  1. QUICK INFORMATION Parts: 1867 parts (with minifigures, monkey and shark) Dimensions: W: 34cm L: 40cm H: 17.8cm Weight: 1300 grams Difficulty: Moderate Build (tested on one +11 years old) Type of set: For Display & Play ORIGINS I was re-reading the classic Robinson Crusoe some months ago and was drawn to the idea of somehow turning that story into a set. When Infamous Steve contest came along, I immediately knew what my large build was going to be. The modular section approach came from the new Eldorado Fortress. I quite liked that idea in that set, however I found the inner (closed) section was not used fully. The whole set was orientated more on the exterior. On my part I tried to squeeze as much as possible within the island. BUILDING INSTRUCTIONS AVAILABLE Instructions are available on Rebrickable. LINK to Rebrickable BACKSTORY While designing the island my mind kept returning to the original story of Robinson Crusoe. What if Steve, like Crusoe, got shipwrecked on a cannibal island, but with the twist, the cursed cannibal island from which he cannot escape? Or maybe he can? We start with the first two chapters of the story, already published inside the King’s Merchant raft, a small vessel loosely tied to this build. I plan to post the remaining chapters daily, one chapter per day. Chapters are grouped inside the hidden / spoiler area. I did this to make the scrolling through topic easier, there is simply too much images for one post. In addition to the first two chapters, let’s continue with Chapter 3 – The Island! 2. 6236 King Kahuka, also known as Indigo Chief's Throne, was released in 1994., and here is the modern redesign of the same, made and submitted for the LEGO Twist of Nostalgia challenge. DESCRIPTION Like the original, it's a tiny island with a throne but with the modern twist which includes a sacred treasure that has been hidden for generations. Rumor has it that the King has filled the caves throughout his realm with similar chests, all protected by a powerful voodoo magic against pirates and Imperial soldiers alike. To roam his realm, or simply go fishing in the clear blue waters around his island, Kahuka has at his disposal a stylish outrigger canoe (already seen on Tapu Island) Total parts: 250 - this was the challenge limit, do more with less, much like what we had with the Classic-Pirates Mini category for the last two years. INSPIRED BY "Unlike the lead figures from the Soldier and Guard factions, who tended to stick to the relative safety of higher-priced sets, the King was included in most of the Islander sets, including his own tiny 6263 King Kahuka. Kahuka was one of the few Pirates characters, along with Ironhook, Red Beard, and Broadside, to have his name featured in a set." This informative piece of writing comes from A Guide to the Pirates Mini-figures - Part IV, written and published by @Mister Phes and @TalonCard. This is a must read for anyone sailing this forum. 3. Greetings fellow Eurobricks members! It's 2024, everyone at LEGO is going into Space... even the Islanders! Kahuka-1 on approach! Kahuka-1 by Gregory Coquelz, on Flickr Thank you to the EB staff for organizing this fun contest and good luck to All!
  4. Aloha everyone! I am happy to present my entry in the category "Design a new Classic-Style set" - Big Kahuna's atoll Big Kahuna's atoll - Main view 2 by Gregory Coquelz, on Flickr Big Kahuna's atoll - Main view 1 by Gregory Coquelz, on Flickr Big Kahuna's atoll - the Moai by Gregory Coquelz, on Flickr I wanted to give the old Islanders sub-theme a proper homage, and this is the result or at least what I wish LEGO would do, if they ever wanted to revisit the theme and make a set that would look good next to the Barracuda Bay and the new Eldorado Fortress. I went all in with the colors, the wildlife... and tried to depict a little slice of island paradise. Thanks for watching, and best of luck to all in the contest!
  5. CALLING ALL LEGO MANIACS! Set your time machines for 1994! ************************************************************* We are delighted to introduce to you one of the most exciting sets from the new LEGO SYSTEM Indigo Islanders range. The Indigo Chief's Palace (set 6269) is located next to a hidden river and is filled with brilliant features. You'll find a narrow bridge to the Indigo Chief's throne room and a hidden treasure cave underneath. A mysterious statue guards the palace entrance from pirates who want to steal the treasure. Pirates who climb the ladder are in for a surprise: you can trigger a secret trap door and send them tumbling out of the mouth of the statue and into the river below, where the hungry crocodile waits. The Chief and two Islanders are included, as well as a canoe, chest of gold and pirate on a raft. Below are some pictures of the many thrilling adventures that await you in this new set. ************************************************************* Or, if you're in North America: Hey LEGO Maniacs! Check out the all new Islanders collection, with hidden coves, trick bridges, secret trap doors, and mysterious catamarans. It's enough to make your bricks spin! Only a LEGO Maniac like you can discover the Islanders' secrets. Check out the 6269 Islander Palace below, where the King, Queen, and palace guard protect their treasure from the thieving pirate! You can order the 6269 Islander Palace as well as all the other new Islanders sets from Shop at Home! We hope you enjoy this new set, and until next time, happy building!
