  1. Here is my latest MOC, a TIE/tb Torpedo Bomber, also known originally as Torpedo Launcher. TIE/tb Torpedo Bomber by Veynom, on Flickr Do not look for this TIE craft in any of the movies, anime, or comic books as you will not find it. It is based on the 3D model created in the early nineties par Marco SPitoni for his excellent animation fanfilm: " ". (Look from 27" and also in the credits)I then decided to build it using my bricks in order to complete and expand further my LEGO TIE collection. It provides structural strength and thanks to it, you can play with the TIE and replicate any kind of space combat.   2. After my TIE-Emancipator, here comes my rendering of the TIE-Defender, legendary spacecraft from the Star Wars expanded universe. TIE-Defender by Veynom, on Flickr Directly inspired from the 8087 Lego set, here is my attempt at the TIE-Defender. Originally, I merly wanted to slightly modify my 8087 in order to block the rotation of the cockpit. Ultimately, I rebuilt the TIE from scratch, one update after the other. TIE-Defender by Veynom, on Flickr As a consequence, my version is heavier and looks bulkier. However this only makes it more impressive.   3. Dear LEGO and Star Wars enthusiasts, I'm glad to present to you my first MOC attempt, Lord Vader's personal TIE advanced, made in February. Last December, due to TFA hype, I've rediscovered my long-dozing passion for Star Wars and so/also, after more than 12 years, I restarted to build Legos. I was very disappointed, though, by TLG's 8017, and so I decided to design & build a TIE advanced, one of my favorite iconic starships, on my own. A great help came from the new cockpit parts (and sketch) from 75082 (Inquisitor's TIE advanced), which made everything simpler. Also, after discovering EB, I was able to admire many great MOCs, and certainly was influenced by many of them (moreover, discovering bricklink was quite like finding a goldmine). I've tried my best to obtain a balance among movie accuracy, playability and extreme SWOOOOOSHability. The model is in minifig scale, and even if it's quite big (with respect to 8017 and 75150), it's very lightweight. Piece count is about 500. I hope these photographs will give you a quite faithful portrait of my model, anyway I find their lack of tridimensionality disturbing. (Imgur album: http://imgur.com/a/M62yW) As regards the wings/solar panels, I tried to make them look as streamlined as possible, in contrast with the popular thick-contoured solution as seen in 9492 TIE (I was happy to see that TLG used a very similar approach in set 75150, TIE advanced + A-wing from Rebels). Rear views: Having a closer look to the central "core": i decided to use those smooth quarter-of-half-sphere pieces for the rear part of the cockpit. To recreate the gradual emergence of the central rectangle on the back, i placed small sloped pieces by its side, as you can see. (You can see that the wing/solar panel attachments are really solid. In fact the model is extremely swooshable and it won't come apart even in performing the most extreme flying maneuvers :D :D) As regards the front of the cockpit, I tried my best to give it a spherical outline: Inside of the cockpit (partially disassembled to look better inside): And finally the underside, showing the play features: laser shooters, activated by sliding with a finger on the round valve, and the engine-hyperdrive compartment with a special place to clip Vader's lightsaber. Unfortunately, i'm missing the minifigure of Lord Vader himself. When i'll get one, i'll update this post with a photo of him inside the cockpit. I hope that you will appreciate my little model, and I can't wait to receive your feedback and suggestions. :)
