the daily planet crew at all bar Lois and the fact Jimmy is a womaniser. We don't even really see how Clark fits into the daily planet environment so it really is just Lois.

Yeah, I think you can really see how even safe, populist art like superhero stuff can affect how people act from conversations like that. Fan likes the X-Men, other fans say they're like MLK, Stan Lee repeats that in his endless crusade for adulation, fan attaches criticism of this group who were not made to be civil rights leaders to that of civil rights leaders, fan now is defending the idea of ethnostates because the X-Men had one. It's really stupid but this is how way too many people's brains work. The X-Men are not only not a real minority but they're not even a real allegory for them but a lot of fans act like criticism of them, in or out of text, is akin to actual bigotry.

Yeah, I think Magneto works best when you acknowledge he is a villain. Genocide does not justify a new genocide. I don't really know why X-Men writers tie themselves into knots trying to justify him. Maybe a holocaust survivor that uses his experience to justify his own genocide based on genetic superiority is just too thorny a concept for most superhero stuff to handle so they try make him more heroic and vindicated. I don't blame them for that, it is a complex, messy concept that feels more apt for just a straight character drama than a populist action/adventure story but I feel like if you don't want to commit to that use someone else as your villain.

To be fair, she does that as a straight villain. I think that comparing her acts in MoM to the acts of the other characters talked about is unfair as the narrative understands she's fully evil there. The issue with the other ones discussed is they're entirely supposed to be figures we root for once we "get" them.

Spoiler

Much like with the Daily Planet stuff, where we need to see Clark, Lois, Jimmy, Perry White, etc. all together, the Daily Bugle stuff also needs Peter Parker, J. Jonah Jameson, Robbie Robertson, Betty Brant, etc. That was something the Raimi films understood and I think it's curious that all the Daily Bugle stuff with Peter as a photographer has never been adapted again since the Raimi movies. Just extracting J. Jonah Jameson from that dynamic alone doesn't work. And for Superman, like you said, Clark has basically no scenes at the Daily Planet outside of his opening. We don't get to see his role there at all (he spends more time there as Superman with that kiss scene at the end than he does as Clark). Outside of Lois, the characterizations are non-existent. Jimmy is just used for a running gag which isn't even that funny and Perry White is basically wallpaper. He was so prominent in the Christopher Reeve movies and even in Superman Returns, but he's given nothing to do here.

100% agree with all that. I guess it's the parasocial element found in most modern-day fandoms and pop culture which makes people bond so closely with these fictional characters that they treat them like they're real people and sometimes treat them with more respect than actual human beings.

Magneto is a character who has suffered from a lot of retcons. He started off as a Doctor Doom wannabe. And he was heavily tied to fascist and Nazi symbolism in the 60s, always ranting and raving like a lunatic about mutant racial supremacy while physically abusing Toad in every scene for being a lesser mutant. The Holocaust backstory was a retcon in the 80s, followed by his lifelong friendship with Xavier, all created to make him more sympathetic and turn him into an anti-hero by a Zionist writer. The funny thing is that Marvel started to feel making their 2nd most popular villain (after Doom) into an ambiguously Jewish terrorist was problematic so they retconned him again in the 90s to make him explicitly a Roma Holocaust survivor. That part always makes me laugh because apparently it's deemed acceptable by societal standards for bigotry against the Romani people with both of Marvel's top two villains being Romani. Even more telling since the heroic Romani characters like Wanda and Pietro have their background scrubbed from all media adaptations. Only when the FoX-Men movies became popular did the comics go back to making Magneto explicitly a Jewish Holocaust survivor. This is also why the movies gave him the name Erik Lehnsherr, which isn't Jewish, since it's the name he was given in the 90s to make him of European Romani background so that his existence wasn't seen as offensive (except to the Roma who apparently don't count). So then the comics had to retcon that name as well. That's not even getting into all the retcons with Magneto being Wanda and Pietro's father. The funny thing being that the writer who made the Maximoff twins the kids of Magneto is also the same writer who hated the idea of Magneto being redeemed as a hero and given a sympathetic Holocaust backstory. But both retcons went hand in hand to really turn him into the conflicted anti-hero he's viewed as today. You can see how the First Class reboot movies are based on this anti-hero adaptation whereas the original FoX-Men trilogy is much closer to this 60s-70s characterization as a full-fledged supervillain, even while retaining the tragic origin that was retconned in the 80s. Pietro (and Wanda by extension) being Magneto's kid was also inspired by the fact that both characters had white hair. Since Magneto, without his helmet, was never seen until the late 60s and when he did unveil his face, he had a full head of shock-white hair which was enough for one writer to decide that he and Pietro have to be related! By this logic, Clea and Storm should also be part of Magneto's family since white hair is clearly a trait that belongs only to the House of Magnus.

Precisely, she's characterized as the villain in MoM for a reason. That whole arc was created since, originally Wanda was supposed to be Strange's ally who would only go bad by the end, saving her as the villain for another movie. But the writer decided that everyone wants to see villain Wanda so why let another movie deliver on that instead of MoM so her villain arc was rushed to be completed in MoM instead. For better or for worse.

I was thinking about that mid-fig design from the one-piece animation.

Do you think it would work for Shulkie? She Hulk feels a bit too small as just a minifig but she's not just tall so not just woody legs.