  6. Presenting Short Pork Island. This is a modernisation loosely inspired by the Islanders sets of my youth. An older brother had pirate ships sure, but even the famed Black Seas Barracuda and it's fancy cannons stood no hope against our spears when we were small and plentiful. I say 'loosely' because this build had a bit of a journey - starting as a re-do of Enchanted island - but ending up as something else. Read the thread to get the gist. Short Pork Island is a heavily forested isle with (mandatory) ruins and treasure to catch the pirate's interest. A large foreboding statue features front and centre - with a smaller cute piggy sidekick at it's right hand. Is this a tribute to King Kahuka or some deity? To the rear of the Island features an Islander tree-hut, modernised to a six-sided palm tree design, replete with throne & shields & drum and food. I am a sucker for a good mechanical feature in a build, and in here we feature three main play features; 1) On the front of the stone statue you can tug one of the ears to drop whatever you've loaded up out the mouth - skulls, pineapples, jewels. 2) Turning the splat gear buried in the sand turns both the large staue, and the smaller pig statue roundaways to reveal a much more sinister pair of bone statues. 3) The ribcage of the larger statue opens at the front as a place to lock away captured scallywags. I hope the minifigs here speak for themselves for the most part. The tricorn pirate has a double-sided face - the backside is a shocked expression. Perfect for being jailed or having pineapples rain down upon him. The more folically-challenged scallywag is the torso with the large duck tattoo on the back. It should be noted that King Kahuka's pride and joy piglet is known as 'the Pig Kahuna'. Original Opening Post:
  7. Forbidden Cove. I remember buying this set when I was 9. Enchanted Island was out of the question. This was my consolation. I loved the rotating face. I loved that it had extra Islander hair (the Kahuka mask was awesome, but I already had him, I needed more soldiers). The happy sandy beaches, the imposing tropical tower. Good times. With so many others remaking Enchanted Island, and with so much time spent on Saber Island, I thought this would be a fun project. The thatched roof does work with real bricks, there can be a little tension on stray cactus pieces, but nothing worse than being stored in a plastic tub with 6000 other pieces. The frame holding it up is sturdy. Islander minifigures are sourced from the new Indiana Jones set. The triangle stonework is as well. I'm sure you'll notice several things. Yes, I took 90% of the Tiki mask from the new Indiana Jones set. Yes it is crooked. And no, I'm not sure what that red stuff is in the little pool. If you straighten the Tiki mask, a door to the cave opens up! Inside we have headless skeletons strewn around, some roots, and a golden treasure. With real bricks you'll want to grab x276 (Sun Disk from Amazon Ancient Ruins) or 73681 (Golden Idol from Indiana Jones), but since those models aren't in Stud.io I used a skull with metallic gold. If you turn the zebra-print drum on the back... The mouth opens! The gap is enough for a figure to squeeze through (2 studs wide by 4 bricks tall). There you have it. Flickr album is right here Rebrickable instructions will eventually be up. Got a few more contest builds first! Let me know what you think!