  4. Here is a brick-built version of a MOC based on the MKI version of the excellent TIE-Emancipator from GuyDudeMan27. Compared to the original design, I made the following modifications: - The read body has been redesigned to be symmetrical; - Extra details have been added here and there; - Some color swapping depending on available parts in my stock; - Printed parts have been used for the cockpit or parts with stickers for other areas; - Wings supports have been re-enforced for playability & swoshability; - Some structural details were modified for sustainability and resistance to kids. [spoilers for the X-Wing series and Courtship of Princes Leia] The TIE Raptor or TIE/rpt was a starfighter design used by Warlord Zsinj's Empire during his reign from the Battle of Endor until his final defeat at the hands of the Hapan Royal Navy. A fast and manouverable design, it was not a regular SFS product like other TIE models, but was produced from Sienar components at the shipyards of Zsinj's hideout - Rancor Base - over Dathomir. Raptors are known to have participated in the battles of Vahaba and Selaggis, and were most likely used in many other missions and engagements, since Zsinj's elite troopers (also named Raptors) used them for space combat. The TIE/rpt was equipped with 4 laser cannons and 2 concussion missile launchers, but like most TIE models, lacked shielding, though some prototypes were produced. I admit my design is far from perfect, but I hope you still enjoy seeing my take on the Raptor.   6. Here's another TIE Interceptor. Comments welcomed! My idea behind this build was to have it: 1) be proportional according to "Blueprints of ships and vessels from the Star Wars franchise" 2) stand without too much support 3) match the style of LEGO set #9492 without compromising (1) and (2) I hope this explains the result. Scale: 3 studs per 1 meter, or about 1:42 scale. Coincidentally, it fits well with X-Wing set #9493 and Y-Wing set #9495 but not the A-Wing set #75003. This TIE pilot is wondering why the interior is so cramped, even though the exterior is clearly bigger than the original set #6206. Two 12-stud long technic axles extend deep into the cockpit to connect it with the wings. A closer look at one of the pylons: The pylon sections are held in place by octogons but otherwise the sections are not connected. This means a hard "roll" would cause the dagger wings to wiggle. I feel this needs to be fixed before it can do any serious space flight. What would you do here? Back view: I only learned recently that the cavity is supposed to be an hexagonal window. Really? Those ion engines must be really really small. Front view: The wingtip guns' main function is to keep the long gray "hypotenuse" tiles from rotating away from the wing (quite an embarrassing sight). Side view: The middle section of the wing is the most unfinished. You can see the technic axles extend all the way to the surface. An earlier iteration used the pulley wheel as a spacer between the pylon sections, which gave room for the obligatory round decorative tile with the TIE print. Unfortunately that lengthened the pylons and unstablized the wings. What would you do here? Due to the cockpit diameter of this particular build, I chose the windscreen from set #6206 instead of the dome from #9492. dream in bricks Shoutouts: The cockpit SNOT borrows heavily from 501st Commando's TIE, The 6ø dishes and octogon-based engines borrows from CCOOK's TIE, Other elements borrow from MOCs now buried deep down in the forums.   7. Hi all I did this mod quite a while back and meant to post it but somehow forgot. After recently having seen images of the new UCS TIE Fighter (which does have the rear viewport) I remembered about this mod of mine. It's nothing special and the model loses even more of it's "roundness" (what little there was to start with) but I was quite happy with it. I tried to use most of the parts in the set but the use of some extra parts was inevitable. If anybody wants to build it, it's a bit wobbly at the start but it's as stable as it was before once it's finished. Here's an LDCad render (sorry, I didn't take any pictures when I had built it) and I've attached an .ldr of the complete cockpit build. Cheers TIE Rear Viewport.ldr
  8. Using the ever-versatile 75082 set, which I believe is the first Interceptor on this site to do so (I've lurked). Previous MOCs I've seen using this set were for a TIE Fighter or Vader's Advanced TIE. UPDATE! VERSION 2 I've made major changes to the wings of this MOC to be better proportioned, detailed, and more accurate. The wing mid-sections are now 6 studs wide, while the wings themselves have been lengthened by one stud each, and pushed back. You can see the original version here:

  11. I've always loved the TIE Defender. Since I didn't have any TIE cockpit pieces at the time of this build, I just made a drone. The engines. I imagine it must be very fast.

