  1. When building Bionicle MOCs, I'm the kind of person who often starts by seeing a particular piece or two and then decides to build the whole thing around that piece; this build is no different. I started by trying to make a generic Toa frame, but stumbled across the Av-Matoran leg in the parts section- you know, that piece so hated by so many G1 Bionicle fans? I decided that I should try to put it to good use! Gallery when public: http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=565293 Despite the generic name- sorry, I'm not too good at coming up with names on the fly- Claw Beast has a pretty interesting, albeit somewhat simple, build. In order to accommodate both the dual Av-Matoran legs and the gearbox, I had to make some extra space toward the back. Normally, a Technic beam would accomplish what I wanted, but I'm not that kind of person; I wanted something more unique than what I usually do! So I just stuck a Protector torso to the back and called it a day. The addition of this piece, along with the Av-Matoran legs, afforded some interesting possibilities: though I had intended the leg pieces to hold some sort of armor, with the leg joints of the larger torso being the actual legs of the creature, eventually, I reversed this decision as I was putting the torso armor on, realizing how impractical that would be, along with the fact that the weird shape of the Av-Matoran legs make such a connection possible simplistically. With both the frontal armor and the Av-Matoran legs in the way, the available joints of the Protector torso became the perfect spot to put another set of arms with wide enough spacing from the upper arms as to not impede motion significantly. However, due to all the added bulk, the sides of the gearbox had to be widened as to allow the arms some distance (they should be able to move as long as they're not completely vertical). I finished off the build with the feet and head, both which were intended to be somewhat avian in design to suggest that this creature might just be a mutated bird. More pictures below.
  2. I made some much needed improvements since the original post. So I figured it warranted a new topic for them. So without further ado here they are Gali http://www.brickshel...5/Toa/gali1.jpg http://www.brickshel...5/Toa/gali5.jpg (With Kivoda and Gold Mask on stand) http://www.brickshel...5/Toa/gali6.jpg (Wearing Gold Mask and secondary weapon function) http://www.brickshel...5/Toa/gali7.jpg (Vs Skull Strika) Kopaka http://www.brickshel...Toa/kopaka1.jpg http://www.brickshel...Toa/kopaka5.jpg (With Izotor and Gold Mask on stand) http://www.brickshel...Toa/kopaka6.jpg (Wearing Gold Mask and secondary weapon function) http://www.brickshel...Toa/kopaka7.jpg (Vs Skull Warrior) Lewa http://www.brickshel.../Toa/lewa01.jpg http://www.brickshel.../Toa/lewa05.jpg (With Vizuna and Gold Mask on stand) http://www.brickshel.../Toa/lewa06.jpg (Wearing Gold Mask and secondary weapon function) http://www.brickshel.../Toa/lewa07.jpg (Vs Skull Slicer) Onua http://www.brickshel.../Toa/onua01.jpg http://www.brickshel.../Toa/onua05.jpg (With Korgot and Gold Mask on stand) http://www.brickshel.../Toa/onua06.jpg (Wearing Gold Mask and secondary weapon function) http://www.brickshel.../Toa/onua07.jpg (Vs Skull Basher) Pohatu http://www.brickshel...Toa/pohatu1.jpg http://www.brickshel...Toa/pohatu5.jpg (With Nilkuu and Gold Mask on stand) http://www.brickshel...Toa/pohatu6.jpg (Wearing Gold Mask and secondary weapon function) http://www.brickshel...Toa/pohatu7.jpg (Vs Skull Scorpio) Tahu http://www.brickshel...5/Toa/tahu1.jpg http://www.brickshel...ahu5.jpg (With Narmoto and Gold Mask on stand) http://www.brickshel...5/Toa/tahu6.jpg (Wearing Gold Mask and secondary weapon function) http://www.brickshel...5/Toa/tahu7.jpg (Vs Kulta fighting alongside Protector Mask Ekimu) Group Shot http://www.brickshel...015/Toa/toa.jpg More pictures in the gallery http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=564494