  8. For this contest I wanted to make something unique, LEGO already reintroduced Pirates with 21322 and now Imperial Guards with 10320 so we needed a 3rd faction. The Islanders, and what better set to remake than 6278/6292 Enchanted Island. This set has 1398 parts 8 minifigures (7 of them have new exclusive prints). I tried to keep as much of the original while using new parts and techniques. (my first version)
  9. G'teyr had been having a great morning. As dawn had broken in the village, he had set out for some spearfishing with his brother. Rutra had made eye contact and smiled at him when they passed her hut! He would make that woman his wife, he was sure of it. As they neared the shallow cove where he knew they would secure a fine catch, he saw something black on the sand ahead. A month earlier a strange ship had broken up far out to the horizon and ever since strange objects had been washing ashore. He thought to himself: This will make a good pot. ------------------------------- Colors used for base gradient: Sand Blue, Bright Light Blue, Medium Blue, Medium Nougat, Nougat, Sand Green, Dark Green
  10. Hey Checkout the update to my Lego Islanders themed anniversary set that is heavily inspired by the enchanted island statue which is now standing in a vibrant jungle environment. Please support this idea if you like it because I really need all the support to stay in the long game of getting 10k support and making this happen. SUPPORT NOW Islanders Spirit Beacon The islanders are a rare sight these days. It has been more than 20 years since the Islanders pointed spear and arrow at pirate and soldier alike. After many years of glorious combat the last of the proud warrior-zealots were defeated. Their strongest leader: shaman king Kahuka still walks the eternal planes. The Islanders enchanted island has been looted and pillaged, the tribes scattered to the winds. A beacon of hope remains deep in the jungle on one of the islands in the archipelago of many waters. A faceless warrior priestess of the old gods is gathering the scattered tribes. The whispers beneath her mask speaks of king Kahuka's return. Broken spears are mend, arrows sharpened, howling of restless spirits in the night. This "spirit beacon" is heavily inspired by the original statue design that came with the Lego Islanders enchanted island set 6278-1 in 1994. It's a scaled up version with many new details that is nice as a nostalgic reminder or as a new playset. The spirit beacon has multiple chunks that can be taken apart easily for different play configurations. The statue has a compartment in the back that can serve as a prison or inner sanctum. A trapdoor leads to a small dungeon compartment were captain cheekbones lurks A treasure chest is hidden behind the different detachable faces of the head. The remaining Islanders have adapted to use stealth instead of numbers, Therefore most of the warriors use the jungle mud and leaves to conceal themselves. Its probably problematic that they still use the same bright painted shields and faces :P The zealots and priestess paint themselves with the classic red paint of the Islanders They are worthy of invoking the spiritual essence that is embedded within the shrine of the beacon. Mini-figs as seen from left to right: Shaman king Kahuka's spirit, special translucent Islanders anniversary fig :) Faceless priestess, current leader, Zealot warrior; melee specialist, Scaled warrior; stealth specialist, Veteran warrior, defense specialist, Young blood warrior, endurance specialist, Man-hunter; path finding and ranged specialist, Captain cheekbones; annoyance specialist, Muddy Monkey, banana specialist. 12. The following creations were built to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the 1999 Lego Racers computer game. Pieces new and old have come together to form these newly revised versions of the 8 boss cars. Please enjoy! 1) Captain Redbeard As you can see, Captain Redbeard's new ride uses the microbuild of his ship from set #40290 as a base for this off-road beast of a racer. But it still retains the large exhausts and rear mounted pirate flag from his original car. The sails make this the tallest vehicle in the collection so far. .
  13. Hello, On the Lego World Builder website (https://worldbuilder.tongal.com) people can design their own new Lego Theme. If the design gets plenty of votes and LEGO likes it, then the new Lego World may actually be taken into production. Being a fan of Lego Pirate themes I figured LEGO can always do with a new Pirate Theme, especially one with a clear story line. Therefore I came up with the idea of a story about a young Redbeard before he lost his limbs and one of his eyes. Roger Crow, later to be known as Captain Redbeard, washes up on an unknown island. He cannot believe he has survived. After the initial shock he needs to explore the island to look for food. Doing so he discovers the island is not deserted but there is indeed human, and not so human, life. There are several villages with islanders and pirates, a lagoon where sometimes mermaids can be spotted, quite a few skeletons lying about and the spirits of doomed soldiers near the ruins of an imperial fort. I invite you all to visit the website and check out my work. Of course I would really appreciate it if you would give "Distant Shores" your vote. https://worldbuilder.tongal.com/world/6850b491-4611-4306-b1e5-765fa6d12a I somehow managed to upload two pictures that I did not really want to add, but I cannot get rid of them. I have tried. If somebody knows how to delete uploaded pictures, please let me know. For now please disregard the following images:
  14. Hi again , ome more creation for me its my Islander Hideout , i was never have an islander set for true but always love the minifigs , the colors and the baseplates from their sets. I try with some parts from the minifigs that i buy from Bricklink and some minifigs that i customized to make my Islanders!! The story of this Moc inspired me from my last moc with the barracuda island..." The islanders go to pirate bay and make some deal with their treasure but the pirates cheat them...For revenge they take with them one pirate and now the pirates go to Islanders Hideout and pay to get them back!!!
  15. 30 years after the disappearance of the Black Seas Barracuda, the pirates aboard this fabled vessel were rediscovered, stranded and shipwrecked at an atoll in the distant sea. But what became of these pirates' equally notorious rivals, King Kahuka and his islanders? Somewhere in the Bermuda Triangle, forgotten by civilization, the King and his tribesmen founded a new religion, following a cataclysmic event. This newly established Cargo Cult saw the King discard the totems of his old gods, and he now commanded his followers to embrace a new faith. After many laborious months, this Shrine was constructed, overlooking a once natural ravine. This holy place has now acquired deep religious significance for Kahuka and his tribe... IMG_20200524_130241 by Samarth Moray, on Flickr As always, PRAISE THE CARGO... but only if its MISB. IMG_20200524_130126_1 by Samarth Moray, on Flickr ------------------- The idea for this MOC came from wanting to use the parts from the supposedly rare Emirates airplane promotional set in a MOC. I am fond of how it thematically mirrors the Pirates of Barracuda Bay; while that set is pirates, this one is Islanders, and that set represents a wrecked ship while this MOC involves a wrecked plane. Hope you all like it and please comment if you do!