Hey, my first review here... not sure if it's ok and if I actually CAN post a review here yet but if not - please moderate this :] So: Set Name: TIE Advanced Prototype Set #: 75082 Theme: Star Wars Pieces: 355 Minifigures: 3 Year of Release: 2015 MSRP: USD $39.99 I bought this set in a polish SMYK store yesterday (so a bit earlier than it was supposed to be out). I overpayed for it quite a lot but then again that's what "impulse-purchase" is all about :) Box/Instructions The box itself is quite nice. Not too big, not too small. Instructions are easy to read and pretty standard. There's a small sticker sheet as well, consisting of 6 small stickers. Parts There are 355 parts in this set. They're all pretty standard ranging from light-gray to dark-gray and black. Some red transparent bricks are also present. I think this set has a new part -> (sorry for being an ignorant) an L-shaped light-gray brick with no studs. You can see it on the stock pictures on "top" of the wings (I think it's called a "tile" ;] ). Other than that - the printed domes are also interesting pieces. Minifigures The figs are basically what should draw you to this set. The Inquisitor is AMAZING. It has a new helmet, shoulder-pads and a lightsaber. This fig is pure awesome. It's definitely a must for all the SW minifig collectors out there. You also get a TIE Pilot (I think it's a new fig as well - different helmet from the last TIE Fighter Pilot we had) and an Imperial Officer (which also has "new" tag on the box meaning it's an exclusive!. Pure Empire gold! The build The build is devided to 3 stages. Bag 1 - Cockpit. Bag 2 - "Wing-holders". Bag 3 - Wings. The build is rather fast and a bit repetetive as the wing-holders are basically a mirrored versions of each other and the wings are a build of x4 of the same thing. The completed model The model looks rather good. It has a flicker-cannons (?). You can open the glass dome and the top dome so you can put a minifig inside. The only issue I have with this model is the size of it comparing it to the last TIE Fighter. But then again when I look at -> <- it MIGHT actually be the right size. EDIT: One thing that you might find a bit annoying are the wings. They are NOT attached like in the old Vader's TIE meaning they don't have certain "steps" of possible arrangement if you know what I mean. Here you can fold the wings to whatever position you want (well.. "inside" at least). This means that if you open up the wings and put in on a table or whatever flat surface, they MIGHT fold back in a bit which will make the model fall. It's not really something that will make this model a NO, but still it's tad annoying. Overall opinion The model is nothing extraordinary. It's a standard TIE set and it will look good with the other TIEs in your collection. The minifigs tho, are a MUST! Minifigures: 10/10 Parts: 6/10 Build: 5/10 Price: 8/10 - I'll just say I found this set on an auction for 200 PLN (about 46 euros) and for that - it IS a pretty good price. Like I said, I did overpay for it at the local toy store. Design: 8/10 Playability: 9/10 Overall: 46/60 = 77%

  14. I've been away for a little while (again), but I've been busily working on some designs for my UCS TIE project. First up is a model I had been avoiding for a long while, the iconic standard TIE Fighter. Overall I really like this design, but the cockpit ball could use some work. It's decidedly more curved than any other TIE I've done, but is a bit too cylindrical, as opposed to spherical like it should be. I really don't like the sloped method used by TLG in the official TIE Interceptor and TIE Advanced, and this curved method allows for a SNOTed pylon, which I really like a lot. Once the venerable TIE Fighter was done, it opened up a lot of variations on the theme. Like the TIE Experimental M1. And the TIE Experimental M2. And once I had started doing TIE Experimentals, I just had to do all of them. TIE Experimental M3 TIE Experimental M4 TIE Experimental M5 And then I realized that the M3 was the perfect starting point for the Emporer's Royal Guard Interceptor Next came one of my favorite TIE variants, the Lancet Aerial Bombardment. Needing a break from the starfighters, I next moved on to the TIE AP-1, also known as the TIE Mauler. And that led into the Century Tank, or TIE Crawler. I did a few of the odd-ball shaped TIEs next, the TIE Lambda and the TIE Raptor. At this point I returned to the standard TIE variants, starting with the TIE Fire Control. Followed by the TIE Reconnaissance, and the TIE Ground Targeting. Next up is one of the more unique shaped TIEs, the TIE Scout. Then for something completely different, the TIE Neutralizer. It was finally time to tackle the Bomber variants, starting with the TIE Electronic Warfare. Then came the TIE Heavy Bomber the TIE Interdictor the TIE Hammer and finally the TIE Lander The Lander needed two renders, just to shhow off the landing skids I had designed. The TIE Shadow Squadron was next on my radar. After that came the TIE Sentinel Then I finished up the Standard TIE