  3. As you may have guessed by now, this is my first entry for the Rebrick Makuta Contest. My Makuta build itself was feeling a little "typical" with its small Toa size, simple build, and typical Makuta colors. To rectify this though, I had the vision of giving Makuta a vehicle of some sort, and he ended up with a Chariot that cobbled together a multitude of G1 and Technic pieces. Including a few G1 pieces alongside the CCBS parts was one of my building goals. I also built my first proper photo set up for the contest to get proper pictures. Unfortunately even then my build was to big to get a horizontal angled shot with a proper full white backdrop... I am considering a few more entries for the contest, but I fear that going bigger will just ruin my chance to use the photo booth I just barely built! Yes as I said before, my Makuta is actually just Toa sized, sharing a lot with the 2015 Toa. I like his look, but he doesn't seem as 'flashy' as some of the other contest entries. His reserved design though was intentionally done though to make him look like a "What Could have Been" Makuta retail set. Can you spot the G1 pieces? I am digging the ease of posebility in the smaller figure though! Try doing this with your monster sized titan! While the Skullie is a little cliche, I am in love with the greebled garbled look of the chariot. The Old G1 pieces really help create an 'underworld' look that I don't know if it could be achieved as easily with CCBS. For the most part this MOC is actually a combiner model, using pieces from Mask Maker vs. Skull Grinder, Umarak the Hunter, Onua Master of Earth, Pohatu Master of Stone, Skull Warrior, and the classic Vezon and Fenrahk. The wheels and plates on the chariot come from a Technic Off Road Crawler, and the G1 Manas set. You might notice I am using a hidden leg to support the chariot rather than place pressure on the wheels. The wheels can hold the model, but for static display I prefer to use the 'kickstand' leg. The chariot also has some spots to mount G2 masks on it, as if Makuta is hauling away the masks of his victims... I hope you enjoyed my entry. I am highly considering a few more Makuta builds so time will tell if I end up having quite the 'Makuta Club' to enter this contest! Thanks for looking! Please visit the actual contest entry here: http://www.lego.com/...sortEntry=false
  4. What would you like to see in future sets? I'd like to see something less humanoid and more 'alien', something that's not really any existing creature nor resembling a humanoid.
  5. A graceful Bionicle swordfighter I built this week. I haven't really come up with a story for her. She mostly just evolved out of an assortment of building techniques I'd been fiddling around with. ___ ______ ______ Flickr album Please feel free to share any comments, criticisms, or questions you might have!
  6. So, I've been thinking of making and selling custom LEGO sets for money like many do, namely focusing on CCBS. However, I don't have that much to go on. Does anyone have a good guide or advice on getting started? Please let me know and share what you have. (Or move this if it is in the wrong place.)
  7. I longed to make a MOC of my favorite OC anti-hero. And now, thanks to New Years which brought us Darth Vader, me and Demitsorou finally managed to tear almost all of our Bionicle sets apart to assemble him. Master of Pain by Artemiy Karpinskiy, on Flickr Kahlahnee is an OC of mine, a cursed Toa of Ice hailing from the twisted realm of Karzahni. Its ruler have crafted a powerful Mask of Suffering as a punishment for Kahlahnee's uncontrollable violent outbursts, which were the reason he's been sent to Karzahni in the first place. His weapon is a baseball bat. Don't ask me why.
  8. Gallery The Great Scorpion is My Own Creation I built in LDD. However, it's possible to recreate it with real pieces.
  9. Hi there, it's my new OC I've built recently. Took me 2 days to finish. Hope you like it. Highres on my Flickr Any comment is appreciated.
  10. SEA SIREN A viciously territorial creature from the water region of Okoto. The Sea Siren uses its beautiful singing voice to lure in its prey. Front - Pose Back - Pose Sea Siren uses a tail-flapping mechanism devised by ToaLeewan. Demonstration video here.
  11. TOA TAHAE Once a lowly thief, Tahae was transformed into a mighty Toa by a mysterious relic she had stolen. She uses her new-found power to control and intimidate. Front Back Pose Weaponry Toa Tahae utilises ToaLeewan's LW1 gearbox design, and uses pieces from the XSZ Iron Patriot figure.
  12. SHOGUN TAHU An anime-inspired re-imagining of prolific Toa, Tahu. Front Back Skeleton - Front Skeleton - Back Shogun Tahu utilises the LW2 gearbox.
