They are cool concepts, but it's a similar thing to the giant minifigures- if I want star wars legos, I want legos representing things in the star wars universe, not legos referencing lego star wars or filming/watching star wars. This sums up my thoughts as well. Like why would I want a BTS diorama instead of the actual scene? I want to be immersed in the movies, not reminded about how it's all fake. Quote
BrickPrick Posted July 9 Posted July 9 (edited) 11 hours ago, Mandalorianknight said: I think it's entirely possible in the latter case. Dooku would be guaranteed for an AOTC Brickheadz pack, but doesn't appear to be showing up before then in sets. It's not unheard of- though this would probably the most extreme example- as Grievous and General Lando also both received brickheadz a number of years after their minifigures went off shelves. Oh shoot, it's totally going to happen now, right? I seriously don't understand why it takes Lego this long to bring him back. It's gotta be due to the limited set compatibility. As the minifigure on it's own requiring only slight updates here and there is nothing to write home about. 11 hours ago, Mandalorianknight said: I'm glad to hear I wasn't alone in my lapse in judgement- though I do quite like the speeder, too. Some new wedge-tip curved slopes I hadn't seen before. Yep, we already talked about this a couple of times. It's a very sleek looking speeder. Definitely one of the better designed Battle Pack side-builds, I give them that. 11 hours ago, Mandalorianknight said: For some reason lego seems to count astromechs as minifigures. They don't do it with the B1s/B2s, etc, but they do with the astromechs. That said, two minifigs in a $30 set- one of them re-used- would imply a detailed general skywalker is coming, since it's sort of like the Cobb Vanth speeder set if the other fig had been a re-used Mando instead of your beloved Cad Bane. I think we probably will get arm printing and the like- the real question is if we'll get the more visually distinct navy and maroon robes, or the black and brown. We also touched on this topic before as well. What Lego officially classifies as minifigure might vary be region. At least as far as their marketing efforts are concerned. In the official german product descriptions, be it the Lego Shop/Amazon/you name it, Astromechs are not counted towards the total minifigure count. It goes like this: "Includes 3 minifigures: A, B, C AND Astromech X as an additional figure." In either case, my point still stands, R2 will 99% be a repeat, so they only have to care for Anakin. Which I want to clarify as well, I heavily prefer him to be in his early TCW navy/maroon General outfit. Give us something special we don't get every single time when he releases in one of his Starships. I want a true equivalent standing toe to toe with last year's General Obi-Wan figure. 11 hours ago, Mandalorianknight said: Dust is a scourge for legos. Especially the black-base dioramas- at least Mos Eisely has to be harder to notice dust on given the lighter colors. Yes, it is. And yep... you're right. It's not terribly visible on the Mos Eisley Cantina itself. The dust is only noticable around the outskirts due to the black table. I love it when Lego basically has no viable option to include miscolored pieces, because they would stick out too much like a sore thumb. So I always appreciated the Cantina doesn't look like it was vomitted by some rainbow unicorn all over the place. Edited July 9 by BrickPrick Quote
CloneCommando99 Posted July 9 Posted July 9 If we live in a world where Count Binface can has a decent chance of winning a by-election and becoming a MP in the UK… Is it too much of a stretch to believe that Lego can make a TIE Avenger set? (Day #440!) Do we reckon George will have grey or black hair in the bts set? I know it was black at the time of filming but his grey hair is more iconic imo. Quote

Kaijumeister Posted July 9 Posted July 9 (edited) I think these are wonderfully unique ideas to celebrate a milestone anniversary for Star Wars. I don’t think I’ll necessarily buy them unless they blow me away, but the concept at least sounds solid and I much prefer stuff like this to buildable slop. My remaining hopes for 2027 are as follows: - McQuarrie (TK) Stormtrooper minifigure. - Playscale Ahsoka S2 sets - A banger Starfighter wave. Some story leaks have come out from reputable sources over the past week and I’m feeling the excitement. - Ewok Village and Bounty Hunter Pursuit coming to fruition - A Stinger Mantis! Hahahahahahahahaha(sob)hahahahaha just kidding Exciting to think that there’s hopefully a full summer wave of playscale goodness next year that we don’t even know about yet. BrickBob Studpants Posted July 9 Posted July 9 (edited) The minifigs in the theater set are said to be two workers, 3 cosplayers (C-3PO, Stormie, Jedi), and 4 fans. Sounds like there will be swappable posters, probably from the previously rumoured poster set? Edit: Even better, a lot of the sets come with LEGO-fied versions of all the posters on 6x8 tiles! They’re not randomised, luckily So far, TPM, AOTC, ANH, TESB, ROTJ, and RO are confirmed, but I’m sure all 14 movies will get one! Well, at least the 13 live-action ones. They’re really going all out with the anniversary!! The May UCS set is a new TIE Advanced and we’re also getting a concept art Stormie as part of the helmet collection! Another new set is a buildable ANH poster. Edited July 9 by BrickBob Studpants Quote