variants with the TIE Vanguard and 'completed' the TIE project with the Nsiss Chiss-Class Clawcraft. I say 'completed' because, even though I've created a model for every variant I intend to, there is always room to improve them. So I looked at the older models I had made, and realized that they didn't age well next to the new methods I was using now. So I set about re-designing them. First was the TIE Bomber the TIE Boarding Craft and the TIE Shuttle. The TIE Predator got a cockpit update, but I couldn't find a combination of slopes that I liked for the wings, so the old design has to do. The trio of the TIE Clutch TIE Phantom and TIE Shadow received updates, though the main hulls remained from the old versions. The last five all received complete make-overs, starting with the TIE Hunter. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a mechanism to make the wings open and close. Then came the TIE Avenger TIE Aggressor TIE Oppressor and last but not least, the TIE Torpedo Bomber The only two original models that have not gotten a facelift are the Scimitar Bomber and the TIE Droid The Droid's wing angle makes it very difficult to brick-build the wings while keeping the pylons from looking like crap warmed over. The Scimitar's complex wing design doesn't lend itself readily to a brick-built design, and the hull I am extremely happy with. None of these new designs have been built yet. I believe I have ordered all of the parts for my interpretation of the TIE Defender. Stay tuned, as soon as the parts arrive I will begin construction.   18. Sullust. At least it isn’t as cold as Hoth. But the volcanic smoke has made a lot of patrolling missions a whole lot more difficult. Take KQ-351, now restoring in the sick bay after almost suffocating due to a minor failure in his ventilation system. Am I glad this base isn’t built near to any major streams of lava. That would be excellent for defence, but highly impractical… On the other side, this base doesn’t seem to be built to keep anyone out in the first place. Sure, the solid rock walls, the few but strong gates and the narrow entrances are good to keep people inside, but there isn’t much protection from attackers. [soNE Ep. IV] Eye on the skies by Bert.VR, on Flickr It was built when just the thought of attacking the Empire would have made everybody laugh. It was built when there was no real Rebellion trying to crack into it. When everything was peaceful… The main services got a place on the roof. Good for communications. Bad for protection. Cannons? Nowhere to see… So it’s up to us to defend the base. The pilots will have to save the day. The AT-AT pilots on the ground, the TIE pilots in the air. We’ll keep the forces of the Rebellion off, while our friends on the inside will stop the infiltrators. My rank got me this position at the main gate. Destroy everything that tries to get in, they said, until the backup arrives. So my eyes are scanning the air, in the hope of seeing reinforcements, in the expectation of seeing a horde of Rebel fighters. [soNE Ep. IV] Ground reinforcements by Bert.VR, on Flickr At least I’m not alone to stop that filth of the galaxy. Every pilot has been summoned. So I’m not the only one to stand up against this brutal Rebel attack. It will be a lonely battle though. In this atmosphere communication is hard, and in fear of abuse by the Rebel infiltrators, all communication has been abandoned after the distress call to our fleet. Look, there’s one of my colleagues in his TIE flying by, from the other side of the cliff where the hangar bay is. He’s heading for… the sky? Why isn’t he on his post in the first place? It could be a reconnaissance mission, but why? We have our detection equipment right here. We already know the place. And why doesn’t a take our usual routes? Why is he flying like a wampa anyway? Whoever it is, I… It might be a Rebel… And I pull the trigger. My instinct is a good shooter. Smoke coming from the crucial wing section, the TIE goes down. It disappears behind the rocks, where it will most certainly perish in the lava. [soNE Ep. IV] Every shot makes two victims by Bert.VR, on Flickr It might have been a friend… No… the thought petrifies me. But how? How could it have been a friend? That’s impossible. Why would he abandon his post? Why would he fly like that… No, it can not… may not… have been a friend. Surely, I have done what was best. There might be hundreds of explanations. A reconnaissance mission because our equipment failed, an emergency evacuation, some kind of special mission… or just a foolish act of heroism by a rookie. Is there another explanation? Couldn’t ir really have been a Rebel. Who somehow got past all security. But how? Who somehow managed to get away with a TIE fighter. Impossible, isn’t it? Aren’t all TIE fighters in the air? Except… KQ-351’s. Hope. Despair. I’m a hero I’m a murderer . I’ll never know. The wreckage will never be found. People will go missing today. Fighters will perish today. Who knows what chaos the upcoming battle brings. And what chaos might follow. I’ll