  13. SKULL SORCERER A resurrected magician from a bygone age, filled with nothing but ill intentions. Pose Front Back Back details Skull Sorcerer uses trans. purple snowflake pieces from 41062 Elsa's Sparkling Ice Castle, and a trans. purple chain from 41075 The Elves' Treetop Hideaway. The trans. purple glittered cone pieces are in various Friends, Elves and Disney Princesses sets.
  14. Ah, the humble gear mechanism. From as early as 1999, a gearbox has been something which has defined a Lego action figure, and arguably made it whole. Although they had an extensive hiatus, gearboxes have returned to constraction in a big way. Many MOCists are taking inspiration from the reboot of Bionicle, and are mechanising their custom creations. Some, however, aren't just using the gearboxes the Danish gods provided them with. Custom gearboxes have hit the scene, allowing for more unique functionality and animation. Ingenious methods of motion are being integrated into models which would otherwise stand static. This thread is for you to share your own custom gearboxes, or work together with other users to develop new ideas. I'll start off by sharing a few of my designs. LW2 - Designed for stability on larger figures. LW1 (not its official name) is a gearbox coined by ToaLeewan, and is the core design the LW2 adapts upon. I have used this on several models, the first being G2 Umbra. SL1 - Designed to mimic the functionality of the Slizers. Rather superfluous, but still a fun experiment. K1 - Designed for back and forth shoulder motion, which realigns via an elastic band. I've only used this on Kaikohuru. MG1 - For use on smaller figures that use the 'XT4' frame.
  15. Just some mods of my favorite Chima CCBS sets from both waves. Gallery- http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=560290 Starting with Chi Sir Fangar His changes are a more symmetrical build and a mod to his back spikes to remove the action feature they had to make them look more natural. http://www.brickshel...s/fangar001.jpg http://www.brickshel...s/fangar002.jpg http://www.brickshel...s/fangar003.jpg http://www.brickshel...s/fangar004.jpg http://www.brickshel...s/fangar005.jpg http://www.brickshel...s/fangar006.jpg Next up is Chi Laval His changes are poseable hands. Shoulder armor the 2014 Chima torso, gold beast feet with claws and a tail http://www.brickshel...ds/laval001.jpg http://www.brickshel...ds/laval002.jpg http://www.brickshel...ds/laval003.jpg http://www.brickshel...ds/laval004.jpg http://www.brickshel...ds/laval005.jpg http://www.brickshel...ds/laval006.jpg I also made his Fire Chi version but the above one is how I keep him built http://www.brickshel...ds/laval007.jpg http://www.brickshel...ds/laval008.jpg http://www.brickshel...ds/laval009.jpg http://www.brickshel...ds/laval010.jpg http://www.brickshel...ds/laval011.jpg http://www.brickshel...ds/laval012.jpg Next up is Chi Mungus His changes are removing the white and adding as many Reddish Brown parts as possible. I also made him look more bulky and gave him a tail and a longer trunk. http://www.brickshel...s/mungus001.jpg http://www.brickshel...s/mungus002.jpg http://www.brickshel...s/mungus003.jpg http://www.brickshel...s/mungus004.jpg http://www.brickshel...s/mungus005.jpg I had originally wanted to use Humongousaur's arm for a trunk for Mungus but it didn't look to good. Here is a picture of him with it though just to show how bad it looked. http://www.brickshel...s/mungus006.jpg Last up is Chi Razar His changes are giving him his hook hand. More purple. Bigger wings and a tail along with using Shadow Matoran feet for his talons. http://www.brickshel...ds/razar001.jpg http://www.brickshel...ds/razar002.jpg http://www.brickshel...ds/razar003.jpg http://www.brickshel...ds/razar004.jpg http://www.brickshel...ds/razar005.jpg http://www.brickshel...ds/razar006.jpg I had also made mods of all the other sets in LDD but do to a lack of the Chima Ultrabuild heads and chestplates. I'll only post the LXF files if you really want them. Comments and criticism appreciated
