Deep in the bowels - well, actually, in the entrance leading from the Nathuz Caverns - of Heroica Hall, a new hero was about to make his footstep in history.



He threw open the door, and stepped into the hall as his figure was bathed in light! Although he was in a cavern so it doesn't make much sense. But it looks cool that way.

The room fell silent as he stood on the threshold -



- but then he tripped. So everyone kinda lost interest and left.

"Are you all right?" asked the Eltengraf hero greeter.



The man jumped back up, rum in his hand again.

"Of course!" he shouted proudly. "If I can't take a fall onto a cobblestone floor I wouldn't be worthy of being a hero! At least my rum's okay.



"Right. Well, I'm going to need some background to induct you into the Hall. Name, race, and class?"

"I am Atramor Gibbin! Human rogue!"

The greeter scribbled this down onto a piece of parchment.

"Gibbin? Like the monkey?"

"...Yes, like the monkey."



Atramor stood with a highly proudness. But he didn't really deserve it. He even spit in a beggar's mug once. That was kinda mean. But he's the image of a Rogue - shady, sneaky, conniving.

"Oh, and this is McCafferey," he added, gesturing towards the chicken at his side.



"Bawk."

"Okay then...well, I'll get this to the boss."

And then Atramor had to go through several dozen screenings, background checks, and tax assessments. But you don't want to hear about those.



Look out world. Seriously, he'll steal your stuff while you're not looking.

Ellaria stepped timidly into the Heroica Hall. She had not been in the city for long, but when she heard about the heroic deeds of this organization, she just had to see what it was all about. She saw the Quest Board straight in front of her. There were three open quests posted on it, but she didn't think she was quite ready for them yet. She wasn't sure if this was the place in her vision. Her goddess Sylvania was known for her fickleness. She held reign over the nature, after all.

As she began to descend the stairs to the upper floors, a figure in a wide-brimmed hat bursted out from a door near her.

"Oh, excuse me!" Ellaria apologized, even though it was the man who had bumped into her. "My name is Ellaria Arbour, and I'm wondering whether this place... well, is the right place for me. I don't suppose you would know... Hey, is that a chicken on your head? She's cute!"

Atramor stumbled backward when he slammed into a figure right outside the doorway he'd stepped through. Although he managed not to trip this time, he spilled most of his rum onto the floor. McCafferey jumped several feet into the air, wings flapping, until she landed back onto her perch atop his hat. He then stood up straight again and swept his hat downward in a kindly gesture, then stuffing it back on his head, McCafferey clinging onto the brim as tightly as possible as he did so.

"Not a problem at all. I am Atramor Gibbin!" he proclaimed. "And yes, this is indeed a chicken on my head. Her name is McCafferey. And no, I just got here as well. Though I hear there's gold and fame abound to be had! And I intend to get my share of both.

The Rogue looked around, and found what he'd been looking for - the Quest Board. He skimmed through them. Though he didn't really read English, he knew a few choice words. 'Reward', 'Gold', 'Fame', and 'Rogue' were among them, so the second quest stuck out to him in particular. Sounded like this little job needed a person with cunning, sneakiness, and someone who was happy to take home a hefty sum of gold. Who else to fit these categories but him?

[Pandora]

Having recently returned from a successful mission to Draida Bay with an unlikely band of heroes, Nyx was stood by the quest board planning what to do next.  She looked around as the new heroes began to enter the hall, and a small smile played upon her lips.

Nyx, and that is all she is known by, seems at first glance to be your typical teenager - liking make-up and hunky men, and shoes and shopping, but there's much more here than meets the eye.  Nyx was found abandoned outside an Orphanage in a village on the outskirts of Eubric city, and the staff there took her in and gave her a frugal upbringing.  That was until the age of 7 when the horde attacked.  No-one truly knows what happened, but by the end of the ordeal the entire orphanage and all within, attackers, orphans and staff alike, were destroyed by a great fire.  All except Nyx, that is.  The rest of the village shunned her, blamed her, and drove her out of the village.  She was found in the woods by a wise old woman, who brought her up as her own daughter and taught her as much as she could about the power flowing within Nyx's veins.  A few years later, the old woman died, and ever since Nyx has been making her own way in the world, using whatever wiles she has to live the life she wants.

She's a playful sort, but has always had a slight difficulty determining the line that divides good from evil, and right from wrong.  It's likely she'll bound up to you, hug you and chatter to you, but she may also warp your giblets to an alternate dimension, or burn you to a crisp - you can never quite tell.  She might smile warmly at you, and her smile counts for a lot, but you might notice her eyes darken, and the atmosphere around her change, and that is the time to take to your heels, and run.

Back in Heroica Hall, the air around Nyx crackles; she shakes her hair loose and smooths down her robe with her gloved hands.  She turns back to face the quest board, keen for another opportunity to flex her magic, pick up something shiny, and maybe kill a few things, too.