never know if I did the right thing. Nobody’ll ever know. Nobody even saw it happen. Nobody goes through the same hell as I. No one to talk to. I’m alone with a killer. [soNE Ep. IV] What have I done? by Bert.VR, on Flickr Only now I see what this war is taking. I’ve killed before, but only now I realize I remember every single deadly shot I fired. Twelve. I already took the life of twelve people. People just like me. Friend or foe, I killed twelve people. I’ve killed myself twelve times. What’s left of me? I’m only a human. And humans are not made to kill. Whether I just shot down a Rebel or an Imperial, I’m still a murderer. And I can’t undo that. That’s what this war has turned me into. Not into a hero. Into a murderer. There are no heroes. Not in battle. I won’t claim a medal for what I’ve done. All I can do, is go on. Go on and end this war. I need to do the best I can to stop this war. Even if I’ll have to kill again. This war has to be stopped. And if battle is what it takes, so be it. I hope that one day, this war ends with throwing away weapons. That not the Rebellion, not the Empire wins, but peace. But that’s a thing for heroes. I’m just a simple pilot. All I can do is choose the lesser evil. Either way, I’ll have to kill again. I’ll have to kill others. I’ll have to kill myself again. But that’s the only way. Now that I’ve took this road, I can’t go back. I can only go on to be the victim of my own shots. _________________ OoC: LDD file here One more picture of the gate available on my Flickr Not everything is connected, bacause that's (nearly) impossible in LDD. Those Technic axles in the rock pillars aren't connected to each other, but in real life a (LEGO) grey rubber band should do the trick. Trust me, I tried it out. Same goes for the smallest tires in the smoke, that just hang on the bar. Also, I'm not entirely sure about the rigidity of the rock wall. I did add in some Technic support, but in LDD it's really hard to work with all those angled surfaces. Also, I used a couple of 2x2 dark tan plates, that never appeared in a Lego set, but are available on bricklink. I hope these aren't any major issues, and that you still can enjoy the build.
  19. “We have located a site that might be suitable for the generator,” they said, “but our sensors can’t get a very detailed view of it. Go check it out” So here I am, surfing over the forest of the green moon in my TIE Bomber. And not a tiny bit regretful to be away from battle for this one time. I still need time since… since Sullust. Being away from war, some nature, no killing to do… that will surely clear my mind. My computer says I’m approaching my target location. Not much to see here, except form those tightly packed trees that populate this planet like skyscrapers on Coruscant, making it nearly impossible to reach most places. But they say this particular position offers some kind of tactical advantage. Well, let’s find out. Let’s ready some seismic bombs to clear the area to get a closer look. Let’s pull the trigger, and bombs away… A strange feeling overwhelms me… pulling that trigger… Two loud explosions resonate through the forest. It shivers and trembles as if it’s frightenend. When the last dry creaks and dust settle into silence, the wound becomes apparent. Like the footprint of a giant, all forest has fled away from a gaping patch of destruction. Slowly and carefully I manoeuvre my craft to my newly created landing site. I shut down the engines, and all is silent. [soNE Ep. Respecting the victims of this unfair battle, I silently unload the analysing equipment. Now it’s just waiting for the long analysis to end. I must be staring back. The creature begins walking towards me, muttering, accelerating, raising its spear. It comes running at me, suddenly silent, with a look of determination. I already have my blaster in my hands, and I’m ready to pull the… No… not again… I’m acting on instinct now, but somehow something in me – the human in me - is powerful enough to set the blaster to stun just in time. And I pull. The creature stops, and with a look of anger crashes down on the ground. I’m deeply impressed. This might have been my very first shot where I wasn’t the victim of. Instead of blindly shooting, I finally did what is right. Not what’s right according to the instructor of the academy, but what feels right. I’ve spared the life of an innocent creature that had nothing to do with this war. This is what it feels like to be a hero. Heroes must be the ones that know when not to pull the trigger. It seems that I’ve done something good in this horrible war. That uncertainty of the past couple of months… gone. I am a good person after all. I almost want to thank that creature for attacking me… But why would it attack me? Sure, it might have been confused after the blast. Perhaps I destroyed a part of its home. But whatever it was, at least no one died today. No collateral damage this time. Instead, I gently put the unconscious creature in a bed of ferns. A beep from the analysing equipment indicates that it