  1. I agree with Sven F, there's bound to be coincidences, but of course they are inspired by what they see online. I know there's a wall, at least where the City designers are, with pictures of MOCs taken from the internet, to inspire those who don't regularly go online and check out other people's builds (in other words, those who weren't AFOLs before they joined the company). So they don't pretend they don't seek inspiration elsewhere. On the other hand, when you say 'a couple of months down the road', it can't possibly be inspired by some other creation if that's the timeframe. Most product lines are at least one year ahead when it comes to detailed planning of sets and the designs are locked looong before they arrive on the shelf. But you probably didn't mean that literally :)
  2. Something's come up for that weekend, so it seems I might have to do what I did this year and arrive late on the Sunday. Still going to try to make it there though!
  3. Spam, posting in old topics without adding anything of value to the topic, giant signatures, posts that reek of entitlement (I need this, LEGO must do that, everything should be cheap and easily available to me) and, not least, people who just know the reasons for everything The LEGO Company does without ever having spoken to a single person who works there :) Oh, that was a nice list. It felt good to get it out of the system.
  4. It's certainly a more plausible explanation to me than humidity and climate. There must be a reason why some people experience this so much, whereas others - like me, for example, are lucky and have hardly seen a single part crack. To me it makes sense - no matter how unfortunate it is - that some people are just genetically less 'compatible' with the plastic than others.
  5. I have it from a LEGO parts designer that they know that skin oils affect the pieces - but skin oil isn't simply skin oil. Its properties vary from person to person. So he specifically said that some people have skin oils that will affect LEGO pieces to a greater extent than other people - which is one of the reasons it's so hard to do anything with. You can't make a solution that will work perfectly with every possible skin oil from every possible person... And as Faefrost says, it's not like an acid that leaves instant finger marks. It's a substance that makes the parts more brittle over time when they are handled regularly.
  6. In the original feedback thread about the upgraded forum, I posted this back in October: "Out of curiosity, is there a reason why the 'new posts' brick was changed from a strong yellow colour to the pale light yellow it has now? To me, the colour that now stands out the most on the forum pages is the blue 'already read' brick - which seems a bit counter-intuitive. I will always be more interested in the posts I haven't read than the posts I have read - so from that perspective the 'new posts' colour should be at least as eye-catching, if not more, than the 'already read' colour. Right?" And Jim replied: "Agreed. Should be the other way around." A couple of days after that, it was fixed - the pale yellow was changed into a much stronger yellow colour, a big improvement, in my opinion. Then a few days later, it was changed back. Any reason for that? I second that - there used to be a clear statement on signature restrictions, but either the restrictions have been removed or nobody cares about them anymore. Then again: In my opinion, even krisandkris12's signature is unnecessarily big and will therefore be blocked by me... :)
  7. Only in this one store, sadly... Oh, and thank you, Pandora, for including a lovely picture of my own flummoxed self. I really was wondering what on earth was going on in that moment...
  8. Right! Into the calendar it goes. Time to get to a Eurobricks event outside of Billund!
  9. Out of curiosity, is there a reason why the 'new posts' brick was changed from a strong yellow colour to the pale light yellow it has now? 10. That was my initial reaction, too, but it's not drazplaz' first post. Remember, posts in Community do not count towards post count anymore. This user has been a member for more than two years.
  11. How is this snobbish? It is Eurobricks, after all, which has the tagline "Uniting LEGO fans around the world" - not "Uniting fans of LEGO-related building bricks around the world".
  12. Those are pretty much exclusively clone sets though, not rip-offs of LEGO designs...
  13. Isn't it simply a matter of whether it's a set that is a rip-off of a LEGO design or not? If it's a copy, it's not OK. If it's by a clone company, but a new design, it's OK. That's how I understand the rules. And for the record, I wholeheartedly support the decision. Although I can see the moderators facing some tough decisions in the bootleg minifigure thread... Edit: I see a few replies were posted before mine. I didn't intend to repeat what had already been said!
  14. I don't think there's any reason to believe it won't come out next year.
  15. They said next year, so 2019 is off the mark. Didn't get a more specific date (but then I didn't ask, either).
  16. The conversation was very informal, so obviously there's a chance that they were exaggerating . But even if they were, it's a pretty good indicator that it will indeed be huge.
  17. That's what they said...
  18. Just thought I'd mention that I had a chat with the Ideas people at the Skærbæk Fan Weekend on Saturday, about the upcoming sets. They had a stand there with the Caterham on display. I haven't seen much about the Apollo 11 Saturn-V anywhere yet, so it came as a nice surprise that they were actually willing to discuss it a bit, specifically the fact that it doesn't seem to have lost any size during the refinement process. According to both representatives I talked to (and they should know what they're talking about) it's "huge" and "more than a metre in length". Which means it's "easily the biggest Ideas set so far".
  19. As far as I know it was in order to make the machines that assembled the minifigures know what was the front and what was the back of the torso, so that the arms wouldn't be connected the wrong way. I believe I heard this from an insider, and it certainly seems a plausible explanation.
  20. I can shed some light on this, or rather, the designer of the original Yellow Castle can - because in my interview with the late Daniel August Krentz, published in issue #3 of Bricks Culture magazine, we touched on this subject. I quote: You can read the entire article on my Flickr, the first spread is here. Daniel also told me his inspiration for the Yellow Castle came from typical castles in the Mediterranean countries - especially Spain, which, as far as I know, tend to be more tan in colour than the traditional Northern European grey ones. I hope this gives you a little bit of extra insight on the matter.
  21. ...provided a) it's complete and in decent condition (I'd definitely recommend removing the dust, at least) and b) you can actually find somebody who's willing to pay that price for it. It doesn't really help what Brickpicker says if there aren't any buyers around... ;)
  22. I'm 100% certain it'll turn up in Europe sooner or later. It's not the first time the promotions aren't the same all over the world, and I don't think any of the others have failed to turn up everywhere eventually.
  23. This is very nice! I'd love to see it built with real bricks. But... the upside-down part of the fuel tanks won't really work, will it? In my experience, placing headlight bricks next to regular bricks like that tends to create quite a bit of stress as it doesn't really fit... or am I wrong? I'm very, very surprised that LDD let you do it.
  24. Hi there Yellowbird! Nice to see another fellow Norwegian here - there's a few of us, but we might not be visible on the forums at all times :) My number one suggestion to you would be to check out Brikkelauget, the Norwegian LEGO User Group - www.brikkelauget.no - where you'll get answers from Norwegians. Which might be more practical, especially when it comes to shipping costs and sourcing parts. See you there :)