  16. Skull Scorpio is an underrated set in my opinion. Sure it has its flaws but I really liked it. So I've come up with a few alternate designs that you can use to improve your Skull Scorpio set. Gallery when public: http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=560545 Here is an Lxf file of all the different builds. I will update with 2015 bionicle parts if/when LDD Updates. For now I just use replacements in the LDD version. http://www.brickshel...scorpio_mod.lxf First are two different leg designs. One is more like the original and one is similar to LOSS. Both sets of legs have posability. These pictures also show off the new torso I made for Skull Scorpio. http://www.brickshel...rpio_legs_1.jpg http://www.brickshel...rpio_legs_2.jpg http://www.brickshel...rpio_legs_3.jpg http://www.brickshel...rpio_legs_4.jpg http://www.brickshel...pio_legs_5.jpg. http://www.brickshel...rpio_legs_6.jpg http://www.brickshel...rpio_legs_7.jpg http://www.brickshel...rpio_legs_8.jpg http://www.brickshel...rpio_legs_9.jpg http://www.brickshel...pio_legs_10.jpg Next are 3 different claw designs. One of them being the original just without the transparent orange. The third one was slightly inspired by TheDesuComplex http://www.brickshel...pio_claws_1.jpg http://www.brickshel...pio_claws_2.jpg http://www.brickshel...pio_claws_3.jpg Next is two different shoulder designs. One with the arms out and one that brings the arms in close like the original set http://www.brickshel...rpio_arms_1.jpg http://www.brickshel...rpio_arms_2.jpg Last up is the tail. I had a few alternate designs in mind until I came up with these four. The first one is the original just modified to be a bit smaller. http://www.brickshel...rpio_tail_1.jpg The second one was inspired by LoganMcOwen's one http://www.brickshel...rpio_tail_2.jpg The third one is just a standard scorpion tail using the skull villain sword http://www.brickshel...rpio_tail_3.jpg The last one is my favorite. Its a slightly modified version of the one TheScorpionStrike did. Here is his video of how the tail function works And the picture of my version http://www.brickshel...rpio_tail_4.jpg The final pic is how I have my Skull Scorpion displayed just without Pohutu's drained mask . I added that in for effect http://www.brickshel...scorpio_mod.jpg
  17. Ahh, the magnificent Lord of Skull Spiders. Many thought he was a rather weak set, sacrificing playability and some aesthetic appeal for fairly boring function. Recently, I've been playing around with system-based action figures, and, after seeing all these skull army creations pop up again, I decided to make my own version of him. I decided to make him more spiderlike, with the face of a jumping spider, the horns of a jewelled spider and of course, all eight legs, two spinnerets and two pedipalps. I made the pedipalps the smaller, female morph because I figured that, if they're too small to even be depicted in the actual set, they shouldn't actually be bulky in my MOC. Features string-shooting stud blaster spinnerets, 41 points of articulation and a stand which is supposed to hold the golden mask of skull spiders, although LDD lacks it. As far as I can tell, he's fully buildable. A better look at the stud shooter spinnerets and back. Ventral view of the big spider and his shiny. Comments and criticism appreciated!
  18. Since its introduction in 2011 CCBS has evolved in many interesting ways that, especially since 2014, allowed us to understand how far can the system go. In 2016 we had for the first time two themes fully coexisting througout the year: BIONICLE and Star Wars. Both offered a wide range of builds and techinques, with the winter wave of BIONICLE creating a unique blend of CCBS and Technic and SW crafting models close to perfection. And while the BIONICLE summer wave for this year contains the controversial beasts, Umarak and Ekimu are respectively the first G2 titan and a perfect blend of 2015 and 2016 BIONICLE builds. On top of that, the recently leaked SW sets make it seems like the bar may be set even higher. In short: do you think we're living the best CCBS year as of yet?
  19. Lariska is an agile and deadly member of the Dark Hunters in G1 Bionicle universe. Said to be always in motion, performing feats of acrobatics and playing with her many knives, she is one of the best assassins The Shadowed One has in his employment. (all images are clickable) The images above, except for the poster are a part of Digital MOC commission I did for Tumblr user Ghost-Mantis. If you want to know more about my Digital commissions, please follow this link. The model itself is based on a drawing made by Just-A-Drawing Cat from Tumblr.