is time for a second sample. With a renewed bounce in my step, I begin to pull it to the other side of the landing site. I stop when I discover a path between the plants. This must be where the creature came from. It goes straight into the forest, until it’s blocked by that tree, where… It can’t be… It may not be… What have I done… My legs give away, and for who knows how long, I just sit there, staring into the distance. [soNE Ep. V] No... not again by Bert.VR, on Flickr I have killed once more. Another creature couldn’t get away in time and was buried beneath a tree. Only its tiny legs remain. And it’s my fault. This time, I caused a fluffy tragedy. I have become as despicable as those who I always despised. Who was I to think I’m a good person after all. This time, it wasn’t even a foe. Not even a friend. The creature had nothing to do with this war we’re fighting. It never accepted the risk of getting killed for its cause. And yet it perished in this war. They call it collateral damage. As if it is not at all important and can just be ignored. This creature, these trees with all the invisible but beautiful life. Just collateral damage. How absurd. Everything that I’ve been telling myself in the past is simply invalid. Nothing is trivial in a war. And not a thing that you do isn’t your responsibility. That’s the thing about war. You start and fight with only your goal in mind. And then you even begin to forget that and only think war… war… war… You don’t see what happens. Well, you don’t see what really happens. You’re not clearing a landing site. You’re destroying age-old fauna and flora. You’re not stopping the enemy. You take the life of a living being. You’re not a hero. You’re a monster. War clouds your mind with brutality. War is blinding. I kept telling myself I could go on with this war, as long as it didn’t involve direct battle. But I was wrong. How can I participate in such an act of collective and destructive blindness, even with trivial acts? This small… small and everything but unimportant event… it uprooted my entire way of thinking about this war. Just like this tree, it was firm once. But one big blast threw it over, causing death and destruction… On the other hand, once the dust has cleared up, new light reaches the soil, and new beautiful things get a chance to grow. Once, I firmly believed in the good of this war, perhaps even without any good reason. I shot, I bombed for it. And my own acts, my own shots I fired, my own bombs I dropped, blew me away. Seeing all the damage I’ve done, all the sorrow I’ve dealt, I lost those roots. And nothing but a wreck remains. Immobile, without any purpose. But new lights starts sipping into my mind. What good is it to leave this war? It will still be as destructive. That’s no way to repay for all that I’ve done. I must end this war without one spill of blood. War will be the only victim of my further deeds. Only then will all of this get a meaning. But how? How can I end this war without damage for my friends and without damage for my foes? What’s good for one, is bad for the other. It’s impossible. I’m just a simple pilot, I have no power. But what about these inspired moments... when I refuse to kill a creature that’s attacking me. Maybe not all is lost after all. When the new tiny plants bath in fresh sunlight, maybe then I will be strong enough to do something. But now, those little plants are fragile… and the eclipse of war is still glooming. But through losing my roots, I think I’ve finally found firm ground. I’m not happy. Just determined. But still sad. The data of the analysing equipment indicate that this site isn’t fit for construction. Maybe it’s for the better: this place might find rest again. But then what was the meaning of all this? That’s the question I have to answer. I feel weak. [soNE Ep. At the beginning of the year, I was not very excited by the release of the sith fury class interseptor, but lately I was caught by the consumist frenzy and got my hands on one of them, when I finished building it, I realized how much it resemble to one of my all time favorite fighters, the TIE avenger, so I decided to disassemble it partially and turn it into a more OT related MOC.   23. What is a TIE Imposer you ask? Well, this: So, obviously something completely made up! That's what it looks like in its combat mode. This is its flight mode: I also made a video, which is easier than reading! (please pardon the amatuer style) The design of this was obviously heavily inspired by Kylo Ren's Command Shuttle, as well as possibly an enemy from Galaga or something? Not sure. I originally sketched out the wing shape on a piece of scrap paper while bored at work, then filled the rest in when I started designing. For those who can't watch the video for whatever reason, I'll recap some things. The "transforming" feature of the wings is facilitated by those heavy-duty ratcheted technic joints typically in use in things like the AT-AT. So they hold very well, but make for a somewhat strenuous movement (for the model especially). The side guns are using locking turntables, the large brick-sized sort that come available in a few more colors than just black and white but are somewhat hard to come by. The hull itself uses much of the same build as the Advanced Prototype 75082 set, with some colors switched out. The knob-turning missile-firing feature has been retained, much like with my TIE Interceptor, although extended quite a bit further back. And yes, it's swooshable!   