Ah- yes, sorry, I didn't mean literally a minifigure, I meant that lego seems to count them as occupying the same budget/space as a minifig. The most recent X-wing is a good example, lego typically puts 3-4 minifigures in their $50+ starfighters, and this one has two and an astromech. Whereas droids like B1s are characters they seem to count as less than a minifigure, as shown in sets like the super packs. Can you imagine a world where we had NINE minifigs in a $30 set? Nice. Might even look like the sand's blending into the table at that point. I think I'll be borrowing that phrase at the end there. 9 hours ago, CloneCommando99 said: Do we reckon George will have grey or black hair in the bts set? I won't be hunting them down, but I'll certainly be happy to see the ones that do pop up in the sets I grab. I also imagine the mcquarrietrooper minifig is almost confirmed at this point- while it's not impossible they do the helmet without a minifigure, it would be a very strange choice. As for the new stuff: Mcquarrietrooper helmet: The helmets aren't my thing, and I do wonder how well this will do, but I think it'll look nice and is a neat choice. UCS TIE Advanced. Lego's baiting me at this point. Smart tie advanced, UCS tie advanced, polybag TIE advanced, lego can I please just have my normal, dumb TIE Advanced? That said, this should be a great build, and while I don't have the space for a UCS collection we'll see if it tempts me enough to bite the bullet. Lego ANH Poster: I already have a spot picked out in my office. Movie theatre: As Kaiju says, a lot better than helmets or statues, even if it's not my type. Georg diorama: Same thing here. I like that pink shorts guy is implied to be coming in a set- I wonder what his BL prices will be, as I wouldn't mind picking him up if he's cheap. A very unique glup shitto. Quote

I'm not sure how LEGO will be able to improve on 75192 to be honest (even though it's been around since 2017!) but presumably they'll be a able to 'tidy' it a little more with a few of the newer elements that are now available. It's amazing that it has been on shelves for 9 years; presumably it's been very popular sales-wise, and attracted lots of new fans to LEGO. It's possible that they might just do a minor 'refresh' to tie-in with the 50th Anniversary (e.g. new minifigures, and a small part count increase). Not that I'm complaining, those $60-80 starfighters are consistently the best sets. I don't know- I would imagine the prints are why it's more expensive than a battle droid, but you would think the minifigures' legs and torsos being assemblies rather than a single piece would cause them to be more expensive than the R2, which is simply four basic parts, two of them printed. Kit Figsto Posted July 10 Posted July 10 I think I'm torn on the new set leaks, specifically the theater and filming diorama set. Stream of conscious thoughts ahead, be warned - On one hand, I think that it's cool that they're doing some new stuff and the posters + "meta" stuff is a neat way to celebrate the anniversary of what's really one of the biggest movies of all time. On the other hand, I don't really know if we needed a huge flagship set devoted to this anniversary. I'm VERY curious to see the price of the Landspeeder diorama - anything over $40 and I think it's unnecessary. Too, I appreciate the fact that they're going all out for an anniversary, because they almost never do, but to me, the choice of sets and what they're doing feels a bit haphazard. We've got two meta sets, the concept art figures scattered amongst sets, the posters (but doesn't really appear to be a rhyme or reason to the sets they're in), the buildable poster (love it), the concept art helmet (which isn't my thing, but if they're going to do it, why just do one? Why not do three or something?), then a handful of system sets, some of which have been long requested, and it seems like an updated UCS Falcon based on the hint above (which does make sense both given the shelf life of the last one and the 50th anniversary). I guess what I'm getting at, I'd rather for the anniversary that it feels a bit more like an anniversary "wave" than just sets here and there with some tie-in to the anniversary. I think that the 2019 wave did an excellent job of it - they remade classic sets in modern style and then threw in the anniversary minifigures. I think that for anniversary inclusions, like the minifigures or the upcoming posters, they really should keep it to system sets. They feel more compatible with one another, whereas you can't really mix a helmet set and a $30 playset very intuitively. If it were up to me, I've done a filming diorama on the cheaper side (under $40-50), then do a handful of ANH specific sets, each with an anniversary figure in them (a couple of remakes that are due, such as a system scale Falcon, Tantive IV, and Droid Escape, and then a couple of new sets, like the Lars Homestead or some variation of a new DS playset), and then with the remaining system sets, do the posters - ideally, each comes in a set based on said movie.
