LEGO Ideas: 21110 Research Institute/Female Minifigure Set
Off the wall replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Town
I'm just bored with it all. I'm more interested in rumors on the next modular. -

A lot of what is being said is based on a political political paradigm that may or may not be acceptable to all. So, can we just at least pretend this is a toy and keep our political/social truths to ourselves? My wife is a very successful attorney and just shrugged her shoulders and rolled her eyes at this discussion. Except for a couple of my comments, and I'll pay the price for those. Trust me. -

[ MOC ] Box N . My Design Studio / Modular Building
Off the wall replied to niteangel's topic in LEGO Town
Magnificent. A great example of how simple can be interesting. Simple, in appearance that is. Actually, very detailed and well thought out when examined more closely. What a wonderful contrast to what so many people consider good architecture. I remember standing outside of the sagrada familia in Barcelona and the only word that came to my mind was 'garish'. I didn't even go inside. I've also been fortunate enough to see several of Frank Lloyd Wrights buildings. Simple. Clean. Refreshing.......like your creation. Different styles for sure, but both refreshing in their appearance. Again, great work.- 32 replies

Yep, basically I took the parts from three PRs, put out them all on a large table and proceeded to build what I thought better fit my modular city.

Faefrost, that's a good analysis. And both opinions are okay with me. I prefer the big box of air type of building. That allows me to add to what TLG has given us in the original design as far as the interior goes. But, I'm more into the building and really don't care about the interior at all. I did buy enough grand emporiums to create one building that's four stories tall and has a 96 x 64 footprint. I haven't done much with the interior. I also think that town hall gets a lot of unfair criticism. The interior does have some nice detail and the elevator was a different touch. Some types of buildings lend themselves better to being modular subject matter. I didn't think my grand emporium could really be 'grand' if it was the same size as the green grocer. Like wise, I'm not happy with how the TH looks in my modular city. That's why I'm thinking about buying a couple more and making the town hall 64 wide and a story taller. I also took three PRs and combined them into one multi purpose, three story building with the restaurant on the first floor. It has more the dimensions of the other modulars. Sorry, I don't post pictures...but I have emailed pics to a few fellow AFOLs. If you'd like to see my PR and GE, just send me a message with an email address. Now, off to the world cup....I hope no one gets bitten today.

Appropriate car for a modular consulate/ambassy
Off the wall replied to bjorn77's topic in LEGO Town
If you go with the land rover/range rover, make sure (for the sake of realism) that you put a black or green 2 x 2 plate under it to represent the typical fluid leaks. You might also want a tow truck standing by around the corner. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I'm giving myself a self imposed thirty day 'time out'. You're welcome. -
Unless 'greed' has an element of criminality to it, there's nothing wrong with 'greed'. I see reselling (which I don't do) an element of collecting and enjoying the hobby. I don't sell anything anymore. I either give it away or donate it to Goodwill. Unless it's my car, and then I'll trade it in. You'd think I'm a reseller since I have ten 10211s. Nope. Just eccentric and combining them into one very large 10211.

I've seen the word 'greed' used in several comments. I have no idea what 'greed' is. How about a little help, please?

You might want to check your attitude. I tried to offer an olive branch. I advocate what I believe in. Frequently. Sorry if that makes you uncomfortable. I have not 'named called', just directed criticism at an object. It irritates you and some others. For many people, it either doesn't offend/irritate them or they just blow if off. Aggressive? Wow. Sounds like someone lives in a bubble. I'm sure your opinion is in the majority, but that's basically meaningless to me. -

Seriously, folks, I guess its 99% subjective. Have fun, build. Even knowing their financial history, I'd like to see them try one of their secret MOCs that can 'never be made into sets.' They might be pleasantly surprised. -

That just motivates me to keep stating it again and again. :-) However, I'm sure that if I take your advice on relocating the PR, the word 'awesome' will undoubtedly creep into my vocabulary. -

I am one of those who supports the resellers. I only became interested in Lego a couple of years ago. So, I paid reseller prices for Corner Cafe, Market Street, Green Grocer, Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal, the VW......just glad I don't feel a need for SW sets. I'm glad the resellers are around. I've always made it a rule to not rationalize any hobby by putting an 'investment' label on it. With that said, clearly some people turn a profit on Lego sets. But, it's not the scale of profit that I'm interested in. Bought Ford stock at under $2 a share back in the financial crisis. That's what I invest in.

"Well the thing is, If everyone becomes the kind of customers who "eventually buys everything", it'll only make LEGO products worse and worse. " Right you are.........and that's one of the problems. -
Well, you have my support. And, I do tend to be a bit on the critical side, to say the least. Your MOC is both detailed and true to the real subject matter.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Off the wall replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I don't really want a big box, I want something with architectural details that doesn't look as forced as they do on the PR. There are some wonderful modular MOCs. Some with plans available for sale (such as a hospital and a candy store) and some where I don't think you can get the plans (a beautiful Starbucks-Barnes and Noble book store combo). Of course, the examples I site may be too complex to be economically viable for TLG to sell. Not wanting to disturb the lemmings again, but the PR simply looks out of place along side the other modulars. -

I would like a true, exclusive, well detailed residential building. Doesn't have to be a brownstone as I've already combined a couple of PS to create one and used the Haunted House as the basis for an additional residential building. I haven't been to a church service in over thirty years. Yet, I would welcome a church. There are so many opportunities with church buildings. Just because you appreciate the architectural aspects of a building doesn't necessarily mean you agree with the beliefs of those who own/use it. I think the world has become a bit too sensitive. The PR is too small, the top floor is a joke, the stark harsh white trim is ugly. Also, it seems to be a favorite of those whose vocabulary is limited to the word 'awesome' when searching for an adjective. 'Awesome', the favorite word of the lazy and/or marginally literate. A word that, at least in America, is usually used to describe a rather mundane, common thing or event. Lego needs to grow a set and give us a church. Now, that would be awesome. :-)
