I would keep the 4559 set running intact on 9V. If I have to run it on PF track, I would build a PF power car in similar style to push the train from the back. Swap out the 9V motor with a free rolling bogie in the front. That way I don't lose some of the playability of the set to hold PF battery box, IR receiver, etc. Also it would be easy going back and forth between 9V and PF.

Thanks for sharing. I use a Dymo printer too. I have a white on clear ribbon cartridge which works pretty good for having white letters/numbers on red bricks.

Nice little build. Did someone or something ripped up his pants? Hmm, could that be "naping"?

[MOC] Train and farm display at Durham Cathedral
dr_spock replied to BricksMcgee's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Nice. I do a kid view test by getting down on my knees and trying to see what the kids can or can't see on my display. -
Great update. Do you have the layout in a spare bedroom or the bedroom? It is nice to have LEGO so close at hand when you can't sleep at night.

Thanks. I did look at photoresistors. I had some concerns with passing clouds confusing the sensors since our LUG display at outdoor events. We could probably put a strong magnet in a caboose or FRED device if end of train detection is needed. I made an Arduino device that sends out a stream of TV power off/on IR codes. I suppose it can be done blasting out the halt codes for Power Functions and mess up your Tech Ball opponents. I noticed that it just sits there with the delay() statement. It could be ok if I am not expecting any other events to happen during that time. State machines sound interesting. How is that done on Arduino?

Now that Brickfete is over. I have a little more time to play with my Arduino like Train PONG between two magnetic reed switches. I think this could morph into a Great Ball Contraption. I could use the red channel on the IR receiver to drive a motor to operate a dump car.

Do a search, there have a few motorized boats in the Technic forum in the past. 4011 is kind of small. Chima set 70006 has a large hull. Two should give you good stability. Also BrickWorld Chicago has an IR boat race in the hotel pool. You can probably find pictures and videos online. Good luck.

Welcome aboard, Neil. That's a nice collection of Technic flagships.

They appear to be providing a service to non-English proficient clients. You could ask them for a cut of the sales of your work. Or hire a bunch of "contractors" to enforce your IP or copyright (cheaper than lawyers).

Nice work. Did you print the stickers yourself? That's an interesting cab on the GE Dash-8. I don't think I've seen one like that before (at least not in North America. BTW, is there a video of the event somewhere?

Why do topics get closed?
dr_spock replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
There are various reasons topics get closed on Eurobricks. Things such as duplicate topics--posting the same topics in two or more forums. Discussions that collapse into fighting or go around in an endless loop. Topics of confidential information. There is probably a list somewhere in the Forum Information and Help forum. Come to think of it, this topic is not Technic specific since reasons for closing topics are forum wide. -
Welcome to Eurobricks from the cold.

Welcome to Eurobricks, Aimtac. Those 12+ hours flights might be good for creating with LEGO, eh?

Lego themes that we would like to happen
dr_spock replied to YellowCorvette's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Yes, they have and still do. He probably meant the old monkeys with the moveable arms and legs. They came with some pirate sets. The current monkeys are stiff as a lump of ABS plastic. Field Trip to the Jungle Zoo by dr_spock_888, on Flickr- 451 replies