"Hmm" she says "that Mack Donauld's got a problem with firestarters, the old fool.  I have other talents, but whatever.  I think the Ziegfrieds are more worthy of my attention, and that quest sounds like fun day out - it's just that little bit more up my boulevard.  I shall apply to the High Conjurator.  Right after I've had a cup of tea."

Ellaria was sitting on one of the tables at the upstairs saloon, watching as more and more aspiring heroes came through the door. She knew the times were tough, and work was not easy to find in Eubric. Heroica offered a perfect way to rise up in ranks even to those who were born as peasants or servants. Each of these people had a story to tell, she could tell that. She too, had a story of her own, though she was not sure if anyone wanted to hear it.

"So, what's your story, darling?" asked a scruff voice suddenly. Ellaria looked up to see the matron of the saloon, a homely female orc dressed in garish pink. "You can tell Scheherazade your worries. I've heard a thousand tales, you see, and told a thousand myself."

"I... I guess I am here to seek my destiny in life, as naive as that sounds. You see, I was found in a forest as an infant, and the people of a small village raised me. But then as I grew, I began to manifest... powers, I guess. The villagers started to fear me, even though I could never imagine harming them. They said I was a... changeling. A child of the fay folk. They cast me off and I returned to the forest where I was found from. There, the most beautiful yet the most frightening voice spoke to me. My goddess... Sylvania... The Mother Nature... She said to go to the City of the Free. There I should find what I was looking for. But I don't even know what it is I'm looking for, so how could I find it?!"

"Ah, fret not, my girl. Everybody is looking for something. Fame, gold, love, a quick tumble in the hay... You just have to choose. Here in Heroica, all those things are within your grasp. You've come to the right place, trust me." The orc matron gave her a wink. "Now, if you'll excuse me..."

As the orc sailed off to wait another table, Ellaria was caught staring blanky in front of her. What was it she really wanted in life?

Suddenly, somebody sat to her table.

Purple strides through the front door and takes off her helmet, flicking her hair to the side in dramatic slow motion as she does so.

Hey.

Purple walks up to the bar and puts her helmet down with a heavy metallic thud.

Rufindel Galadhras, Elf of the Forest, glides silently into the hall.  'Purple, Shadina.  Nyx...' he murmurs, acknowledging his comrades from former battles.  He scrutinises the Quest Board.

Rufindel has journeyed far from the great redwood forests of his home.  Son of King Fanguriul, lord of the once great northern Elven kingdom of Spesialia, he grew tired of the decadence which afflicts the immortal elves in this time of peace, and longed for a life of adventure.  For this, he was disowned, and banished from the realm.  Long he wandered paths forgotten, and strayed from country to city to country, always nurturing his faith in the great Legovia, wise Goddess of Creation, Destruction, and Recreation in Another Form.  From Legovia he draws his power, and it was the guidance of Legovia which brought him finally to Eubric.

'A glass of mead, if you please, O Scheherezade,' he whispers from his table alone in the corner, his eyes on the quest bulleting he has pulled from the wall.  He continues muttering to himself, 'Stealth, I can do stealth, though I am no Rogue.  And the Hinckwells, yes I fear the Hinckwells would benefit from my services...'

Sir Stoat struts into the hall " ah...heyah, long time listener , first time adventurer", Stoat winks at Purple.
"The name's Stoat, Sir Gladius Stoat....heyah" Stoat flashes his million dollar smile and heads for the bar.
"Who does a knight have to slay to get an ale around here" Stoat chuckles at his own lame joke, "but seriously I'm thirsty for ale ...and a good old fashioned quest of righteousness". Stoat is ready to Quest.
Stoat sips his ale as he reads the quest board...."Hmmm the Siegfried's eh I like those guys...That'd be the quest for me....after all I'm not in this for the money" Stoat announces this loudly enough for the other questers to over hear, then shoots a smile and a wink at Nyx...." Heyah ".

The doors leading to the Heroica hall opened with a creaky noise. Sunlight rolled in through the entrance, momentarily blinding those nearby. An unknown figure surged forward out of the light. The newcomer was rather tall, towering over most of the other Adventurers by at least half a head's length. His build was broad, though his facial features were rather sharp. His chin was covered with a short stubble, long blond-golden hair flowed beside his head, from underneath it his cold icy eyes scanned the hall, piercing the hearts of several bystanders who hurridly looked away.

The tall man stepped forward, with slow but great and confident strides. His chainmail armour made a tinkling noise. The man's skin was relatively pale compared to that of the others guests. He was clad in thick furs, which were decorated with intricately detailed metal clasps. At his side hung an equally well-crafted greatsword and a heavy battle-axe was slung around his body. The newcomer had everything of a cliché Viking, a people living high up North and who were feared and loathed, infamous raiders and great warriors.

"Varmblodar..." the newcomer murmured in his native tongue, nearly incomprehensible to the others. His demeanour was thought of by the other Adventurers to be as cold as the climate of the North from whence he came, as not a simple smile addorned his face.