  16. Contrary to the lies Eslandolans are spreading to the Old world (probably to hinder our advance and occupation of these new lands), Oleanders aren't "savages". Well not the kind of savages that murder native population... After the initial unrest caused by the landing of our benevolent troops, which forced the natives into hiding, things calmed down. Hugo even took an (armored, you never know) bodyguard and visited a local village. Careful at first, the natives quickly opened up and they even offered a tour around the village showing the various aspects of their living. Hugo's mind filled with new stuff he never imagined possible. The thing that impressed him the most, was the way locals foraged some huge banana growing palm trees. They used trained monkeys tied with a rope that did all the hard work for them by climbing up the trees and bringing banana fruits to their handlers. Life had never been easier! Voila some natives in action. Once again forgive my photographing environment (my old trusted glass table on the balcony), since i haven't created a photo-booth with a white background yet. But these straw kind-of-fence, does the trick by transporting us to more exotic places, doesn't it? Close up
  17. <p>The pirate endured a terrific storm last night, in which their ship was dashed against the rocks. Many died, but quite a few swam to shore and the first mate is the last to make it off the boat. He briefly wonders what has happened to the crew (and why the rat is staying on the boat remains, surely they are the first to abandon ship?) but all these thoughts are pushed from his mind when he spots the islanders. Beautiful ladies with big smiles and that grinning chap seems alright too, friendly, ahhh he's saved.... IsleOfJewelsCloseUp, on Flickr First mate wades to shore, greeted by friendly locals ShipwreckedWithFriendlyNatives, on Flickr But all is not as it seems on this beautiful island, sure the islanders are the happiest people you will meet, but maybe its because they are preparing for the big feast of roasted pirate... char-grilled and slow roasted over the lava flow provided by the angry Volcano God. RoastPirates, on Flickr The brains are the best bit so its good to remove them from the body and eat them while they are fresh and if you don't keep up with the latest fashion in hairpieces you don't get to come to the feast so its important to get the first pick of the new bones! Brains and Bone Fashion[/url, on Flickr And most importantly of all sacrifices must be made to the mighty Volcano God to keep him happy. Many pirates are beheaded and thrown into his fiery crator (the Islanders keep the brains though). Volcanic Sacrifice, on Flickr Hope you like my entry of Happy Islanders at work! 18. Kahuka-21 As LEGO fans may know, islanders were 21 years old in 2015 (a pirates sub-theme 1994). And I'm 31. To celebrate that I represent my village of tee-pees with idol-robots from other planets whom native Americans worshiped as gods. You can see tee-pees with golden decorations, a magic defence circle and tombs of ancient chefs. Besides, LEGO group made a cool New Year present for me - this creation was accepted on the 31 of December as my 3d project in LEGO ideas. So please support and maybe you will play with it next year. The MOC is based on my previous MOC Attacking Kahuka's Village. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/121458 This is a link to the main image. additional ones will be uploaded in LEGO ideas in updates to illustrate some details. Happy 2016!!!
  19. The islanders of the new territories (discovered by brave Eslandolian sailors) are quite industrious. Their key profession is parrot-painting (one way to make a living as an islander...) As it stands, all parrots on the island are actually born with grey plumage. Only dedicated care and craftsmenship allow for the wonderful colours that we are so fond of. The work is usually performed by all family members with the mother starting the first red coating, the children adding more colour, before the father will be applying the final touches, using several colours, depending on bird type. By the way, the other key profession on the island is monkey-statue-making. But that is a different story. A decently skilled family can produce up to twenty parrots per day. You can find more pictures on bricksafe.
  20. Dear King Kahuna, bravest of the island (where Astrapi is located)! On behalf of the most serene, fabulous, modest, richest, kindest... blah blah blah... (that's what King Kahuna was listening by now)... we are here to make a statement! We know that you know someone who actually knows where the elusive Artifact of Zeus is hidden! So be a good boy, play nice and do tell us where the &#@$%^ artifact is! We do need it to blackmail our Zeus brothers for some nefarious purposes but that is of no concern to you... So what do you say? The meeting II The meeting V Chief of the Village (People) And the full build, Full view