24. I was thrilled to death when I found out this had been accepted into the new canon. It's just such a cool ship, way more advanced than any other TIE, and completely awesome looking on top of it all. That realization just made me want this set all the more, but the original model is marred by a number of substantial flaws. So how about a before-and-after? Re-familiarize yourself with the original TIE Defender, a set I hardly ever see anyone talk about anymore. Before (click to enlarge) The original model definitely has the look (please excuse the ugly hairy appendage). The proportions and everything are good and the structural integrity is decent for the most part. You might say it's a little chunky looking, but it's hard to fault it much for that. Here's a close-up of one of the wings. It's simplistic almost to a fault. The 1x2 grills just don't work as wing frame braces, almost conveying a "pixelated" appearance from an old Atari game. The model also sported a swivelling cockpit, ala B-Wing. You could pivot the wings around in any angle, which looks cool but AFAIK is a complete fabrication on Lego's part on the actual capabilities of the craft. Here you see the pilot, awkwardly sitting inside of a completely featureless cockpit with no controls. Maybe he was trained by a Sith and controls the ship using the Force? After The new-and-improved TIE Defender. A close-up of the wings with a complete frame all the way around, and added center detail. Slightly modified cockpit. It now sits in a fixed position and no longer swivels independent of the wings. The pilot sitting with his new kitted-out flight controls! The "yoke" is the same used on the latest TIE sets. The original model cockpit opened from the top -- the roof and front dome all one piece. It was LAUGHABLY fragile, using a ratcheted hinge that was much too strong for its limited support. A much smoother, wider hinge is now used at the bottom -- WAY more durable and a much more silky movement. --------------------------------- The TIE Defender is an amazing Imperial craft. It looks wicked, and has that too-good-to-be-true, almost fanfiction quality that you often see of Extended Universe creations in how seemingly invincible it is. The fact that the powers-that-be smiled upon it, and grandfathered it into the current canon via Star Wars: Commander is such an awesome move, and allows collectors of strictly "official" storyline Star Wars sets an excuse to add this one in with open arms. Hopefully it will start getting more attention now, and who knows? It might even make a cinematic appearance in one of the side-story movies!
  25. I think this may be my first real post in this forum, so hello everyone, I'm Brian, aka Bootz. I've recently started seriously collecting SW sets again after a long while of favoring my modular buildings and City sets for my town layout. Last week I purchased the 75082 TIE Advanced prototype with the intention of turning it into an Interceptor (plus I wanted the figs). Since I was snowed in last night, I took it as an opportunity to build the Interceptor I've always wanted but TLG hasn't made in forever. The cockpit is essentially unchanged from the official set, of course I deleted the "Advanced" body to strip it down to just an eyeball, but otherwise I left the design as is. The wings make use of several FO TIE and T-70 polybags that now I don't feel so stupid for buying so many of. The overall shape is as close to the real thing as I wanted to get. They're a tad too long towards the rear but I feel that they look right. The hinges are the same as the Advanced prototype, so there's no chance of them supporting the weight of the model without collapsing, hence the makeshift stand. They do however "click" into place when extended like you see here, and they stay in position while swooshing. With all my builds I aim to retain swooshability and this model is exceptional in that regard. I also kept the missile launchers of the official set with the rotating back of the cockpit as the firing mechanism. It doesn't look great from behind but it's fun to shoot things and the mechanism is very slick to use. My A-wing started as mostly a recolor of the green RZ-1 from the Mon Calamari Cruiser set, but by the time I was done I realize it looked more like the Ralph McQuarrie inspired A-wings seen in Rebels. I'm very pleased with the overall shape, I wanted to capture the rounded hull as best I could while sticking close to the official models and average building techniques. The engines aren't quite accurate, but I instantly loved the way those round pieces looked there.