  20. Recently I've been trying to attach those armor shells from Knights Kingdom to an CCBS bone or shell. Especially this one: http://brickset.com/sets/containing-part-4244770 I wanted to attach them to the CCBS Shell to make some nice looking pauldrons, but came to an halt when I tried to find a way. But I somehow cant seem to find any way to attach them. I also tried building some custom limbs, but the results weren't good. So I wanted to ask, do you know any good examples or techniques on how to attach them?
  21. Another digital MOC commission, done for lovely ghost-mantis! She commissioned me to do my revisions of two of her favorite Elemental Creatures - Uxar and Ketar. As you all can see, I took a very drastic approach. They do not look anything like their sets, and both me and Ghost-Mantis are okay with that. I made Uxar to look like both a moth and a dragonfly, with fluffy body and long tail. As for Ketar, I just made him a scorpion which he supposed to represent. I am quite proud of this segmented back and organic pincer design. (all images are clickable, as usual) --- Now folks remember, if you like what I do and you want to see me create your OC, a favorite Bionicle Character, or something else, feel free to look up my Commission Info!
  22. So, , one of the Bionicle team members accidentally confirmed that Nexo Knights would have a constraction presence ("If we make a new shell, it has to fit in with Nexo Knights, for example."), which is further corroborated by the leaked set names for Nexo Knights including "Action" versions of normal characters. The following "Action" sets have been confirmed for winter 2017: 70363 Action Macy 70364 Action Aaron 70365 Action Axl 70366 Action Lance Furthermore, a comic depicting the creation of such action figures in-universe was present in a recent LEGO magazine (credit to Logan), which may give us an idea of how these figures will look. All in all, seems like there's plenty of reason to open a topic to discuss this, and I hope the moderators approve of my decision to do so. So, time to start speculating!
  23. Coming in at over 600 pieces (approximately 85% CCBS, 12.5% Technic and 2.5% System) and 55 cm (1 foot 10 inches) tall is my Makuta contest entry! He features two sets of wings, a Mask of Ultimate Power with adjustable facial expressions, a traditional villainous cape, ten tentacular tendrils and the stability of a Hero Factory 2.0 figure. Furthermore, his 70 cm (2 feet 4 inches) wingspan can fold up behind his cape to act as an extension of said cape. As you can see, he towers over any other CCBS figure. Even Grievous only comes up to his waist. Anyway, his gallery contains many more pictures showing off his various features.
  24. My first entry for the ongoing Bionicle contest, also known under the WIP name, "Destroyer God Makuta." Never before have I built a MOC this huge (totaling 618 pieces and approximately twice the height of either of the other models I made), especially not in LDD, so building this was an interesting experience for me- in particular, having to work with LDD's often-uncooperative hinge tools. Entry page here. "This form of Makuta is not the form he takes to fight the Toa heroes. No, this form is the one Makuta takes when he has won. The last remaining members of the tribes of Okoto have expended all of their resources to stop this shadowy overlord and failed, and it has come at a great cost: the world is now barren and lifeless. Alone to rule over an empty, desolate world, Makuta wanders the planet in despair, having discarded the Mask of Ultimate Power, which is now useless to him." Fitting for such a grim alternate-universe scenario, Makuta uses primarily dark colors with the notable exception of his chest piece, which is meant to bring to mind some sort of area of high elemental energy concentration (imagine Makuta firing a laser out of there or something, hence the rather open chest that somewhat resembles a futuristic weapon system). Although the articulation of the legs at the hips would likely be somewhat stiff and quite limited, there is some degree of side-to-side motion of the upper body (to an extent which I can't really guess) thanks to a simple gear/turntable system; of note, the way the extenders are integrated into the body was inspired by the torso of ddeklerk's recent WIP, "Lockdown," and in fact part of the reason why I decided this MOC had to be so huge in the first place, and because of this, there should be at least some leniency for waist articulation, unless I'm greatly underestimating the friction of the ball joints on the ends of those pieces. This model can indeed hold the included staff, albeit not in a position like this, which involves some careful angle manipulation and the removal and addition of one or two pieces. Due to the aforementioned clumsiness of LDD's hinge tools and their interactions with Technic and CCBS pieces, this is the most visually appealing pose I could take of this feature. I hope you enjoyed this MOC.
  25. I must say, this year is much better then last year, thanks to more technic build. Pohatu was the worst and needed many mods.