Now I know she's not as big as Thanos of who I also think would look better with this midfig design as the big figs squat is pretty awful for most of the big characters (with a few exceptions for more feral characters like Killer Croc, Gorilla Grodd and Hulk himself) and they are very static with our much poseabilty or customisability ( though the separate head is a step in the correct direction, where it meets the neck does look like a big of a stylistic mishmash) and sometimes almost too big for the characters they represent.

I don't think so. She-hulk (the classic version at least) typically in effect is just scaling up a human woman- she retains relatively lithe proportions, she doesn't turn into a giant Eddie Hall like Hulk or Thing. Her shoulders typically don't get much broader like the midfig design. Honestly I think the avatar limbs actually would be the best way to differentiate her from normal minifigs.

It's one of those things that comes down to proportions and minifigures not being 1-1 translations in the first place. Thing is often shorter than she-hulk, but his proportions make a lot of people want a bigfig- a standard bigfig she-hulk, at least of her classic version, is something I don't think anybody's asking for.

(There is that version from around the 2018 avengers lineup where she's clearly just hulk- the proportions, rage issues, etc- but that one was always weird to me. It'd be like if you took away Falconcap's wings and Redwing or Buckycap's robotic arm and horrible trauma)

Hmm, yes. I get that her proportions are more like a giantess than a monster, but she still is muscular just not to (He-)Hulk's absurd degree and with giving her just the avatar limbs might make her look almost less muscular than a standard fig because she's only grown in one proportion, though when putting an avatar fig next to a human minifig they don't look scrawny from their stretchedness so it's not an issue there, the different arms even help the torso look a tiny bit broader, if that makes sense.

So overall I think you are right, the longer limbs might be the best solution to get her bigger and still make sense in the lego system, minifigs don't have anywhere near human proportions and nor should they, a lanky She hulk would still be a cool improvement and hopefully something they might do for her next figure.

I'm sure you've read me calling bigfigs ugly on here a few times, but i think if they did do that (without major redesigns of the bigfig) that poor Jen would take the crown for the ugliest bigfig of all.

Yeah the fact that they chose a charismatic actor means movie fans won't get it. Jabba "My ally is the force, and also this gun I found" the hutt is just too likeable to be Paul.

The writing is fine- Paul's not actually a terrible person in the comics IIRC- but between the circumstances being different than the movies and comic paul having so much more of a punchable face than Eman Esfandi (which, I know it's a self insert, but at the same time if you don't want people to think your self-insert has a punchable face don't write yourself in as married to Spider-Man's girlfriend), they just won't be able to recreate the magic.

Cool to see the thought process going there, yeah I think that long limbs would be the best way to do it. Though she's probably stuck waiting for a related modular, maybe if we ever get a comic based Baxter building modular.

That 2018 run was rough. There were some interesting elements with the celestials and finally bringing the Avengers Trinity back together after the ANAD era gutted them, but at the same time anyone not part of the trinity (or Robbie Reyes, who got a nice popularity boost) had a rough time. She-hulk honestly felt like they'd written Hulk on the team and some editor made them change it at the last second because he didn't know she wasn't just another hulk. Black Panther I think got overpushed a bit, after the movie I think- much like in the later MCU- the writers thought Wakanda was the big draw, not T'challa, so they really pushed wakanda's version of shield, their own avengers team, etc, and in the aftermath of those storylines not doing so well, now there isn't even an ongoing for Panther himself planned. Doctor Strange was also present but I didn't think it was particularly great work from him.

It is interesting to look at the main universe ongoings, because the Marvel Knights are really doing well. Outside of the trinity and Hulk, no typical avengers will have ongoings by the end of the year, but Moon Knight, Daredevil, and Punisher are all up and running with no end date in sight. Black Cat also has ongoing (Somehow, given the all characters who don't) and is sometimes associated with that corner of the verse.

We are reportedly getting more Doomsday sets next year with both minifig playscale and 18+ display orientated sets

Hope for USAgent is not yet lost🤞🏻

That’s far from confirmed, it’s an unsubstantiated rumour  We should wait for other sources to corroborate it.

Yeah "confirmed" was more of a mistype on my part :drunk:

Just don't kill my hope, John's been MIA for 5 years now

I want a full body buildable Doctor Doom like Iron Man Mark 3. Lego please give it to me.

If he's well received after Doomsday, I'm sure we'll get a lot of Doom sets. They can only repeat Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Venom, and Thanos so often.

I have a feeling that Secret Wars is the movie we're going to get repeat sets for after it comes out. Like how Infinity War gets ignored and Endgame keeps getting new sets. Secret Wars supposedly has about 60+ characters with countless cameos and appearances so they'll have no shortage of characters and setpieces.

It sounds like the source's veracity is in contention, so I wouldn't bet on anything just yet.

The more I see these comments the more I wonder how lego messed up leaving him out of the first wave. Such a cool character.

We essentially need three more sets to fill in all the missing figures, but if we can just get John, Ava, and Remy, I'll be happy.

You know this is coming, lego loves their statues. Probably next year to be honest.

He's really had a rough go of it. The marvel wave covering his show gave 1/3rd the roster cap shields and yet he wasn't part of it, the first movie he's in is the first MCU movie in over a decade to receive no coverage at all, and then he's left out of the doomsday sets. Never a situation where he specifically got singled out in the snub, but they just keep stacking up.