The newcomer's name was Eric, a barbarian warrior hailing from the North. It's not often one of the Norse-folk venture down South in peace, but the initial surprise that got to the other Adventurers quickly wore off and they continued on with their own business.

Eric continued to walk down the hall, straight to the bar. He ordered a beer and downed it in one breath. He ordered another and strolled to the Quest board, his mouth turned to a smirk at the thought of the great fighting awaiting him. He would regain his honour or he would die trying. It did not matter, he could not fail.

"Det här ser intressant." Eric said as he read the description to the Mack Donauld Quest.

Eric would like to sign up for Quest #1: Harvest Time

Ah, it's so nice to be within these safe walls after the relentless attacks of the past few weeks.  You know what would really hit the spot?  A big mug of grog.  Barkeeper!  Get me a double!  And also a booster seat!  I can't reach very well

Althior walks back to the quest board. His mind is set and his craving is no more. He gladly puts his name under quest #3.
"Fortune and glory..." he mutters to himself, as he walks away.

Atramor grumbles loudly as he reads the sign-ups.

"Don't these people know 600 from 1,000?" he says angrily, to an annoyed "Bawk" by McCafferey.

Scribbling out his signature on the second quest, he uses the open quill and ink to inscribe it on Quest 1: Harvest Time. Then, upon lifting his rum to his lips, he realizes it's empty. Shame. So, he sets off for Scheherazade's for a possible drink or a good story or 2. If Atramor ever had a place even remotely similar to home, it was a bar.

Looking around the saloon, he shrugs to himself.

"Not bad."

He walks forward and sits at the bar, in between a brightly colored purple knight and a Halfling. McCafferey jumps off Atramor's hat and onto the counter, surveying the patrons or any signs o deceit or opportunity. She's a chicken, though, so it's a little difficult. Pouring a small handful of seed onto the counter for her, he looks up at the Orc barmaid.

"I hear this is the place to go for news. Or rumours. Or to find an eyeball in your stew, but that's another story. Could I have one of those? Preferably one of the former two?"

Eric read the names of the other Adventurers that signed up to help Mack Donauld. One was a one-eyed archer, while the other was a posh knight, who had a great affinity for dogs. The very thought of him teaming up with a cripple and a dog-lover displeased him greatly.

"I thought this was a guild for warriors seeking renown, not some foster home for the sick or a shelter for lost dogs and their equally lost owners," Eric thought, being his utterly angered self again. "I need a drink if I ever want to get through this."

He turned around and walked to the bar. Not really wanting to spend his time talking to the others, nor being interested in the woes and stories of the people there, Eric sought himself a solitary chair. It was to no avail, however, as the bar had become ever more crowdier, new Adventurers coming in at a steady pace. He picked himself a stool next to some lunatic wearing a gigantic stupid hat. To make matters worse, Eric found out he had a pet-chicken. It upset him even greater when he noticed the guy talking to the chicken. Eric rolled his eyes and gestured the maid. He ordered a beer and listened in on the conversations of the others.

"I hear this is the place to go for news. Or rumours. Or to find an eyeball in your stew, but that's another story. Could I have one of those? Preferably one of the former two?" his big-hatted, chicken-talking neighbour said to the Orc bartender. Eric turned around and bluntly replied, with a thick Nordic accent: "I don't know about the eyeball stew, but I hear the roasted chicken is great here"

Satisfied, he grinned and drank the beer Scheherazede had brought him.

EDIT OOC I don't want to sound rude to anybody, the "character-bashing" is merely done to reinforce the rude and arrogant image I want to create for Eric (though, he's more than that you'll find out )

Having learned of the possibility to sign up for multiple quests, I'd also like to sign up for Quest #2.

Don't you worry about me. I'm an archer. I'd close one eye when I shoot anyways if I did have two eyes.

Atramor looked over at the barbarian on the stool next to him. Joy, a gigantic hulking hunk of muscle. Well, it's a barbarian. What else were they but that? As he did, McCaffery flapped angrily and landed on his hat, once again.

"Well, you're a barbarian. All food is good to you. How else would you guys grow to the size of cows?" he replied tonelessly.

Atramor's hand drifts toward his pocket, where his Venom is kept. It'd be worth the 5 Gold, surely. He'd rather save it for monsters, though.

Hey Scherry!  I didn't realise Sham was your son!  Makes me glad I didn't accidentally turn him inside out or something, if I see him again I'll be sure to say "Hi" for you!  

Oooh and can I have another of your lovely flaming gumballs?  With extra chicken's blood and brimstone?  And an umbrella and a cherry on top?  Thanks, Schezza, you make the best drinks!

Yeah and can I sign up for Looking Through The Wares in addition to The Missing Matriarch?  I mean I'd rather go and look for the Matriarch, cos it's all magic and stuff and you know how much I love my shiny gems, but a quest that involves a load of Rogues... well some of them might be cute.  And it's another opportunity for me to cause bad people to have a slow and agonising death.  

Actually, if I can only go on one quest then obviously I'm off to find the Missing Matriarch...
