With 7 cats, you would probably be ok buying used LEGO from me. My cat pee'd in a box of LEGO. I washed them but am still finding bits of dried cat urine crystals stuck in the deep nooks and crannies every now and then.

Clever MOD. I've seen those types of batteries MOD to use in Airsoft pellet guns. People custom 3D printed gun stocks to hold the tool battery and used spades for electrical contacts.

Welcome to Eurobricks, wolfspring. GoPro are fun to add to LEGO trains for an engineer's view around the layout.

Welcome aboard, alvinofdiaspar. Pacing may be hard when we have 3 LEGO Stores and 1 LEGO Discovery Centre in Toronto.

Build at the speed that is enjoyable to you. Then again being able to build fast is a good skill to have for those Speed Build contests at the AFOL conventions. The only time I won one of those contests was when the build was a Technic set. The other competitors weren't used to building Technic and I luck'ed out.

42100 - Still a toy?
dr_spock replied to nerdsforprez's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The challenge may be having the correct level phone or smart device to use. Grandparents could be buying the set for grandkid who has a smartphone and they did not double-check the IOS or Android OS level that the app runs on. Funny thing, I tried out the Powered UP app on my Android 5.0 device before buying the Batmobile. It was working and I was able to play the train engine sounds for the Powered UP trains. After I bought the Batmobile, the app auto updated and it stopped working. It would start and then crash out after the orange yellow Powered UP screen. Information on the Google Play Store says Android 5.0 originally. Later it seems to suggest Android 5.1. With the latest update, it works again. I gotta remember to turn auto-updates off... They do have it printed on the box like for the app controlled Batmobile. -
Sound like my life in IT. I have not heard of PICNIC before. The one I use is I/O error. (Idiotic Operator) Tapping on glass that don't have any give will eventually harm your finger joints. I had to reduce my time on the smartdevices due to joint pains. They'll have to offer features not offered by LEGO. Like the old LEGO RCX mindstorm and accessories that needs RS232 serial ports older Windows version? You could hack your own controller that talks BLE. LEGO publishes their protocol. There are few projects on Github.

If you don't have a smartphone or tablet with the correct requirements to run the Control + app, then.... -
Let's see, they're getting my $$$ through Pick A Brick Wall at LEGO retail store, Pick A Brick online LEGO Shop@Home, Bricks & Pieces, and sets that are good parts pack.

It's designed as a toy, n'est-ce pas? -
Maybe black. They haven't done black since Monster Fighters' Ghost Train.

Target audience for LEGO Star Wars is boys 6-12. Its sweet spot is boys 9-10. It tractor beams in the most new LEGO users in the 4+ kiddie group. It is a major Force in Lucasfilm's licensing business.

I had to buy a new phone to use the new Powered UP app. The problem with smartphones and tablets is the app may not work on every device model even if the version of Android (or other OS) is at the supported level. Royal pain in the butt. What's that saying in IT? What works today, may not work tomorrow after an update.

There is still another 3 more years to go on the Star Wars license with LucasFilm before it expires. Since we don't know all the T&Cs of their licensing contract, dropping out early may not be an option (without financial penalties).
